Hotel Casa de Caldelas - Castro Caldelas - Bedroom
1
9.3 Excellent (833 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Castro Caldelas, Hotel Casa de Caldelas is in the historical district, within a 10-minute drive of Ponte da Boga and Bodega Adega Vella. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
7.5 Good
Pros: A little gem great location for visiting the sil canyon
7.5 Good
Pros: Very clean and stylish hotel. Great location
Cons: Staff doesn't speak English at all. Very poor breakfast - piece of bread with cut tomatoes (I can't call "a toast" piece of bread more than 2 sm thick), a little bit jam and butter, orange juice and coffee. On the breakfast photo there is cheese , but only on the photo.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great, the hotel is in the main square, only few meters from the historic castle of the town. Operators were really kind and available. Perfectly cleaned rooms and tasty breakfast at their coffee bar.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: It was cold. They seemed reluctant to use the central heating. I asked once for it to be put on and they did but only for a short time and not at all in the morning ( which was frosty)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: beaufiful little property clean and well decorated. in a great location next to the castle.
Cons: nothing at all
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully clean, modern accommodation in an older style building set right in the centre of town just a short walk from the castle (which is well worth a visit). There were tea and coffee facilities and bar fridge in the room, an oscillating column fan which was welcome and kept us nicely cool, a comfortable and nicely presented communal lounge area. Breakfast was at the cafe over the town square just 100m from the main hotel building. Breakfast itself was basic- sourdough toast, condiments, a lovely fresh sugar coated sponge cake and tea or coffee. This was included in the room rate (€55). Great value. Of note - we’re travelling by motorcycle and having contacted the hotel prior to our stay, they kindly gave us use of a secure garage under the hotel which was brilliant. The hotel foyer had some lovely tasteful souvenirs and local produce (wine, olive oil, jams etc) Wifi was excellent- which is important to us). Lovely friendly staff. Great value - thoroughly recommend this gem.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was just perfect from the moment we arrived. We only stayed here one night, as we were touring on a motorcycle, but this could have easily been a place where we could have had a rest day and kicked back for longer. The staff were really helpful and the hotel is very well designed and run professionally. The food was excellent as was the linen and beds. The en-suite bathroom was spacious and well equipped. The evening menu was a fixed four course and made fresh. There was no vegetarian option however my fish eating partner was well catered for with an improvised, expanded, second starter. Breakfast was buffet type with plenty of variation. The location is remote and beautiful overlooking a reservoir in lush parkland. There was no garage parking for our bike but it could be parked directly outside the front if you wished. You got the feeling that all would have been well even if you left the keys in it so it was not a concern. Overall we thought this hotel perfect for a touring stopover and astonishingly good value for money.
Cons: If you were staying in one of the rooms above the bar area (with the stunning views across the reservoir, ie room 115) you might be disturbed by the noise below. It didn't bother us but for those seeking absolute peace it might be better getting a room on the other side. No vegetarian option at dinner, see below.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything ! For us the 10 was the minimum; a 12 is closer to reality

Pros: I was on a wine tour, stayed there one night. Could try a few wines in the restaurant, which is hard to find. Very helpful staff!!! Liked everything!! Cant wait to go back there soon. Parking is very easy and comfortable.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great staff who made a big effort to check dishes for my special dietary needs & providing gluten free bread & soya milk. We had a fabulous meal on one of the two nights. The room was small but good use of space so plenty of storage for our gear. Very comfortable bed. Convenient to have a mini bar we could use for our bottled water. Aircon was brilliant.
Cons: We had a lovely quiet stay on Thursday but some Spanish guests were dreadfully noisy until almost 1am, shouting on the landing outside our room. As they were up late the staff were then noisy clearing away glasses & plates - the interior is marble & tile & I don't think they realise how noisy it sounds in the rooms above.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent for our purpose. Friendly staff.
Cons: The air-conditioning in the children's room was giving off a bad smell
8.3 Excellent

Cons: My only grumble if I had one was that the restaurant didn't start serving food until 2100hrs, but there was a range of tapas and bar food available.

Pros: Fantastic imaginative organic food. Warm welcome. Peaceful and rural location.
Cons: Better lighting in bedroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Casa da Cabaza is wonderfully peaceful place to stay. The views are beautiful and Siets is an excellent host. We would definitely recommend staying if you would like to experience rural Galicia. And delicious fresh food! The meals we had were both excellent. It is a nice change to stay somewhere in this region that offers so much veg! It is easy to find and close enough to Sarria and Monforte to explore larger centres. Self drive is necessary to get the most out of your stay.
6.0 Good
Pros: There was a problem with a leak and we were immediately moved to another room. Building was very interesting and the conversion well thought through. The second room we inhabited was rather superior to the first.
Cons: The first room we were housed in was very noisy from the floor above (wooden floor with no insulation. Room was also small and dark though I am sure the manger/owner would have moved us had we complained.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Casa has been beautifully restored and the attention to detail is astonishing. Our hosts, Carmen and Arturo, were very generous and welcoming. We don't speak Spanish and they don't speak English, but we managed with a little French and the Collins Spanish/English dictionary. This system worked very well after a few of Carmen's home made lemon liquers.

6.3 Good
Cons: The service. The atmosphere was bad between the staff
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the suite with a balcony and thoroughly enjoyed watching the sun set over the river with a bottle of wine. The hotel restaurant made us a lovely tuna salad, which supplemented a picnic of local meats and cheeses we'd bought in the market for dinner - eaten al fresco on the balcony. The bathroom we nice and the bed very comfortable.
Cons: Breakfast (5€ per person) included cake, bread, butter, jam, fresh orange juice and coffee. Each of these things was of nice quality, but I prefer protein at breakfast and would have liked some non-carb option.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: the staff is great and very helpful, the views from there are amazing (the sun going down into the river is very beautiful), there is a coffee/bar service which is great and it is quite easy to park. The food was great (we had dinner and the meat was amazing)
Cons: the room was full of flies, I suppose it is due to the fact that it was a ground-floor one, not sure. Also, there isn´t much isolation in terms of noise so we didn´t sleep up to when the restaurant was closed and after they would throw the rubbish,
7.5 Good
Pros: Despite language barriers the staff helped us plan a wonderful day. Wished we had asked for help sooner
Cons: The location is a bit off the beaten track. and the roads are confusing. Local map was incredibly useful
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Leaving
Cons: During my stay at some point while we were out for the day money was stolen from my suit case so for any body staying there make sure you leave no money or valuables in your room Also the food was appalling practically inedible So it didn’t matter about anything else the fact that money was taken nothing can make me recommend this place I am very disappointed that my whole trip to this wonderful country has been ruined by one low life individual
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely view over the valley in a quiet little village. Room was spacious and warm. Lovely lounge and courtyard, plus cafe attached
Cons: When we arrived at 5pm the whole place was locked up. So let them know when you will arrive as they close the bar/cafe in the afternoon. Breakfast was basic

Cons: Everything was great (it's amongst the best Parador in which we've ever stayed), except dinner. The best dishes were barely decent, and the octopus was bad. Breakfast, however, was quite impressive. To sum up: go, take the breakfast, but go out for dinner (O Grelo, 200m downhill, was very good).
7.5 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Food when finally arrived was stone cold after much deliberation and poking of cold food by waiting staff it was taken away and microwaved and bought back same food same plate and prodded by waiters. If this is a gastro restaurant it desaerves to be shut down disgusted is an understatement

Pros: Great service in an excellent location and gorgeous cafe / bar downstairs. Good, unique, minimalist decor. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Cons: We were in Room 3, which didn't have any windows to the exterior / main street, but an internal balcony which poured light in from an internal stairwell (or somewhere) from very early in the morning.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was a very homely guesthouse where I felt very welcome and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was presented in a tasteful way décor-wise, quite unique. The food was generous and nice. It was one of the most pleasant hotels yet. An effort was made with me as I am not a Spanish speaker.
Cons: There was a bit of a problem with a water leak in the shower cable, just before I left.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good value for money, clean and comfortable. Excellent location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Well located, spotlesslu clean, charming decor and outstanding hospitality.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Basic but clean reasonably priced accommodation with very friendly and helpful owner. Very good location with Gadis supermarket accross the road, "Excelence" Lavanderia Autoservicio 100 meters up the road (the best I have used for a long time), post office and taxi rank nearby, and very close to restaurants in town centre. Also close to the impressive "Colegio de Nuestra Senora de la Antigua" building - a guided tour of which (starting at 12-45 and costing 4 euro) should not be missed. This accommodation consists of a ground floor cafe, with two floors of rooms (10 in all) on two floors above. Especially suited to Camino de Invierno walkers. Naranja cake in coffee shop not to be mised!
Cons: Accommodation is on busy town centre road, so rooms immediately adjacent to road are a little noisy until midnight when traffic dies down (Earplugs recommended for rooms adjecent to road). Rooms away from road probably quieter.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The location was very good, if a little hard to find. Accommodation was spotless.
Cons: The description on booking.com and our booking confirmation implied private terrace which is not the case. The restaurant is strictly meat only which may be an issue for non carnivores. The shower cubicle was very small and the shower not good. No air conditioning or fan in the room.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very good rooms. Pretty gardens and a very good swimming pool.
Cons: Disappointed that the restaurant was only open at weekends. Although didn't really enjoy the one meal I had there.
7.0 Good
Pros: Not much
Cons: You said it had a restaurant which it did but it’s not open every night? 2 miles from town so taxi cost £20. Owners were off hand really, just did not feel welcome. Clean to the point of being sterile, like visiting some aunties house where you dare not make any mess. First hotel I have not enjoyed in Spain in 5 years of touring. Breakfast was a rather thin affair.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room we had was lovely, spacious and very clean.
Cons: Perhaps a bit closer to restaurants as the restaurant is not open in the week during the winter months.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful peaceful and tranquil place. It is only 10 minutes or so outside of Monteforte. We had been camping previously so the touch of luxury was much appreciated. Out host didn't have great English but with out little Spanish we were able to make ourselves understood. My son and I really enjoyed our dip in the pool. The restaurant only opens on certain evenings in the low season but this made us explore Monteforte de Limos which is a beautiful town. We had a car full of equipment and everything was very safe.

Cañón do Sil and the Sant Estevo River are within 40 minutes’ drive of the Vicente Risco. Ourense is 47 km away, and Montfort de Lemos is a 35-minute drive from the property.

Pros: No English was spoken at all but we still managed to communicate. The lovely hostess helped me carry our bags up the stairs! The rooms are huge and very comfortable. Highly recommended.

Pros: Good location in the centre of town, parking for our motorcycles was not possible at the hotel but plenty of spaces are available within a few paces, rooms were large and spotlessly clean, welcome wasn't unfriendly but curt and efficient as is often the Spanish way, no English spoken by any of the staff we met but that's not usually much of a problem. The town itself is easily explored from the hotel and is in a fabulous setting overlooking the surrounding mountains - it is at quite high altitude so drops cold when the sun has gone down. Local bars are very cheap, mainly populated by locals rather than tourists for a more 'genuine' experience. I assume the town would be busier in the summer but was quiet when we were there (early October). Price was reasonable considering the location. We were only there for one night but it would be a good base for a 2 or 3 night stay and exploring the area. Overall a nice flavour of this part of rural Spain.
Cons: Breakfast was OK but very limited - tea/coffee, hard toast, a piece of cake, that was about it. Builders starting work across the road very loudly before it was even light wasn't great but its not going to be like that every day!
