Naomi is a great host and was very welcoming she made any shortcomings become unimportant by bringing solutions with great joy and happiness, so overall, despite any imperfections in the location, the family had a great stay. The kids had fun in the Pool. We brought in food a couple times and they happily served it to us for free. They included all drinks for free. The stay included the tuk tuk rides. They recommended good places and guides for Angkor Wat.
Dead bugs, wasps and spiders in the room by the dozens three days of our seven days. Couldn't rest the first day in the room because the pest control was removing them for a few hours. The second day they continued removing some nests when they reappeared. It is far from the center and the access road is very bad, bumpy and muddy. Amatao is becoming delabrated because of lack of maintenance. The food was expensive compared to local restaurants and many dishes and breakfast could be improved but alternatives are far because of poor location. The staff is inaccessible and only Naomi understood English so if you do are not a Cambodian language speaker you cannot ask for things when Naomi is not present at the location. The staff happily smile but ignore any requests because unfortunately I believe they do not understand.
My family was absolutely thrilled with our stay at Amatao. Before we arrived, I was a little bit worried about bringing our children because the place looks a bit like a romantic getaway spot rather than a family spot, but my worries were unfounded. Our kids were welcome and had an amazing time. The property is beautifully landscaped and well-kept with a lot of interesting spots to sit and read a book or have a drink. Our rooms were also very stylish and comfortable. The staff was, by far, Amatao's best feature. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The meals were delicious and we were especially happy with our tuk tuk driver Mr. Long. We had everything we could possibly wish for, and we're looking forward to visiting again.
Staff was excellent
