10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely young woman, who managed the place. Nice walk from the hotel to the river. Very homely ryokan.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: YOKI Guest House is an unique option for what is an unique place, the Iya Valley. I was granted with one of those very rare experiences nowadays where you can feel you are actually in a remote place, and my stay over there contributed to that peaceful feeling. The place is just so inviting with its café at the front separating a traditional house on the back, the quietness of nature on late afternoons and the warming fireplace by night. Ushin, who runs the place, is a phenomenal host, an excellent cook (seriously, just try it!) and really way too entertaining for one not to spend time with and talk to, it's a valuable exchange that guests should appreciate more. Overall, it's a decent place for the location and facilities, but a superb place for those who take lodging as more than just accommodation and enjoy experiencing it as much as sightseeing itself.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Leaving
5.0 Okay
Pros: The pick up service to & from the station was excellent. The place was more like a backpackers establishment than a guest house so it depends what you are looking for.
Cons: Apart from the showers the washing facilities lacked privacy. Although we expected to have to buy stuff for breakfast what was there was minimalist.
Overview Reviews
Housed in a remodelled old folk house, which produces warm space, we offer a guest house where you can leisurely relax.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very cute decorations, amazing location and Friendly owners.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was so nice! Very homey atmosphere in an remote space in the mountains. Our hosts also gave us great recommendations for what to see and what to do around the area.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The futon (bed set) was very comfortable, and the facilities clean and well appointed. Also the barbecue set that we rented was very easy to use!
Cons: We were surprised that there were no air conditioners in our room or kitchen/dining area. It was still hot so at first our room was quite stuffy.
7.9 Good
Pros: It is a beautiful and quiet place, make people feel comfortable and relaxing.
Cons: It is not easy to reach, you must drive to there, but the road is narrow, and if you go at night, then there has a little bit difficulty for the darkness.
6.7 Good
Pros: It's a young family with two little kids running this business. The friendly couple owners could not speak much English but they use a device to respond to all our queries. The communal area are very clean. In the kitchen, there are two table-sized gas cookers available for tenants to use for hotpot dinner. Gas provided.
Cons: Outside toilet. It's too cold to go out outside at night for toilet. Also, only one bathroom for over 9 tenants to share.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owners of this small guest house are the most hospitable and generous. The room was simple but oh so comfortable, the shared bathroom/toilet squeaky-clean. The bathtub is a dream. Also, the plum wine that was available for pennies was too tasty. We wanted to stay a little more remote and different, so this was perfect - especially with a car.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, the hosts were very friendly and helpfull! The bathroom was amazing! While sitting in the ( onsen style) bathtub you could look at the mountains. Nice kitchen! Bring your own food and you can cook a nice dinner!
Cons: No airco and very humid. But that’s nature ;)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The owner is friendly, kind and helpful. The environment is quiet and peaceful. Most comfortable stay I ever had in Shikoku. They are very detail and thoughtful for customer especially ladies. Thank you Nissan san and his wife.
Cons: Location not convenient but owner is very kind to give me a ride.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The house is particularly comfortable and pretty, with many hand-made wooden furniture and artefacts. The tiny village is close to the Iya gawa. Nissan, Shizuka and their children are very nice and handsome persons

Pros: The staff literally ran to meet us and to help us whenever necessary. They were extremely helpful in arranging taxis as the property is rather remote (which is what we wanted). Beautiful surroundings, really felt like we were away from so many other tourists. It was literally sad leaving the people. Food was excellent and varied each day. Felt very special having the private dining room our last night there.

Hotel Iyaonsen - Miyoshi - Building
6
8.7 Excellent (751 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Miyoshi, Hotel Iyaonsen is in a national park, a 1-minute drive from Urinating Boy of Iya Ravine and 8 minutes from Iya Kazurabashi Bridge. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free self parking is available onsite.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Disgusting dinner. We opted for the Japanese style option but nothing could be further away from traditional Japanese cuisine. The meat (both pork and chicken) was tasteless. The food in the cheap restaurant 6km down the road was much better without any of the surrounding fuss. We happened to be sitted not far away from the ‘kitchen’. We noticed that all the dishes were frozen or in the fridge, they were just pre-heated before being served. There was no real-time cooking whatsoever. Seeing more foreigners in the dinner room (which looked more like a school canteen) was another bad sign. I have been going on holidays in Japan for many years, after eating in the restaurant of the hotel it was the first time ever I got a diarrhea. It was also the first time ever I did not feel as I was in Japan but more stuck in a tourist trap. Other disappointing features of the hotel: - One has to pay for private access to the onsen, in other hotels of similar rank that is included in the package - No tissues in the room - the cablecar is the last authentic bit of the place, just take it to access the onsen, don’t bother staying in the hotel - hotel placed on the road, the parking nearby can get can busy very early in morning. - the noise of the air-conditioning machines during the night is significant. In a summary this place is very poor value for money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic outdoor bath.
7.1 Good
Pros: onsen
Cons: expensive and breakfast variety were limited
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location in the middle of the Iya valley. Riverside spa. Lovely food.
Cons: Publicity gives impression of super-swank spa, it is not. It is more rustic. Very pleasant and none the worse for that, but be aware what you are booking. Standard rooms are fine for one but not well-designed for two: not enough space: you keep being in each other's way Plastic stools and bowls in spa not wood.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location. Half hour drive by free shuttle bus from JR station. Also included a free night drive to see vine bridge and waterfall. Dinner was delicious. Indulged in private bath. Accommodation is getting a little tired but it is in a beautiful location and very clean.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The fact that it's secluded, the dinner, and the onsen. Staff were helpful
Cons: small room, and expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The dinner was delicious and super fresh produce.
Cons: The hot spring water wasn’t hot enough, not hot to the required hot spring temperature.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent. A complimentary pick up from the local station and a site on the river. The staff were wonderful and couldn’t be more accommodating. Huge smiles all round. The Onsen was very relaxing with views over the gorge. Japanese robes were provided and they were quite happy for these to be worn for dinner. Our Japanese dinner was much more than we expected. The food was excellent and so beautifully presented but again the staff made the occasion
Cons: We struggled with the Japanese breakfast. Again it was beautifully presented but there was so much food. Rice for breakfast is something we can’t get used to. A fault of ours not of the hotel. Great coffee though
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The dinner and breakfast were excellent and the staff were all so friendly and welcoming. We have such great memories of our send off at the end of our stay, with staff members waving us off with the Australian flag. It was so unexpected and a wonderful touch!
7.5 Good
Cons: The lighting is not enough!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The friendly and caring staff. The onsen. The delicious food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location of the hotel is very convenient which is just a few minutes's walk from the sightseeing boat. The dinner is very nice, the chef said that they use fresh and healthy ingredients from the nearby places, so the meat is fresh and vegetables taste naturally sweet. The hotel provided an extra free night tour to see the firefly, it is amazing to have an outting in the night after dinner. Then we go back to the hotel to enjoy the onsen bath and have a good night sleep . Excellent service.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff are very friendly and helpful. The kaiseki dinner was very delicious.
Cons: The boat ride at the gorge was not worth the money. They should give complimentary ride for guests.
6.3 Good
Pros: All the staffs are friendly & informative
Cons: The hotel needs renovation rather old
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great little hotel. Very friendly staff.
Cons: Small bedrooms.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff really stands out. Super friendly from welcoming me to bidding me farewell. Provided me with helpful information about bus connections to the Iya Valley and Tsurugi San. I would like to especially mention the Taiwanese service lady Pei Wen-Huang. When she noticed that my shoes had become wet in the rain, she brought a shoe dryer to my room. The Japanese breakfasts and dinners were amazing. Transfer from and to JR Oboke station worked perfectly. After notifying the hotel about my time of arrival, the driver already waited for me at the station. Nice onsen.
Cons: My room was a bit small.
Tougenkyo-Iya-no-Yamazato - Miyoshi - Outdoors view

Overview Reviews
When you stay at Tougenkyo-iya Mountain Village in Miyoshi, you'll be 15 minutes by car from Iya Kazurabashi Bridge. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Their arrangement is quite good, you just need to drive to the reception officer, their staffs will do the check in for you, then you just have to follow their car to your house. They will teach you to use all facilities of the house including the electronic door lock, air conditioner, cooking devices etc. The environment and the house are great ! The staff is so nice, we drop our wallet at the car park, when he found it, he drove to our house immediately and returned to us. I hope this incident could let his superior know.
Cons: It is not the problem of the hotel, but if you wish to cook by yourself, no big supermarket is nearby so you have reserve sufficient time to purchase. I have asked the hotel before I went and they are were so nice to send me the link of the food shops.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The house is great and super authentic! With an incredible view!
Cons: There are a lot of insects inside the house, huge spiders, centipedes etc. I am not scared of them, so just took them outside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is even better than it looks in the photos! The kitchen is well equipped, there is even a heater for hot pot. Bathroom, toilets, living - clean and comfortable. The view is stunning. We had a pleasant stay!
6.7 Good
Pros: Views from the lodge were gorgeous.
Cons: Very remote and difficult to find.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly people, amazing location and beautiful accommodation.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: New modern design renovated traditional home, everything was perfect inside.
Cons: It is a bit hard to find the location. The hotel can be better if they send instruction to the guest if they didn't book through their main website. We drove route 439 which took us much more time and bit dangerous. Otherwise everything is perfect.

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and luggage storage. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Shuttle service from and to Oboke station. The Onsen was great. Dinner was a feast (but sure to not have eaten anything for a while since they will stuff you with food with their Kaiseki dinner).
Cons: Sound isolation in the room wasn't good.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was great, especially the shuttle driver. The baths were clean and proper and the outside one had a great view.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The valley the hotel was in was gorgeous and scenic. There was a river flowing past the base of the hotel and all the views were great. The onsen had an indoor and outdoor bath and a sauna. The dinner was a variety of different traditional foods and really enjoyable. The breakfast was a buffet which set us up nicely for the day. There was free parking on-site.
Cons: The outside of the hotel was ugly. It didn't fit in with the natural beauty of the area. The interior was clean, but would benefit from some renovations and modernisation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The dinner was sumptuous, so many dishes, artfully displayed. The walk along the Gorge was spectacular. Pick up service to and from the train station very helpful. Bus stop right at the hotel to visit Iya Gorge.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were delightful, japanese style room was great, really useful location, onsen was fabulous...my first time in one and such a bonus to have it at in the hotel. Restaurant food good & not overpriced, useful when all other restaurants within a 1hr drive close at 5pm.
Cons: Although building is a bit outdated, it kind of contributes to the charm!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Located near JR Oboke station, the hotel is the perfect spot to explore Iya Valley region. Hotel offers free pickup service from the JR Station and you can book free shuttle service to return to Oboke Station. The hotel is located closest to the outdoor adventure site and has a gorgeous view of the valley. It is further away from the vine bridge tourist attraction spot but still accessible with the local buses. The building itself is standard Japanese onsen hotel with good public bath facilities. The full course dinner showcases regional delicacies and good way to unwind after long day of sightseeing and soaking in onsen. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful when offering tips on sightseeing tours. We were well looked after during our stay.
Cons: Nothing.
Haretoke Design Hostel - Miyoshi - Building
11
7.7 Good (56 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Set in a former primary school in the Tokushima Region, 29 km from Tsurugi-san Chairlift, Haretoke Design Hostel offers dormitory rooms with views of the mountain. Free WiFi is featured throughout the property and free private parking is available on site. You will find luggage storage space at the property. For guests' comfort, an electric kettle and wash basins are provided in all rooms. Takamatsu Airport is 34 km from the property.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A curious hostel, situated inside an old school in the mountains! Secluded, peaceful and quirky. Cheap dorm room has futons but bring bedding! No washroom but you can get discounted entry to the nearby onsen from the café downstairs (make sure you purchase before you go!) Cafe is also great for coffee and pizza if you're not on too tight a budget. Good walking nearby and enjoying the garden in the silent morning was a treat.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect for going on hikes although make sure you bring food with you as there is no markets or places to buy food nearby. There is the restaurant in the same building though and they serve good food. Make sure you bring a sleeping bag as there are no beds per say in the dormitory and only floor mats. You can also rent a bike for 500 yen/day. Staff was very nice.
Cons: The fact that there were no showers, but at the same time, I got to go to an onsen which is way better than taking a simple shower. if you ask me.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: So much character in such a great location! Loved using our first onsen there too, even though it was definitely more than 30 mins' walk away.
Cons: Showers on the site would've been nice, but the onsen was pleasant.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The view on the mountains is very nice.
Cons: Staff was very unpleasant and spoke very little English. By phone she could not explain how to get to the hostel and it is very difficult to get to this place without a car. On the spot, it turned out that there are no sleeping bags, even though the site says it is. It was very cold at night. The hostel is dirty, there is no shower and the place is terrible. We do not recommend this place to anyone.
7.9 Good
Pros: Amazing location in the mountains. Surprisingly well heated inside the rooms considering its remote location (we stayed in late November when it was getting quite cold). The cafe had great pizza! Clean rooms and friendly staff.
Cons: Access is very difficult if you don’t have a car. Being a converted primary school made for a cool experience, except getting up to go to the toilets meant walking down an open balcony to get there - very cold! Kind of reminded me of glamping.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located in an old primary school, which I would have found scary if I had stayed there by myself. My friend and I loved it, we had such a great time and because of our plans for the next day, it was the perfect location. I'd stay again! Note: there are no bathing facilities, so use the local onsen.
Cons: There is a cafe on site, but it closes at 6pm and doesn't open until 11am, an hour after check out. So, if you're arriving later and leaving early take your own provisions
7.9 Good
Pros: The cafe is nice, The location is beautiful
Cons: The property is isolated No cooking facilities and no near by restaurants
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location was amazing, the rest was workable
Cons: We arrived in the evening, and it looked like a place straight out of a horror movie. I kind of liked the old creepy school atmosphere, but it did not look as cozy as the pictures make you believe. You also need to bring your own sheets and basically will sleep on the ground. But in my opinion, the view in the morning alone is worth it.
Awanosho - Miyoshi - Building

7.6 Good (560 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Miyoshi, Awanosho is within a 15-minute drive of Oboke Gorge and Oboke Iya Onsen. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a water dispenser. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.1 Good
Pros: Room was specious. Location was good for us on the way from Oboke gorge to Takamatsu.
Cons: The futons were not comfortable
4.2 Okay
Pros: Onsen is superb! Old Japenese style Onsen with hot spring from the source which makes your skin smooth like silk and very relaxing. Dinner and breakfast are included in my stay. Dinner is appetizing and bountiful, so as the breakfast.
Cons: 30 min walk from the closest station ,Minawa Station, and Local transportation is not very convenient only a few train stop there in a day, please reconsider if you don't drive. End up I walk 30 min from Minawa to check in and 50 min to Awa Ikeda when check out, although it is ok for me but I won't recommend to those who don't drive or taxi there. The facilities is getting old and a bit dirty (especially the windows, covered with bug spat and spider web).
7.9 Good
Pros: Very good food, dinner as breakfast. The real Japanese dinner. Very friendly personnel! Nice onsen. Good location to explore activities in the Iya valley
Cons: The whole place really needs a complete refurbishment. It is old fashioned with stains in carpets and furniture. Although bed and towels are very clean they should consider better cleaning of the whole place (especially windows). This place has a lot of opportunities! Having said that I would go again to this place due to the friendliness, Onsen, and very good food!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: spacious room with river view English speaking staff
Cons: At the top of a hill and not very convenient if you don't have a car although there is bus service.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and the hotel has a good atmosphere. The evening performance added to the folklore, dinner was excellent, good value for money.
Cons: Location, it’s at the North end of the valley.
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff are very friendly and helpful. The meals are delicious.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: nice staff, spacious room, 25 minutes driving to Oboke. good meals both dinner and breakfast, high quality spring water onsen, reasonable room rate, second stay here, will come back again.
Cons: dirty room windows
6.3 Good
Cons: The hotel is hard to find and you will need a car or taxi from Awa-Ikeda. Its a huge complex with only a few people staying in the hotel. The pillows were horrible hard with hard plastic balls to try and lie my head on. So used my clothes as a pillow. Bathing is a long way from my room which meant walking thru reception area to get there. there were only a few rooms occupied you would think staff would have position me closer to the bathing area, as there are no bathrooms in the room. would not stay here again and would not recommend. Its an old hotel but clean enough. No atmosphere in the middle of nowhere.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The Onsen was good and the room was comfortable and traditional Japanese style
7.5 Good
Pros: Hotel staff were excellent, in spite of language barrier. Food was very good. Evening Awa Odori performance was a nice surprise.
Cons: Hotel facilities are a bit worn: especially carpets and furniture.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff literally ran to meet us and to help us whenever necessary. They were extremely helpful in arranging taxis as the property is rather remote (which is what we wanted). Beautiful surroundings, really felt like we were away from so many other tourists. It was literally sad leaving the people. Food was excellent and varied each day. Felt very special having the private dining room our last night there.
Cons: Bathrooms and hallway carpets felt a bit dated.

Cons: The rooms are a bit dated but it didn't affect the experience at all!
