Oceanfront room with gas fireplace on a chilly day. Very clean and comfortable. Very nice restaurant for dinner and breakfast.
Everything was great, except for the wifi connection. We ended up needing to use our data instead in order to do anything requiring the internet. Overall a lovely and romantic stay.
The beach view was just as great as Maui (in a different way) if not better. The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, staff were beyond friendly, & plenty more! I was happy w the entire stay! Nothing
right on the beach The place was really run down, the room was tiny and not that clean. Kinda overpriced. The restaurant was terrible. The server was nice and polite but it took 45 min just to get a cocktail order in and it took another two hours to get our food, and when the food arrived it was cold, extremely overpriced and all 3 of us didn't feel well the next morning.
Won't be staying at a Shilo Inn ever again based on our experience at this location
Got an amazing deal and didnt pay extra for an ocean view but still got one, hotel is right on the beach You could hear all the noises from people walking and talking outside
Ocean right out the door. Convenient to walk to cafes (panini and stephanies are great). For the price very dated amenities. Make me scared of what the $60 hotels in Newport are like.
Upon arriving at the hotel I was informed that I did not have a room and that while I had booked a room with two queen beds there was only three rooms left in the entire hotel and they were single beds. I was also told that they had no record of my confirmation and I would have to contact my booking agency to get a refund. There was nothing the hotel could do for me, within ten minutes I was told that the three rooms that were available where now no longer available. While the issue may have been a result of miscommunication with the booking agency and the hotel the staff was less than friendly about the situation and while they were professional their attitude was one of "sorry, nothing we can do it's your problem". Based on the attitude of the staff I would not attempt to stay here again.
Good room for a great price.
The beach access was perfect, as was the view from the room. The hotel was close to everything, we walked to the shops at Nye Beach, plus a short drive to the bay front district. Breakfast coupons and free drink coupons on site were perfect! Nothing we didn't like!
Location... View was the best. Room was dated. Fridge was broke. Pool looked skungey.
tHE LOCATION iT WAS SHABBY AND RUN DOWN. WHO'S THE SLUMB LORD THAT OWNS IT? THERE'S SO MUCH DEFERRED MAINTENANCE THAT IT WOULD TAKE A CREW OF HANDIMEN MONTHS TO PUT IT BACK INTO GOOD SHAPE!
The views! Every room had an unobstructed view of the beach. It was a nice change of pace compared to other hotels in that price range. The rooms were very dated. When I want to check in, there seemed to be too many trainees and not enough people behind the desk that knew what they were doing. It seemed like there was one person behind the desk that knew what he was doing. Every question from the other people checking in and the cleaning staff was going through him, which increased the waiting times for everyone else , the line was literally out the door. What stuck me as odd was there was another person there who knew what to do but decided that at 4:00, chech in time, she had to go home instead of helping out. Because of the line of people checking in and rooms not being ready by check in times, it took me 30 min just to get my room. If it wasn't for the view, I would of went somewhere else.
Loved the view. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean. Linens were fresh and crisp. The shower had excellent pressure. View was slightly marred by another building. The room had a definite slope to one side. Entering the bathroom was like the Twilight Zone. The beds were saggy. The shower curtain was old and the threads were pulled. The only way down to the beach was 84 stairs. Being disabled, the beach at this motel was inaccessible. Only french roast coffee.
The room and accommodations were excellent. The hotel staff is friendly and courteous. The beds were very comfortable and had very nice pillows. The waitresses in the restaurant were pleasant and helpful. They made a point of sharing the absolutely breathtaking sunset over the ocean with us and suggesting local attractions we might enjoy. The hotel is nice and has a great location, but the staff makes it even better. The food in the restaurant is not that good. We enjoyed the calamari, and the atmosphere and view were fantastic. It's not a bad place for a pleasant quiet meal, and you can't beat the view. But if you really want to experience good local dining ask the staff where the locals go for good food.
The 101 was shut down in the direction we were heading and we needed a hotel at the last minute. We got a good deal on the room, check in was snappy, room was comfy and clean. The bathtub was a little uncomfortable.
We stayed with our children on the top floor. They loved it! The view was beautiful. We will be staying there in the future. It is close to the beach and they have a little hose to wash of sandy feet near the path up to the hotel. Pool room is great too! We wish they offered a free breakfast.
We love the location and ocean view this hotel offers. We arrived 3 hours before check in time and the staff had our room ready within 15 minutes and allowed us to check in early. The room is not kid friendly, there was cords everwhere. My crawling 9 month old brought light to many open outlets and dangling cords throughout the entire room. We also saw several splatters of unknown substances around the rooms walls (gross) and on the headboard (even grosser).
Very convenient to beach. Nice swimming pool. Excellent on-site dining in the cafe. The prices were reasonable and the food was good. The bacon...yum! All staff that we encountered were polite and friendly. Good choice for families. Also dogs are allowed! The air system in the room was out of date and made sleeping stuffy unless the door was left open. This used to be a Hilton, and now looks like there are a number of updates necessary....some holes in the wall..in dining room. Though everything was clean it had a bit of a tired look. However, I will say that I think it is an excellent lodging for families.
The only thing i liked about this hotel was how close it was to the beach. My credit card was over charged 3 times! They over charged me a total of 229$ when I went to talk to the manager about this she said there was nothing I could do until tomorrow when you check out. So needless to say my vacation was ruined. I wasn't able to do as much as I had wanted to do. Then the next morning during check out she reversed all the fees. Later i checked my bank statement to see if the money was refunded and they had shorted me a dollar. I will never stay at this hotel again. Nor will i ever suggest it to anyone.
The beds were comfortable and the hotel was clean. It was a little too spendy.
Everything. The staff was friendly, the room was very spacious and clean. We received 10% off at the Steakhouse right behind the hotel (and it was delicious), plus the free hot breakfast was very good. Overall, one of the best hotels I've stayed at. Nothing
The Starfish Grill, we ordered the special for breakfast. 2 waffles, 2 pieces of bacon. It came out, and it looked like 2 small freezer waffles. Very disappointed. I thought they would at leastsketch fresh breakfast, especially since we were paying for this. No free breakfast as BW has been advertising.
My husband and I stayed here 1 night but wish we stayed longer! The staff was super friendly. The room was a nice size and included a couch and fireplace. The view was lovely even considering the foggy weather we were given. Would definitely make a point to visit here again! The elevator is slow
The hotel was tastefully done and very homey
Love this hotel. The beach views are fantastic. Room had a great balcony overlooking the ocean, and a nice fireplace. The staff was friendly. We stayed there 2 nights - room has a fridge, which is nice. My kids loved the pool. I was not a fan of the breakfast. The sausage gravy was not very good, and the eggs did not look appealing. To be fair, most hotels offer a "free hot breakfast", and IMO, most are not very good, so I am not surprised.
The staff The mattress was due to be replaced
No surprises. Good bed and linens. Appreciate the in house laundry"
Good location Overpriced for average in everything but the location
Very romantic waterfront Hotel we had an excellent stay and will definitely be back There wasn't anything I didn't like
We had an upgrade to a king suite, which was very pleasant. The facilities were nice and the staff kind. The bed was comfortable and the location in Nye Beach is great. In room french press and coffee was pleasant. Access to games and DVDs was great for our family. We didn't have direct beach access from the Inn due to construction that blocked the staircase. The room was also difficult to keep warm enough, especially the bathroom.
Everything else Bed
Quality clean, friendly staff, very accommodating
Loved that there was an indoor pool and hot tub. Close to the aquarium. Lobby was clean, warm and inviting. Even decorated for Halloween. Our room had a very funky smell to it. Room 209.
The pool and the hot tub worked well for us. The staff were great. Close to the aquarium. Our hotel's view was of the hotel next door parking lot with very bright lights. But as the only hotel left in Newport that day,I'm not complaining!
Comfortable room Reserved two nights, schedule changed and only needed one. Still charged for two and they told me there was nothing they could do.
There was absolutely no ocean view like the pictures suggested. when I booked a suite I expected a bedroom in its own room. Not a half wall dividing a pull out couch with an inch thick mattress that was slanted. I have a toddler and thanks to the misrepresentation we had to be in bed with him at 8:30. The front desk did nothing to aid my complaints besides tell me I read the website wrong. This room was definitely not worth the $200 a night I paid for it and I will never be returning to this hotel.
Continental breakfast is always a plus. Beds were comfy and having a fridge in the room is a great point for my choice of hotels.
She room was really nice. Mosquitoes in the area got into the front area.
Tha location overlooking the Newport Bay is very nice and relaxing. Great view. Close proximity to the historic bay front. The room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The pillows were not the best, very firm and not comfortable.
The view was Great and the weather perfect. Sunny and windless. Even if it had been raining and windy it was still a great place to watch rough weather, Room was very comfortable. Kitchen had all the right stuff and everything was very clean. Bed was very comfortable - no complaints there.
My boyfriend and I stayed here one day and one night during a coastal road trip. The view from our condo and the pure coziness of everything and the beauty of the grounds made us want to stay for a whole week! It was my boyfriends birthday and I purchased the celebration package for him and Aaron went above and beyond with it! The grounds are beautiful and well kept and I can't wait to bring my family back to this gem!
The apartment was like new with excellent views of the beach and headlands. Excellent for family dog too. Good for both fair and foul weather.
Comfortable rooms, good breakfast, lots of pillows Cable TV
Staff were very friendly, courteous, and helpfu. I wish they included recycle bins in the room. The hotel did not seem very eco-friendly.
Cleanliness, professional staff, great value for the money, proximity to beachfront.
Great location for everything that I needed to get done on this trip
We were right across from the beach. The room was super clean and modern. The staff were so kind and helpful. Nothing, I would stay there again
Comfort Inn is always a good value. Clean, comfortable and friendly staff.
The room and beds were comfortable. The staff was attentive and helpful. The included. Real fast had tons of options and offered something for everyone.
What was not to like. This is not our first time staying at the hotel. We come up every year from California and this is always the place we stay at. Everyone is always nice and it's always clean.
Beds are always comfy, like the microwave and fridgie in the room, room size is always generous however, the carpet in the room had large brown spots on it, the elevator was a tight squeeze and slow, and the walls could use some new paint. We could also only get one seat in the breakfast room so my sister had to stand and eat.
Staff was friendly, room was clean and it was well located. Hot tub wasn't working and the beds were really uncomfortable. We aren't high maintenance people but they were pretty solid and firm.
Pool, breakfast, staff. Location was great.
I wouldn't book this hotel for your anniversary. But we took our family to the aquarium and it was perfect!!! A great value Pool, fitness center Great kind staff Continental breakfast Clean and updated for the coast It's hard to walk to the bay front with kids because you need to cross the bridge
Small breakfast room, had to wait for a seat
Bright lights on parking lot, HD programming Soulless, boxy, long hallways
Location was very convenient for us No wifi
Location is the best part. You can walk to the bay and brewery. Downtown area just over the bridge and down to the right! It was hot as hell in the 3rd floor. No AC, carpet sticky. Smelled like asshole. Very stinky. Okay clean. Staff ok. TV nice. Nothing special. It's good for a quick stay. Stayed two nights. would not stay again. Only if nothing else was available. You get what you pay for.
Great place with a great price. Walking distance to the Oregon Aquarium and Rogue Brewery. Easy access on and off the highway.
Pretty bedspreads Staff was quite rude. Half used limes, salt and dirty glasses were under the beds.
This hotel was super nice for what we paid for it! Doesn't have AC but it was not to warm when we stayed! We were able to open a window!
The lady at the front desk was very pleasant and helpful. This hotel is located on the south end of the Yaquina Bay Bridge...within walking distance you will find, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Some cute tourist shops, and the Rouge Ales Brewers on the Bay. You can see the bay and bridge from some windows so ask for a view if you want one. Our view was that of the RV park behind the hotel. Upon entering the room it smelled strongly of crab...I have a feeling the last guests cleaned their crab here....and minutes later I did see some young men carrying 2 big ice chests into their room...that I could only guess were full of sea food. The room was clean enough although the walls do need a good wipe down. I did not feel welcomed to sit on the couch as it seemed quite dirty and it had a rip in the arm of the chair that was "patched up" with some cloth of the same fabric and some glue. The fireplace was inoperable. All 3 vending machines were also out of order. There was only a VCR in our room however they do loan out VHS' in the lobby. The continental breakfast was half of a muffin and coffee.
We enjoyed the pool, and the hotel is a short walk to beach access. Our room was very hot and smelled awful when we arrived. We left the window open the whole time and the smell became tolerable. The continental breakfast doesn't start until 8. We paid for ocean view and had an OK view over a neighboring roof and through power lines and a power pole.
facility not well maintained; faded, unfinished paint not very clean rooms have musty smell old carpets, old bedding, old drapery sheets did not fit bed even after request made that they do fit not much effort being made, obviously
Nothing Rude, dirty
The pool was nice It wasn't clean the floor was dirty and there where ain't in the bathroom and near the window
The swimming pool area was great. It was clean and plenty of towels Nice view of the ocean. Staff was very nice and acccomodating. Rooms were a bit stuffy and the beds were too hard for my liking.
I loved the ocean view from my room. The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The indoor pool was much nicer than I anticipated - very clean, with a nice hot tub and sauna. Because weather at the coast can be unpredictable, it was nice to have an indoor pool as back-up entertainment for me and my young child. I was also pleasantly surprised by the "continental breakfast." We had cereal, bagels, waffles, oatmeal, fruit, and more available to us. I'm not really looking for luxury in a hotel but, rather, clean, safe, well-located at a reasonable price and The Waves definitely delivered. Though you can see the ocean right out your window, beach access is rather far away. I didn't realize that going in, so it was a mild disappointment. But this was minor.
The ocean view is breathtaking. Down town Ney beach is wonderful. Fun for every age, from cafe to coffee, and dinner to drinks. This has it all. Have to walk or drive 1/4 mile to acsess beach. But the view from our room was worth the walk.
Was able to hear the ocean at night I'm not a picky person, but maid service should be able to vacuum around the bed and walls had not been done in sometime. Gap under door was large enough to let light in and shower was extra small with out proper shower curtain. Front desk person was not happy that we arrived after 10:00pm. Sorry our jobs do not allow us to leave early in day. But my next stay in Newport will be with a motel that wants me there.
We came and stayed for 2 nights. Room was very clean. It was designated non-smoking. Shower had plenty of hot water (I have not always seen this to be true in economy hotels). Rooms were quiet (or maybe we were lucky and had quiet neighbors). Towels were of good quality. Although they used those really tiny bars of soap, housekeeping left a pile of them. The mattresses and pillows were average but fine. Although we did not need it, I was happy to see a clearly marked, easily accessible coin-operated guest laundry. Did I mention it was very clean? The hotel was an easy, several block walk into the historic district of Nye Beach. Breakfast was very adequate - a selection of breads with butter and jam, freezer waffles, hard-cooked eggs, cold cereals, fruit juice. The fruit bowl had lots of bananas. It was nothing fancy, but was completely adequate. Room also had dish tv and a DVD player. There was an eclectic selection of movies for rent in office. There was no direct beach access, which was disappointing. The one small window did not prop open very well, and that kept the room warmer than it needed to be (daytime temperatures were very warm). There are no balconies. No fan to help at window. The building we were in did not have an elevator and the climb to the 3rd floor was inconvenient (my knees are not good), although we liked our 3rd floor room. If we stay there again, I will remember to ask for the building with an elevator. My family did not mind not having the elevator. I hated that several guests came to breakfast in pajamas (really??!) - but that's not the hotel's fault! Decor was dated, but that would not prevent me from staying there again! There was a small alarm clock, that was not plugged in, but we had our cell phones, which we used for alarm clocks.
It's in the bay with a nice view Room was about 25 years outdated, sub par cleanliness, and old room smell
I appreciated that the staff was very friendly and helpful. I had a problem with the booking company to upgrade my room, which was not acceptable. I arrived at the resort and they were able to upgrade my room with no problem. I will go back again.
A last minute decision to stay in Newport. There were no AirBnB's and this was a good option. The room and bathroom were clean. People parked their SUV's in compact spots. The breakfast was grab N go, and super sugary. Anyone who was using the water you could hear the loud pipes through the walls. Too expensive for this place.
Clean rooms. Breakfast very limited and not restocked very well.
The room was perfect size for me and my wife. The room was updated recently and you can tell they put money into the hotel to make it better. the room had a microwave and refrigerator which allowed us to have snacks in the room. the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was big. overall the experience was great and the people that worked there were friendly. the only complaint i had was the seagulls that squawked all night but not the hotel's fault.
The rooms are spacious and clean. The beds are comfortable. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The cleaning crew were very nice and the evening clerk was helpful. The continental breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Donuts, cereal, muffins and a little fruit was all that was offered. Coffee was to bitter to drink. The staff made you feel awkward while getting breakfast. Only cool air is by opening the window so at night it was a little to warm to sleep.
My husband and i really liked that the facility had a hot tub and offered guests free continental breakfast each day. The room was very neat and clean, and our bed had lots of comfy pillows! The building needed obvious updates. The "spa" was a hot tub that was not very hot and had no dial to turn up the temperature. Our continental breakfast was free fruit and a bowl of cereal. Not much continental about that!
It was a good value for the price and centrally located. Staff was very good and was very hellpful. Wifi sucks. It's older joint and needs some paint here and there.
Nothing Waited for ever, him and family were eating or something. Finally shows up to the desk n is rude n short. Was in a bad place n was run down. Went to the Shilo was great n had good food. No pets ever which is against the law with service animals. Don't go place looked terrible...
Unit had no A/C. Not good on a warm summer day.
The staff was great and offered me breakfast when I got there in the late afternoon . I told them I could not do stairs and they gave us a nice one on the ground floor. It was not the staff's fault but three units down a couple was in the parking lot a midnight talking loudly . He wanted into her pants and she was loving the attention . Her name was Debbie . Debbie did not do Dudley.
Good location, clean rooms, micro, fridge wifi. Nice chinese restaurant on location No ac, but cool with good breeze
Beds not so comfortable
Walking distance to beach and Nye Beach area. Staff was very helpful. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast bar very small with only a single coffee pot; selection mediocre. Grounds untidy and messy & smelly garbage container near rooms and ice machine. Building needs upgrades and repair.
The breakfast was awesome with eggs, waffles, cereal, juices, hot chocolate, fruit, bagels, muffins and probably more. Knocks $20+ off the price of the stay, in my opinion. Check-in was a minor hassle because of Costco firing American Express and switching to CitiBank Visa cards. This resulted in the credit card I used to book the room earlier this year being denied when we attempted to check in. Apparently, our reservation was cancelled because we were not at the motel at 3:00 P.M. However, the receptionist was able to get approval to reinstate the reservation within 10-15 minutes and we enjoyed our stay.
Way over priced for cheap nasty motel.
covered and somewhat enclosed passageways - helped muffle hwy 101; saw ocean but would have liked to hide houses between hotel and ocean. continental breakfast. friendly staff. comfortable bed. Sue
Nice staff. Decent breakfast. No elevator. Funny smell to room. Lumpy mattress. Place has a very old and worn feel to it.
Clean Poor wifi. Terrible breakfast. Very small room
You should stop emailing me after this You emailing me 5 times
Clean rooms and good breakfast selection. Low rates for a good clean hotel room. Would be nice if they had a pool or spa.
Easy to find and good location on main highway through town. Room was clean and comfortable. Wish breakfast had diabetic options.
Clean Air freshener was way too strong when we entered the room, my daughter's sinuses kept her up all night long.
conveniently located close to good restauarants spotty wifi
You get what you pay for. Old and musty. Good enough for a one nighter
I booked the day we came on Spring BREAK so I was thrilled I got something at all. But the bonus was the family who ran it was cheerful and polite. You could tell by the grouds and rooms they took in pride in their property. The only thing I'd change is the bed, it was a tad squeaky due to the plastic on the box spring. We'd definitely stay again.
Despite the name, the room was clean, bed was soft, they're located just up the hill from Rogue Brewery and a lot of adorable shops on the inner side of the Newport bay, and the beach on the other side. It seems weird to mention but the window opens - something a lot of hotels at this price level have sealed shut. That's great with what nice weather you get most of the year. The name kind of implies something a lot worse. There was a loud argument between 2 people in one of the adjacent rooms, but, I've had that at pricey hotels, so, not very relevant.
If you are looking for a clean, decent hotel room close to the beach and attractions but are on a budget, this is a great place to stay. Friendly staff, great location and very clean. Bed was very comfortable too!
Checked out little late but they were totally cool with it. Folks working the front desk and cleaning was done very well. For the price, I really can't complain. Close to all the surf spots near Newport.
Short walk to beach access. Staff were friendly. I said I wanted a quiet room, they think the highway side is quieter but in no way is that remotely true. There was sticky brown substance on the microwave buttons, there was sticky clear substance on bathroom floor. There was an overpowering floral/fruit scent permeating the room which never subsided even with door and window wide open.
The location, it is close to a state park, the aquarium, marine science center. They allowed our puppy, staff was friendly and brought us extra pillows. The walls are thin, there were people fighting and people running up and down the stairs at night. I guess it is an inexpensive motel, just wish people were more considerate. That was the only complaint I had about the motel.
Staff was very pleasant and helpful! For the price I paid I was very satisfied with the room and accommodations.
The location was great, just minutes from the ocean and all sorts of fun things to do The rooms are an average size and the beds are not the best. The bed was just thrown together and was not nice and neat with the clean straight bed cover. It looked like they just quickly threw the cover on there with no concern for professional appearance
They do the best they can with what they have, and it's a quick 5 minute walk and you're on the beach.
The staff was very nice and helpful. The room stunk the bedding was very old. The room faced the main street not the beach view. It was also farther away from things then was advertised.
