9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lothar and Brigitte were great hosts, friendly and helpful. They gave us recommendations for restaurants, walks and activities in the area. They even gave us some chairs for the beach! The swimming pool, while on the small side, was a welcome feature and added to the peaceful and relaxing ambience of the place. The bedrooms were kept very clean, with flowers and shells scattered daily on the bed There was a nice terrace area just outside the room where we could sit and read. A good breakfast was served and served very promptly.
Cons: There was some traffic noise.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This place is pristine, the room with lovely furniture and attention to detail, a gorgeous warm pool and in walking distance from everywhere. The owner, Brigitte is kind, friendly and such a delight. She even has an honesty bar. A really lovely person. You cannot go wrong with this hotel.
Cons: I spoke to the owner and she is considering adding this feature soon: screen doors and a fan for those of us who do not like AC. Personally, I like to hear the sounds of nature and have a natural breeze. As long as there is enough airflow, there really isn'y any need fro AC at night in Costa Rica, at least not in the month of Jan and Feb.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host is extraordinarily kind and helpful and thoughtful. This was THE BEST HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE... stay here; you will be amazed!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, great location and great value.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love the attention to little details, like the decor. Owners were very helpful about the small community and recommended numerous restaurants in the area. The gardens and deck areas were relaxing and the location was close to the beach and the shops and walking everywhere was definitely easy. The breakfast was superb, many choices of fresh fruit, variety of bread, juices, cereals and eggs cooked to your liking. Will definitely return. It was a very relaxing get-a-way.
Cons: An extra towel rack in the bathroom would have been useful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful, charming and welcoming lodge in the peaceful beach town of Samara. There are only 8 rooms which creates a more intimate, homey and relaxed atmosphere. My room had a comfortable bed, A/C, fan, lockable drawer for valuables, washroom with hot shower and balcony overlooking the pool. The owners of the hotel were so kind and warm and truly cared about their guests. They paid attention to the small details and got to know their guests by asking how my day had been and how I was enjoying Samara. The outdoor pool at the centre of the hotel was beautiful and refreshing on the sweltering hot days. There were lounge chairs around the pool to relax and soak in the sunshine. I loved all of the gorgeous plants and trees and flowers surrounding the pool and around the property. The lodge was conveniently located a 7-10 minute walk from the beach and town centre or a 3-4 minute bicycle ride. The breakfast was incredible and featured a fantastic selection of foods. It was worth the extra charge. They were very accommodating for me being a vegetarian and gluten-free. The breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, cheese, cold cereal, tea or coffee, juice or smoothie, eggs and yogurt. It was delicious! The free Wi-Fi was fast and reliable.
Cons: There is nothing that I didn't like. I had a wonderful stay and thoroughly enjoyed my experience!
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was spectacular. Great staff, great breakfast, great pool, and nice room.
Cons: I thought everything was excellent. Only as a suggestion to add one more umbrella around the pool. Having said that the pool was quite nice with comfortable chairs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and value! Friendly staff that takes wonderful care of the property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing - Fresh fruit, eggs, bread, yogurt, meat and cheese and coffee. Very well worth the $12!

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was a 20 minute walk from the main town but very quiet and relaxing with hammocks and comfy seating inside and outside the property looking out to the beach. Great to chill out at sunset
Cons: The breakfast wasn’t the best - the omelette, toast & coffee were fine but the fruit smoothie was disappointingly flavourless
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The beach is really beautiful and the garden is perfect for relaxing. We also liked our hosts who were absolutely friendly and courteous. Cocktails were also pretty nice and tasty. We can definitely recommend it! :)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Hermann & Francisco are the nicest people! Making everything to make you feel welcome. The B&B is located around 2 km from the center which is about a 20 min walk along the beach. This pays off though. The view of the sunset from the hammock, the delicious breakfast and the warm welcome you get here. All worth it. It practically feels like you have the beach to yourself. Just a 20 min walk in the other direction is the Carrillo beach, beautiful small beach. Would recommend anyone to stay here!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect place, specially recommended for those who look to stay in places off the beaten path. Clean, calm & beautiful.
Cons: Nothing .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The direct access to the beach is just unique and amazing. The host is very welcoming and helpful. Great breackfast with a beautiful beach view. Thank you very much, it was perfect!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A little outside of Samara, Sunset Chill Out B&B was exactly what we were looking for - quiet, right on the beach, a beautiful sitting area outside, excellent service, a lovely 15-20 minute walk to the restaurants right in the centre of activity, and a perfect view of the sunset. Our second night there, we opted to have food brought in (facilitated by Herman - the owner) and eat in the garden. A highlight. The room itself was simple, and we were grateful that we lucked out with air conditioning -- it was exceptionally hot when we were there. (Request it when booking?)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff, the place just right by the beach and full of good vibes
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The two owners are the most gracious hosts you will ever meet. Very clean rooms with a welcoming bed and breakfast ambience. Breakfast every morning was amazing. Delicious omelette with a different smoothie offering was a great start to the day. Not to mention the coffee and the view. The property has lots of comfortable seating and shelter from the sun. The sunsets truly live up to their name. This was a writer’s paradise.
Cons: It was unusually hot while we were there. The fan didn’t quite extend to the twin bed along the wall, so had to move the bed to get closer to the fan. Cooled down really well once the sun went down and the room was comfortable with the fan. The shared shower is okay, not ideal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Francisco was a very sweet and accommodating host - his omelets and cocktails were awesome! We were the only guests so I can't speak to the shared bathroom - we had it all to ourselves. Our room was clean and we were glad to have the air conditioning as it was very humid and hot when we were there. Loved the big creaky floorboards throughout the house - felt like a big old farmhouse. The common area was welcoming and we loved breakfast outside facing the beach - you really couldn't get much closer.
Cons: The walk down the beach to Samara was very close but if the tide was in you couldn't cross the river and we had to drive instead.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and location are incredible. Truly an authentic costa rican beach experience. Hemann and Francisco are two incredibly hospitable hosts and great people!

Pros: Owners couldn't do more to help. Jam was lovely. Rooms really nicely presented.
Cons: Wifi upload speed is slow. If you need internet, this may not be your place..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Small and cozy family run/owned hotel. Well located yet super quiet and super peaceful. Elaine and her son make you feel so at home you don’t want to leave!! You get so pampered you risk turning into a spoiled brat!! You been warned!! Least not forget the breakfast!!! Superb!!!! I plan to return on winter/rainy season! Yay!
Cons: This couple of really small things SHOULD NOT prevent you from this awesome place!! -No toiletries (I was really dumb and didn't checked on that info. My mistake!!! Elaine was kind enough to offer a solution, also there's a supermarket within walking distance! Just plan ahead (or fully read) and you'll be ok!) -No credit card payment (I assumed booking.com will charge my card and that was it, yup my mistake!!! Again, Elaine was quick to offer some options, including Paypal!) As you can see, these issues are really insignificant and can be attributed to me been clueless!!! These are by no means a deal breaker, just a heads up!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation was of a very high standard. Both the hotel and the surroundings were very quiet. Eliane and Cedric were charming.
Cons: The hotel was further away from the beach than we were expecting. However hiring bicycles for $10 a day solved the problem.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful setting. delicious varied breakfast
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom was modern and had not water from both the shower and the sink (not so common!). Great little pool area where we had lovely breakfasts each morning.
Cons: We knew that the hotel wasn't close to the beach but it was actually further to walk than we had expected.

Cons: Nothing.

Overview Reviews
When you stay at Hotel Belvedere in Samara, you'll be near the beach, a 1-minute drive from Samara Beach and 5 minutes from Carrillo Beach. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We had a great one-evening stay at Hotel Belvedere. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the AC provided a nice relief from the sweltering humidity outside. The owner also seemed very kind and professional, and the space around the pool/gardens was beautiful.
Cons: A small criticism is that there were quite a few insects in our room -- mostly ants, but one cockroach (which I think came in through the AC vent). I don't want to complain too much -- it is Costa Rica after all, and a few bugs are to be expected -- but I thought I'd mention it.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is one of the best of our trip to Costa Rica. The facilities are amazing : Huge and clean pool, parking, chairs to relax, lounge... The room is really nice and the location is perfect : 5 minute walk to the center of Samara ! There is also a supermarket down the street. Our laundry was done the same day, We even saw monkey family of monkeys passing in front of us at the pool :)
Cons: The staff is very discrete which can be a quality...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What should we say? This was definitely the best hotel of our whole three week trip around Costa Rica. Comfortable bed, large cleanest room, nice people. The breakfast is buffet style and offers not only Costa Rican but also international breakfast, the breakfast room is great overlooking the garden. There is a honesty bar fridge in the common room next to the pool with drinks and small snacks. Very helpful in solving an issue with a car repair of our rental car.
Cons: Only the chairs in the breakfast room could be a bit more comfortable.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We checked in late and there was someone was there waiting for us, the office was closed. They offered convenient parking for us in front of the property. We had a short one night stay but we were allowed to use the pool and bathroom to shower after our checkout time. Beach was a easy 5 min walk across cross the street and close to everything. The overall feel of the place was laid back not fancy more casual and nice views of nature with hammocks to relax throughout the property. We enjoyed our stay.
Cons: Some outside noises can be heard inside your room. Not a big deal as we had or door open a lot but there was a bug crawling on the wall one night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a wonderful little oasis. It's far enough from the main road that it's quiet but it's close enough to walk to the beach. We loved it!
9.5 Excellent
Cons: The bed wasn’t the best, but for the price it wasn’t that serious
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything in the right place, attention to details. Gorgeous gardens and pools.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The pool, the breakfast, the proximity to the town and beach.
7.5 Good
Pros: It was within walking distance to restaurants. Quite a big bedroom.
Cons: It was hugely out dated and everything just felt a bit old. We tried not to spend too much time there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfort and greatly arranged location of the pool and the rooms in the middle of nature. Pura Vida !
Cons: Nothing!

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The place is quiet and very clean. Everything it's new.
Cons: The way to get there it's far away from the city
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is how Costa Rica should always be. The place is is up the mountains in the middle of the jungle. You need a good 4x4 to reach it and even cross a river. You then get rewarded with great hospitality, amazing views and a wake up call by the loudest inhabitants of the jungle - howler monkeys.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was a remote paradise with postcard views in every direction. The bungalows are very modern and well constructed and each one has an amazing view. The meals available were amazing, do not miss the candlelight dinner option. The hosts are very friendly and helpful in planning activities in the nearby areas. We ended up extending our stay as this was one of our favorite experiences in all of central America.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The villa was comfortable and had a lovely view of the surrounding trees and wildlife. We loved watching the monkeys in the trees while having breakfast or taking a swim! The big water dispenser in the room was a very nice and thoughtful amenity. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Thank you for helping us with all our questions and booking tours!
Cons: The shower pressure and temperature was difficult to control.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. One of the most peaceful places I have ever stayed in. It is almost scary at night, when you realise that it is you, the room, and the forest. Nothing else. The room is so carefully done and finished, it is incredible the care with the place.
Cons: Nada

Cons: Just one think would be more helpful...a small bottles of shampoo and body lotion in the bathroom would be great to have!

Pros: I loved the friendly staff and the beautiful surroundings. The bungalows were private, quiet and comfortable. The hotel was clean and the breakfasts were perfect: we especially enjoyed the great coffee and the beans and rice. Our girls loved the kitten and the cool birds on the property. The howler monkeys in the trees were a great treat to watch.
Cons: I wouldn't change a thing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved this place! It's a little piece of paradise with the pool under the mango trees. A coatis came to join us everyday at breakfast, which was delicious and fresh everyday. Cindy was super welcoming and could tell us all the best spots of Samara and its surroundings. The apartment was super clean and lovely with the airconditioning. We really enjoyed our stay and we highly recommend it for staying in Samara!!
Cons: -
9.5 Excellent
Pros: What an oasis! Although a 15 minute walk from the beach and town, it was worth it. So restful, beautfully landscape. Wonderful service, lovely pool, great breakfasts, loved reading in my hammmock on our porch in the mornin. And the kitchenette with fresh water is so convenient
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect sanctuary just outside the hustle of the strip of shops. 15 minute walk to town made us thankful we had a car in the dusty heat. The environment is super chill, the grounds are beautifully kept, and the rooms are very clean with everything you need. The staff is amazing - welcoming, kind to our small child and very helpful with great suggestions on activities. Breakfast by the pool has everything you need including strong coffee and monkeys in the trees. Every day we commented on how happy we were with our choice to stay here. Pro tip: upgrade rooms. The cost is minimal and the space is worth it.
6.3 Good
Pros: Comfortable. Quiet.
Cons: Maintenance not up to date. Beach in front of the hotel ain’t good.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is beautiful. No need for a nature walk, as we were surrounded by it! We loved waking up to the birds, and especially the daily visits from the howler monkeys! Staff were always so friendly and Cindry was very helpful answering any of our questions. We didn't want to leave!

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice location on the top of the hill with great view and tranquility. Nice and kind staff and owner.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location - out of town so quieter but within a short drive or taxi ride and there are great views to the ocean. Rooms were very comfortable and the pool fresh and pretty. Until the bar is finished there is beer, juice, wine and snacks available from reception and take-away restaurants will deliver. The property is in the forest so plenty of opportunity to connect with the local wildlife including iguanas, coati and howler monkeys. The owner and staff couldn't have been more helpful. A real little oasis.
Cons: Only downside was no full bar or restaurant for lunch and dinner. However a bar is under construction and the owner is intending to provide a full restaurant soon
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The grounds were beautiful, our room was nice and clean with a really nice balcony. The staff was friendly, especially Deanna.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Facilities prestine. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was great. Good shower.
Cons: WiFi in room off and on but really like this place.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was outstanding. The pool was clean, cool and welcoming. I really enjoyed the nature so close by. Howler monkeys just outside by bedroom.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place. Lovely pool and gardens with beautiful views over two coast lines. Brian and Dianna on the front desk were amazing. Very friendly and knowledgeable and just a joy to talk to. The hotel is up a steep driveway so you do need to drive into town, but it's such a short drive and we never had any trouble parking. Beautiful beach with lots of great restaurants. Really enjoyed our stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean rooms, comfortable beds, lush gardens, fantastic breakfast. A quiet relaxing environment a short distance to the beach. The staff is wonderful, especially Brian at the front desk.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We spent only two evenings at Colina Del Mar, but could have easily spent an entire week. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. Returning to the property for a dip in the pool after a long day at the beach was a treat. Bryan, the concierge, is charming and his energy infectious. His restaurant and activity recommendations were excellent. The location is just out of town, which is exactly what we were looking for. We enjoyed chatting with Shelly, the owner. It seems she is constantly making improvements to the property and truly wants her guests to feel comfortable, safe and welcome.
Cons: The driveway to the property is what my daughter would call "sketch". It's steep, narrow and provides limited visibility. I found myself white-knuckled and holding my breath as our vehicle climbed the drive and turned the corner onto the property. The driveway would definitely not deter me from revisiting the property, but I would like to have known of this detail beforehand.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hillside location with views out to sea yet only a short drive from Samara beach. Brian the manager was a brilliant and charming host and happy to do everything he could to make us welcome. We also saw the howler monkeys close up.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brian and Diana were extraordinary serviceminded. Nice decor in room. Access to cold drinkingwater. Comfy bed. Nice view from balcony. Parking close to room. Good breakfast. A very quiet spot, which we like. Nice pool.
Cons: NA....maybe a Bar next to reception.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location of the Villas. Susan was a pleasant hostess. The property is great - some open space, loved seeing the cows and horses in the pasture behind, space to park our car. Cute rancho and a wonderful breakfast. Nice little pool to cool off in. Bed was very comfortable and the A/C worked well. Liked the little table and chair set outside on the patio in front of each room. Peaceful and quiet but still only a short distance to town and the beach.
Cons: Rooms are very tiny but you don't spend much time there anyway. Suitcases have to go in the bathroom and on the shelves in there. There was no soap or shampoo provided so we had to go out and buy some.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The property itself was beautiful. It backs onto a farm and there are howler monkeys across the street. Breakfast was homemade by the owner and was different every morning, I loved the variety. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk to the beach and into town but a short drive if you have a vehicle. It was farther from town than I initially thought but this was not an issue for us as we had a vehicle. The owner, Sue made the trip! She was extremely helpful with booking tours and giving suggestions for dinner and activities and was lovely to chat with. She even organized getting a birthday cake for my boyfriend from a local bakery because I wanted to surprise him. The room is small which may be an issue for some but we were barely in the room, and the breakfast area is a nice place to hang out at any time of the day. Plus the air conditioning works very fast in a smaller sized room. The bathroom was large with lots of shelving for your suitcases.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The garden and the surrounding were lovely.
Cons: The breakfast was poor, and the portion per person was not enough. The room was very small, we could not walk around the bed and there was no space for our suitcases. There was no wardrobe, only some selves in the bathroom! The hostess was sarcastic and abrupt, not so friendly. She seemed to be pretending and wearing a nice smile, but unfortunately, this was fake.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Susan prepares a wonderful breakfast with local fruits and other ingredients. The little pool is perfect to chill off in the Costa Rican heat. Susan is a welcoming host and booked a tour for us. We were interested to see the turtles lay theirs eggs and Susan found the perfect tours for us.
Cons: Taking the suitcase on the gravel path is a handful and is made difficult by the fact that we could not roll it to the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Was a great stay - Susan was lovely and so helpful with advice on the area
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room is cute, the bed comfortable, the garden is lovely and breakfast real good. Susan is easy going and always willing to help, she even lent us an umbrella (needed) and beach chairs. Also, the place is in a quiet location but within walking distance from the village (15 mn max)
Cons: Problem with hot water. Susan tried to have it fixed, but to no avail. That was manageable anyway, since it was very hot in Samara.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Susan was great and the service was excellent! She was so helpful and full of knowledge about the surrounding area. The rooms were super nice and clean and she did a wonderful job with breakfast! The views were lovely and so peaceful. If you're looking for a nice quiet place to stay that is not directly in town with amazing service this is the place to book! We loved staying at Villa Tangerine and hope to go back someday.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Susan is what I liked. She took care of everything. Booked tours, cabs, and anything else I needed. She is the best host and consierge. Didn't have to think at all. The best breakfast in Samara. Absolutely loved my stay.
7.0 Good
Pros: Great location, beautiful and clean property, close to the town and gorgeous beaches
Cons: I do not recommend staying here. To say our experience with the owner was unpleasant is an understatement. She was the only negative aspect of our one-night stay, but a continuous one. NO PURA VIDA VIBE. After driving the costal, dirt road from Playa del Coco to Sámara all day, we arrived exhausted to the property sometime around 5pm. Upon our arrival, this woman came up to us and said, "YOU MUST BE THE GIRL WHO DOESN'T LIKE TO REPLY TO EMAILS." Not even hello. What a warm, professional welcome! I've never been required to have an email correspondence about my stay (guaranteed by credit card). She proceeded to GUILT-TRIP me about her just having missed her 4-minute ride into town and "joked" that now I needed to give her a ride. How funny. Maybe a receptionist would be beneficial. Then came the breakfast ordeal the next morning. She was very snappy to my friend about where to drink her coffee and about my friend trying to wash her cup (like you normally do at hostels). Then when I came to check out the breakfast situation, she snapped that it was not a buffet and she would make breakfast upon request. Ok, no problem...but then she asked if my friend would be joining and when I said no, she became visibly irritated and AGAIN GUILT-TRIPPED ME by saying SHE HAD ALREADY PREMIXED THE PANCAKE MIX, COULDN'T SAVE THAT 50 CENTS OF MIX, AND WOULD HAVE TO EAT IT HERSELF AND START HER DIET THE NEXT DAY, all while shaking her head. These were the actual words that came out of this woman's mouth. I've never been required to make a breakfast commitment. At this point, we just wanted to leave. We were simply bringing our bags to the car and hadn't even turned in the room key or finished putting our bags inside when she approached us about payment. Then, like the flip of a switch, she decided to be nice and gave us some suggestions on things to do. It. Was. Bizarre. From start to finish.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely B&B. The owner is terrific and it feels like visiting a friend - great tips on places to go in the area. Different, tasty breakfast every day. The rooms are very nice and the property is lovely with gardens, a pool, and a shaded area where breakfast is served that can be used to sit in during the heat of the day.
Cons: The roads in the immediate area are dusty during the dry season (duh!), but better (IMO) to be a bit away from town for peace and quiet.

Pros: An amazing hotel set in beautiful grounds. Wonderful staff. A very relaxed, homely feel. Excellent breakfast and home cooked meal every evening. Paradise.
6.3 Good
Pros: A well maintained garden, nice pool, quiet place, very friendly staff.
Cons: Bit too far away from Samara. When the river is too high (main road goes through the river) it will take you even longer. The room we booked for 2 nights was not cleaned but was resolved best possible by moving us to another vacant room (twice).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We were 1 day to late and the hotel just moved up our reservation of 2 night. Even got an upgrade family room. We have added 1 night because all is so perfect.
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Owner and staff team are helpful, very welcomming and trying to help you with every single metter you have (including usage of hotel PC and fixing the car front plate we almost lost in the river). Amazing people and really breathtaking nature!
Cons: This place is really lost in paradise-we had to cross the river by car (no bridge), but it was fine challenge due to the help of locals.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The garden is really wonderful and the kids loved playing in the pool after a day at the beach. Unfortunately we had no water the day we arrived but the owner was fully on top of this to get it fixed. She kept us well informed and provided free bottled drinking water as well as access to another accommodation for shower. All in all we didn't have much trouble with it and it surely adds to the experience of Costa Rica :-)
Cons: The pool cocktail bar was very nice yet could have stayed open longer (closed at 19:00). It wasn't the best breakfast we had in Costa Rica, though service was nice.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A very unique hotel. It consists of cottages and walking paths on a large plot of well landscaped land, with a nice pool. The breakfast was very good. It was nice to sit by the pool and relax with greenery and gardens around. The owners are French, and bought the hotel in 2017. They are friendly, nice to talk to, and have done and excellent job.
Cons: The off-road drive to the hotel was a bit long. There are two separate roads from the hotel to the town of Samara. The shorter road was not available. It runs over a creek bed, which is dry during the dry season. But any rain and the creek is not passable. So we had to go the long way around, which is a dirt road with a bridge over the creek. Rather than 2 miles to town, it was more like 5 miles. We had an SUV so it was not too bad. But if you have a small car, that 5 mile dirt road can be a bit long.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a great time in the "Flying Crocodile". Very friendly owner and great staff. Very impressing is the beautiful garden and pool area. Nothing seen in Costa Rica something similar to that. Thanks for the great 4 nights.
Cons: Everything was perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful setting! Unique variety of accommodations in separate cabins and "houses". Absolutely amazing trees, the canopy soared above us. Lovely pool with small bar for relaxing at the end of the day. The first (early) morning we were awakened by the amazing sounds of the howler monkeys. Quite an experience. We were also upgraded to an apartment with kitchen, 2 bedrooms and large living room from a more standard room--I believe because we missed our first night's reservation because of a cancelled flight.
Cons: The website I think says 10 minute walk to beach but rather it's a 5 minute car ride. It's certainly not an easy walk to the beach as I had hoped. Better pillows would be great.
6.8 Good
Pros: Staff was very friendly. Felt like family.
Cons: Scorpion in the bath towels
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful quaint lodging. Each unit is in a separate unique building. Beautiful location, extremely relaxing, gorgeous pool and grounds. To top it off daily breakfast is included and owner couldn’t be any nicer or willing to help in any way needed. Very highly recommend this hotel.

Pros: Diego made our stay fabulous and was always willing to give tips or draw a map for us :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful area! The staff and owner at Villas Kalimba were so polite and helpful!! Diego helped us book zip lining with Wing-nuts Ziplining Co (a must for a local zip lining experience!!) and a rental car for our way out. The pool is perfect for an after the beach dip and right out the door. Roberto the owner is a great chef and prepared a delicious dinner more than one night in our 4 day stay. The cleaning staff is fabulous, courteous and most of all the rooms are very clean! Thank you Roberto, Diego and the entire staff for a lovely stay!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our family of 4 stayed at Villas Kalimba for 5 days in February. We loved everything about our stay. Our villa had everything we needed, was cozy, comfortable and private. It is literally a 20 second walk to the beach. It is true what the reviews say about Roberto - he made our stay. He treats his guests like family and is an AMAZING cook - If you see the sign up “Roberto is cooking” you do it! :) We would definitely return and recommend to anyone who is visiting Sámara. - Karen, Cam, Hadley & Casey
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Feels secluded but is at the center of everything. Loved the villas overall. Staff was friendly, amazing and helpful. It was relaxing to hear the waves crash, especially at night and the beach is beautiful!
Cons: A little too much street noise during the day but all quiet by night. We still loved it!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was wonderful! Very helpful; even let us leave our suitcases there for the day on our check out day and also let us use their beach towels that day! The room was nicely decorated with a nice shower. The front porch was so great, comfortable furniture and beautiful plants. It made us forget we were in the middle of town
Cons: The dishes weren't all clean ( I would blame that on the last occupant but maybe the hotel staff could check that). Really nothing to complain about though, this was a great villa with wonderful staff

Pros: The rooms are spacious and clean. The room was very comfortable. The bathroom was large. The staff was very helpful. The hotel is located within walking distance to two beaches. The restaurant food was good and reasonably. There are many things to do in the area. We woke up to the sound of monkeys. We really enjoyed our stay! They have great guacamole!!! Maria was awesome!!!!
Cons: It was fine.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The room was very clean and tidy. It was nice and large and comfortable.
Cons: The pool was small. Waiting over an hour for breakfast was inexcusable
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were lucky enough to meet the owner Doug. He gave us some great information about the Samara area and Costa Rica overall. The red snapper for dinner was unbelievably fantastic! We hit the rainy season full force but it did not dampen our stay one bit. We loved the location, beautiful quiet setting yet close enough to town.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Everything
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel with BIG rooms and very confortable beds. The breakfast burritos were delicious and the pool was in a beautiful setting and very refreshing. We felt very comfortable in the rooms and in the hotel.
Cons: They charge an additional 30 USD + tax per night for extra guest regardless of age. This is the first time we had to pay extra for our 1 year old son to stay in the room with us, so I guess the property is not very family friendly. Also the beach near the property was beautiful but very isolated and no shade. We end up driving everyday to Samara beach.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good and there were many iguanas and monkeys hanging around. Quick walk to the beach
Cons: need better lighting in the bathroom

Pros: First class hotel with fantastic friendly staff. In low season, best deal in the area.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts were wonderful with multiple choices. Great fruit and tea too! The jungle setting was an unexpected very nice surprise and very enjoyable.
Cons: I don't know how you could get rid of the bugs in a jungle setting but that would have made the stay better.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: There wasn't anything we didn't like. The hammocks were delightful hanging from the porch and again, the grounds were lovely. We would definitely revisit this hotel and Samara. I would have to say, our hotel was our favorite part of Samara. The town was very busy because it was Easter break so we actually didn't spend that much time on the beach. We spent more time at our lovely Cabana and enjoyed every moment.
Cons: There really wasn't anything that I didn't like... The place is absolutely gorgeous and we were happy to spend time on the grounds looking at the monkeys and enjoying the beautiful pool area. Our cabana was absolutely darling! The entire place is very very peaceful.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very private, clean and a great staff and owner. Highly recommend
Cons: Little far from town but very peaceful and clean. Staff was great
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I loved how quiet and quaint this resort is. I really enjoyed being able to leave town and sleep in a quiet area. We were able to spend the hottest part of the day relaxing by the pool until we cooled off, then we walked to the beach in the late afternoon. The property was very green, lush, and shady for the dry season. Our cabana was always cool in temperature, even though outside it was 95+.
Cons: There were things out of the resorts control that we didn't like - mainly related to the other guests. Although, they were very quiet at night which was nice. We were unable to use the oven and stove at the same time because it kept tripping the breaker, but we were able to work around it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our bungalow was cleaned from top to bottom every day. The location is quiet and suitable for seeing coatimundis and iguanas, birds and howler monkeys every day.
Cons: Didn't realize Samara beach itself was a little farther than we wanted to walk every day but bicycle rental turned it into an easy ten minute commute. Totally worth it.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great place! The family villa we were in was nice and secluded and having our own pool was lovely. Nice to have air con in the bedrooms and fans were effective in the rest. The kitchen had just about enough in it to cook main meals. Gardener and cleaner were daily and both worked very hard. Has its own covered parking space right near the villa. Need a car to get it into town.
Cons: The villa could do with a little TLC (kitchen doors, wardrobe doors and shower head were a bit broken but not a big deal. The dogs from the surrounding properties make quite a racket!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful private bungalow with kitchen and an open air shower. Hammock outside was the perfect place to nature watch. The grounds are private, and wildlife is abundant. Lizards, coati, monkeys all visited during our stay. Awesome little hike to a private beach off the backside of the property and a nice deep pool to relax at in the evening. This was our favorite place we stayed at by far and hope to return sometime.
Cons: Ran into a couple bugs that had made it inside which I was not thrilled with. But... its Costa Rica, it’s bound to happen!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is amazing including people work there, they are very friendly with a lots of knowledges.
Cons: Nothing, everything was perfect!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was okay, the staff was really nice and super helpful and the hotel had a unique look
Cons: There were dead ants on the shelf and fridge below the shelf. Even after the room was cleaned the dead ants were still there.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The surrounding is absolutely gorgeous, peaceful and we really loved swimming in the pool while watching the monkeys in the trees. Breakfasts were excellent ! The French family who runs this place is simply charming and very friendly.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Owners were wonderful people and sincerely cared about our trip and enjoyment of Samara. The location is excellent near new supermarket across the street, restaurants and quick walk to the beach. Very clean and quiet around pool area and safe. Our teenagers loved the location and the hotel area.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great garden and swimmingpool. Everything is very clean!
Cons: Location is a bit from the beach and restaurants
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Attentive, most pleasant staff. Beautiful, warm ambiance! I loved my own private hammock! 5 minute walk to the beach and yet a one minute walk to a full service grocery store. Bakery around the corner!
5.5 Okay
Pros: the lay out from outside - Porch area and eating area out front of unit
Cons: Needs updating - first night kinks of loud AC. Both room AC dripping water on TV stand. Put Towels down to absorb water No place to sit inside. Outside great for eating and sitting, but if raining or bugs - no sitting area inside Faucet in sink was loose, AC issues first night - but fixed next day. Blanket is really another sheet - very thin. Got extras for 2nd night. Im only 5' 4" and shower at my chest - so water aimed at belly button or lower - So, use one hand to hold above head during shower - one hand to wash My Wife got yelled at by owner, since i washed off rental town bikes and brought to front porch. Owners live there, so understandingly very protective of property - did not see bike stand hidden behind bushes. My wife was scared the rest of the day, but I told her - 'he just went Angry Italian on you and we would be fine. And true - we all went back to being nice. Owners cook and will want to meet and talk with you. So, if you like that - great place. He is the " most interesting man in the world"
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming and friendly owners. Very relaxing tranquil grounds with lovely pool. Very spacious and lovely private verandah in front of villa.
Cons: The rooms are basic but spacious and comfortable.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Villas Verdes was a lovely oasis on one of the main streets of Samara Beach. Our hosts were wonderful and helpful and we enjoyed having breakfast at the hotel.
Cons: Wish it was a bit quieter. Lots of motorcycles and trucks rumbled by all times of the day and night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Villas Verdes was a lovely place to stay! The owners also own a cafe / Italian restaurant next door. We walked over for fresh espresso in the mornings, which was greatly appreciated. The owners of this property take pride in their business. The property is beautifully maintained. The pool is fantastic! The staff is helpful and kind. We loved staying here and would absolutely recommend it.
6.3 Good
Pros: My favorite part of this hotel was the morning breakfast with the host/owner of the hotel. He was very kind and a great host, he cooked us breakfast and was kind and welcoming.
Cons: I did not like the town so much, it is a nice beach town although having been in Nosara prior to going to Samara made it a deception for me in a way. If you want to surf, this is really a place for beginners. If you love to be a beach bum, this is a nice place.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This clean and beautiful resort is located on a short walk out of the center of Sámara. The resort had a number of apartments. We stayed in an apartment on the first floor. It was very spacious, with a huge terrace/balcony, a well equipped kitchen (there was even a blender!), a big bathroom (walk-in shower) and a toilet, an extra toilet and 2 good bedrooms. The apartment was cleaned every day. The resort had a beautiful garden with tropical flowers, and now and than the howler monkeys can be heared and seen around the resort. There is a nice pool for all the guests. During our stay our kids swam together with some friends. The pool was never full. Just outside the resort, the owner of the place has an Italian restaurant. We didn't have dinner there, but it should be a good place to eat, according to story's of other guests. Next to the restaurant there's a small bakery, owned by a very friendly Canadian lady. She prepares the best cinnamon roles you'll ever have had! A big supermarket is on a 2 minutes walk from the resort. Bars and other restaurants van be found everywhere around the resort. We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Villas Verdes!

You are a 15 minute walk to Samara beach and a 15 minute walk to Buena Vista Beach. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I rented a bike for the week which cost 30 dollars.
7.0 Good
Pros: Food was great. Wonderful dinner. Very friendly staff. Great beach recommendations.
Cons: no tv but that is ok because most places with tv have few english channels. Some gnats in bath sink from bath window screen but not a problem.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This was our third time staying at Samara Pacific Lodge and there is a reason we keep going back. As far as value for money there is no place better. The pool is amazing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast is plentiful and delicious and their dinner menu is pretty affordable. The kids menu is a bargain and their coconut crusted chicken nuggets are the best. Ronald is awesome and the owner Clemencia is wonderful. We absolutely love the location, close enough to walk to town but far enough away for some peace and quiet. We look forward to going back.
Cons: There really isn't anything not to love. This place is the best. While you won't get any wifi internet in the rooms, wifi is available poolside and right outside the rooms.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very helpful and friendly. Probably the best I have encountered. I liked the peaceful hotel location next to a farm, but it is a bit removed from downtown Sámara.
Cons: The laundry service was too expensive and the clothes had a strange smell afterwards.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the area. Not too far from the beach.Close to nature. The pool and facilities were great Lovely comfortable sunbed. Not too busy also lovely and relaxing.Loved the Restaurant and the breakfast was the best we've had in Costa Rica.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very attentive and friendly. We had dinner there one night and it was excellent.
Cons: There is a roaster in the farm next door to the hotel. Someone needs to put it in a pot.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The facilities at the Lodge were well thought out with various seating areas for relaxing, yet close to the salt water pool and rooms. Lots of families, some singles, couples and all ages. Comfortable areas for breakfast and dinner or drinks. Staff were very accomodating to all requests and inquiries. Secure parking (car recommended). Lovely resident cat.
Cons: Our adult daughter had a very creaky twin bed in our room which was rather disturbing during the night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good value for the money. Clean room, nice salt water pool area.
7.5 Good
Pros: Several options for breakfast. Good location and parking area. Easy access.
Cons: Couldn't roll my bag to the car... maybe a paved 15' path to roll them?
6.8 Good
Pros: The pool was beautiful, and the breakfast in the pretty little restaurant was very good.
Cons: The air conditioning in one of our rooms was non operational and that was a bit uncomfortable. The staff tried to fix it, but it did not work.

Pros: Awesome staff, we turned up after getting mugged of our belongings at a beach a few hours away and the receptionist was very sympathetic and super helpful. The quadruple room was very clean and comfortable, the staff take the quality and cleanliness of the rooms very seriously. Rooms have a nice homely feel to them and are spacious. Location is perfect.
Cons: No hot water shower but that was our mistake for not checking the information when we booked. WiFi was bad - we forgot to mention this to them
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very kind and helpful! My mom even hurt her ankle while we were walking around town and one of the staff members happens to be a physiotherapist masseuse also; she got my mom ice and massaged her ankle out of the kindness of her heart to help. Talk about going the extra mile. Thank you so much!!!
Cons: Nada, todo fue bueno!
6.8 Good
Pros: The front entrance is always locked so felt secure.
Cons: The dorm room decor was very outdated and needs updating. It's a bit small when eight people are in there. Staff riding motorbike inside hostel at 10pm was noisy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hostel was great - couple of minutes from a supermarket and a bank as well as less it was less than 10 mins walk from the beach. Superb bakery in 5 mins walk - good for breakfast. Also the room was cleaned every day and you would get a fresh towel on a daily basis too. Annie & Mishelle both were very helpful giving out directions where to find supermarket etc.
Cons: I prefer hot water in the shower though you get used to it. Also good to note - they only take cash at the hostel, not cards at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Located centrally near supermarkets and restaurants. A lovely beach is about 150mtrs away. The hostel was clean and very safe. Access was through a locked gate operated 24/7 by reception. There is a shared kitchen with all the usual facilities is regularly kept clean by the hosts. The communal dining area is great for meeting other travellers. Annie, Theresa, Michelle and the cleaning lady were excellent hosts and soon became friends, and went far out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful holiday.
6.3 Good
Pros: Way to expensive for the type of facility.
Cons: Room quality, wifi quality, no TV. Uncomfortable bed, had to sit sideways to use the toilet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Annie, Michelle and team were amazing hosts - so friendly and welcoming, we felt totally at home! Annie went out of her way to show us the very best of Samara- we loved all the beaches
Cons: Nothing! For us, the water from the shower was a perfect temperature given how hot it was outside. Some might like it slightly hotter though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice little spot to stay. This is a true tico style feeling guesthouse- while also serving an international crowd. Very safe and great location in center of town, 1.5 blocks from beach. Easy going family vibe. The folks helping out are a younger local crew who are travelers and artists and other and they are all very kind hearted people with good souls. They have a few travelers (amazing, kind, and friendly) who were staying for a couple of weeks, as they really felt the family feel of the hostel and the mellow vibe of Samara in general. The front desk crew rocks. A really nice atmosphere overall. Also a place to do laundry and they really encourage you to feel at home. Nice big lockers where you can put your whole bag in and each bed has individual reading lamp. Rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen kept very clean. Thanks for the stay!
Cons: The rooms are a little darker and tight, but they are for sleeping- not really where one would want to hang out anyway right? There isn't a great outdoor lounging area, but there is an indoor couch area and an upstairs seating area off the kitchen that you have full use of.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Samara is great place and we liked to stay at the hostel - nice&clean room, terrace and kitchen. Bikes to rent - you can visit Carrillo beach. Good tips from the staff. Also the restaurant downstairs is good. Thank you for your approach to travellers...
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very well located, and staff awesome!!
Cons: The room was dark

Pros: Prior to arriving at the hotel, we had the misfortune of having our vehicle robbed. Upon arriving at the hotel the staff went above and beyond to help us contact the police and assisted wherever they could. This hotel was by far the best we’ve had while in Costa Rica. It is VERY clean, the beds were fantastic and the pool was delightful. We then stayed at the hotel that night for dinner and it was ITALIAN excellent. The owner himself was there and was very attentive to our every need. Thanks from these Canadians who are SO grateful for all your help.

Pros: The man is Reception was very helpful and welcoming. The entire place was spotless inc. the breakfast area, pool area, and the room. The room was spacious and extremely clean and modern with huge tinted windows that looked out onto the pool area and flowering shrubs. The place was very quiet. The breakfast which was simple had a great fruit plate and all the Costa Rican coffee you wanted. Two restaurants that I would highly recommend are Luv Burger, right on the beach and Ahora Si more in the center.
Cons: A kitchen would have been nice but not a negative when you are only there for a few nights. They also had a huge fridge that you could put your food into.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The front desk staff were so friendly and always available to answer any question! The breakfast was very good each morning. The hotel was a short bike ride to beautiful beaches and a great little town.
Cons: The breakfast could have been extended later than 9am. We left something in the room and realized before we left to claim it but the cleaning ladies already had it in their room...in a bag... seemed like they were going to take it for themselves??

Pros: Good location well run clean hostel
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: Two well equipped kitchens, salt, oil, garlic etc. was there (I guess donated by other travelers), big fridge. Coffee was offered all day. Nice volunteers who tried to help with all our questions. Nice patio to sit on a long table. Two cupboards in the room. Possibility to do some washing an a line where you could dry your clothes.
Cons: The mattress was a killer (room 3), we stayed there 6 nights and after 3 nights I had real pain in my back, my husband was more or less o.k. but we would prefer a harder, not so worn out mattress. A few hooks in the room to hang your things would have been nice. Additionally we could not sleep when people came home from beach bars at night and started talking in the patio in the middle of the night underneath our window. The hostel was nearly booked, therefore the bathrooms were used quite often and a certain smell from the toilet araised (thanx to all men peeing standing!) - maybe it should be cleaned more often with chlorine. No towels.
7.5 Good
Pros: There was a feeling of a communal atmosphere. Very friendly in the central courtyard. Free coffee.
Cons: At times the water stopped running or the wifi was intermittent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff of the hostel is very friendly. :-) The rooms are clean and the hostel has two fully equipped kitchens. Near to the beach but far enough to not be disturbed by noises.

Pros: George is a great guy, and the place is super friendly.
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very kind! And the Hostel has an amazing vibe! The location is perfect being a little out (2 minutes walking to the center only since Samara is so small) and still in the middle of all. I loved it! Would always come back :)
Cons: Nothing ;)

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Awesome stuff, nice location (close to the beach, town center, bars and supermarkets), super nice vibes and a very good price! I loved to hang out in the nice backyard, playing games with Oscar and drinking beer! After my previously booked homestay I came back again because I loved it. Fran helped me out with my traveling plans and I loved the conversations with Ariel about music, movies and more! Thank you guys. Pura Vida!
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect small place to hang out for a while and feel like home away from home! The owner and his staff make sure you are totally taken care of and have a very relaxing Pura Vida take on life and running the place! Situated close to everything but far away to get a good night of sleep in the comfy beds! 2 kitchens make it easy to cook at home but there are many good options to eat out right around the corner! The town itself wasn’t may favorite but i for sure would come again to hang out at Matilori <3
Cons: You can’t pay by creditcard although it says so on booking but PayPal is possible!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, clean and very nice staff! Also good to meet new people when travelling alone. Had a great time here and would definately like to come back some day :)

7.0 Good
Pros: Good location, staff were nice, room was clean and quiet.
Cons: Bit weird they insist on you bringing the AC and TV remotes to the reception at check out, dampens any feeling of staying in a nice place. Intermittent smell of sulphur, though I did not mention it to reception as we were only staying one night.
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff were friendly.
Cons: Felt like a motel. The beds had one thin sheet and if you wanted a blanket you had to go to reception to request. Not great when you only realise late at night as you're going to bed late at night. Bathroom very dated.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful and peaceful room.
Cons: Cold water in the shower most of the time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Not what I expected. It was more spread out than what appeared from the road entrance. We loved the place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and comfortable. The pool area and garden were lovely and we had a balcony overlooking these. We have stayed in three hotels in Samara and this was the best.
Cons: Nothing!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This place is a little hidden gem. From the outside doesnt look like much but once go in its something else. The room is nice and clean. The bed is very comfortable. Is located walking distance to town. The staff is very friendly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable hotel at very reasonable rates. Has all facilities you need. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Samaria beach is a pure gem and thankfully not been spoilt by the crowds. Hotel only 200m from beach.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Pools were lovely. The grounds were really nice, every room has its own outdoor space to sit. The gardener has done a brilliant job, nice plants and doesn't feel like you're in an urban area.
Cons: Parking was trickier than other places a bit further out of town, but that's to be expected because the location is really convenient for walking to lots of different places and the beach.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We loved the cleanliness of the room and bathroom. The breakfast was good and the pool near our room was especially clean. The staff is awesome. Towels were changed daily.
Cons: Parking was only available for 5 or 6 cars...then one would need to double park and leave keys with the desk...inconvenient. Although three breakfast options were available, it would be nice to have a few more options for those spending more than a night or 2. It would be nice to have a blanket on the bed. I brought mine from home.
