The locations was great - right between Montpelier and Barre, Vermont which easy access from I-89. it smelled clean, but the building was old. It seemed to be a place that contractors and truckers used for a place to stay while working in the area or traveling through so it was quiet. No elevator. Outside doors are unlocked until midnight. When they are locked you have to use the main entrance - you cannot use your hotel key to open the door closest to your room. It was a little scary to be walking in at 10:30 pm and the door was unlocked and I had to you the staircase to get to my room. The comforter on one bed had stains on it. The tub did not drain and the spigot was covered in calcium buildup. Only 1 set of vending machines and only 1 ice machine.
The food is basic motel fare and the staff are very pleasant. This is a basic place to stay, get sleep and to about your daily events. Plenty of hot water for showers and the location is excellent. Cleanliness has always been a problem here. Some rooms are better than others as they have been slowly freshening the rooms. Again, basic place to sleep at night.
Kind and helpful front-desk staff, very convenient location to Montpelier & Barre. The pool and pool building was pretty cool (cold), so we couldn't enjoy it as long as planned.
The room was clean and the heater worked. This is critical in Vermont. Thin sheets on the bed. One bed had dirty sheets or they couldn't get a stain out. In Vermont you have to offer comforters at least.
Fine room for the money Breakfast was pretty weak
shower pressure poor due to water stop wasn't working correctly and water was going through tub as well
Great location, J.P. Morgan's restaurant is excellent. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Mattresses need updating as they are very hard, this takes some getting used to.
Dinner was excellent in the restaurant (JP Morgan?)and reasonably priced. One of the best meals we had on our trip. Convenient parking outside the hotel. Centrally located in the middle of Montpelier. Excellent quality bathroom toiletries.
You received the basics: clean room and bed, a good breakfast, and a nice warm shower The bed was really uncomfortable.
Large bed, cleanliness was good. Breakfast included was unexpected. Older decor, and very old vending machine products....scary.
The pool, game room and outdoor playground made this a perfect place to stay with our young children!
fantastic breakfast included in the price, which was a very good value.Excellent pool/whirlpool.Courteous front desk employees, and very helpful. Waterbury and Stowe had no places to take the kids(13 and 10 years old).Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory was a joke---they want $20 each person for a tour!!!!!!
Love what they've done to the firehouse! The room was very cute and cozy, it was more like staying in an apartment than an inn. The sitting area in the hallway was a great idea. Loved that there was the history of our room along with the firehouse. We had a baby with us, luckily a family member in town had a pack n play. Maybe invest in a couple in case you have other out of towners. Also maybe some kind of blind for the stained glass. Very hard to sleep with the bright hallway light on your face.
Spacious room, kitchenette, wonderful hosts No vanity space for toiletries (minor nit)
It felt like home away from home. The overall experience was just fantastic. We didn't want to check out. We have recommended this place to all of our friends! There is not much to complain about.
Clean and friendly. No breakfast.
Large room First room was filled with mold and must, almost nauseating, broken door, no lock on door, filthy - switched rooms - second room was also dirty, but everything did work properly and no awful smell. I would not recommend this hotel.
We were arriving on Christmas day so the owner sent us an e-mail about a month before to make sure we had dinner reservations for Christmas dinner. The staff was so welcoming and nice. We want to go back in the summer.
My husband and I stayed here while visiting Sugarbush. The staff was amazing and made us feel welcome without being overbearing. We had never stayed at a B&B in this area and didn't know what to expect. All I can say is that we can't wait to come back again!
this place was perfect. It was one of the cleanest places I've ever stayed and everyone was friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back i wish this really excellent 'throwback' style motel wasn't surrounded by chain restaurants and retrial stores, but there's nothing you can do about that. To be clear, the motel itself isn't negatively impacted by its surroundings.
Greeting staff were lovely The rooms and bathrooms need to be totally refurbished. This motel is OLD, OLD, OLD and nothing has been updated in 40 years.
Extremely clean & comfortable & safe. No complaints
We stayed here with a group of friends and family for our wedding in the Longhouse, which is a separate building across parking lot from main building. Loved the rooms that have been redone (did not see the attached Annex rooms, which have not been completely renovated). Great layout allows for more than 2 people to stay in the room comfortably. (Some had a door from each sleeping area to shared bath; others the sleeping areas were separated by hallway with bath in between.) The Longhouse/Annex building worked out perfectly for our group as we rented 6 of the 8 rooms and had our own little area. There was some comfy lawn furniture where we spend time relaxing on a nice day. Breakfast was great and all staff was super friendly and accommodating. One of our guests had to work remotely and they not only let her check in very early, but offered her free breakfast as it was 9am. Food in the restaurant is superb. Great draft beer selection, extensive bar. The pub area is a great place to hang out as they have a casual indoor & outdoor dining, couches, TV, shuffle board, air hockey, and other games. We were really impressed with some of the small details, like the bathroom fan that works on a motion sensor, thermostat that gives outside temp & weather report. Owners Andrew and Heather were super friendly. Heather made a point to come introduce herself when we were checking out as I had not run into her during our stay. We love it and plan to stay here whenever we are in the Valley. No full length mirrors in the Longhouse. I agree with another reviewer that room could use a second mirror somewhere outside the bathroom. The pub area becomes overrun with children at times (esp during ski season), which is great if you are there as a family but a bit much if you're not.
It was cheap. That's about all I can say here. The electrical outlets in our room would've been a joke, if they weren't so concerning. The surge protector plugged into an orange extension cord run along the outside of the room was a nice touch. One outlet just didn't even work (so who knows what's going on behind that rough looking wall!). There was a general musty smell everywhere. The breakfast wasn't fantastic, and was made worse by the fact that it was in a basement that felt like a sweat lodge. The pillows were horrendous and lumpy.
