Pros: Our stay here was exceptional. The service was outstanding. A wonderful find.
When the sky is low- the unusual chimneys of Gravetye Manor seem to hold it up to stop it sinking any further. Gently faded by time- forgotten in a quiet corner of Sussex- this manor house seems to have gradually melted into its surroundings to the point where they have become one. This is an enchanting place- close to the pleasures of London and yet far from its bustle. The great Irish horticulturist William Robinson created the gardens. It was he who invented the notion of the wild garden at the beginning of the 20th century. This romantic gardening philosophy gives wild flowers their place in a garden and lets them grow naturally rather than strictly controlling them. There are three famous English stately homes to visit in the area- those of King George VI- Sir Winston Churchill and Rudyard Kipling. The restaurant is closed to non residents for dinner on Christmas Day every year. CLUB 5C- Hotel welcomes Relais and Chateaux Club 5C members with a VIP Welcome and a Discovery Privilege. Please include the Club 5C membership number in the reservation and please show your Club 5C membership card on arrival.
Pros: People - very bright, proactive and friendly staff both in Reception and the restaurant/pub.

Very nice restaurant
Nice location, in the middle of rural Kent though still 20-25 minutes from Maidstone
Cons: Not really geared for business travellers.
Breakfast is after 0930! You are offered continental breakfast in your room if you have to leave before 0930.
Not easy to find, especially late at night, when my mobile sat nav stopped working as there was no reception and there was no single soul awake to ask for instructions.
I suggested to the owner to alert future customers at time of confirmation of booking, with emphatic fonts e.g. capitals or bold that this may be the case, so to make alternative preparations e.g. print the map or download off line map.
Do not take me wrong, overall it is a nice B&B with some very fancy rooms. Very nice for a romantic weekend/getaway!

The parking charge is reasonable but the parking is difficult: slots are narrow and it's indoors with very constricted turning space. Bring the smallest car feasible for peace of mind.
Pros: Friendliness, location. Food was much better value than last time I stayed (in 2005) Free internet in the bar.
Cons: Front desk ('operator') does not pick up phone when you call from outside No help with luggage - for older people this could be a problem. (At most Marriotts I have stayed you are offered baggage help as soon as you pull up.)

Pros: The food was fantastic. Truly great. The specials were fantastic. The chef came to to the diners to make sure that everybody was happy, was really impressed and surprised with the food. In general the staff was very helpful and nice.
Cons: The hotel décor is old and needs updated, but it didn't bother me. Old hotel.
Pros: The hotel is in a surprisingly nice location and the standard of the room was excellent. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful and courteous.
Cons: The food was really poor and let the hotel down. Both the evening meal and the breakfast were more like the standard of a budget hotel. It's a shame because this could be a very good hotel.
Pros: Quiet setting. Few guests
Cons: Noise from adjacent room
