10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts thought of every detail. If you wanted water, tea, coffee, beer, a snack, fruit, cookies or anything, they had it readily available. You could use the kitchen, the laundry facilities, a heater for your room and the iron. The place is in a great location and so very beautiful, clean and comfortable. We stayed at several B& B's on our two-week vacation and this was by far our favorite one!!
9.5 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic in every way beautiful location super friendly hosts
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Not even sure where to begin! Maybe breakfast was my favourite part... It was absolutely amazing! I have always found it problematic to organise vegan options so usually I don't even bother requesting it and just hope for some margarine and bread. But James' breakfast offered the widest range of vegan options, actually, a far greater selection than in my own household haha! On top of the perfect meal there is a fully equipped kitchen available for those who wish to cook during their stay! It's perfect for refueling when spending some time in the country. Although our visit this time wasn't about hiking in the countryside. We attended the Fly Open Air festival and couldn't have picked a better place to stay! It was a 5 minute walk from the entrance, and James prepared a treasure map showing how to get there. It was dead convenient to walk through through the fields at the end, while everybody else was queuing for the overcrowded buses to get back to Edinburgh. We were fast asleep in the comfiest bed by the time people got home. When checking out next morning, James also offered to give us a ride to the train station given that taxis were super busy with the festival goers. I wish we had stayed for another couple of days to fully enjoy what Parkhead House has to offer. Unfortunately, we never had the chance to meet Angela (the wifey), but James is an excellent chat, very entertaining and also informative when it comes to local knowledge, so I can only imagine her being just as endearing. He's great with guests and genuinely interested in people. I wish I was a bit more like him haha! I am sure we will be back soon, thanks for everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We travelled to attend a wedding anniversary, and chose Parkhead House largely because of the "Dog Friendly" description, It certainly was! All other aspects were excellent. A very enjoyable stay and we would certainly hope to return.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Harris Room that we stayed in was great for me and my 14 year old son as he had his own space but still close enough to feel safe (would have been made better if when locked from inside I could gain access with a key) The private bathroom was a great addition to both rooms. The beds are sooooooo comfortable and the whole property is dog friendly, my dogs enjoyed the break as much as we did.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: James was wonderful. Flexible with check in times, made breakfast early. We stayed one night early in the trip and our last night. At breakfast the first time he asked if we needed any condiments and I asked for hot sauce which he didn’t have, but by the time we stayed again he had gone out and bought hot sauce! Location was beautiful and peaceful, though a little too far from Edinburgh to allow us to spend as much time in the city as we would have liked, but that was a misjudgment on our part.
Cons: Shower water pressure was too low to easily wash my hair. It got a little warmer than average when we were staying and the room was a little hot since we couldn’t open the windows and there was no AC (that we were aware of).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Loved the host. Most helpful I’ve met. Loved the snacks provided. Beautiful location. Liked that washcloths were provided along with the towels.
Cons: Water pressure in the shower was too low to wash my long hair.

Pros: So called superior room with large bed. Mattresses are past their sell-by date Room is BADLY under ventilated... one small window that was closed.... and only opens about 2 inches at top... bottom window glued shut (pet hate of hotels that do that... windows are designed to open and ventilate. As a result room was musty and smelled dank. Carpet dirty. Yeeeuucchh. Door to room ... only closed when you locked it... otherwise would not shut. This should not be a hotel room. Damp. Musty. Access from Outside ... should make this clearer on website. Poor. Would not recommend room. Only redeeming factor was the staff and breakfast.

Pros: The location was fab, the dog walking area was amazing. The views breathtaking.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is a Lovely cottage in the middle of beautiful grounds of well maintained gardens and small woodland. It is easily accessible as it is located on one level , with good sized parking and in convenient location close to village amenities and train station. The cottage is well equipped with modernised bathroom and kitchen.
Cons: The only point I could find that could be improved is the seating in the front room which could do with a larger sofa for better comfort and ease of use ( especially for elderly people - we used instead the two comfy rocking chairs that are as well available )

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully decorated, lots of character, helpful cheerful staff and the food was excellent. Located in lovely grounds. Made you feel quite special.
Cons: Nothing- all good
5.0 Okay
Pros: For our stay, only the fact it was an "historical" building. Disappointingly, nothing more can be listed.
Cons: It would have been good to be made to feel welcome, to have more pleasant staff demeanor, to not have to walk through a dozen people smoking on the steps at the entrance to the hotel when we arrived. It would have been preferable to not have a large diesel generator going all night 50m from the hotel room. There was an electricity power outage issue but it had been ongoing for a few days............surely we should have been notified and at least moved to a side of the hotel away from the generator. There was also a group at the hotel fire walking and this went on directly outside our room till after 11.00pm. A rather truncated breakfast service............average at the best. The average score worked out by the review page is listed as 5................I would barely give it 3.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great setting , good food and relaxed lounge/ bar atmosphere
Cons: Couldn't shut window as fixed open and noise of kitchen/ ventilation outside window constantly
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It was a very comfortable stay
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This was a late booking and only for the night. However the cost through Book.com was excellent, I had not actually checked out where I was staying (just needed a place to stay) so I was pleasantly surprised at the superb accommodation. The room and bathroom were excellent befitting the No. wedding hotel in Scotland and the building retained all of its history. This was a great hotel to stay in.
Cons: Only staying for one night. I did not have any complaints about the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Genuinely friendly staff. Excellent food at the wedding we attended at Balbirnie. The price of drinks were reasonable. Absolutely delighted to get a free upgrade for our room. All in all a very enjoyable wedding and stay at Balbirnie. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quality hotel in a nice location, providing excellent food and service. In short. Loved it.
Cons: Nothing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Delightful staff. Very comfortable bed and room. Excellent location for touring Fife. Superb evening meal. Would have preferred freshly cooked breakfast rather than buffet style with eggs, bacon etc pre-cooked. Otherwise, excellent.
Cons: Slider breakfast
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful old world charm and lovely gardens
Cons: What's not to like?
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely immaculately kept hotel grounds for a woodland walk . Staff always friendly and polite. Enjoyed good quality and nicely presented lunch and evening meals in the cosy downstairs bistro. We were given the Bell tower Suite which was huge with its own separate lounge and large bedroom.
Cons: When we arrived at two o clock we were hoping to have afternoon tea in the lovely sitting rooms but Reception said you have to give them 24 hours notice if want this which is a shame as we were so looking forward to a cuppa and scone after a long journey never mind we know for next time and will be back.

Pros: We entered our room and were pleasantly surprised at the size and elegance of it. Our bay window had views of the Firth of Forth.
Cons: The potion sizes for both breakfast and dinner were too big! We felt bad about wasting food but there was too much. And all delicious!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were friendly. Good modern and newly decorated.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and the staff were lovely
Cons: Shower not very great
5.8 Okay
Pros: Evening meal & breakfast good, lovely building.
Cons: Room was bare, bathroom very small ok for one night but would be difficult to use for a larger person
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff very friendly and obliging.
Cons: Mattress in Room 2 creaky ,lumpy , awful, had to sleep on the floor. Shower a mere trickle. No wardrobe just hanging space. Drain noise from other rooms (glugging continously from use by other guests)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice building
Cons: Shower was a bit hit and miss
4.3 Okay
Pros: the bed
Cons: the toilet was far too narrow there was constant slamming of doors, they should have door hands on them as people slamming doors at 3am, reception closed at 630pm on a saturday night when booking i think we should have been informed that there was a wedding booked in,due to people shouting in the car park, there was also stains on the sheets, we werent asked how our stay was when we checked out
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel had been renovated so it was very modern and new, The room was large and bright. We ate dinner there and enjoyed that meal as well as breakfast the following day. The lady at the desk informed my husband about using the bus into Edinburgh which we very much appreciated. We later heard that the tram was very expensive which we had been planning to use.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Handy for where we wanted to be. Stayed before. Staff always helpful and friendly. Great breakfast.
Cons: We were in the extension this time. And it was noisier than the rooms in the older part of the building. Door noise, TV from next room. Talking etc in next room. Still love the place and will stay again.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Beautiful on the outside, ok looking inside a wee bit disappointing. Good location. Great breakfast
Cons: Room walls were paper thin, tiny shower smelled like drains. The noise Friday and Saturday nights (due to weddings both nights and the ‘clear up’ after was hellish. Also the housekeeping first thing in the morning made no effort to be quiet outside rooms...

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome and easy check in, lovely looking hotel.
Cons: Room a little sparse. Bathroom Felt a bit clinical. Hairs in bath and bed sheets. Breakfast looked better than it tasted but was fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant staff Very smart and professional
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff. Large and clean room. Decently equipped gym and pool at no extra charge. Peaceful location, lawns and trees all around. Historically listed building with a character.
Cons: The shaver electrical outlet in the bathroom did not work so I needed an adapter to plug my EU phone charger into one of the other room outlets of UK type. I asked at the reception but unfortunately they did not have any adapter to borrow. The fan in the bathroom that turned itself on automatically with the light was really noisy - not a major issue but gets annoying if you spend there more time (e.g. in a bath).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful. Food on evening good and no problem with gluten or dairy intolerance. Nice garden at rear adjacent to bar and restaurant
Cons: would have preferred shower cubicle to shower in a bath. couldn't control heating in bedroom or bathroom , the hotel did which was inconvenient as we had got soaked in rain and couldn't dry anything.

Cons: It was a very busy place to eat so if you want to eat there make sure you book your table prior to arrival. We didn't and had to wait.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was small but comfortable and clean. No real complaints about the food other than our sprouting broccoli wasn’t properly cooked. The breakfast was good and the owner was very pleased to change the menu to suit me.
Cons: Can’t say I didn’t like the place but the entrance, corridors, stairway etc could do with a refurbishment
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent food , Great service, Lovely staff. Will be happy to return again!
Cons: Train line at foot of property not mentioned before booking. Trains stopped about 11pm to be fair. Walls are very thin!!
8.0 Excellent

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was comfortable with a small but clean en-suite. The staff where extremely friendly and helpful. Simon the manager was excellent. The food was very good; fresh sea food & fish in the evening, the full Scottish breakfast looked great, I opted for Granola with a huge bowl of fresh Berries, fantastic! Bar staff, Grace in particular, where efficient and really friendly. I would recommend 100% if staying in the area.
Cons: Nothing.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Pillows were clean and firm
Cons: Bed frame was a cheap flat pack that moved and squeeked. Mattress was the cheapest spring mattress available. polyester duvet cover made sleeping unbearably hot. Room overlooked smoking area for the bar so every 15mins you were disturbed by drinkers standing outside laughing until well gone midnight. Carpets in corridors filthy looking and sticky to walk on. Restaurant decor needs a complete revamp. Booth seating covers look dirty and restaurant smells of old cooking fat.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, lovely food.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great staff and very helpful with any questions I had.

Pros: We had to check in very late but this was no problem for the night porter. The rooms were very clean and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was nice and hearty in the morning.

Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: Liked the location
Cons: The balcony could have been a lot cleaner and the pillows on the bed had a funny smell! The people in the next door bedroom obviously didn’t sleep well and then walking up and down on the “old” floorboards all night was quite disturbing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was really excellent ,the service was really good and very quick . Everything that came was nice and hot and tasted really good . the view was really nice out of the window as you ate your breakfast .
9.5 Excellent

Cons: nothing ,weather hammerd down with rain
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Room was ok, plenty of parking space, evening meal was om
Cons: The room smelt, things didn’t work in the room, like the bathroom taps. Sheets too small for the bed, couldn’t get cold water out of the tap. Staff attitude was flippant. We have stayed in Scotland in hotels for a month and the attitude in this place was the worst
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing - helpful, friendly, funny, just great bunch of guys!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A truly lovely hotel - which is obvious as soon as you walk through the door. Friendly, caring staff; beautifully decorated and well maintained; nice room (very comfortable bed); great food.
Cons: It's not actually in the village or immediately beside the sea so any nice evening stroll is a ten minute hike away, down the main road. But the hotel is so lovely you probably won't want to go out anyway!
