The hotel was exceptionally quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent in terma of quality and selction. The dinner menu is too limited. There needs to be a greater variety of choices either by changing the menu for each day or in the selections offered.
Superb food and friendly staff. The hotel is modern and well decorated. The leisure centre closed rather early at 19.00 with check in only allowed from 16.00 and was disappointingly not open at all on Sunday. We got no use out of it and I would urge the hotel to keep this open at weekends when most use can be made of it and a little later into the evening, say 20.00. The hotel is also not near any restaurants so choice is limited. The excellent food made up for this but it makes sense to include breakfast in the rate as there is no choice but to eat at the hotel. We found the hotel expensive for what and where it was.
Sunday morning at the desk the main staff member at the desk made a nasty and not service friendly impression. At Saturday the staff was very good and friendly.
If one is very physically fit, bicycling and hiking is available for island exploration. Otherwise a car is necessary. If one is interested in a beauty spa environment the close relationship with the spa next door is valuable with the exception that it is closed on Sunday. If one is interested in being alone, the hotel was quite isolated and desolate in feel, very very quiet. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful when they could communicate in English. The food both in the hotel and attached spa was more than adequate in portion and was very delicious as well as presenting a varied and interesting cuisine. Cocktail hour was pleasant with interestingp, tasty hors'doevres. The hotel and restaurant were immaculately clean and nicely appointed. Transportation from the train to the hotel was not arranged for me by the hotel, although apparently was available and at 1/5 the price of the local taxi service. I arrived at 10:30 am but, although checkout was noon, my room was not ready until 4:00 pm. The various meal plans were not described and upon questioning, the staff could not explain the plans in English. Without a car I was fairly stranded at the hotel, not able to visit the remainder of the island nor La Rochelle. The hotel was much more isloated and desolate than I had expected. The low tide did not allow ocean swimming during the bulk of the daylight hours, but only revealed a very rocky, seaweed-slimy beachfront. The swimming pool at the spa next door was indoors, with very warm salt water, not the refreshment one desired during a hot day. The hotel shop was closed on Sunday, very inconvenient when so isolated from the rest of the island.
The hotel has recently been redecorated and first impressions the reception / lobby area looks really modern and clean I thought it was very overpriced for what you got. No mini bar in room, safe that was not attached to anything!, No iron. The private balcony was not private at all as people walked past quite often to get to the other hotel and there was no screens between the other balcony just small wall not even knee high
beautiful location, very good couisine, nice spa/swimming pool staff is not aware of many tourist information, no tourist prospects available, if any then only in French
Very good restaurant. Excellent design of the hotel, very comfortable rooms. No brochures and menu in English. The swimming pool is mostly fro children, no beach near the hotel - is necessary to go to a beacg by car.
The staff were very pleasant, the location is really great and the pool is nice We ordered breakfast but didn't avail of it, we were charges which is fine but it was very expensive for what was a pretty basic breakfast.
Friday afternoon in septemeber, no one else there
The ability to relax in tranquil surroundings away from the usual hub bub of working life plus the very friendly attitude of the staff.
Excellent hotel, very comfortable and restful. It was a long walk to the nearest restaurants, good distance to cycle.
situation tbhe hotel was very poor and not value for money. facilities and spa appalling, We as old age pensioners found having to pay 18 euros per day to give us access to basic kitchen facilities scandoulas
The staff were helpful and friendly. Having secure parking facilities a great benefit. A standard room with double bed was fine for me as a single occupant. However, for two people I imagine the room size might feel on the small side.
The room was modern and clean, the location was excellent. Where do we start, after staying in a Mecure before I know them to be a great hotel chain to use. However this was not my experience with this one. The rooms aircon was broken, not enough toilet paper and tea facilities were poor. Male resturant staff were rude, unhelpful and very snotty. We decided to eat in the hotel and the food was not value for money and quality was disappointing.
The fact that the hotel is very central to all amenities - enjoyed the breakfasts, although expensive (would book room only next time). Loved being by the harbour and the staff were very friendly. Will return again. Free parking excellent !! Breakfast too expensive.
Pleasant, comfortable. Good breakfast.
Good service, situation, close to everything, view No
geographical situation within the city was excellent
location was excellent within easy walk of town but quiet room was quite small and finishes were basic
The hotel has recently had a makeover and everything is very clean and new with nice colours and fabrics in the room. It is in a great location 5 min from town centre but quiet in the evenings. Parking is good. Staff very friendly. Nowhere to sit outside unfortunately.
Very comfortable. Pleasant helpful staff. Very convenient location for walking into Old Port and town. Away from the traffic so quiet
Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Clean and good location. It was a shame about the noise from the building works opposite. Also, the shower door seal leaked which could lead to long-term floor damage.
The on site parking, the rooms are very nice and it has a great location, I have stayed there many times. The very surly woman receptionist, afternoon 15/7, who met us on arrival. Beyond the obligatory 'bonjour' there was not one word of welcome or pleasantness a big black mark. I know it is the french way, no wonder the Irish are considered so friendly but it was a pain in the you know where never the less.
Needs a decent bar
Central location and very quiet.
Position of hotel was excellent. Staff pleasant but not very warm. No cable channels on TV. Breakfast far too expensive. Mini bar not working and contained just 4 small bottles of courvoisier
Fantastic location, friendly and efficient staff, lovely hotel Air conditioning was not effective enough
Situated by the Old Harbour and the Old Town of La Rochelle and at the same time a bit off side from it all.
Nice ambience - welcoming foyer - late night cup of tea - lovely courtyard for relaxed smoke - sitting area separate from foyer.
Great central location. An elegant old building but the rooms didn't have any of the disadvantages you sometimes get in old buildings.
Excellent location in easy walking distance of everything yet quiet at night, parking available at a small supplement at the hotel, spacious room. Our room overlooked the car park/small garden, and over the harbour beyond, but most rooms overlook the internal courtyward - not so nice. Although modernised, room a bit tired - but the good much outweighted the bad.
location and staff the room smelt fusty on arrival and for the first few days
peace and quiet when we arrived we were taken to a room instead of a 'superior cottage' which I booked. Only when I asked about the cottage did the receptionist mention that they had changed our booking. It would of been curtious of them to explain the situation before taking us to a room without saying anything. The room however, was very comfortable with terrace.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent Room. Restaurant was disappointing.
The welcome, accomodation, breakfast
Although the Hotel is 15mins walk from bus station it is quite central between bus station & train station to allow you to travel throughout the area. It is also not in the centre but close to it & the harbour area. It is quiet but within a short walk to the town centre/marina, restaurant area. I think it would be better if the breakfast was included in the price as 10euros is quite steep.
Very convenient for all areas of the town. Great to be able to park the car safely in their own car park and walk into town or the port area which were both only about 3 or 4 minutes walk away. The hotel was very comfortable, the facilities (shower products and hairdryer) were better than I had expected. N/A
Close to the harbour and restaurants The interior was much nicer than the exterior photograph suggests Nothing. We thoroughly enjoyed staying there
Friendly staff, good location and excellent buffet breakfast. The mattress on our bed was far too hard, not good for either a bad back or a good night's sleep.
The close proximity of the hotel to the centre of La Rochelle and it's attractions, restaurants and shopping. We did not need to use the car at all. Breakfast was also better than normal continental fare. The aluminium roller shutters were noisy in even the slightest wind and became very noisy unless rolled up, when the windows were open, which was needed because our room was a little air-less.
Clean, comfortable with friendly & efficient staff Nothing at all
Nice hotel in the old city. Very friendly people and godd parking facilty in the crowded center. Rooms to the streetside somewhat noisy due to the active nightlife. Leaving you two options: either go and party or ask for a room at the back of the hotel. We went for option two which was no problem.
Thought that everyone was very friendly. The breakfast was good value for the money. The location was great.
Convenience, parking, good breakfast
Location was brilliant-very central but peaceful at the same time. Overlooking the port, close to the train station, aquarium, local amenities. Car rental on your doorstep. Staff very helpful.
The location was super. Very close to the harbour and street entertainments at night. We enjoyed the poolside tables for reading etc. There was only one chair in the room - should be two. Breakfast poor value - no muesli, terrible machine coffee, the hot food was awful, marmalade always hidden away. In town, we bought a very good 3 course meal in the evening for less that we paid for the breakfast. Also, when we booked it was advertised as 13 euros, but we were charged 14 on departure.
The restaurant I didn't know abaut parking in this hotel
The location No
Yes, we liked this hotel. It's loceted very good.
The hotel was very good and the restaurant... would have liked some help with luggage on departure ny mother is 88 and I tweaked my bag lugging the suitcases around to the car.!
Spacious room and en suite. Nice comfortable bed. We were on the fifth floor behind the main hotel building, so it was quiet but we could still see the sea over the rooftops which was lovely. Swimming pool was nice and deep with amazingly comfortable seat shaped lilos. Perfectly located beside the harbour, very close to restaurants, the town and bus and train stations.
the location was too expensive for the rooms offered which were very basic.
Excellent location on the quayside. Polite & helpful staff. Sometimes noisy night club behind hotel.
near to City bed very comfortable and veryconducive to matrimonal activity! overpriced as facilities limited i would suggest they have their prices
Every aspect in hospitality was excellent.
Modern spacious room and public areas. helpful staff
Everything a modern and contemporary hotel should be. The staff were particulary kind and helpful when we had an emergency having to return home early. Somewhat impersonal in appearance in the public area. Somewhere to sit outside would have been good. A bit far to walk to the centre of town when eating out in the evening.
Very clean, new hotel with extremely friendly staff who all spoke fluent English
Location and friendly staff, coupled eith high standard of cleanliness
It was a modern clean hotel only five minutes walk from the port and one of my main reasons for choosing it was because it had parking facilities. I found the staff all very helpful and friendly and it was convenient to have free internet access in the lobby, which was always available. Manoeuvring in the underground car park was a bit of nightmare.
very well appointed and modern hotel. staff very welcoming and friendly. very comfortable bed. bathroom super. breakfast choices good.
What a brilliant hotel, it exceeded my expectations, rooms were clean, very modern, nice firm bed, excellent facitlies.
We had a very friendly welcome and fouynd the room to be extremely comfortable. We liked the tasteful modern decor. Nothing
the location, in the middle of the centre
A spacious appartment in a central location Poor quality breakfast
A beautiful building with lovely antique furniture, very close to old port and lots of restaurants, lovely ambience would stay here again
A basic hotel in a good location.
Clean, comfortable hotel. Efficient helpful staff. Good parking
excellent downtown location near all central services in la Rochelle, friendly helpful staff the kitchenette in the apratment was little more than a fride and a coffee maker, not suitable for cooking - space in the underground carpark was very restricted and quite difficult to get in and out on a daily basis
Great location, one block from the market, 5' walk from bus station and 10' walk to the harbour. Room with kitchenette, nice small garden with a small sw.pool. Nice staff. Nice room, but maybe a refesh of curtains and carpets could give it another star up.
Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly, buffet breakfast was wonderful and common areas of the property excellent
It was near the Airport and to the centre of La Rochelle. The staff were pleasent and helpful. There was little accomodation for people who had difficulty with French. We could not get any literature about tours etc in english although there was plenty in French.
Clean and room was very spacious! Good facilities in room. There was no car park space when we first arrived and we were informed that we needed to book before hand, but this is not available on the website.
Location was superb. Good aces to the airport about 20 min by bus. lovely hotel.
The location. I thought that this hotel was meant to be a 4* but it was definatly only a 2*.
The lounge area was great, very lovely and cozy with the fireplace and the candles. The staff was friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was accommodating; we stayed in our room until well into the afternoon one day and they didn't mind. (Although there was no "do not disturb" sign to hang on our door!) The free wi-fi worked well, although Neuf Wi-Fi (a pay service) was the first network the computer always connected to! The breakfast was lacking in options for the price it cost. It would have been nice to have a spare roll of toilet paper in the bathroom, as there were four of us sharing it. There is a lack of outlets (you have to unplug a lamp or the TV to plug in your laptop, for example), and the equipment and decoration in the room was aging. This is not a four-star hotel.
Upon eventual arrival there was a man playing a piano which created a romantic atmosphere. Views over roofs was enjoyable. The staff werent helpful. (see complaints) There was no 'kitchen area' as described on my reservation papers. I have never stayed at a hotel which has failed to provide room refreshments. Very dissapointing especially after our hot sweat trying to locate you in the first instance!
Great location. Walking distance to park and 2 restaurants / casino. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Continental breakfast / buffet was also good. Free parking. Price was very reasonable. Rooms are standard (small) Eutopean style rooms.
The upgrade to a saeview, pleasent view and calmness of the hotel
Nice location Overhigh prices-super expensive brekfest
very friendly staff breakfast good nice walk to restaurants balcony & sunloungers good
breakfast room / restaurant atmosphere was un relaxed.
The nice location and view over the sea The WIFI system was poor
Location, staff, price, Town of La Rochelle was a good "find". Room size a little cozy by NA standards
Nice hotel with bit of old fashioned character right by the sea. We were given a sea view room although only booked a standard room. Good breakfast. Underground car park. 15 minute walk to restaurants through local park. Convenient to main roads. Friendly French reception and they spoke English better than my French! TV at reception a little noisy.
We had a lovely room that overlooked the water. The patio was nice for reading under the umbrella
position, friendly staff ,
The fact that we could get a taxi to get out of there as soon as we arrived! Reception staff rude, family room was the smallest room we had ever stayed in, stuffy and hot, no airco, it stated that it's 10 minutes to town, yes, 10 minutes by taxi, not on foot. Cold and unwelcoming atmosphere. Nothing nearby, would never stay there again.
The view Separate toilet made for a restricted space, would have been better to incorporate it into the bathroom
Beautiful hotel, with attentive and friendly staff in a perfect situation on the harbour. We found it quiet and comfortable.
Staffs are very well trained and welcomed warmly. Breakfast is more than what we did expect, excellent. Size of room is too small and need the bath tub.
Picturesque setting and level of service.
the location, style and sheer luxury of the hotel including the excellent front of house service no
The service was good and charming. We enjoyed breakfast in our room. The location of the hotel was excellent. We feel we should have been told that the restaurant was closed on Sunday and Monday. We ate there on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was very good but somewhat overpriced. The bath in our room was too deep and difficult to get out of.
Beautiful hotel with lovely food and excellent service in a very attractive harbour town Aircon in our room ineffective
We spent three fabulous days with Hotel De Toiras. Hotel kindly upgraded us from Delux room to a nice Suite. The staff were very helpful. Breakfast was perfect.
This was my/our thrid visit to the Hotel De Toiras. It is arguably one of the nicest hotels in the World and I have stayed at many of the best. The rooms are extremely comfortable, very clean and extremely well maintained. Being very small the service has to be brilliant and it is. The staff are extremely friendly. The hotel and its magnificent restaurant are hideously expensive even in the off season when we go. But my partner and I will continue to visit there every year as it is the most wonderful place in the world to unwind. Let's hope the recession ends soon, so that I won't notice the price!
Lovely situation in an interesting area. Confusion re access to the hotel, not properly explained and being shouted at by the locals when trying to get access.
Cleaniness, comfort, friendless, breakfast Meals were expensive in comparasion to the harbour
The staff were very friendly & accommodating. The location of the hotel was perfect & the hotel was excellent. no
Very convenient to the city centre and attractions Swimming pool was too cold to be useful
The buffet breakfast was very good. The hotel was conveniently located and the car-parking was free.
Friendliness of staff and professional approach. immediate response to problem with safe There should be a basin in with the toilet enabling to wash hands without having to walk around to bathroom, this would prevent spread of germs and inconvenience
Novotel standards, swimming pool, comfy beds, cleanliness of hotel, friendliness, bath in the room, enclosed private car park Can't think of any
The hotel room was fresh and clean and the location was great. Was given a smoked in room initially which should have been non smoking. Bar helping staff staff were sometimes inexperienced considering the price. Breakfast could have been included.
The hotel is situated is situated in a quiet area beside a park and yet is within easy walking distance of the town centre and harbour.
Staff were friendly and attentive. Room was comfortable and well furnished. Location is excellent, close to the old town and harbour, nice and quiet in its parkland setting.
the room was comfortable, .very convenient hotel for overnight stays not to be reccommended for holiday hotel on arrival and departure served by far the surliest receptionist rest of staff in contrast very helpful food very poor best to eat out
esay to get to, clean and tidy good value breakfast none
Hotel was within walking distance of centre and the fact that it had free parking was a plus for us. Very basic but clean. Receptionist kept answering phone and just asked for name and money up front for stay. No interaction at all.
The close proximity to the centre of town, the marina and the Aquarium was wonderful, all within walking distance. Room was very clean and good value. Good for an overnight stopover. It was very impersonal, locked out until reception opened at 5pm and then, on check in, was issued with a code number which opened the front door. More like a boarding house as opossed to a hotel. Sensory lights in corridors a little creepy.
very basic but cheap and easy walk to la Rochelle and with bars cafes and restaurants within a few steps of hotel as close to university rooms clean and functional but a bit grim
Simple, central to La Rochelle
The lady at the hotel found out that a mistake was done with our booking and that no room for 5 people were available for us. She rapidly found a solution and we got a room for the night. No assurance that our booking is still ok when we arrive at the hotel.
the room was clean. there was spare bedding. very easy to check in. liked having the code in place of a key inconvenient that the reception is unavailalbe between 11-17h as would have liked to leave a bag there during the morning.
We stayed at Le Peu Breton for one night at the end of September 2010. The Hotel itself was charming, as was Naomi (apologies if I've spelt the name wrongly) who met us at reception and was very helpful about everything! I can't speak highly enough about this hotel. We had an unexpectedly excellent meal (recommended by Naomi) just 400 yards from the hotel. Excellent breakfast at the Hotel too! The Island itself is really a place for energetic people and especially families - lots of cycling and beautiful beaches. Unfortunately we didn't have time to explore the whole island, but as we drove through en route to our next destination we stopped for coffee in The Port de St Martin - a bussling, yacht-filled port, despite it being a Sunday No complaints whatsoever!
Location is the best we have ever tried. In the middle of everything.
Hotel in an excellant position - Ideal for the various boat trips, shops and a lovely harbour location together with all the street entertainment. Unfortunately there was an undesirable fishy smell in the lobby and lift areas which obviously eminates from the fish resteraunt next door.
Very helpful staff and excellent service. Good in-room facilities. Air conditioning a real bonus. Only limitation was a lack of a safe in reception large enough to take a laptop.
Wonderful location. Great food area. Horrific "free" internet service.
Very well placed, central hotel with plenty to see and do on the doorstep. Helpful staff, clean rooms (basic but comfortable), booked a triple room and got 2 interconnected doubles for same price which was good. Would book again for city break. Some rooms and shared areas looked dark and pokey.
the location was excellent..the room was quite .....a good hotel in a beautiful city, but not for a week room was basic...no wardrobe..compact if not small rooms
It was conveniently located near La Rochelle Center, and parking was available.
reasonably priced hotel for the area clean and modern but quite clinical. Two great restuarants opposite hotel Location relating to the town and beach. A good 20min walk from main center no good for anyone with walking dificulties
Quite room,Clean, modern. Would have been good to have a british channel on tv.
Clean room and lovely bathroom. Also a very quiet location. The hotel lacked atmosphere and a small bar area would have been nice.
Nice room, comfortable beds, parking-place and good value for money. A busy road outside the hotel
The hotel was excellent in every way. Would like more pricing options for breakfast. We normally breakfast on croissants and coffee. Euro 8 per head is expensive for this! We have our breakfast away from the hotel for Euro 4.50 total!
very nice rooms. extras: coffee, tea + biscuits in room. shampoo. -
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and the buffet breakfast had a good choice of food. The hotel is within 15 minutes walk from the old harbour and town so good for access
No frills, but it is a clean, modern hotel and the location is good. We would stay there again. Parking is a bit tight, but thats about it.
Everything was perfect: very helpfull and professional staff, beautiful design, good food. Not very central but ideal to get some rest and very close to the sea.
Very beautiful hotel, very clean, excellent friendly staff. Not really any bad points, but if anything a bar would be nice to be able to sit and have drink at the hotel.
This hotel only opened in July 2010 and is absolutely first class. The staff are very obliging and the restaurant is superb. The rooms are very modern in design and offer all the amenities you could ever need. Only 1 point. The GPS co-ordinates are inaccurate by up to 1km. They need amending or you will be driving around the area for ages !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indoor pool They charged 25euros for my well behaved pet bet they don't charge for small children that can do lots more damage!!!
The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. We were escorted to our room which rarely happens in hotels these days but is a very good idea as the room facilities were explained and instructions were given in how to use the air conditioning. This is not so much a complaint as a word of advice - finding the hotel is very difficult. We took the exit for Lagord presuming to find some signposts to the hotel. However, we found no signposts and having driven around in the dark for some time we came across the hotel by accident. Some signs around the area would be most helpful. On leaving we asked for directions to the airport and were told to follow the signs for Ile de Re - however we could not find any such signs and again drove around in the dark until we accidently found our way!
The entire were fantastic staff amazing the food to die for. Thankyou No
