10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay with José! He is a lovely host and a very interesting person. His garden and all his vegetables and fruit were a treat. He also gave us fresh eggs! We cooked each night using his wonderful ingredients. He provided great advice about the island and made our stay very special. The apartment was well equipped with everything we needed and more. I would highly recommend this place and hope to return.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Grâce à l'accueil de José et son merveilleux jardin, nous nous sommes sentis chez nous. The appartement is spotless and big enough to feel comfortable. It is also well equipped just like at home. Upon our arrival José had prepared a beautiful welcome basket of fresh fruit, vegetables and eggs from his bountiful, organic garden. He took the time to show us his garden and we enjoyed many lovely exchanges with him during our stay. It is located just five minutes away from Velas, close to the airport but is is very calm, no noise at night. José is a kind, attentive host and we hope very much to be back to St Jorges again. Monica, Fred and the kids
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect appartment, very clean, all equipment necessary in the kitchen and bathroom, laundry room. José the owner was extremely nice, made us a map of Sao Jorge with all the good spots to see and things to do. The house is on a farm, with lots of fruits and vegetables, chickens and quails, we basically just bought bread and cheese and everything else was from the farm. You can pick what you need in the garden and José brought us fresh fruits everyday. Watermelon, strawberries, grapes, figues, bananas, avocados, oranges, lemons, lime and lots more. Fresh herbs to make our own tea, José brought us fresh chicken eggs and quail eggs. It's about a 5 minutes drive from the airport, 10 minutes from the ferry. José is a great host, we loved chatting with him about the Island and is life here. He is very helpful if you need anything!!!!! TROPICAL FRUIT GARDEN is the best place to stay if you go to Sao Jorge and want more than just a room to stay in, it's a great experience!!!!!!!! I definitely recommend this place!!!

7.9 Good
Pros: Good location. stunning view over Pico, surrounded by nature, quiet place, the rooms look like much more beautiful traditional houses than ordinary hotel rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The whole structure would need a little more care. The restaurant is excellent, family managed, but definitively understaffed, so that the service is extremely slow, even compared to the typical slow time of the Azores. If you opt for the dinner in, be prepared and take your time.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: This was a lovely hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast room was particularly nice and a good place to time out in the middle of the afternoon with a cup of tea looking out across the harbour, before continuing to explore the island. We were celebrating a special birthday for my husband, and the staff helped to book a table at a very nice restaurant and organised the taxi. They were excellent.
Cons: It was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome with a spumante and fruit was really great. The breakfast was also good. The woman was always smiling and available.
Cons: Nothing special. I had to wait to pay at check out because they forgot to charge at check in.
10.0 Excellent

Casa do Antonio exceeded my expectations, as the room was spacious and the view over the church, sea and Mt Pico wonderful. The buffet breakfast is very good. Also, a travel agency is attached to the guest house and they organise local excursions and trips to the other islands

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect for exploring the island, just next to the airport and a few miles from Velas. The best part about the hotel for us was the delicious food. We had amazing seafood and steak during our stay and it was all very reasonably priced. The food we’ve had in the Azores as a whole has been just ok but here it was delicious. The staff were all very friendly and smiling every time you saw them.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and presentable, lots of space to store and open the bags.
Cons: Some noise from the main road.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Superfriendly people! Spacious bathroom
Cons: The beds are a little hard
7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast is good with local dairy products. Hotel managers are very kind and helpful. They helped as on many occasions. The house looks like a typical countryside house, quite charming. The restaurant downstairs is a convenience for tired hikers returning back home.
Cons: The suite that is exposed to the road and sun is getting hot during the day. The walls are made of black volcanic rocks that retain heat for very long time and act as radiators. In the suite there is an aircon that alleviates the problem during the day. However, it is located just above the bed, so we didn’t use it at night, and it was quite hot, not good for sleeping.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very nice and helpful, the cleaness of the space and the excelent location.
Cons: The breakfast could be much better, there wasn't much variety and the staff wasn't at sight.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The backyard is nice and the internet is one of the most solid I found in the island.
Cons: The variety of options for the breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Don't be concerned with it being near the airport, they only have a few planes a week. We did not see a single plane during our stay. It was nice to be able to eat dinner on site...food was delicious.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Next door to airport and no sound issue. Very fast WiFi. Helpful and kind staff. Complete breakfast. View of Pico island. Good affordable restaurant.
Cons: Not much table space. Just an idea to improve/integrate: could offer fresh fruit produce from nearby farms (as oranges and cherimoya/anona).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love the charm of this hotel! We stayed upstairs in a room with double beds - very comfortable! Room and bathroom spacious. Loved the water and cookies that were provided, very nice touch. Room opens up to a charming little courtyard shared by other rooms. Hotel is very close to airport which is really handy and easy to get to. Hotel has restaurant and bar specializing in local fare - don't miss the cheese. (Wine was very reasonably priced, $1 euro for a very full glass of wine :-)) Rooms were quiet.

Pros: We only stayed one night here. The pool area and grounds are beautiful! They should a restaurant/bar during the day ... rooms are clean and comfy. It’s no Azor hotel but the small islands don’t really have 5 star quality. They have a shuttle service to the airport (you need to reserve that) for 6 euros each. Staff were great! Thanks for a nice time.

6.7 Good
Pros: Maria is a very nice hostess. Our room had a nice little terrace in front. The outdoor pool has a great view. Very quiet (except for the very loud seabirds called Cory’s shearwaters. You’ll never forget the sound!). Our suite had 2 bedrooms, one of which was very large.
Cons: It’s up a ridiculous hill on the far outskirts of town. NO A/C. Only 1 window, with no screen. Bathroom is small and awkward. There’s not much in town. Staff was very difficult to get ahold of outside breakfast hours. No phone in room and no cell service.
7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely outlook, very helpful staff
Cons: Generally needs a little updating, the room could use a fan at night.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great hospitality, amazing views.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The kind welcome from Maria. The swimming pool.
Cons: Mattrasses and size of double bed could be improved.
8.8 Excellent

Casa da Ermida - Velas - Building
9
9.3 Excellent (14 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The inn is hard to find as google maps was way off. We finally got ahold of Carlos, the manager, and he met us on the main road and we followed him in our car to the inn. The place is very comfortable and very clean, and the kitchen has most dishes and utensils that you need to cook. However, you’ll need to buy your own spices, oils, etc. Outside BBQ and dining area was nice to use. The stairs going to the lower level of the house could use a rail as they are made of lava stone and are a bit steep. Views are pretty good of Pico and sometimes you can even see the top of Pico mountain! On our final morning Carlos took me back to Lages do Vimes to buy coffee and he spent time with us in Velas waiting for the ferry. He is a great impromptu tour guide! He know quite a few of the islanders!
Cons: The rooms could use better reading lamps. And the internet was very weak to nonexistent downstairs.
7.1 Good
Pros: the size of the house and the furnishing
Cons: the communication was bad, most of the time they did'nt answer the phone and sms the bedroom in the cellar (it felt like that) was a bit creepy, the beds are rather hard
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is beautiful and well appointed. Our room had air conditioning which was very handy as it was warmer than expected when we visited. The property is generally unstaffed although someone was available by phone at most times. Communications with english speakers was not easy but greatly appreciated. The location is beautiful but remote from Velas.
Cons: This property was not where it was advertised to be as shown on booking sites. It's well on the other side of the airport from Velas. Our room, having stone walls was somewhat damp and had a bit of a odor. This bothered my wife more than me but was noticeable. The property is accessed via three separate keys, two of them are very large bladed keys for the front and back doors of the main building and one for our external room. These were difficult to use and very uncomfortable to carry. The keys and doors themselves were difficult to operate and open.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean, nice designed and on the top of all that the view of mountain pico!
Cons: Ideal for couples. Not for a friendfs that just traveling together (at least the room that we had)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! The house is wonderful! We were so lucky to have all the house for ourselves, and it was amazing. It's the perfect place to come with friends and enjoy the island life. The structure is really beautiful, perfectly equipped and with quality materials. My room had the bathroom of my dreams! Also the exterior is really well equipped, with oven and barbeque and a big table for dining.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Great location. Close to hikes and beautiful viewpoints. Amazing hostel...peaceful and great facilities. Really enjoyed my stay and found staff very warm which is important. A scooter/car is a must.
Cons: No correspondence prior to arrival. No response to queries but the stay made up for that.
7.5 Good
Pros: The view! Flexibility with breakfast time.
Cons: The information provided before the arrival was very bad. Very slow or no reply which makes it difficult to plan your arrival.
7.1 Good
Pros: We booked a twin room with private bathroom. Nice and clean room, daily cleaning, breakfast included. Parking available outside the hostel for free. Spacious lobby with couches and availability of computer for free. Useful kitchen available in the hostel, with fridge and other utilities. Amazing view on Pico island!
Cons: Wi-Fi was too weak in the room and did not work. The information material at the lobby was generic magazines about azores, without specific maps and info about sao Jorge. Breakfast was minimal but ok. Insufficient hangers in the room (for jackets and towels). Laundry service a bit expensive and not esable directly by the guests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place has a really nice view over Pico Island and a central location in the island. When we arrived was there a big group. We were afraid of the noise. The stuff arrange an alternativ and more confortable place for us, even for breakfast. No noise or disturbance during our stay. We are very very satisfied with the room and the stuff. Highly recommended
7.1 Good
Pros: Clean modern design of the hostel. Lovely view from the massive lounge windows. The value was quite good too.
Cons: Maybe it was because this 70 bed hostel was near-empty. But staying there felt like a 2019 reboot of The Shining. A strange soul-less vibe permeated. And all the younger staff gave the impression of wanting to be anywhere but. Not surprising I guess, as, it must be dull-as. Anyway, hence the low staff score. The breakfast offered, was pitiful, the most meagre of any I've encountered, in the dozen or so hostels I've stayed in the Azores. Made worse by absence of cold milk for the cereals. So literally, just bread rolls, cheese, ham, butter, coffee, tea, and small pot of hot milk. Yeah, so you might want to bring extras - big supermarket down the hill. Oh, and the self-catering kitchen was unreal: One mug for 70 guests. And just a two-ring hob. With two tables, and 8 chairs. Ladies and gentlemen, form an orderly queue. Oh, and you had to ask whenever you wanted a chopping knife. "Heeere's Johnny!"
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was PERFECT! Just wish I could’ve stayed longer! The view is just BEAUTIFUL! Location was amazing! There’s supermarkets, restaurants, the sea etc nearby. Staff was very helpful. The kitchen was very well equiped. Rooms were super modern and cozy. LOVE IT

Pros: Location
Cons: Breakfast is really poor. No eggs, bad juice, few things.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Breakfast is really poor. No eggs, bad juice, few things.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place. Breakfast was included in the price with good bread, some cheese, jam and ham which were good.
Cons: We would recommand to improve the drinks at breakfast without additional significant costs (eg the milk from the machine was cold, the orange juice appeared chemical and coeffe was very biter).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Amazing!
Cons: was all very good!

Cons: The information of the booking.com website was confusing. The description of the room mentioned 2 single beds but the information about the room showed a double bed. In reality the room had 2 beds so that was a disappointment

7.9 Good
Pros: Hotel next to the harbour, very centralised, good breakfast and nice staff.
Cons: The inly negative thing is that during my stay in the beginning of January it was very windy and cold weather so the room was very cold, i had to sleep with two extra blankets.
7.9 Good
Cons: I could hear almost everything in the hotel during the night, but otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The property is very clean, with a great location, friendly staff & a decent breakfast.
Cons: The rooms are noisy, walls are thin. In the closest bedroom to the entrance you’ll be disturb by the door that closes poorly and hits its frame on windy days/nights
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice balcony with lovely view
9.6 Excellent
Pros: staff-flexibility. could stay till late in the evening of the next day, offered by themselves! at 21.15 my boat went
Cons: nothing- at the most breakfast was not very much/special
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: See what I mentioned before.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything was fresh and locally produced and the hostess always smiling. Our room, as promised, had beautiful views over to Pico- a lovely sight to awaken to.
Cons: I would have liked coffee making facilities in the room as I am an early riser but my partner not. Breakfast was fine but the coffee not to my taste.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The rooms / bathrooms
Cons: Choice for breakfast is limited
5.0 Okay
Pros: the location is ok, a few minutes walk from downtown.
Cons: there is no-one in the reception so you have to call (as the buzzer doesn't work) and wait for someone to come and check you in. The room itself is small (which is ok) with a really really uncomfortable bed and pillows, but this is common for all places we stayed in the Azores. The real mess was that there is no AC, no fan and to open a window to get some air means you need to deal with yelling drunk neighbors until the middle of the night. And even then the breeze is not great. Breakfast was ok just to get you going, for this price I didn't expect anything better. This was really a night of suffering.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I enjoyed very much my stay at Residencia Livramento. The location is very good to explored Sao Jorge. I had a beautiful view from my balcony seeing Pico and especially the owner, Lydia, was very friendly and always helpful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice view from balcony on ocean and also on Pico even though it was in clouds. Wooden furniture. Very friendly and helpful owner. Welcoming basket with coffee which was very nice touch for us. Also water heater is great to make coffee and tee.
Cons: Maybe bathroom could be a little refreshed, but it is still good.
