Noisy location, parking is tough & terrible
Location is good. Fun bar across the street. Hot tub was nice.
Says there is free parking... there is NOT. Very limited parking in the entire area, no designated spot for this hotel. Had to pay for parking a block away and then carry our stuff. Also, entrance to hotel very difficult to find.
The location was stellar. We were right in the heart of old town and you can walk or ride bikes everywhere. I think it was two or three blocks from the water, maybe a ten minute walk to the Hemingway home, nearby all kinds of great restaurants, and has a great porch to sit and enjoy the neighborhood ambience. There is a cute little convenience store next door which is connected to a walk up Cuban deli - which makes excellent coffees. We didn’t try the food but it smelled really good. The rental has a well equipped kitchenette (no oven but there is a stove, microwave, toaster and fridge). The beds were comfortable and the pull out couch worked great for our 8 year old. Once we learned that parking is free on South street (east of Simonton) we didn’t have to worry about paying the insane street parking rates. There is a wall AC unit which, when left running all night including fan, drowns out the music and noise from the bar across the street. It made the perfect white noise machine and we all slept great in the cool air.
We did have a bit of a sugar ant issue in the bathroom but nothing a little bug spray couldn’t fix.
Negative 5 stars -- Rent this property at your own risk. 1) They said that parking was a challenge. No. Parking is impossible. The property has no parking spots for renters. Parking on the street is $4.00/hr, from 8am to Midnight. Parking in other hotel lots or in residents slots are towing strictly enforced. The nearest free street parking is approximately 3/4 mile away, if you are lucky. 2) When you get there, you discover there is NO OFFICE. After wandering and asking around, you find a small number on a gate to call to find out what cottage you get. But only if you call before 4pm, otherwise you are SOL. 3) The cottage you rent is shabby and not well kept. And expensive. They say the charge is $116.00/night, but with fees and other charges it went up to $300.00/night. The TV they provide is a SMALL flatscreen. You need a PhD to figure out the alarm clock. They do provide a small safe. However, the bar across the street plays loudly till after 3am, so forget sleep. 4) I had to leave because of family emergency, but the property managers refused to refund me for the 3 nights I did not stay. They said I should have used trip insurance. This is by far the worst room I have ever rented in my life, and I have travelled for 30 years.
Loved the location, parking like anywhere is always problematic but we parked the truck at the post office for the few days and never got back in until we left. We were new to a door code entry/exit and a little wary but it was really easy! We rented bikes and used them to get around. Even locked them up while we took the catamaran cruise ride and rode home in dark but felt very safe in our area. The hot tub was very easy to operate and that was my favorite part. Lights inside changed colors and very relaxing. Room was very clean, comfy pillows, clean shower and good water pressure. Had a nice little porch if you want to sit out and read or enjoy a quick bite. Overall not very fancy but had practical stuff for a get away for a few days.
We were just there for a short trip. Mattress on the beds could have been more comfortable; however, we were really tired so wasn't a factor. Loved the hot tub, just need to upgrade lights around it to pretty, maybe some on trees. The hot tub we had just had a flood light in the area and it was bright but not placed very strategically. Maybe do those little solar lights by the hot tub steps, add pea rock and get rid of the bit of dirt.
