However the beach, swimming pools, nightly entertainment and the restaurant on the Marina Reef side were the best We had a king size bed however, the mattress cover, sheets, blankets and pillows were sized for a standard size bed. As a results we were uncomfortable and did not sleep well. Also in the bathroom we were notified not to drink water from the faucet. For the first day check-in they provided 2 bottles of water for use. However unknown to us we were expected to provide (buy)for all following days water to use. The balcony sliding glass door was almost impossible to secure.
Very pleasant staff and a poolside area with plenty of character
I love the staff and the way they make you feel at home. That alone overcame any other shortcoming that anyone would otherwise notice. I wished that the tv in my room was a little bigger. When lying in bed I could not read the caption or even the see score watching the World Cup on a 13 inch set. But then again, most people would not have time for tv anyway.
Staff was really friendly. Close to the beach. The breakfast was great. The room itself was really good for the price. Clean and romantic room. nothing
It was very charming, good energy and the staff was wonderful. The beds were not very comfortable. If I was a younger person that probably wouldn't have bothered me as much.
The owners were very attentive and patiently answered questions. The hotel is small, with a beautifully landscaped pool area. Each room had a little private patio. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are quiet despite being right in the city. The food in the restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced. It is only a short walk to the beach and the shopping area.
very friendly atmosphere, great meal service. close to the ocean, lots of pubs and disco clubs...Casa Valeria is run by german couple... to be honest all the stuff is from Europe (except for the house cleaning crew)Very good place to be (nice swimming pool)
it is a really comfortable hotel to be into the city area. what i did not like about the hotel was that it does not have any parking lot available, therefore you must park on the street.
I've been there several times and the staff are very friendly. Location is excellent. The rooms are real nice and comfortable. I will alway's go back there. I'm pretty good friends with the owners, as a matter of fact I got married there and they did a great reception for us for practically nothing. Big thumbs up
Easy walk to both beaches nearby. Many restaurants close by. Bit noisy.
Staff was great, the owners were very helpful and really amazing. We were even greeted with fresh fruit drinks on our arrival, on the house. Clean an d confortable rooms, very nice and clean pool among the rooms, breakfast is not included but served in their own restaurant for a good value for money price. Hotel in very good location.
All employees were most kind and considerate. the restaurant had excellent food and services. The big problem was lack of hot water. it was available only a few hours which were in the late morning and afternoon. there was no hot water during the night, early morning and evening., the majority of the time I was forced to take cold showers. an experienced vacationer and traveler from the U.s western europe and other decent places is not happy being told that the native dominicans are used to taking cold showers. D.R. is a hot and humid tropical environment and a hot and thorough shower is required to maintain and enjoy healthy clean bodies.
i liked the stuff and the amability
The decor was nice The ad was misleading. There were no shuttles to the airport and that was the #1 reason why I picked the location; I believed I would have a ride to the airport but everyone hustled me a fee. There was no rooftop terrace. It was in a very loud area.
the best thing about this hotel is that it is located in the town of sousa - so when you get tired of the beach there is local nightlife and dining.the beach isn't the best - but for a $3-5 dollar (you have to bargain) 15-20 minute moped ride you can go the beach at caberete which is nicer.one final note, if you go during the winter you are going during the rainy season - expect to get a rained out for at least a day.
I would give this hotel 4 stars if it weren't for the ants. Not exactly sure why they were on the fourth floor, and in my room, but I suggest If you bring food that you keep it in the fridge. The room are excellent and the view of the ocean is gorgeous. Delicious food, fantastic people. I will definitely go back in the future.
Checked in Christmas Eve 2010, checked out after an hour. Place has run down terribly. Run down furniture in room, tub dirty and fixtures rusted. Pool covered with leaves, not vacuumed for days. Not one piece of fitness equipment was operable. Stairs to beach broken, making access difficult. A la carte restaurant was closed. The whole area just did not feel safe. No way this is a 3 star place.
I Have just returned from this property, it is out of season and was very quiet. It was as if the entire place was my own resort, Staff, Food, Bar, Pool, Beach, one could hardly ask for more, It is quiet and safe and easy and safe walking distance of downtown 5 minutes. Great Place, I will go back.
My friend and I just got back from Sosua By The Sea on 3/4/08. Overall it was okay trip but never use the long distance telephone service to make calls from this hotel (it is very expensive). Learn from my mistake and use the nearby Internet Cafe shops siempre if you have to make calls to the United States.\n\nBe careful walking around Sosua because traffic laws did not seem to be very important there. The streets are narrow and there are mopeds everywhere.\n\nThe Damajagua Falls is a must see. It is a beautiful place and I look forward to going back their soon.
my husband and i were in sosua for three weeks to study spanish. the school booked us into sosua by the sea and it was a total unknown. we're about to return for another visit because it was a wonderful experience and we can't wait to get back. the hotel is small, quiet and in a great location....right on the beach. the staff cannot do enough to make your vacation as special as possible...the food is excellent and the service is like nothing you experience in the united states. the dominican people are so warm and friendly...they seem to have an inner happiness that reaches out and makes you want to hug everyone. please do not believe what you hear about 'having to stay inside your barricaded resort'...not in sosua and cabarete. walk freely, talk to people, smile and have the best vacation of your life. try the local restauarants...they are wonderful and great bargains.
Overall stay was good, except for constantly barking dogs and noise on the street. Couldn't get another room because it was full over Christmas & New Year's. \n\nSecond night there, the air conditioner stopped blowing cold air and it was + 85 in our room. Five requests to the front desk, but nothing was done. This was well before the resort was filled to capacity. No ceiling fans or portable fans in our 1-bedroom apartment. We insisted on moving one night around 11 pm, but had to argue before our request was granted. A week later, the same air conditioning problem, but this time, it took less than an hour for maintenance to fix the problem. The air conditioner problem was discussed frequently among guests, even those who regularly stay at the resort. \n\nStaff and food were very good, as well as on site security and easy walking to nearby stores and restaurants. The all inclusive option was too much over two weeks. We just needed to get out and eat elsewhere every other day. Loved being right at the beach, spent lots of time snorkeling nearby reefs, relaxing on the small, but quiet beach and exploring Sosua. A bit pricey at $ 250 US/night for a couple with all-inclusive option. Besides losing alot of sleep due to the street and reception area noise levels, room was very good, bed was comfy and we enjoyed our stay. Next time, we plan to stay in Cabarete at a smaller resort owned by a Canadian couple we met in a Supermercado. \n\nSosua is bustling and the prostitutes are fun to watch with their Sugar Daddies. Lots of chicas and older gringo companions every where. Currency exchange at the resort not very good, but better at exchange kiosks within 5 min walk.
To be honest the hotel wasnt bad, the first couple days were all rain but the remainder of the trip the weather was GREAT! We had some MAJOR RENOVATIONS going on while we were there which we were not aware that renovations would be going on during our stay. Also the Private Beach they talk about in the hotel add was GONE! They said they had some storms back in april that completly removed the beach. The private beach is now just private rock! We made the best of it and had a very nice time while in Sosua. The city of Sosua can be a little intimadating at times but we ventured out into the city and explored a bit.....be prepared to get hassled by EVERYONE in the city....The staff at the hotel was very nice. The beds were not very comfortable...Overall I LIKED THE PLACE! I believe when they finish renovations the hotel will be even nicer! Ocean view was amazing! They also have amazing food!....The head Chef really knows how to cook.... FOOD WAS AWESOME! So in a nutshell.............I loved the place just disappointed about renovations and the lack of beach which they advertised as private! I would stay at this hotel again and I look forward to going back someday! Oh one more thing.......there are horsebackriding trips that are booked for customers......The trip was amazing the guide helped us navigate the city and was just a great guy! If you get the chance to take this trip!...DO IT!
Just got back in Feb 09. This hotel was a wonderful bargain. The room price was reasonable. The staff made it a great experience, they were exceptionally nice. The bed was very comfortable, king size with a duvet cover. There is a parking lot in front of the hotel and is always manned by security. The pool was small but well maintained. The hotel is located in a town that is primarily frequented by ''Sugar Daddies'' (those looking to hook up with women for a good time). I did not eat at the hotel. There were lots of bars and restaurants located nearby. The nightlife in town was exciting and non stop. When I got there, the beach was gone due to the storms. It looked like another planet fulll of jagged volcanic rock. But the sand came back the next day, weirdest thing I've ever seen. Would stay there again.
The hotel itself was quiet, rooms were beautiful, beach is quiet and secluded. This is a great place if you are looking to keep to yourself, but not if you are looking for constant entertainment and a lively hopping place. The food for breakfast was fine, but lunch was mediocre and we ended up eating out and finding wonderful restautants elsewhere, and not too expensive. The staff was wonderful and helpful, and it seemed that all the rooms were recently renovated, not doing the pictures shown any justice. Overall, Small, quiet, nice, dined elsewhere for lunch and dinner.
LOCATION,FREE BREAKFAST,, GREAT CROWD AT BREAKFAST FRENDLY PEOPLE STAYING THERE
