Lets start with this - YOU NEED A 4X4 VEHICLE TO GET HERE!!! No ifs, no buts, if you choose to drive yourself there you will not get there without one. Once you do get there though you will just be blown away by the location, the greetings and just everything. When you check in you are greeted with a much needed drink, and assigned your own helper for the duration of your stay, I had the absolute pleasure of Xavier. An exceptional host who genuinely wants your stay to be the best it could be, his willingness to help, his local knowledge and general air of happiness are a joy to behold - a wonderful asset to the whole establishment. This does not mean the other staff are any less professional, they are all genuinely willing to help and are honestly the most pleasant crew of people I have ever seen within the hospitality industry ( I stay at least 100 nights per year in hotels across the world). The food is tremendous, this is seafood heaven ( and why not?). Don't expect your burger/pizza/hot dog straight out of the freezer rubbish, this menu is fresh, and I mean fresh. Each night you can sit at different tables around the hotel grounds if you choose, next to the pool, next to the sea, within the gardens or around the fire pit, the choice is yours and please do vary your tables, you won't regret it. Breakfast is generally taken by the pool but of you wish to do so you can eat on your own room porch area. During the day I lounged by the pool getting total relaxation, plenty of room in or out of the sun, again, your choice. On one of the days I went on a boat trip ( all organised by Xavier) and it was just outstanding. A short 30 mins or so boat ride across the sea you get to your first stop where you drop of the chef and all the equipment needed for cooking lunch, then you take a short hop across to another island to see the dunes (sand hills), words cannot describe the beauty so I won't bother - just go and see for yourself.
I loved it all - actually ran out of letters to finish off what I was saying.
Had a lovely 4 nights here.... slept, read, lay in the sun, walked the beach...this place is isolated on a lovely stretch of beach. If you’re looking for nightlife and hustle and bustle... this is not the place for you. I had the privilege of having XAVIER look after me and he was perfect... smiley, happy, caring, professional and super helpful! Thanks, XAVIER for looking after me! The beds are comfortable, and my room was kept super clean each day. The menu was right for me.... delicious and healthy!
Our host, Xavier was particularly friendly, helpful and attentive. He made our stay very enjoyable. The accommodation is very relaxing with a lovely pool overlooking the beach and sea. If you want to just chill out, it is a great spot.
The accommodation was a 15minute drive outside of the town and was only accessible by a 4x4. This meant you had to use the hotel's transportation which was very expensive. $10 USD each way per person to the town/airport. As the accommodation is out of town, you also end up eating in the on site restaurant. Food was nice but double the price of restaurants in the town. Our stay ended up being more expensive than planned. The manager of the property also informed us that our flight back to Maputo had been pushed forward by 2 hours and that we had to leave earlier than arranged. Our driver then told us that our flight had not changed but that he had to pick up other guests and it was easier to do a round trip. This meant we were at the airport almost 4 hours before our flight! We would have understood if this was explained to us but were very frustrated that we were mislead by the manager.
A very pleasant and well-managed hotel. We stopped here with the whole family (two adults and two small children) for three nights and we are very happy with this choice. The bungalows are comfortable and clean, the dishes in the hotel restaurant are tasty and in addition the hotel has its own motorboat and organizes trips to the islands. This is the last point of the long line of beach hotels in Vilankulos, so you can easily walk around and see villages of local farmers and fishermen within a short distance and observe their live.
The location is great (you can swim right in front of the lodge, unlike in other lodges in Vilankulos) and the staff was super friendly. We had dietary restrictions and they were very careful with all our meals. They were also very flexible in accommodating our check in and check out times.
Breakfast was a bit disappointing (you pay extra for it, but they ask for yet another extra charge for eggs or yogurt), and the downside of being in such as peaceful and secluded location is that you kind of have to eat here all your meals and the value for money at the restaurant is not great. The lodge can only be reached with a 4x4 and the transfer price is also quite high.
