Spent the weekend kiting there and everything accommodation related was great. Clean, spacious, well set up little cottage. The bad. Went to dinner one night, buffet was all that was offered which is a shame - usually the restaurant is excellent and actually worth the price. Not this time. The food was mediocre cafeteria quality at best, and the price was outrageous. 130 USD for two plates of rice, beans, and some chicken wings. No alcoholic drinks, no service, just the most expensive rice plate on the island. Is what it is. But I felt that the price of dinner buffet should have been mentioned before the meal and not been a surprise after.
This has to be one of the best resorts I've vacationed at. If you like seclusion and exceptional service, this is the place to go. Every cottage has a spectacular view of the bay. It is definitely on my list of places to visit again.
This is a perfect getaway for a couple or small group, in a beautiful setting. No kids, quiet but there is always life at the bar if you want it. Excellent food and drinks, particularly considering it is all inclusive - no buffets here, and you get what you pay for.
This is the perfect get-away for couples who want to get away from everything (TV, Internet, work, electronics). The food was Great and the staff gave us a fantastic and memorable honeymoon. I wouldn't say I didn't like anything, however I wish they had more choices for snacks throughout the day. Also more non-alcoholic beverage choices would have been nice. However, this is me knit-picking!!! It was a Great Experience
The view is to DIE for and the food was fabulous! Needed more beach towels & chairs.
CoCobay was everything we hoped for-really just as their website shows, a quiet, romantic, vaction in a **beautiful** location. It is a truly unique botique hotel with beaches and views that are second to none. Defintitly recommend an OceanFRONT cottage with the air conditioning and private ''plunge pool.'' These cottages have the most privacy & best views. The all-inclusive menu was very good but small-ish portions. Do feel free to ask for more food, a second appetizer or entree, if still hugry though. Our requests were always honored happily & free of charge. (Tipping goes a long way!). Do bring an IPOD dock if you want any sound-we loved having our own music there especially since no TV's in the rooms. It is a very QUIET place-all couples. Also went to Jolly Harbour-closest grocery & stocked our mini fridge w/snacks, cokes, coronnas, vodka-the only free beer is tap & there really is no ''top shelf'' liquor. I was worried about the bugs since they were mentioned quite a bit in reviews I had read. Honestly-the only time I was bitten was by the bar at night-on my bare legs. I believe they were ''no-see-ems''-tiny small gnat bites-not a huge deal at all. Took the Waddadli catamaran circumnavigation of the island-it was beautiful & they pick you up right on your beach. Also the journey to Shirley Heights on Sunday is worth the trip but take the shuttle. It is a true ''white-knuckel'' drive. We were so fearful to drive back at night that we left before sunset-a shame. Also note: all driving here is very trecherous: pot holes, no signage & crazy local driving. Next time we would skip the rental car. Pool pretty but mostly shaded-we hit the beaches-which are awesome!! 3 separate beaches within sight!
We absolutely loved Galley Bay and the beachfront rooms. Stayed for tens days and still did not want to leave. We thought the food was very good and fell in love with their signature Galley Bay special drink. Was perfect setting for honeymoon as we wanted quiet romantic setting. The bugs on the beach were very annoying. We used an entire bottle of bug spray! It was just gnats but I would think fogging the areas would help.
Room is clean and quite. Good internet to get business completed. Cost was very reasonable. 20 min drive from the job I was working on but well worth it for the nice room. Lots of stairs. Don' go here if you can't walk up and down the stairs
Beautiful hotel, rooms, facilities, views, and great, friendly staff. Not directly on the beach, but easy enough to get there.
The resort is very outdated, but it has a lot of potential. It's a quiet, scenic setting away from the center with beautiful beaches, and the layout is spread out. All-inclusive including alcoholic drinks also a plus. But the food certainly isn't anything to write home about, and serving hours are very limited... on their time, not yours. And there's no A/C, at least not in the garden bungalows ($40 addl. charge per night we were told). The mattresses are hard. The service is average. Not good or bad, it's definitely an older clientale.
If you are looking for a place to get away from it all, and I mean ALL this is the place for you. Hawksbill Antigua is situated on four beautiful beaches and the small but quaint resort is terraced in the hillsides. The view is FABULOUS. The resort is geared toward anyone who wants to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. There is no all day activities staff that blairs music too loud and tries to get you to do things you do not want to do. This you wiil find at the larger chain type all-inclusives. Athough there are few dining options, the food is far superior than what we have experienced at larger resorts. The accomodations are very simple and most rooms do not have a/c, tv, clocks, or radios. So the birds and the ocean are the sounds that you will hear. Taxis are expensive and the roads terrible, so going off the resort can be an issue. The Rainforest Canopy Tour was a blast. Don't miss Shirley Heights, Sunday is the big party day, otherwise go for the awesome view! Don't forget to bring insect repellant.
I decided to stay there after a friend referred my wife and I. We enjoyed ourselves daily. My only 2 issues were that our rooms were a bit of a walk from our cars and I wish there were more local dishes on the menu during our stay. Because I'm from Antigua after being gone for nearly 25 years I would have liked to have a taste. Overall it was a good experience. I met a lady at the front desk who said I looked like a man she knew from 30 years ago. The man happened to be my uncle. That was pretty cool. I also enjoyed liberating myself at the clothing optional hidden beach. My wife on the other hand didn't like that part lol I do wish my room had internet access. I was also told not every room had AC so be sure to ask about having AC if you MUST have to have it. I DO NOT do that well in the heat so I had a great room.
So you know we like Hawksbill - Many of their customers are repeat visitors - some as many as 20 - 25 times. We were welcomed with a cool towel and a cold drink. Check in was easy and quick and we were soon our way to our room. We were upgraded to an airconditioned room on Honeymoon Beach with no extra charge. Hawksbill still has some features of when Antigua was a province of England. There is afternoon Tea and long pants are required for Supper. Sometimes (usually Sunday) there is a Cricket game on the largest beach. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and quiet, probably not a good fit for teenagers. The meals are very good with enough variety at each meal to satisfy all tastes. There is some entertainment most evenings, during or right after supper. We have found the staff personnel to be friendly and knowledgeable, many of them working at Hawksbill longer then we have been going there. The internet is available for a small fee. There are no phones or television in the rooms - a plus in our opinion. Overall, we feel that Hawksbill is a good value for the money.
Nice place, nice staff and all inclusive, what else do you need. Great place to chill
Hawksbill is a relaxed resort without a lot of hoopla or pressure located in a very beautiful setting on the beach in Antigua. They are not the classic white sand beaches, but very nice. The accommodations are comfortable, the food is good and plentiful as are the drinks. If you want a relaxed time with friendly folks around and are not looking for gourmet fare and 5-star accommodations, Hawksbill is a great choice.
We stayed more recently than other reviewers; things have changed! For an all inclusive, you expect that you might be able to eat or drink from more than one location at a time; not so. They say they have 2 restaurants, 1 is poolside for lunch only. You eat from 7-9AM, noon-2PM, and 7-9PM. 7PM is too late for many. The food was limited in choice and terrible. The birds are distracting and all over you during the meals; ants everywhere. You have to go outside to the bathroom if you are in the dining room or lobby. At one point, I was sitting in the lobby area; just getting over a cold and began coughing. I asked for a glass of water from the lady behind the lobby bar and was told no, it was not open and that we had to go down the steps, down the hill to the pool area to get a drink. It was raining and the walkways are VERY slippery and dangerous. We were taken to our room expecting to arrive at a luxury resort from the website descriptions. Instead we thought we were going camping. No TV or A/C, but there was wobbly fan. Screens on both sides of the room, one of which was the sidewalk side so EVERYONE that walked by could see right in your room even while sleeping, changing. You could close the shutters but got no airflow so very hot. Mosquitoes were TERRIBLE! The next day we changed to a room with AC but had to wait 5 hours in the lobby. Pay for drinking water; 2 towels only, horrible mattress, no free safe, bad beach, dirty pool, no REAL activities. Bad location on the island! Stay East/southeast. I travel alot & expected much more.
I have traveled to most of the islands and St. Johns has the most beautiful beaches. I could do without the sandflies....bring bug spray. The staff was very attentive and very warm. Would go again in a heartbeat.
Overall a very satisfactory resort.Food was very good and service was better than I have experienced in a dozen trips to the Islands.Rooms were OK.No A/C and it took them 2 days to fix a ceiling fan.Grounds and facilities were very good and well maintained.
Our family spent our March Break at Hawksbill form Friday March 12 to Friday March 19th, 2010. My review is written from a family’s perspective. (children ages 15,12, 10) We chose this resort because it offered good value, potential snorkeling, and had a breathtaking setting away from crowds and noise. It was definitely one of the most beautiful locations on the island, and we did rent a car for 2 days and drove around the island to explore and compare. If you love quietness, space, not a lot of people and a gorgeous setting, then this is the resort for you. We were often the only ones on the beach when we did our morning and early evening beach walks. HOW TO OCCUPY YOURSELF We found the guests to be mainly seniors at about 60% British, 20% Italian and 20 % American and Canadians . There were a few nights with some good entertainment such as a fantastic Steel Drum band called A.M.P Halcyon Steel Orchestra. The only slightly disappointing thing was that everything packed up by 11pm or earlier. After the kids went to bed, my husband and I wouldn’t have minded staying up a bit later. The most popular resort activity seemed to be reading a book on a lounge chair (of which there seemed to be 2 or 3 available for every person to lounge on) I had to work hard keeping my children entertained as there were no other children at the resort their age, for most of the week, and no television in the rooms. We had planned to snorkel all week, but found the snorkeling not great. If you could manage to swim out to the Hawksbill rock, from Eden Beach, away from the sand, the snorkeling was not bad. It was quite the swim and the kids were ready to turn around and come back shortly after reaching the rock. If you manage to get out to the rock, it gets shallow and the water clarity improves significantly. I didn’t make any new sightings, as there was the usual blue tang and yellow snappers, but no large schools. There was also some okay snorkelling at the dock area, especially swimming...
Beautiful location where they upgraded us to a beachfront cottage with A/C (this was helpful). We visited with 3 other couples and had a great time at dinner. They had a table ready for us each meal.
Staff is friendly and cares about taking care of you. Older resort that has not lost its charm. Some staff members have been there over 20 years. Food is good, wine selection was most excellent for an all inculsive. Beaches are the best we have visitied in Antigua.
