Pros: Staff and Food
Pros: The experience, the nature walks outside, common areas such as lounge, dinning room, friendly staff, food and breakfast.
Cons: 1. The changing room and shower facilities, there needs to be more to cater for all the guests. 2. The Ice Hotel in Sweden is posh compared to this one, it is lot bigger better bar and sculptures and suites
Pros: Dina was amazing, she arranged the finer details for me so I could propose to my girlfriend (she said yes
Pros: It provided an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience. Very happy we did it but won't don't need to sleep on an ice bed again.
Pros: Amazing experience must do, great on bucket list great staff and food
Pros: The experience is something indescribable...great staff, always keen to help you in every aspect of your stay.
Cons: Great experience, I think sauna should be open and working all day Long but not only certain time of the day.
Pros: Omg…amazing location, ice hotel was just surreal, beautiful. Staff/owner very friendly and proud of their establishment. Food was AMAZING. Outside activities to do on your own was fun. We had a great time. Atmosphere relaxing and cosy.
Cons: Ok even though I knew I was sleeping on a piece of ice I think it could be warmer. Just providing sleeping bags on top of deer hides is not everyone's cup of tea. Having doonas available and other blankets would enhance the experience. Nothing worse than being curled up in a ball for the night. That’s why I don’t go camping in winter.
Pros: We stayed here for one night whilst visiting Alta on a cruise ship to see the Northern Lights. Situated on the Alta River, it is approximately 22 kilometres out of the Alta town centre. A very expensive place, in accommodation, food (approx 400 NOK for main course at dinner) and drink (200 NOK for a shot of vodka in the Ice Bar), it was a once in a lifetime experience that we could not let slip by. The ship shuttle dropped us in town and we were picked up close by at the Scandic Hotel by one of the owners, Hans. The complex is well set up with all facilities (Lounge, dining room, lockers, bathroom and toilets) situated in the very well heated main building. The Ice Hotel has two coridoors housing the bedrooms, with a chapel and an ice bar opposite the accommodation wing. There were also a number of ice carvings and wall art created to this years theme, The Vikings. There is nothing in your ice bedroom.....except for an ice bed with a mattress and some reindeer skins on top. There is nowhere to hang or store anything......all that must be left inside the main building and you have to sleep with your jacket, as if it is left out, it will freeze and ice up. Sleeping bags made for -30 weather and pillows are provided. The ice hotel and bedrooms are kept at a constant -5 degrees, whereas, when we were there, the outside temperature was -22, so it was quite noticable how "warmer" it was inside the ice hotel. There are 31 bedrooms (including 4 "suites") and when we were there, there were only 4 couples, including us, staying the night. We wore thermal underwear and a couple of layers on our torsos, as well as 3 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of gloves and a woollen hat to bed. We were quite snug and warm in the sleeping bags, although we had 4 sleeping bags. It wasn't the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in, but it was on a slab of ice!!!! Sleep wise.......we got a couple of hours in.
Cons: Everything was very expensive. When 95% of the hotel is empty, I am surprised we weren't upgraded. Another couple who booked the same type of room as was.
Pros: I stayed one night in exclusive suite Oden , The idea of this hotel Is wonderful and certainty this is what you brings here. ice decoration and lighting is great and try open hot tube in cold temp.
Cons: I stayed one night in exclusive suite #22 Oden , for one night. 1- don't expect any one assist you to have a pleasant stay in ice room. 2- you should find your way by your own, no one assist us how to prepare the sleeping bag nor how to set two piece together, even any recommendation for enjoyable sleep at -3 c. I am not happy with Un-helpful staff at all, when they can share their experience with guests to make their staying more comfortable. honestly I am really disappointed. 3- other services like snowmobiling or dog sliding are double times expensive than other similar offers. 4- price and services are not fair and not reasonable. come here just to visit, take some photos and that's. enough .
10 km from Alta City and 500 metres from Alta River lies Trasti & Trine´s Lodge. Surrounded by forest, the location offers good hiking, skiing and biking trails straight from the cottage door. There is both free WiFi and free on-site parking. Trasti & Trine´s Lodge also includes a sun terrace and plenty of room outside for children to play. The accommodation offers both rooms and a cottage. Local and organic food has a big value at Trasti & Trine, where homemade organic breakfasts and culinary dinner experiences are offered by their chefs on request. There is dog yard with 60 Alaskan huskies, not far from the cottage. Guests are welcome to go into the kennel and in the summer puppies are very happy for the extra attention. The nearest airport is Alta Airport, 11 km from the property.
Pros: Everything was amazing. The breakfast was outstanding, all the staff were helpful and super nice. The location was pure perfection. Quiet, serene and beautiful. We got to hike over the lake to Sorrisniva and the igloo hotel which is a must. Johnny and Trine are amazing hosts and I can't wait to visit again.
Cons: I would suggest they offer transfers from and to the airport as the taxis are very expensive. We spent a lot on taxis getting to the city and the airport.
Pros: Food is very good - must eat experience.
Cons: Personnel was not so friendly. When we arrived, they just showed us the room without interacting too much and then left. We had the same unfriendly experience on checkout.
Pros: The lodge is simply wonderful.Lovingly decorated, Johnny and Trine are wonderful hosts, the dinner and breakfast breathtaking!! So sorry, we only stayed for a night.
Cons: Everything just Perfect !
Pros: Great location to experience dog sledding, Nordkapp, Northern light and tasty norwegian food !!! During my visit in March 2019 I enjoyed watching the Finmarkslopet, the longest dog race in Europe. The owners and guides can tell you all about about this race. Loved waking up with howling huskies and enjoyed the great breakfast to start the day. A night time dog sledding experience was very special ! With a lucky Northern lights viewing above the location during one of the country style dining occasions made this and all the above a holiday to remember.
Pros: The room was spacious and you have a shared balcony with an amazing view of the husky farm and the property. Breakfast is prepared with fresh food and specially local baked bread! If you like huskies, this is a great opportunity to be close to them.
Cons: Staff could be more friendly and give more information about the property and, specially, the available tours. Staff is very involved in preparing the husky tours for the tourists and the restaurant. The photos of the double room can be a little tricky because you actually share the living room part (table, balcony and very small kitchen) with another double room. The "kitchen" is microwave, sink and a small fridge. Moreover, it must be noted that the bathroom is outside the room which can be a little awkward and these rooms are located over the kitchen and restaurant.
Pros: We are a family of four that stayed for one night at Trasti & Trine’s Lodge and we hade an absolute fantastic time! The setting is wonderful and the Huskys were so appreciated by our kids that they never wanted to leave. The facilities was clean and the site was well thought through and beautiful. If you’re staying here you really should eat here as well, the food was absolutely fantastic! Overall one of our best night ever, and we would have loved to stay longer if it was possible.
Cons: Nothing really, but if you’re easily awakened you might get disturbed by the occasional howling by the Huskys during the night but it didn’t bother us at all.
Pros: Stayed 1 night on the way to Nordkapp Very pleasant place at husky dog's farm Clean and comfortable place, can park car in front of entrance to the farm stayed on 2nd floor there is 2 rooms, 1 for each guest (or couple) and every room has own toilet/shower room (actually next door to the room's entrance so might be a bit awkward going from room to toilet/bath but its personal, dont have to share with other guest and distance just door to door) in the middle between rooms its like public space (only to use for guests of one of 2 rooms, so more private than public) with sofa, mini kitchen and balcony from which a very nice view on farm actually all place feels like some fairy tale farm i had some associations with video game "skyrim" extremely comfortable area around is very pleasant, i suggest to have a little walk to the river nearby - views is amazing all place feels very healthy and bio I think staying here (if could afford ;) ) for week or two can really have positive affect on physical and mental health
Cons: very expensive dinner, price was not told upfront (I should have asked) and paying almost 100 euro per person for dinner is really a lot even tho it was very tasty and classy if you hate dogs you might feel uncomfortable in the place although you dont have to communicate with them if you dont want, they are in its own aviary behind the fence and maximum can be a bit loud at times, but didnt bother me at all
Pros: Beautiful lodge in the middle of the woods. Our room was amazing! And Johny and Trine has great taste. food and the wine list is excellent as well.
Pros: We loved everything about our stay at the lodge. We stayed in the log cabin which gave us plenty of space and a log burner which was much appreciated when the sun went down after lunch. The logs were also free! The breakfast was delicious, so much to choose from and all fresh. They also catered for both of us as a vegan/meat eater couple. We ate at the restaurant one night and again the food was lovely. It feels like you are at home, very relaxing. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed meeting the dogs, especially the puppies! The location is good as it is close to good northern lights viewing spots. We will definitely be back!
Cons: Nothing, we couldn't fault it at all! There are working dogs on site so be aware the dogs do sometimes howl in the night, however we didn't find it a problem at all.
Situated in northern Norway’s Finnmark region, this motel is just off the E6 Motorway, 1 km from central Alta. It offers free Wi-Fi and modern rooms with a private bathroom and kitchenette. Cooking hobs, tea/coffee facilities and a fridge are provided in each Bårstua Gjestehus room. All include a seating area with TV and a fresh tiled bathroom with shower. Car rental is available on site, as well as BBQ equipment and free private parking. Nordlysbadet, an indoor water park, and Alta Church are both 1.5 km from Bårstua. Other area activities include canoeing, fishing and hiking Komsa Mountain.
Pros: Beautiful place to stay in this area, wonderful hosts - we really enjoyed our overnight stay and can imagine to come back to stay for longer! Everything clean and comfortable!
Pros: Warm, welcoming owners and a wonderful guesthouse. The heated floor in the bathroom is really nice. The room was well furnished with a table in the kitchenette area as well as chairs. The windows have a nice view of the trees across from the road. The location is a short walk to the city center, and there is also a close bus stop. The guesthouse environment was cozy and quiet. I absolutely recommend staying here when in Alta.
Pros: Very nice location, well equipped
Cons: Payment by cash and not card.
Pros: + Well equipped kitchen + New furniture + Easy check-in and check-out
Pros: Everything is nice, especially the owner is very helpful . Great stay
Pros: On the main road, close to parks, nice place for running. Nice small kitchen, and bedroom.
Cons: The TV set did not work, even I have asked for support - it did not help.
Pros: Size and cleanliness of room, cooking facilities, location
Cons: Inefficient (low) lighting
Pros: Fully equipped, comfortable, space rooms (with small kitchen!). The owners are really nice and eager to help if any questions. We arrived late but they still waited for us.
Cons: Nothing special
Pros: The host was very friendly and helpful. The room was beyond what I expected, very clean and tidy. The bed and bedding were very cosy and the room was warm. Would stay there again when visiting Alta, fantastic place!
With a stay at Thon Hotel Alta, you'll be centrally located in Alta, just a 3-minute walk from Northern Lights Cathedral and 11 minutes by foot from Alta Church. Featured amenities include a business center, a 24-hour front desk, and multilingual staff.
Pros: This hotel surprised me, since I thought it might be a bit soulless, but the modern decor is actually quite warm. Finished to a very good standard and spotlessly clean. Fantastic breakfast. Although not cheap, the high standard makes it good value.
Cons: No complaints.
Pros: This message is for the front office staff, especially Thomas. Thank you very much for bailing me out today. I forgot my jacket containing my passport at the hotel and Thomas delivered to me personally at the airport - almost missed my flight!
Cons: Lack of recreational facilities
Pros: Great location and nicely unexpected: the bathroom floor was heated!
Pros: The room had a great view of the Cathedral of the Northern Lights and was clean, warm and very comfortable with a useful mini kitchen and plenty of storage space. Breakfast was an impressive array of choices. The staff were delightful and called me by name which was very sweet.
Pros: The beds were a little soft and on the small side but the rooms were very nice
Cons: Unfriendly, apathetic staff. Checked me in a room facing a wall & rooftop with two maintenance workmen drilling all day, looking through window. Receptionist shrugged it off that they couldn't climb in. Was told I'd get a breakfast bag when I checked out at 5am. Rude male receptionist told me to wait outside for my cab and didn't give me any breakfast bag. Ordered a taxi who charged me twice what I paid from airport. Room had few dim light fixtures. Contolled central heating. Preferred other hotel around corner.
Pros: Breakfast was very good and the attention to detail as well. Staff very friendly and efficient.
Cons: We were very happy with our stay at your hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it to our friends.
Pros: The service:-)
Pros: very noisy room, refrigerator is too noisy, vouldn’t sleep.
Cons: service is poor
Pros: We had a beautiful view on the church and a kitchenette. There are some equipments, not much but enough if you want to cook simple stuffs. The bed was comfortable, the room very clean. The breakfast was one of the best I' ve ever got in a hotel! It's a good place even if the staff is a bit cold in my opinion.
Cons: The parkings around the hotel are expensive, the reception suggested a deal: 45€ for 3 days. Because we were out most of the time, we managed to pay only 8€ for total.
Overlooking the Altafjord, this hotel is located in Alta's old town. In addition to spa facilities, it offers regional cuisine and rooms with free Wi-Fi access. Alta Airport is 6 km away. Each modern guest room at Altafjord Gjestegaard & Spa features stylish décor, as well as a TV and comfortable armchairs. Altafjord Gjestegaard’s restaurant uses fresh, local produce in its dishes. Guests can try typical Northern Norwegian dishes such as Arctic char fish, reindeer and king crab. The on-site pub features sealskin seat covers and a cosy atmosphere. Relaxation options at Gjestegaard Altafjord include a bookable sauna and hot tub. The communal terrace overlooks the water and is ideal for an evening drink. Guests might even see the Midnight Sun or Northern Lights.
Pros: The armchairs in the room were so comfortable! Also the restaurant and relaxing room was fabulous! Great food! Can recommend the reindeer!”
Pros: Breakfast was great!
Cons: Receptionist struck me as a little bit cold and nonchalant. But perfectly professional and still polite.
Pros: The brilliant and the best breakfast I've had in all of Norway. Heavily varied and tasty. Beautiful interior design, great cuisine - I recommend fish soup - it's expensive but you can treat it like a main course and it's very good. Very nice view from the window and great location. I recommend highly.
Cons: The kitchenette in our room was ugly and old, spoiled the atmosphere of the room - I recommend it to be removed and it will be great :-)
Pros: Excellent breakfast. Quirky, out of the ordinary, wonderful location, _Plenty of places to sit and relax. Large bedroom which could have been improved with small things like hooks to hang clothes. Overall we enjoyed the quirkiness and would be very happy to return any time. Easy walk along the road to the bus stop with frequent service to the centre of Alta (make sure everyone visits the amazing new Cathedral) and the museum with excellent displays and walks around the very early rock carving sites. Very peaceful break - wish we had stayed longer.
Cons: I informed the hotel that we would arrive earlier than stated time, and would like to leave luggage while room was being prepared. The reply was OK. What we did not know was that the door was locked and no-one was available between 10 am and 3 pm. We arrived just before 10, so all was well, but this could have been difficult if we had arrived slightly later.
Pros: Great place to stay everything we wanted. Would happily stay again .
Cons: The weather but other wise fine
Pros: This is a very cozy hotel. The staff are super kind and friendly. Specially Siv. The food was delicious. Defenately will recommend this hotel to anyone and will stay again next time we are in Alta.
Pros: great view,
Pros: The place and rhe room
Pros: The view is great
Cons: The bathroom could use some renovation work
Pros: This is probably the best guesthouse/hotel I have ever stayed at. Everything was perfekt and the view was fantastic and it was not expensive!!! I really can recommend this place.
Stay in Alta – the gateway to Finnmark. Experience the northern lights, the midnight sun and Sami culture. Take a ride on dog and reindeer sleighs. Great conference facilities.
Pros: Great breakfast,verry good.
Pros: Central location. Very good breakfast, plenty of choice. There is no tea or coffee making in the room. Not even a kettle.
Cons: No kettle in the room
Pros: Good underground free parking Good, rich breakfast
Cons: Check in was 2 hours late. We arrived on time at 14:00 and had to wait till 16:00 to get our room. Zero amenities, not even a water bottle. 0verpriced, as all Norway. Very small room.
Pros: Easy to find, convenient. Great breakfast (with a smile).
Cons: Zero frills. Hoteling industrialised. Disinterested staff at check in, couldn’t be bothered to help me with problems with parking pay machine. No kettle/coffee making in room. Okay for just a bed, otherwise try the Thon next door.
Pros: the location is in the city center of alta itself and the tourist information center is very near. there are restaurants and shops around the area. The Cathedral of the Northern Lights is just at the front of the hotel. The room is big, modern and clean with extra pillows. I love the facilities: enough closets, hairdryer, shoe horn, fridge. The breakfast is grand with a lot of selection and you can even make your own waffle.
Pros: Comfortable room and friendly staff.
Cons: Paying to park motorcycles at the hotel.
Pros: Black out curtains were very effective to block out the midnight sun.
Cons: Staff was too busy and not that helpful. A cleaning employee barged into my room in the evening without knocking! The wifi didn't work.
Pros: Shopping center across the street. Great breakfast. Quiet room.
Pros: Generous breakfast.
Cons: Missed a couple of glasses in the room and a writing pad and pen.
Pros: Good location in the middle of town (and views to the scenery of Northern Norway). Excellent breakfast and comfortable bed.
Cons: One could have expected free parking from this kind of hotel.

With a stay at Nordlys Hotell Alta in Alta, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Alta Church and Northern Lights Cathedral. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Free parking in front of the hotel. Clean room and tidy bath room. Good beds. Quiet environment.
Cons: Unmanned remote controlled hotel. Entrance is gained with a code forwarded by SMS to you on the day of arrival. Basic room with no TV and no possibility to cook water and make tea or coffee in the room. No refrigerator either. City center is beyond walking distance.
Cons: I came to alta for jobbe. I worked 2 weeks nad they fired up me. Now i am uneployed
Pros: The small and very cosy house is directly situated at Lyngenfjord. We stayed there for 5 days - to short time as we realized later. The house can be used as the starting point for numerous excursions to the nearby breath-taking landscape. As we travelled in winter we had to chance to go for cross-country skiing, to find places with low stray light for observing northern lights at night and for participation in a snow scooter tour up into the mountains. Our landlords always supported us in planning out tours. We liked coming back to the house in the evening and to warm at the open fire place located in the kitchen. In the house we found everything needed to stay there, to cook and to organize living there. We could even pick up fire wood from a hut located close to the house. We would really recommend this house to people who want to live in an exciting landscape for both relaxing and active vacations.
Cons: No complaints!
Pros: Easy with the pin-codes. Soft bed.
Cons: The bathroom was not very clean. The shower was discusting. Cant have been properly clened in a while...
Pros: The room was nice and large. The bed was super comfortable. The towels were large and white and fluffy and soft.,
Cons: No reception. No person on the property at all. There was no soap in the shower's dispenser. That can happen, but when there is no one at the hotel except the 6 guests, you can't solve the problem. No TV. And they sent me an e-mail with the information to put in a code at the front door. The problem with that is I was on the road when they sent the e-mail -- 5 hours before my arrival. So I had to go to a competitor hotel and beg to use their internet to get the message. Poor way to start the stay.
Pros: Check in was easy and the hotel made it possible to check in after the desk closed as I had a delayed flight. Beds were super comfy and the room was huge! Would definitely stay again!
Cons: Cleaner kept coming a odd times such as 7pm at night and came to clean the room before check out in the morning. He said it was because he had another job after the check out time.
Pros: Beautiful area with incredible places and views around. Really easy and simple check in and check out with no time limitation only with code. Calm area , peace in heart.
Cons: No TV , simple room with table and view directly to my windows from parking. But do not think about that. View as no where. Milion of brilliant views and feels.
Pros: Simple accommodations. No reception, but door codes were sent via SMS.
Cons: It was rather expensive considering the location which was rather far outside the center of Alta.
Pros: Well, it was a "different experience"... if you think that visiting the hotel in the movie "Shining" is for your taste. I'm not sure if this hotel is built on a burial ground of indigenous people, but I would not be suprised. I liked the fact that we got out of this hotel alive.
Cons: No personnell. No breakfast. No service at all. Badly communicated instructions about the keyless operation of the doors. There was some A4-prints taped on the front door trying to explain how to use a PIN-code to get in. Only after checking email we managed to enter to the intimidating silent entrance hall with a pair of rubber boots and a stray flat screen TV on the floor. How curious! Later in the evening we helped another confused guest to get in. The poor old lady did not properly understand the bad instructions. This was not even a cheap stay!
