Pros: The room was very nicely laid out, had a sofa and a balcony overlooking the yard and the lake. Very comfortable. Very good breakfast and friendly hosts.
Cons: The road was quite rough in both directions, and restaurants were far in either direction. Wish I’d realized ahead of time that we could have ordered dinner there.
Cons: The water came out of the bath so slowly, it took over 20 minutes for the tub to fill. The shower curtain also fell off and we couldn’t put it back on.
Cons: Very remote
Cons: The Inn was hard to find. The room was nice but probably a little overpriced. Breakfast was very good. We would stay there again.
Pros: Very clean and gorgeously beautifully located. The drive way is long - you‘re not lost! Spectacular view, very quiet, great home cooked breakfast.
Cons: You get to choose a time slot for breakfast, which doesn‘t seem very flexible but in the end, it‘s not really that strict and the quality of the food is well worth it.
Pros: We had a large, beautifully appointed, quiet room on the lake. The hosts were friendly and attentive, but not at all intrusive. The whirlpool tub was welcoming after having stayed st several more rustic accommodations on the Cabot Trail. Breakfast was set in fine style with linen tablecloths and silver tea service. The food was beautifully served and delicious- our favorite of the entire trip.
Cons: We liked everything about our stay!
Pros: What a beautiful bed and breakfast and property. Elizabeth and Keith were very cordial and had a wealth of knowledge about the area and wildlife. My partner and I stayed in the MacDonald Room, which had a stunning view of the Lake Ainslie from our balcony where we were delighted to see an eagle circling above. The furniture and decor were tastefully selected, and the bed was divine. Such a peaceful place. And the breakfast was fresh and delicious. Wonderful hosts!
Cons: Not having lake access from the property was mildly disappointing.
Pros: There was a view of the lake and the yard had lovely flowers. The room had a porch with seating to enjoy the view.
Cons: It was off the beaten path which worked for us. 25 minute ride to get to a restaurant.
Pros: Beautiful and spacious room. Hosts were great!
Cons: It was a long drive from the highway but worth the wait!!!
Situated in Aberdeen, Bear on the Lake Guesthouse has a garden, shared lounge, BBQ facilities, and free WiFi. The accommodation features a shared kitchen, and luggage storage for guests. The hostel offers a sun terrace. The area is popular for hiking and cycling, and bike hire is available at Bear on the Lake Guesthouse.
Pros: Very nice property. Much nicer inside than the outside of the property might lead you to believe. Everything was very clean with nice amenities.
Pros: View is amazing. Warm. Comfy lounge area. Well stocked kitchen. Netflix. Friendliest most helpful staff.
Pros: I liked that I was the 1st guest of 2019 and had the dorm all to myself for the 1st night of my stay. The view whist eating breakfast and dinner was one to remember. I'd stay here again.
Cons: Can't think of anything. This is cheap accommodation in a prime location. Be happy and enjoy the what's good.
Pros: A beautiful place with an amazing view of the lake. The rooms are spacious and have the furniture they need. A nice kitchen and outdoor space.
Cons: The beds the beds where uncomfortable in the dorm I slept in.
Pros: Absolutely wonderful place - this got to be one of the nicest hostels I ever stayed in, a big modern house with fantastic views over the lake and all the space and equipment you might need! The owner was lovely, and the place is a great base to stop over to / from the Cabot Trail or explore the lakes (a really underrated area, it's very beautiful!!)
Pros: Everything was perfect about this little place. First, it was well announced on the road when you come from the mainland. Up the hill, the house overlooks the lake and you can watch the hummingbirds (or whatever species... I have no idea) fly from tree to tree. The place has all the facilities you need: full equipped kitchen, TV, board games, laundry room if you need it, a barbecue. It’s spotless. The owner is charming, she’ll give you the advice you need but will also give you space. They say the company makes the trip: I met wonderful people during my stay, and ended up driving the cabot trail with two semi-locals who acted as my guides (and driving directions saviors!). Some people from Quebec, Ontario, a German family... all in all a wonderful stay. You’re in the middle of the island, so pretty great place if you want to stay at one place and do day trips. There’s just a good vibe about this place!
Cons: I liked everything. When I come back to Cape Breton, I’m staying there.
Pros: The hostel was exactly what I needed to set off on the Cabot trail. It's conveniently located and even has a great view off the porch. Parking is available and a big kitchen for your use. Beds were comfy and everyone got along well since we're all in that hiking mindset
Cons: Just one bathroom for the dorms, but it's a great one!
Pros: I did stay in the private room, small room but bed really comfi.
Cons: Close to highway
Pros: The property is perfectly located to start the Cabot Trail. The rooms are very clean and the private room is larger then expected. We changed our travel plans and weren’t able to stay the last night. The owner gave us half our money back even though they didn’t have to. It was easy to get to know the other guest with the common areas. They also had Netflix on the TV for when you want a relaxing night. Honestly can’t say enough good things about this place.
Pros: The place is very beautiful, very clean everywhere, extremely comfortable and Nancy was a delight! The places proximity to the Cabot trail is perfect
With a stay at Fair Isle Motel in Whycocomagh, you'll be 0.1 mi (0.1 km) from Bras d'Or Lake and 23.8 mi (38.2 km) from Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. Featured amenities include luggage storage and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Great place to use as a "base camp" for viewing the Cabot trail and the rest of Cape Breton....Pet friendly for sure....lots of open space for a little pug dog to check out...the drip coffee sucked but that was all that did....the rest of the deal was above average for sure....friendly folks....great seafood joint nearby.....with a 10% discount offered for those who stay here...Indian village...laid back....and quiet despite being located on the major road through the center of the island.... comfortable....quiet ....reasonably priced....good deal!
Cons: The affore mentioned coffee tasted like mud....but mercifully,! there's a Tim's located right down the street!
Pros: Good location to access hikes. It appeared to be a motel for fishermen. There was a huge windstorm that knocked out the power and we had to scramble around in the dark. But that added to the adventure.
Cons: We traveled in off season and there was only one restaurant open nearby. The beds could have been comfier.
Pros: Perfect place for this trip, close to functions, clean....appliances in the room appreciated
Pros: Everything was comfortable. We arrived at night and stayed on a weekend so there was not a lot of staff around but telephone staff was very friendly
Cons: No vanity in the bathroom was inconvenient
Pros: i thought the room was outstanding and Christine the desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. It felt safe and comfortable. We have never been to this region before, so that was important to us.
Cons: The area didn't have a lot of choices for dining. The pre-season time we visited may have been a factor, and we arrived fairly late(7pm) after a hard day of driving and had really only one choice. While it was wholesome food - no liquor license which was a little discouraging. Christine suggested buying wine at the Co-op and having it after dinner. That worked out quite well!
Pros: It was a completely renovated room
Cons: No hairdryer. The taps. You had to push and hold either hot or cold, wash one hand at a time, and force of water was strong and uncontrollable. The guest who stays in this luxury king is unlikely to be the sort who deliberately leaves the water running.
Pros: Desk staff was great. Room was nice.
Cons: Wi-Fi was incredibly slow..
Pros: Great parking
Pros: Fridge and microwave provided. Nice view
Cons: Beds were a little soft for us
Aberdeen Motel features free Wi-Fi throughout the property. Overlooking the Bras d'Or Lake, each room is simply furnished and enjoys a microwave and mini fridge. Fitted with carpeted flooring, they offer a satellite TV and coffee maker. Air conditioning and heating are also included. On site facilities include a children’s playground and picnic tables. Guests can also use the on-site laundry facilities. Aberdeen Motel is a 1-hour drive from Sydney Airport. Cabot Trail is at a distance of 20 km. Parking is provided at no additional cost.
Pros: They were helpful, by allowing us to do our laundry!!!
Cons: No hair dryer.
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: We booked for a queen bed, but were offered a double. But the room was big enough we were able to blow up our air mattress we brought for camping. So it wasn’t a deal breaker. If we didn’t bring our own mattress it would have been. The bed was kinda outdated as well.
Pros: It is in a great area, to travel from. The people and staff are very friendly. The room was clean and well kept. Great restaurants in the area.
Cons: The bathroom was a little small. Pillows need to be changed.
Pros: The room was clean, comfortable, private and the staff was exceedingly friendly and accommodating.
Pros: Great place to be to drive the Cabot Trail.
Cons: Motel room had some electrical issues.
Pros: Didn't have breakfast, supplied our own. Accessing the motel driving east was very dangerous. There is no left turning lane on the highway. We had to wait on the highway in the only lane until those exiting the motel moved out and an on-coming vehicle had passed, In the meantime a tractor trailer came behind us at highway speed and, without slowing, passed between us and the ditch side of the road. This presented a very dangerous situation for us and there was nothing we could do except hope we wouldn't be killed. A left turning lane would have made all the difference. This not a criticism of the motel but of the government for allowing this dangerous situation to exist.
Cons: See above.
Pros: Nothing fancy, but everything worked and was very clean
Pros: Good size room. Great shower.
Pros: The location for our travel plans.
Cons: Beds were unsleepable. Bruised the backs of our legs on the worn out mattress. No one there to answer bell to ck us in . Did not like the office bell to get help. Only 2 towels in 4 person paid room.
Pros: Nice, clean, and pretty centrally located on Cape Breton Island. Easy check out
Cons: Next to a major road, so it could be loud if a tractor trailer came by, which wasn’t that often, and the water temperature often fluctuated.
