Third generation proprietor Hiroshi Sato greets every guest as they check-in. The ryokan is truly a hidden gem. A short cab ride from Nagoya Station and you are transported to an amazing property that captures many elements of a traditional Japanese ryokan and fuses these with Mr. Sato’s extraordinary sense of modern design. The room selection ranges from a shared dorm space for single or budget travelers to lavish suites for up to 4 persons. We stayed in one of the two fantastic suites. The room included a mini-frig, an upscale drip coffee machine, Villeroy & Boch mugs, and several drinking and wine glasses. Air conditioning could be controlled in-room. In a common area, all guests are invited to self-serve beautiful Japanese plates, additional glassware, and utensils. There is also a shared complimentary self-serve coffee and tea machine, as well as a number of amenities such as bath scrubbers and cosmetic kits. Two additional features standout. The property includes a traditional Japanese bath house, with separate areas for men and for women. Thought not large, the bath house offers a truly Japanese experience. Guests are provided use of wash cloths and towels, high-end POLA shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, Sekkisui facial cleansers and lotions, as well as hair dryers. Additional amenities free for the taking are Japanese tabi socks. Guests are encouraged to walk around the property in provided yukata, traditional Japanese resort wear. The final standout feature was the amazing meals prepared by Mr. Sato and his talented wife. Though not inexpensive, the specially prepared traditional dinner and Japanese breakfast are worth every penny for showcasing local delicacies. Upon checkout, Mr. Sato surprised us with parting gifts, home-baked mini-cookies and a snack bag of local items. He gave us a brief tour of his latest hospitality masterpiece, a new 4-person suite on the ground floor that includes a small Japanese garden feature in-room!

We did not purchase a meal plan. Our host was very helpful with excellent English. The property obviously is set up for "Non-Japanese" visitors and makes you feel very welcome. Beautiful central garden. Public bathing area was fine. Lots of brochures on local restaurants. Free coffee and tea 24 hours a day in the lobby. Very clean and well kept. We thought it was a good value if you want to stay in a very traditional setting.

Our experience was great. The walk from the central train station was a bit of a trek and the closest subway is a bit of a walk too.

The property and garden are well maintained. They have a bathhouse which was appreciated after a long day. Condition of the room was good with thoughtful touches.

Toilet/bathroom was on the small side.
