8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was nice & clean, plenty of furnishings & extras. The gentleman that helped me with check-in was very helpful, courteous & professional. I requested an early check-in, I arrived much earlier than I had anticipated and stopped to check if there would be a room available, he took my phone number and phoned me as soon as my room was available; in the mean time he offered to provide me with directions for places to wait if I wished.
Cons: The young lady that was at the desk when I went to see when a room would be available was very rude, made snide remarks about my inquiry and rolled her eyes at my request. I felt she was very unprofessional and not courteous to me and when you’re paying $216 for one night I would expect excellence from the staff.

Pros: Easy check in and nice room
Cons: We could hear the guy in the room next to ours snoring... we were wondering how thin are these walls? Also the town trucks started filling sand and salt at 4am... it was loud and disruptive.

6.5 Good
Pros: This place has a great view and is very unique. breakfast was good.
Cons: The hospitality was extremely poor. We were left waiting for both check in and check out. We arrived to the place being completely dark, when the staff arrived everything was rushed without giving us a proper explanation about the room, breakfast, the area and so on. All interactions were rushed and unpleasant. Definitely tainted our stay at this very unique place. Lastly the place is filled with taxidermy, if that is not your thing or you are ethically against it, this is not the place for you.

8.7 Excellent (106 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in East Montpelier, High Hill Inn is within a 10-minute drive of Lost Nation Theater and Vermont College of Fine Arts. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Inn Keepers were so friendly and hospitable. She even called a local Italian Restaurant and made dinner reservations for us. She watched the weather and kept us updated on the snow storm headed that way. Great views from every room in house.
Cons: Driveway was icy but they let us park on the grass under a tree. Showed concern for our safety and were willing to find another parking spot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Annemarie and Joe are perfect hosts who make you feel very welcome in their beautiful home. The location is really impressive, especially if you like nature as we do.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Dixons were warm welcoming hosts. Their home was beautiful with many thoughtful touches. We had a private suite on the 3rd floor with a breathtaking view. The breakfast was sumptuous. Anne Marie is an amazing cook who features local purveyors.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Ann-Marie and Joe are wonderful hosts; very friendly, warm, and accommodating. The rooms are comfy and the food that they prepare every day is fantastic ! Highly recommend.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Outside surroundings in the back of the house were scenic
Cons: Bugs in the room; messy lower level; parking area unattractive; difficult to find the place; not particularly spacious -- advertising photos of the place are very misleading.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostess, Annemarie was very friendly and accommodating and prepared me a delicious breakfast. I was the only guest staying there on that particular day and we shared a conversation over breakfast. I arrived early and was able to check in early which was very convenient. There were some goats by the barn (they were not what I would consider wild
Cons: Everything was lovely! No complaints except my trip was too short and I would have loved to have been able to spend more time there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is just exceptional with beautiful views of the mountains and forest. It is tucked away enough so you feel that you are away from it all, but it is just minutes to downtown Montpelier and activities. The owners are helpful and friendly and they make one heck of a great breakfast. The rooms are cozy and the value is great. We will definitely be staying here again.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The WiFi was fast, reliable and very strong. The area was quiet and a great view of the forest. The bed was comfortable. The TV and channels were very good.
Cons: The pictures on booking.com must have been take some time ago. The place is in decay and we booked a queen room which stated that it was air conditioned (it was not), It does not have a fan, the bathroom is a shared bathroom, and there is owner "stuff" in the bathroom cupboard so there is no place to unpack your bathroom necessaries. The yard is littered with rusting cars and equipment and the house is a rubbish tip. The place needs some good maintenance and a spring clean. Considering the cost of this place I cannot recommend staying here. Stay at one of the charming hotels in town. Breakfast was a shambles and quite poor given the price we paid.

Overview Reviews
Located in Barre, Hollow Inn and Motel is a 2-minute drive from Barre Opera House and 8 minutes from Knight's Spider Web Farm. Featured amenities include a business center, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.0 Good
Pros: I liked my first stay at that hotel. I didn't my second. I may give them another shot, but they'd better be good to keep my business -- plenty of choice in the area for that price.
Cons: Renovations in the bathroom -- painting and structural problems of the door. The bathroom door was making loud noises when opened and closed. Renovations should have been finished before that room was rented. Also, I had to wait for 30 minutes at the reception desk before someone showed up. I emailed the property to advise them a about my arrival.
6.0 Good
Pros: The breakfast was O.K., but I don't need much. My first morning the food supply was running low, as I arrived during the final half hour of service time (i.e. - just after 9:00 a.m.). So the second morning I made it a point to arrive earlier (by 30 minutes or so), and they did still have some eggs in the server. But they were cold and had been there for quite a while. And the milk for the cereal seemed to have been sitting our on the counter all morning. For the breakfast area is not very well serviced, likely due in part to a staffing shortage. I did get something satisfactory to eat, however. The desk clerk was very helpful, and the rooms were quite large. Location right on the main route was convenient & easy to find & access. And the bedsheets were among the best I've ever seen, really high quality & comfortable!
Cons: Ice making machine was broken, and apparently had been for some time. Staffing was short, as the desk clerk seemed to also be responsible for breakfast in the lobby, and even was doing housekeeping in the rooms! Appearance of the hallways & lobby area was quite "tired", and could use some refreshing. But overall, things seemed to be reasonably clean.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, nice clean rooms, good breakfast, no complaints.
Cons: Nope!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable on a trip.
Cons: The “Free Extensive Continental Breakfast” advertised on the sign, was not as advertised (mist everything empty after 7am)... thankfully we’d brought our own food so this wasn’t a big deal for us - tho may be for others.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: 4th year visiting, always welcome and accommodating upon arrival.
4.0 Okay
Pros: It was very quiet and the desk attendant was pleasant.
Cons: Our door was not very air tight, you could see the outside around the edge and the lock was less than secure. The room was dated but the beds and bathroom were very clean. I was not expecting 5 stars due to the price, it was ok for one night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming staff and clean premises. The rooms were spacious. Breakfast was good, and they allowed us to eat and didn't rush us, although we showed up at the end of the service.
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Upon arrival I was offered another room for the same price. Much to my suprise when I opened the door it was like an apartment. I was very impressed.
Cons: There wasn’t a dislike
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I was pleasantly surprised at the room. I had booked a dbl queen and ended up with a king. The room configuration was incredible. Wet bar with microwave and refrigerator, large bedroom and bathroom and a bonus sitting area with a 3 person couch and two comfortable chairs with a table. The room could be closed off using a solid wood pocket door and the couch was s pullout bed. This was an incredibly good deal. It is an older property, but do not let that stand in the way. Staff was very accommodating.
Cons: Parking lot area was extremely bumpy, but it does slow traffic down!
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location was ok but we were up in the back and one of the room doors would not open not even for the staff. We were given a second room which was quite cold and took awhile to heat up. The lock on the door to the ajoining room (wasn't our 2nd room) wasn't fitting right and looked as though it could easily have been opened. Made us a bit nervous. The lights in that room were dim and there were wiring issues. The tissue box in our 1st room was empty and there were no extra blankets in either room so only one on each bed and it was a very cold night. Maybe the rooms downsatairs were better but these up in the back were not so. The rooms were large and clean for the most part and the breakfast was good.
7.0 Good
Cons: place is functional but dated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our room was huge. It had a balcony and a small kitchenette. Location was good for us, and we enjoyed the hot tub after a long day of skiing. Will definitely stay there again.
Cons: Breakfast could have been better, but for free breakfast on $75 a night, I can't complain.

Cons: Wifi didn't work. When I asked for it to be reset I was told that it couldn't be.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Kind staff, good parking, good coffee
Cons: Room needs to be updated, scuffs and scrapes on walls, WiFi doesn't work, tv barely gets reception
1.0 Poor
Pros: The breakfast was a little better than expected
Cons: It's a filthy dump with people living in it full time. Welfare people. My room stunk like it had been smoked in for 20 years even though it was supposed to be a non smoking room.
5.0 Okay
Pros: I liked the sausage and that the price was cheap.
Cons: The toilet bowl had black stuff in it. The parking lot was very chaotic.
6.0 Good
Pros: It is close to downtown.
Cons: The carpet in the rooms have a smell.
1.0 Poor
Pros: There is nothing good to say about this hotel. It is a very disgusting, dirty, smelly, horrible flop house.
Cons: The first thing you notice is the room stinks. Wallpaper peeling off the walls. Carpets are stained. Beds uncomfortable (springs sticking up through mattress). Floor uneven and slants in places. Lighting in room very bad. Overall, this is a HORRIBLE HOTEL
4.0 Okay
Pros: The receptionist was helpful and assisted with getting us a taxi to the train and the fact that breakfast was included was a bonus.
Cons: The hotel is very run down and old and needs some attention. There is a terrible smell throughout which is impossible to get used to and the rooms are very dark.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very pleased with my stay. I wanted a simple, economical place to stay on a ski weekend. Microwaves and coffeemaker meant I could have more options for food. Rakesh was a great manager. Motel was old but clean. And it wasn't really a "motel" anymore because they'd built an outer hallway. I will stay there again.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location is straight across the road and up the hill 1/2 mile from Sarducci’s... Best Italian restaurant ever! It was close by to the show we saw and my husband’s meeting the next day. Great price, very affordable.
Cons: Bed was very uncomfortable. Carpet was gross. Biggest complaint is the bathroom reeked of smoke. Irritating because there are several signs that say it’s a smoke free building and $150 cleaning fee if you smoke in the room. I suffer chronic migraines and this stay made me so nauseous from the smell and triggered a severe migraine. I tried to complain at front desk, as the man came I’m from smoking and reeked himself.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Close to downtown.
Cons: The floors were not even swept. Pubes in the bathtub. The fridge froze my food solid. The only window in the room led to a hallway, so had to be closed the whole time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: friendly staff, close to my family
Cons: nothing
1.0 Poor
Pros: Decent breakfast
Cons: Worst place I have ever stayed! Absolutely filthy!!!

4.0 Okay
Pros: The Hilltop Inn is in a great location, right off of I-89 with roads that go directly into Barre and Montpelier.
Cons: The hotel could use some TLC and updating. It's condition is a shame because it is in a great location. The room felt grungy and the linens were not as bright and clean as you'd expect. We requested new sheets but they were gray too. It was a non-smoking room but there was a stench of smoke permeating throughout the place. It was a cheap stay for the money but we will not be going back.

5.0 Okay
Pros: The rooms were quiet. I did not hear any of the rooms around us.

Cons: nothing
1.0 Poor

Cons: Worst place I have ever stayed! Absolutely filthy!!!
