Stunning location, lovely pool area, nature trail on site
Pick up - this went smoothly a white van came to pick us up from where we were staying in San Jose. We then picked up another couple and then we stopped and changed from the van to a large coach bus where there were a lot of people already. We continued to pick up more people at one more stop before really hitting the road. Travel - long rides on the coach, no wifi but okay. Boat rides to the lodge were good, on the way they stopped to show us some animals and on the way back just zipped through (got bumpy at times). Meals - had to sit with other people and make small talk. But food itself was quite good, always typical Costa Rican food but lots of variety. First breakfast was at Sables (fried egg, rice&beans, hot dogs, plantains, fruits and coffee). Meals at the hotel were very nice too, in the three days had rice, there was pasta with tomatoe sauce the I didn't have, fish, chicken, beef and pork, salad, cooked vegetables, potato salad, grilled veggies, eggs, rice pudding, flan, lime pie. Coffee was always available and good. Lodge - Beautiful cabin (we had room 201, which isn't the block of rooms just a single standing one). There are no real windows so sound definitely travels but we were more isolated than other rooms so was fine. There was a ceiling fan to keep us cool that worked well. The washrooms were clean and modern with a rain shower. Lots of wildlife just outside the room. Rocking chairs outside the cabin. The swimming pool was nice, there was a jetted section that I assumed was a hot tub but it was cold water. Trail on the property was good - saw a sloth here - trail took 30 min even with stopping to watch the sloth for a bit.
There isn't much to do at night but a good place for down time. Had to eat and travel in a pretty large group for the 3 days.
This was a great place. Food was great and Staff amazing as well as the wonderful guides!
The resort is wonderful, located in the middle of the rainforest. The whole place is full of nature, very well looked after and one can see multiple animals, from monkeys to iguanas and frogs without leaving the hotel. There is a walking trail that is also wonderful. There is a guided walk along that but one can also do it alone if desired. The place is very peaceful and excursions are nice. The excursions included are very nice and they offer other activities, too which are also recommendable. We took the transport option from San Jose and it was very convenient. On the way back we took a flight and the hotel arranged our transport to the little airport free of charge, too. staff was very friendly and helpful at all times.
All meals and activities are done with the group you arrived at the hotel. Breakfast, lunch and dinner you have to sit down with the same people, no option to change tables, group or even eat alone. There is also no flexibility to eat something outside the designated eating times for your group. While I fully recommend the experience, the whole "group" thing was not enjoyable.
The organization, the facilities, the people and the food is amazing.
There is a lot of time just to rest - I would prefer more activities.
