Visit Palace food and drink cost
The location is excellent. Right on the main street in the delightful village of Woodstock. There are a lot of super eating places around every corner. We did have lunch on the first day of our stay. Lets just stay that it did not inspire us to book dinner for either evening. Try to make sure that byou do not have anyone sleeping in a room above you - the creaking will keep you awake.
Its position in the town; furnishings of a high standard, staff very well presented. Although many foreign staff all spoke English of a very high standard. I think the costs of breakfast there is excessive, really. The bar area could do with freshening up a bit.
Location nr Blenheim Palace and central of Woodstock; Staff were excellent in dealing with a booking error; room was newly furnished; food was great We booked a four poster bed room; which wasn't available- we'd been allocated a standard room - error in their processing- staff quickly rectified by finding us an exec suite and adding breakfast and £20 off bill; bathroom was very cold - mentioned that at checkout; chimney fire at 5.25am meant that we have to vacate our room in -5 degC temps
Beautiful setting, lovely surroundings, good food and friendly staff. Accommodation clean and comfortable.
Our room number 6 was fantastic, extremely cosy and value for money.
Fine old building with lots of charachter. Staff helpful and friendly Very pricy for the room we had which was basic and we could hear clearly all of the activity in the next room. Prices of the mini bar are outrageous-also a dinner of modest proportions came to over £90 for two.
I booked the Blenheim package, when I arrived and was shown to the room, was suprised to be given the Marlborough Suite, which was awseome. With a seperate lounge, two plasma screen t.v.,s and a wonderful four poster bed. What a lovely suprise. We used the dining room in the evening, and had a deliscious 3 course meal with wine. What a lovely treat, can,t wait to return, especially as at Blenheim they turned our tickets into annual passes free of charge, so will definatelly be visiting again.
The fact that we were within walking distance to Blenheim Palace. Apart from that we used the Hotel as a stopping off place on our journey south and nothing else. We dined out at another restaurant in Woodstock because we did not fancy the menu at the Bear.
the bedroom there was a big coach party in the breakfast room we had to wait 10 minutes to be seated and the noise was dreadful with people standing close to our table carrying on conversations. not relaxing at all. this hotel is over-trading on its facilities.
Breakfast Our room lacked a view
Great food, excellent service, lovely room, free Wi Fi connection Far too hot, no fresh air, no mobile signal
Excellent position relative to Blenheim Palace and Oxford. Attentive staff and a first class restaurant. Lack of air conditioning in higher level rooms. Hot air tended to rise up the stair well.
Superb Food Excellent receotion service Room was a little hot
Good location. Excellent food.
The ambience and service All fine
excellent english country hotel food is good but breakfast should be better.
Very comfortable room, loved the jelly beans! Bathroom a little cold and no proper mirror.
Rooms, esp bathrooms very tatty. Wallpaper peeling, paint in need of refreshing, bathrooms very tired and tacky. Food ordinary. Luggage service non-existent. Price extorionate for what was offered. Unimpressed
Brilliant range of continental and English breakfast in a nice setting. Really nice staff and good service. The room is better than the five star Randolph hotel in the Oxford city centre, and has a decent size en-suite bathroom. A pot of green tea for two in the afternoon was £6.50 in the back garden, although we had the garden all to ourselves that afternoon. There was no lifts in the hotel but we did leave our baby's pram at the reception.
Staff helpful, friendly and 100% willing to help. Food excellent and great value. superb.
The staff were t.he best part as they were so friendly and the food was lovely sheets and blankets on the bed rather than duvet
Breakfast was excellent.
enjoyed dinner and breakfast and friendlyness of the manager and staff - enjoyed the open fire place - hotel was easy to find located a little too far out of Woodstock which meant we had to use the car to visit Windsor central as opposed to leaving the car and walking we didn't realise this at the time of booking - also free WIFI only worked in the bar area not in your room - no real problem but just a little inconvenient
Friendly and helpful staff
The staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough to help. They booked taxi's and recommended local places. The local area is amazing, definitely worth a trip
Nothing It was a motel with small dowdy rooms attached to a pub. breakfast in the bar. It is 1.8 miles from the centre of Woodstock. Not worth the AA stars.
There was ample parking, the room was clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. we were visiting Blenheim Palace so the Hotel was within easy reach (3min) of Woodstock and the Palace.
friendly helpful staff, good beer. noisy pipework
Great value for money.
The restaurant food was very poor. Bar food not much better.
Pleasant setting with an impressive approach The room was too condensed
The decoration of the rooms downstairs and the hall ways the room was very small end badly apointed
Beautiful location and grounds. Stunning main building but not all the accomocation is available in the main building. The hotel is not really set up to cater for individuals visting. It is more of a conference centre. The evening meal was a buffet style with 3 choices and based on what the wedding party next door were having! The ambience of the restaurant was more canteen than restaurant. Having said this, if you asked staff for anything, they were happy to provide it.
The beauty of the surrounding countryside and the magnificence of the hotel itself.
Elegant calm atmosphere; welcoming helpful staff. Really an oasis of tranquility.
The overal immpression initially was good. The food was very acceptable although the evening meal menu was rather limited. The beds!! although the mattress in the first room I used looked fairly new it was poor quality with little comfort offered. After complaining in the morning nothing changed so coplained again was moved to another room which had a marginally better mattress.
Stunning building with wonderful grounds and great breakfast and updated room. Nothing
the location the duvet was stained had to ask them to change it. mirrow light in bathroom didnt work. double glazing panes not on window but up against wall. ivy from outside growing inside through windows. radio on all of the time in the bar not giving us any peace. expensive for what you got.
Great oldy worldy hotel but needs modernisation of bathroom facilities. Its situation in Woodstock makes it very convenient for visiting Blenheim Palace and Oxford. Good quality full english breakfast served by polite staff. Dont book into room one its over the stairwell and you can hear all the noise from the bar below until 12.30 ish at night. Plus when the windows are open you get all the smoke from outside below where people stand at the door. We asked to be moved on the second night.
Clean, relaxed, homely & historic. Lovely big room. Breakfast was included but cooked option didn't appear fresh-likely been sitting on hot plate for a while.
Historic Could do with bigger portions of cooked breakfast,as not all like cereal beforehand.
Very friendly staff, good food, excellent location in town. A very enjoyable experience.
Nice ambiance, attractive historic building, friendly staff My chair leg slid down a huge crack in the bar floor at breakfast time - in an old building things like this are always possible so repairs have to be done in a timely manner.
The food, the relaxed atmosphere and very good, friendly staff. The power shower wasn't particularly good but hardly a bad point
The room was big and the shower room was well appointed. The breakfast was good Although the shower room was very nice it could have done with a power shower as it was a deluxe room We had to ask for a heater as the radiator was not on and didnt come on during our stay .The traffic noise was verybad .we could here too much of what was going onin other rooms!!!
Delightful premises and comfortable , spacious room providing an excellent nights sleep . ample breakfast . Staff were very pleasant by very amateur and senior staff almost casual . The common areas could certainly do with a bit of maintenance and decoration . a request for a snack in the evening was met with the reply that the kitchen was closed early because they had a large party in for a meal ; an offer of something modest would have been nice , rather than peanuts before bed !
Excellent Staff No Power Shower
we liked the ambience , the locality, food was exellent and Fabienne is great .
Friendly and relaxed atmosphere
People running the hotel were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
Very friendly and peaceful. Just what we wanted.
Really nice pub adjoining accomodation, food was 5*.
Absolutely lovely! To be honest we were just expecting a pub however it is on a lovely, middle of nowhere feeling road in the countryside and the hosts could not have been more welcoming. Food was great!!!!! Easy and no fuss. Would definitely recommend!
Very good food - very friendly proprieter and staff. Went to great trouble to provide something not on menu for Breakfast.Wouod definitely want to stay there again. Room (in block outside main building) was on the dark side and felt chilly on arrival (Warm day outside) but soon warmed up. Could do with an easy chair in room.
A lovely welcome and very good food. There was a band on on the Saturday night which was very popular. There was a lot of local 'character' which was fun. The rooms are looking a bit tired and some attention to detail is needed. The shower curtain in my room was full of mould and the floor in the bedroom needed a good vacuuming. The valances on the beds needed ironing. There was a lot of noise as people were going home from the pub after the band had finished playing.
Country Inn approach, very personal and good evening entertainment.
Very friendly staff and good food. The pleasant garden was suitable for adults and children to enjoy. The steep outside steps to our room
you felt a relaxed atmosphere, no rushing around. it was great.
Absolutely the best, most beautiful hotel we have stayed at in the UK. Wonderful restaurant and wonderful food as well as service. Keep up the good work. Highly recommend your hotel. No
facilities breakfast good evening meal portions small for the price
Good facilities, good food in restaurant, good room and friendly staff. Good location for shopping in Oxford and visiting the Cotswolds
Comfortable room with good facilities,a very good meal with very effici.ent and friendly service no lift
Reception staff were helpful and room and bed were spacious.
Friendly staff at meal time, plenty of car parking, ideally situated for A40 Swimming pool far too small
peace and quiet and the location Choice of dining menu and the cost.
The size of the room was great. Food was value for money from the bar, the breakfast was good and extensive. Nothing major
I liked the helpful staff in the restaurant who worked extremely hard on the sturday evening of our stay. I stayed in room 121 which was awful and i have complained personally to Diane Cornish the sales manager and i have yet to have the courtesy of a reply to my comments.
lovely location, good restaurant
The reception and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and welcoming The setting is delightful and the food in the restaurant was very good. Our bath room was very cold - no apparent heating and interesting though the high ceilings are, there was a draught. This did not spoil our stay but if the weather had been colder it might have done.
Location Staff and service
Character hotel. Standard room very small, we stayed in the barn conversion annexe, room was very small with single glazed window which was very noisy. It felt as if we were staying in a beach hut. There was a noise in the pipes which kept us awake most of the night. Also we had to travel to a nearby pub as the restaurant(which is another pub a minute) away was full, priority to guests with bb and e meal.
We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The first room was extremely hot, we spoke to reception who offered us another room without hesitation. The restaurant is excellent both for breakfast & dinner. After eating there the first night we definitely wanted to on our second night but forgot to book. So after a day out and about came back to hear it was fully booked being Saturday. However the staff were brilliant and said they would manage to squeeze us in and we weren't disappointed, the steak was perfect along with everything else! Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds and setting. Will definitely go back.
Setting and location excellent. Public rooms nice Scandinavian type rooms (118) were very very small. Little wardrobe and storage space. Walls were paper thin. We could hear neighbours even when they were whispering and using bathroom! Flight path from nearby RAF base. No double galzing. It was clear the accommodation was geared to single people on conferences/workshops. Massive disappointmant!
The lovely village location and splendid grounds, the roaring fires and tasteful country house feel. The restaurant was a little disorganised. Four people took our orders and served us and the co-ordination was lacking and the service was therefore slow. Why not allocate given tables to specific waiting staff?
Lovely setting, staff very friendly. Lovely meal. There were no biscuits on the hospitality tray.
The hotel grounds and local area The fact they have a two tier system where guests staying at the Old Swan get dining reservation preferences and their own roped off lounge area that the Minster guests cannot use
Big clean rooms, large bathrooms with a wet room shower. Great food and a nice atmosphere.
Freidnly staff, excellent food, very nice clean modern room My only minor gripe if there where no walk in shower or shower screen on freestanding bath. The one benefit was I had a really nice soak in the large bath.
Beautiful and quite just outside oxford with a bus stop almost every 30 minutes going into town.
The food was fantastic
Comfortable, good atmosphere, convenient for Oxford.
very pleasent room, with lovely fresh cooked food in pub
The dinner menu and the breakfast was very good. The staff were friendly and bar area was traditional. The bed was a bit soft.
Bed was uncomfrtable. Kettle did not work
excellent location, accomodation, hospitality and food The breakfast was very good, but you had to make a choice by means of a menu. You could also limit the choice with a buffet, but the guest would now free to take what and how much he wants.
Food was excellent. Room was comfortable For a superior room, the bathroom needed updating and the room initially was cold
Good food, comfortable spacious room and ideally situated near to RAF Brize Norton.
nothing particularly stands out - rooms were comfortable but not special, food was mostly good. Waiting staff were attentive owner / manager has a rather abrupt manner which can be off putting, Breakfast portions are small and do not justify the £9.95 price tag. Cheese board portions also small - I have seen bigger Dairy Lea triangles!
Convenient and very quiet. there were no other facilities in the vicinity so you are a captive audience. As a consequence, the prices for drinks etc were very high.
Relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff, excellent food.
We were attending a wedding at the Fleece and this was ideally located. We requested a quiet room due to previous reviews about noise from the front, we were put in the annex in a newly decorated room. No issues with parking. Overall this hotel was ok, nothing special. Although the room was newly decorated the bathroom wasn't, there were 2 bad mis-spellings on the towel instructions in the bathroom which summed up the hotel really, lack of attention to detail. Remote control didn't work, bad reception on the 5 channels, really early breakfast (8:30 finish is far too early if you're on holiday), adequate breakfast but a lack of choice.
tea coffee in rooms the 'hot' breakfast was served before we had finished the cereal. It could have been hotter
Nice clean hotel and ideal central location in Witney. Breakfast service each morning was utterly hopeless.
Excellent evening meal
Comfortable bed and good food Limited car parking
lamb shank evening meal poor. good cooked breakfast.
I booked two rooms - 1 family room and 1 single room. The family room was spacious and comfortable. However, the single room was not very clean and there was evidence of damp - it was not satisfactory. There was also a lot of noise from the neighbouring bars on the Saturday night and whilst the Marlborough is not in a position to have any control of this it did mean that we got very little sleep until after 4am on the Sunday morning.
Staff were helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast
food options, central location noisy room, needs triple glazing
Staff very friendly and helpful Rooms and facilities perhaps a bit tired...
