The staff were friendly and the location was stunning.
The fittings and fixtures need attention. The toilet didn’t work at all, zero water/flush and the bathroom sink tap was falling off. Would have been five star accomadation 15 years ago but hasn’t been maintained.
Breakfast was an excellent continental style. All you can eat buffet with a good range of options. Location is excellent. Hideaway Island is a wonderful haven for water sports. Snorkelling is very easy with a reef and abundant fish just a few metres of the beach.
We booked a Beach Lodge, which has shared facilities. The bathrooms were not particularly clean, seemed to only be cleaned once per day which is not enough when used by a number of lodges. Our lodge was in poor condition inside. They seem to be renovating them and we got the last one that has not been renovated yet. The one next to us was in much better condition and was empty for the whole of our stay. We booked the Melanesian Banquet evening on Thursday. Having done something similar in Hawaii, we expected a veritable feast and an entertainment extravaganza. We were disappointed on both counts. The food consisted of some strange dishes so were not sure what we were eating. Nothing on the buffet that we felt we wanted to go back for a second helping of. Which was just as well because they cleared it all away while we were eating. The entertainment consisted of the resort staff singing and dancing around a fire. The meal and entertainment were all over within an hour, which seemed quite brief given the cost of the event.
We loved everything above Hideaway Island. We stayed in a beach villa which exceeded our expectations by far. It was perfect for our family (two boys). We loved the freedom the children had to play on the beach especially while we were waiting for our beautiful evening meals. The coconut curry was superb! Our boys (4 and 6) loved waking up and heading out for a kayak then a snorkel. The staff are fabulous, super friendly and great with kids. We loved our stay and highly recommend it to other families. Don’t forget your reef shoes, they are a must!!!
The super-friendly staff who made us feel so welcome and at home, especially the wonderful Stella in Reception, Josh, Veronique, Richard and all the other staff in the kitchen and behind the bar, Roy on the ferry and Brian and Greg in the Dive shop, plus all the other happy friendly staff who's names I didn't catch. The fish we could see snorkelling just off shore were spectacular and we even saw a couple of turtles! The included glass bottomed boat tour, snorkel safari and the use of snorkel equipment, kayaks and stand-up-paddleboards meant we were never bored and spent so much time in or on the water. Stella's village walk is a must if you have the time. It really helped us to appreciate the struggles the local villagers have endured especially since cyclone Pam. That we could walk to the Cascades from the ferry was a bonus too!
Don't forget to bring reef shoes.....the coral on the beach is sharp!!!
The snorkeling right out front was calm and good, feel worlds away on the island but your not! So very affordable and they gave many of us our own cabin!
Explanation of what to do when dropped At the jetty not just left ! Was easy once I knew.
