Oyado Hana - Nachikatsuura - Hotel amenity
1
8.9 Excellent (791 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located just across the street from Katsuura Station and ideally situated for business and sightseeing alike. Heartwarming little hotel with lots of lovely "handmade" touches. Take a wonderfully refreshing bath in the naturally sourced onsen. Qigong (Chinese breathing exercises) clinic located in the hotel. Why not soothe away the aches and pains of a long day's traveling?
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful hosts. Useful location. Easy as it was right next to the train station and also very close to car rental and coin laundry.
Cons: Only one single shower cubicle for all guests. Room was small and sometimes noisy (we had the room next to the toilet and drinks station). Property only accepts cash payment, on arrival.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so very friendly, the room was very generous! The bathrooms and all the facilities were really clean.
Cons: Everything was great, no complaints at all.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice guesthouse! We enjoyed the onsen very much. Staff really lovely and helpful. Super clean, good wifi and great air conditioning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Polite staff, comfortable and clean environment. Location is convenient to nachi falls. Hostel has a private onsen.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location and I loved the room and the beds.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous! Onsen was great. Ichi Ri restaurant was recommended and it was fantastic. The town even had fireworks last night too! What a great place
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, just opposite the train station. There's also a small private onsen that you can book once a day during some specific hours.
Cons: There's no real reception and the hotel is closed in the afternoon, but you can still leave your stuff in locker outside if you arrive before the (relatively late) check in time.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: There is a nice private onsen in the accomodation, but the time of bath has to be booked. Also fridge and kettle is available.
Cons: Squeaking door.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff friendly and kind, the room for 4 person big, location just a cross jr station, clean
Cons: Theres only 1 shower room for the entire guess, cannot pay with card, must cash
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the friendly people there, very helpful. The location is perfect next to the railway, and they have free lockers (you get your coin back) to save your luggage. The room is traditional so it looks very cute, a bit small perhaps but that is no issue for me. Really recommend staying here.
Cons: nothing
Manseirou - Nachikatsuura

Minshuku Wakatake - Nachikatsuura - Building
3
8.6 Excellent (144 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Minshuku Wakatake in Nachikatsuura, you'll be just steps from Yunomine Onsen and Kawayu Onsen. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is very near kiikatsura stn though it's on the more quiet side of the stn. Also, the room is extremely big for 3 people
Cons: The place is very old. Due to the age, many broken tiles and stains in the bathroom giving it an old and dirty look. Also, i emailed the property twice via booking.com but never got any reply
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good location. It is behind JR kiikatsuura, just cross the railway. Big room with japanese style futon. Free hot drink outside the room. Separated bathroom and toilet for men and women. Japanese style bathroom with onsen. Japanese breakfast is delicious and full of items. You can feel like home here.
Cons: you need to open the window to get good ventilation and get rid of some smell.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Right next to the train and bus station, a lot of restaurants around.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Short walk to minshuku. Cosy and comfortable room. Free tea and coffee
Cons: Lack of charging points. Have to sacrifice watching tv.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very spacious - for two people. It seemed huge after staying in an ordinary hotel where rooms are tiny. This was more like a traditional ryokan. The bathroom was shared and never never had a problem using it - didn't see other people. The onsen was very nice too - small but very nice. There are free drinks in a shared area - tea, coffee and miso soup, which we took to our room. The place is very clean and we got fresh bedlinen and yukata each day - we only stay two nights. It is a small town and the lack of hordes of tourists pushing you around was a welcome change. The footbath by the station was a bonus too.
Cons: I wished I had stayed there longer. There is no internet but we had a sakura mobile router. It was good not having internet so we could actually enjoy the place instead of checking emails and browsing the net all the time - tend to do that when you have free wifi.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed only one night. The place is clean and very close to the station. It was a good option.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is in front of Kii-Katsuura station & bus station, the japanese breakfast is great
Cons: No private bathroom
8.3 Excellent
Pros: close to the train station, very nice Japanese traditional breakfast
Cons: The WIFI in the hotel is very poor
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly owner & staff - they assisted us in carpark & finding places of interests & restaurants to eat Good breakfast in Japanese setting
Cons: All rooms should be strictly for non-smoking guests
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice onsen and great home made breakfast

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room is very clean and the staff is so helpful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location close to shops and fish market. Free parking close by. Friendly staff with free dessert. Comfortable spacious, quiet room with clean and comfortable beds.
Cons: Toilet right at entrance of bathroom blocking the way a bit but its ok
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good value, but the hotel's best feature is its location close to the station, eating/drinking places, and the harbour. Don't miss the fish auction. Ask for sight-seeing advice.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is excellent, great customer service, friendly and free drinks in mini bar!
Cons: We didn't like the weird and humit smell in our hotel room at room number 105.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Upon arrival we received a comprehensive welcome package with every info we might need and a free welcome soup. Extremely convenient location.
Cons: No view, but we didn’t expect this, so this wasn’t really a problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, reasonably spacious room with parking, close to fish market. Good choice of food in surrounding area. Owner is friendly and place is quiet. We had good night sleep and enjoyed our stay there
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Close to the station and best restaurants, good size rooms, clean.
Cons: No lift so may affect some people.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nachikatsuura is a wonderful village centered around the tuna fishing industry. Hotel Charmant is in the heart of town just a few minutes walk from the train station, bus to the Kumano Kodo trails, the fish market, harbor and great little restaurants featuring maguro! Staff was very helpful with directions. The room is simple but very comfortable.
Cons: Nothing!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very close to the train station; the lady at the reception was very courteous, shared a lot of information about the local restaurants, transportation and places to see.
Cons: No elevator (we stayed at the 3rd floor and had to carry a big suitcase via the stairs)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location in Kii-Katsuura is excellent, very close to the train station and the Kumano Kodo buses. It is also convenient to viewing the famous morning tuna auction. The service was very friendly, and they were set up to help English speaking guests, even though they spoke very little English. There was a palpable positive vibe. The inexpensive breakfasts were better than we expected.
Cons: Even judging by the standards of basic hotels, the room was very small. There was no view out the frosted glass window of my first floor room. There was no more than one foot to the next building's wall. Higher floors might be better, but I don't know. The double bed was against the wall making it very difficult for the person sleeping on that side to get our of bed. There was really no room for anything.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Many onsens in the area and best tuna in japan!
Cons: Smaller room, but comfortable...
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very good value of money. The room is clean and spacious for one person. Private toilet inside the room is a bonus. Overall an excellent choice. Will definitely stay again if I come here in the future.
Cons: The location is a little bit far from the JR train station. Ok to walk 5-10 minutes during the day. But feeling a bit worry to walk in the dark at night. Fortunately the area is safe and quite.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Private room with your very own toilet and sink. Owners let me store my bag there during the day which saved me carrying it around Nachi falls/pagoda. Smaller town but great location if you want to visit the end of the Kumano Kodo or are finishing it off.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Private toilet was nice, also liked the fancy sink and private AC unit. It was in a convenient location pretty near the main train station and quiet at night. I appreciated the many tourist information booklets in the room too which helped me find a great tuna sushi restaurant nearby! The staff were polite and accommodating, letting me do slightly late check-in and held my luggage for me after check-out. They also specifically aired out the tatami mats and linens for me since I'm a non-smoker which made a big difference (no discomfort or smell!) Nachi-Katsurra is also just an amazing place so I really enjoyed my trip overall! Nachi Fire Festival and delicious tuna were the highlights for me!
Cons: Not a big problem for me, but there's no elevator.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: very clean room, nicely new decorated
Cons: nothing much
10.0 Excellent
Pros: it was nice size of room and very comfortable. i like it.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Cosy comfortable rooms. Really nice to have a toilet and sink area in the rooms also! Hairdryer provided, mini fridge and a TV. There's a room downstairs which has massive bath that you can bathe in between 4-10pm.. which is lush. The shower is also in the same room, it's basically a wet room.
Cons: Absolutely nothing to do with the hostel but be aware in town that everything closes at 4pm, and then restaurants seem to open at 6pm. Also not many places will have a English menu so just be prepared!
7.0 Good
Pros: En suite toilet.
Cons: Only the basics, had to pay for towel toothbrush. Very thin futon, no spare. No tissues, soap in room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Have my own room.
Cons: Nothing.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The tatami mat room, clean futon and a fridge, sink and toilet provided in the room!
Cons: It would have been great if there would have been a cold and hot water dispenser and some coffee and tea. Shower room could be a bit better (felt like sharing the family’s personal bathroom and it probably was)

7.5 Good
Pros: We had a spacious room with sitting space overlooking the sea. A lovely onsen (one inside and one in the open air). The hotel is not too far from the station. We arrived too late for dinner but found a wonderful restaurant at just a 2 minute walk: Izakaya: very good food and friendly people. Breakfast was a buffet with japanese food (grilled fish) but also toast and jam if you preffer. Good coffee. A very nice lady served the breakfast and helped us with everything we needed.
Cons: The check in was a bit difficult as the staff did speak very little English, but we managed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was better than I expected. I got the Japanese-style superior room. The view was amazing! The beds were comfortable and the room was just nice to be in. I loved the dinner and breakfast. The front desk and restaurant staff didn't speak much English, but I had no problem communicating with them and they were kind and helpful. The experience was a treat.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing ocean view and spacious accommodation. We loved it!
Cons: It was all great
5.8 Okay
Pros: Ocean view
Cons: Not so good not so bad
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is on the waterfont, but at the same time a walking distance from the station, tuna market and restaurants. We were upgraded to a large oceanfront room which was excellent.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Views from the room. The traditional room itself. The gallery is top to take your time to enjoy of a book. The men's onsen is good enough. The breakfast was good.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Its a short walk from the train station, strategically located near the seaside on a quite but cosy corner of the town. Room is big and the views are quite good. Amenities are all provided for.
Cons: free bicycle rental is only 30 mins. They could charge the user a nominal fee, say 500 yen for half day and 800 for a day. SO I do not need to go to the station to get bicycle rental. Check is 10:00am with no provision for extension. Such inflexibility is unacceptable when the hotel is hardly fully occupied.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice view from the room! Spacious public bath - the outdoor one is awesome.
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great views. Large clean and comfortable room. We were only a couple but room has plenty of space for family stay. Great little local restaurant just a block away.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were delighted to have stayed at a large room with own toilet and basin.
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: Very nice and quite place
Cons: Futon were a bit uncomfortable and bath is only available from 16.00 to 22.00
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was great and the location is about a five minute walk from the station and area with great tuna restaurants. The private baths were nice!
Cons: There were a couple mosquitoes in my room at night so some sort of citronella diffuser or bug spray might help. Rooms are smoking, so they smell a bit like smoke.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I got stuck in Katsuura an extra night because of a typhoon. I arrived to the hostel sopping wet and was immediately greeted with warmth. I was offered a towel to help dry myself off while I filled out my information for the stay. The person who greeted me (maybe the owner) speaks little english as with most people in Katsuura, but with my slightly better comprehension of Japanese I was able to tell him what happened and he even check to make sure the next day would be better for travelling. The room was very clean and big. Really enjoyed my stay here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Highly recommend for the tourists who have a plan to visit Nachi water falls / katsuura. The room is clean and cozy. The host is very kind and gentle.

Cons: It looked a bit tired, especially the garden/pool area
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Magic Ocean view, very large rooms. Outdoor and indoor Onsen. Relaxing place with a very helpful shuttle service.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was lovely with a view of the ocean and the mountains and a sofa in the room by a large widow to enjoy the view. The breakfast was amazing (so many courses!) and delicious and even more special with the jolly pianist playing. One night we ate dinner in the hotel and they created a special menu for us as we were both vegetarian, the dinner was so tasty. The staff were wonderful and couldn't help us enough. They even took us to the station early to get a train free of charge. The shuttle bus to and from Kii Katsura is really handy too.
Cons: Not many grocery stores or restaurants nearby so you either need to eat at the restaurant, head to another town or bring your own snacks.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The people were wonderful and the view from the window was beautiful!
Cons: The beds were very firm.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Outdoor hot springs was amazing.
Cons: Room shower did not get hot water, but barely used since hot springs was available.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Really lovely staff and nice room and hot baths, hotel was very quiet with some floors closed, probarbly due to low season and hardly anybody around in the vicinity but piano player still on duty during dinner and breakfast which was a nice touch. Nothing too fancy but really good value for the money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful hotel, view and service.
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very helpful and friendly. Outside onsen nice but bathing area a bit cold. Breakfast was great. Pianist created a nice ambience during breakfast.
Cons: Due off peak, indoor onsen was very quiet.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This hotel has a great setting with wonderful sunsets across the bay. Free shuttle bus picked us up from station and took us back into town when we did some sightseeing. The staff were cheerful and very helpful. The pianist at breakfast was a wonderfully quirky touch. Would definitely go back.

7.0 Good
Pros: Loved the outdoor onsen.
Cons: The fixtures were old & swimming pool not cleaned. Maybe its because its during the raining season.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Check in and check out was very easy and the staff was helpful and friendly. I have tattoos and that usually means I can't go into hotel onsens, but the service counter provides tattoo covers for 200 yen (very cheap). I would imagine this hotel's location would be a little bit inconvenient without a car, but with a car it was perfect and there was plenty of parking.
Cons: Pillows were quite hard, but that can be common with Japanese accommodations.
7.5 Good
Pros: Free shuttle bus is available from Kushimoto station
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best view of sunrise in the onsen. Room was spacious and cozy. We stay in mountain view room but can still see the Hashiguiiwa.
Cons: They have shuttle bus service until 4 pm. Need to take a long walk up&down the hill if you want to go out to the town at night.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice onsen
Cons: Rooms need to be renovated. All rooms are now non smoking but the smell of smoke is still in the rooms and the whole 12th floor. Burn stains in the carpet, it all looks very shabby.
6.8 Good
Pros: Location of course excellent. Big room. Big view.
Cons: Lacking in ambience, a functional mass tourist hotel catering to tour groups. Just off-season as we were it was fine. Might be different in high season.
7.0 Good
Cons: Bad smell of sigarettes in corridor and room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: very nice view, nice onsen
Cons: breakfast remained below what one would expect from such a resort
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, great service. Beautiful sea view. Free onsen, free shuttle service, breakfast included western options.
Cons: Everything was just perfect.

Pros: This is a genuine Japanes Ryokan with a great atmosphere and wonderul staff. Food was amazing and the service extra special. We were the first European visitors for at least 6 months and I would say to anyone wanting a real Japanese experience with locals, then this is the place.
Cons: Absolutely nothing....... everything was great.

6.3 Good
Pros: Hospitality
Cons: Outdated facility
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff friendliness, location
Cons: we appreciated the friendliness of the staff, but, unfortunately, most could not communicate in English
7.0 Good
Pros: * I like the onsen area * walkable distance to Kii-katsuura station * big and nice hotel compound * nice spacious ryokan style room with separate shoe and beverage area outside the bedroom
Cons: * the common area like receptionist and lobby look old though due to gloomy furnishing: (carpet and sofa) * the staffs can not understand English at all, very difficult to communicate * they do not provide sign for us to put on the door if we do not wish to be disturbed from our sleep etc, hence they will then to knock many times for cleaning or breakfast
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect place to stay after Kumano Kodo / Nachi Falls hike. Easily accessible from mount Nachi by direct bus and 8mins walk. Open-air onsen at the hotel was exactly what we all needed. Also amazing view over the Pacific Ocean from the room. You can watch sunset from your balcony. Lastly, dinner was delicious and indulgent!
Cons: Early check out at 10.00
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The experience was incredibly. It was an immersive intercultural experience! The view from our room was absolutely beautiful. Yuki was our room attendant and she was great. Her English was quite good and she was happy to answer any questions we had.
Cons: Not a thing to dislike. Our stay was perfect!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Hot springs
Cons: Staff unable to speak any other language but Japanese. No Wifi in spite of being advertised as having WiFi, hot springs separated by gender. Small towels...
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location was great, an easy walk from the train station and with a lovely view of the bay. Breakfast was delicious, and our kaiseki dinner was also excellent. The rooms were very comfortable, as was the onsen.
6.8 Good
Pros: Near the station. Good views. Clean room. Nice onsen facility. Staff friendly. Good air con.
Cons: Dated property. Breakfast was large selection but medium quality food. Price relative to value was not aligned. At 40% lower price, I would be rating significantly higher. Our main issue was with the price we paid for the room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: 10 mins walk to the train station, excellent breakfast. An array of choices including local cuisine. Nice onsen and comfortable room. Quiet. Will definitely come again.
7.5 Good
Pros: Comfortable hotel not too far from the train station with outdoor hot spring facilities which have a view of the sea (if you stand up). They also have a small private bath which can be reserved for fifty minutes at a time for an additional charge. It is secluded, but outside. Also much hotter than the public bath. It met my expectations, which were not particularly high. The staff were kind and considerate, if a little nervous when dealing with foreign customers. The sea view from my room was great!
Cons: The facility is quite dated and it shows--rough around the edges, not the cleanest. The breakfast is acceptable, but not up to much. The staff are friendly, and some attempted to use English, but others were clearly quite nervous when dealing with foreign customers. Had a great view of the sea from my room, but the large window wasn't very clean. If I was expecting a much more modern, squeaky clean experience this wouldn't have been ideal--but I've come to know what to expect from these out-of-the-way resorts which must have seen better days once upon a time.
Hotel Nagisaya - Nachikatsuura - Building
17
7.5 Good (359 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you a stay at Hotel Nagisaya in Nachikatsuura, you'll be next to a golf course, just steps from Kawayu Onsen and Hayatama Taisha. This golf ryokan is 0.1 mi (0.1 km) from Kumanogawa Onsen and 0.1 mi (0.1 km) from Kumotori Onsen.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: sea view room.
Cons: the food is not appetizing.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The outdoor onsen is amazing! One of the best I have visited in my 3 years living in Japan. Also the views from the rooms looking across the bay is breathtaking. The rooms are very spacious and clean, with traditional tatami floors and futons. Very generous and delicious breakfast and dinner provided.
Cons: Wifi only in the lobby and was a bit of a hassle to get online through a sign up process. Apart from the rooms and the onsens, the rest of the hotel (like many ryokans) is stuck in the 1980s and doesn't look like it has been renovated since then. It does give it a somewhat kitsch feeling but the price doesn't necessarily match the look of the plac.e
8.8 Excellent
Pros: An on-site open air hot bath
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The view from our room.
Cons: Generally, the hotel looked run down and in need of renovation. Staff were not very visible and hardly any were around. Altogether not value for money.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location and surrounding nature were fantastic! The receptionist was very kind.
Cons: There was a mix up with my room and I thought I was going to have to shift rooms just as I was about to go to sleep which was inconvenient... but the receptionist was very kind and let me stay in the 1st room
7.0 Good
Pros: We love the setting of this ryaokan, which sits by a private bay with great a view. Men's open-air batch by the sea is very impressive. We stayed for two nights with half board option. Food was not fantastic, but good enough. Large quantity, good for long hard walks. Location is good. Less than 1 km from Kii Katsuura train station, an easy walk.
Cons: This is the only ryaokan we stayed in Japan without help with our luggage. They gave us a cart, and watched us to push it into the elevator. A little odd. Front desk felt indifferent. Building looks very old. But inside was good enough and clean.
6.8 Good
Pros: Onsens were lovely but strict using times no body in them at all that was the only place you could shower as well, could not use them during the day,
Cons: Isolated,no laundry, restaurant expensive and only a few guests so they did not really want to cook for us gave us a map in town,so you had to go into town to lawson store for anything at all.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A nice hotel, yet requires some renovations. It would be an amazing family resort vacation hotel if they offered some water sports (ie: paddle boards, kayaks, etc).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Onsen by the sea was stunning as was the room with an incredible view over the bay

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet and tranquil
Cons: Short of staff and assistance
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Room was spacious and very well equipped. Nice terrace to the garden. Large beds with solid mattresses. Bathroom and shower (water pressure) are very good. Very good breakfast (individually western or japanese style). Onsen very good. The staff was very kind and helpful. Surrounding landscape very impressive. Location is remote (=quiet) therefore a car is required for accessibility.
Cons: Restaurant of the hotel was closed and there were only few restaurants in Taiji.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food is absolutely delicious. The outdoor Onsen is nice and relaxing.
Cons: Nothing
4.3 Okay
Pros: the room was bright and tidy
Cons: I noticed there was pee stain on toilet seat so had to clean it up with soap... there was no black out blind at the window so the room was pretty bright from 430am which disturbed our rest. the rooms were meant to be sea facing however our room view was blocked by trees. Overall for a room charging 5-star fee I'm afraid it was not up to the standard.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place, comfortable bed, large room, ocean view, nice breakfast and dinner experiences, friendly staff.
Cons: The surroundings should be cleaned up (Broken floor lamp, damaged fence, hanging cables...).
