Breath taking view what ever the directions you look Staff or reception should know more about places of interest & their city to inform the tourist, specially where the best scottish foods & folkre dances etc.. taking place
Friendly welcome Poor attention to room servicing, e.g. flat batteries in TV remote control, bathroom fan not working, paint peeling off window frame, cobwebs on window frame.
dinner no phone, no hairdryer in room, cramped bathroom very basic. not good for the price i paid.
It was a good location Very poor evening meal, the hotel appeared to be short on staff.
The entertainment in the evening. The food was very good and the staff were friendly. the reception and the dining room didn't seem to communicate. reception told us not to book an evening meal, just to go when we were ready, when we arrived at the dining room it seemed to be a problem for them (didn't like the feeling that we had got it wrong) but didn't take long for them to seat and serve us.
price was excellent. Food was good and catering staff were pleasant and helpful No internet use. Weather was rainy and windy which was heard in the room hitting off the window. Although food is of good quality it is served very quick, giving you no time to enjoy it or relax after your previous course,
The hotel is easy to find because it is directly on the main road. The parking place is in front of the hotel. No good food menu and no other restaurants in that location. Only another hotel in 2 min walk offers excellent food. The hotel seems to have a low budget to renovate the rooms, they are very simple equipped, no relaxing atmosphere. The bathrooms are clean but the remains are very poor equipped. Furthermore the breakfast is not good and it takes too long to get the food, even for the tee and toast it takes 10 min and the toast is black! It seems, that food is offered and delivered from somewhere, e.g. porrige was poor in tast and nearly cold. The waiter didn't understand much English, not even the simpliest language. He seemed to be overstrained with his job. The pictures posted on the website does not correspond the reality!
Hotel room with view of the water No one at the front desk at early morning checkout - front door bolted shut.
The food, the location. The accommodation
Clean, welcoming, friendly and pleasant staff, great breakfasts, lovely room
The Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the food very much and would stay again for whatever reason (business or leisure).
everything was fine
The magnificent location with superb views nothing
Excellent Food plus Beatiful views service in lounge prior to dinner was a bit slow, but in faurness, they were extremely busy.
Friendly and helpful staff, main building has had a nice refurbishment, large open fire, excellent views of the hills and Portree, good location, decent and reasonable bar food. Good parking facilities. Good size en-suite bathroom. Classic double rooms are a bit travelodge, expected a bit more class for the price. These rooms are also at the back, which is fine, but they're in a seperate block that you have go outside to get to. No coat hooks in the room is a bit odd as is no free wi-fi but no brown sauce with the full Scottish breakfast is a travesty in a four star hotel!
Superb location minutes outside portree with fantastic outlook onto the bay and beyond.Well appointed hotel - touch of class
The location, service and quality of food in the Restaurant. We liked it so much that we extended our stay to from two to four nights.
Staff & food - excellent
staff were nice overpriced.
very nice room well decorated, spacious, clean and in good order. Excellent view from the window of superior room. Very quiet in restaurant due to time of year I guess. Service not great in fine dining restaurant - friendly but not very knowledgable or efficient.
Very clean and tidy Nothing really
The hotel is clean and tastefully decorated to a high standard Only one tiny negative comment - the shower was poor
The tranquility, wonderful views, the friendliness of the staff and the fresh, well prepared and presented food. The shower was very poor and the room could have been bigger for a double room.
Its location. Money has been spent on the building The beds are too short for anyone over 6ft and all bar twin beds in one room have wooden or metal bed ends. Rooms poorly furnished and badly laid out.
Friendly staff and evening meal. Furniture was old and outdated.
A very friendly welcome! Great location in the centre of Portree, and has a gorgeous view of the harbour. Very easy access to the rest of Isle of Skye- use this as your base for a few days and drive out to each of the sites/hikes :)
Hotel position very good. Weather and illness spoilt our short stay on Skye so would not like to comment further.
staff and the location with excellent view
Nice guest house, freindly staff beautiful view & excellent breakfast,I would recommend to anyone going to Skye. None
The view is awesome, loved sitting outside having local fish and chips, fab
Great view and location, and excellent service. We were given great information on the best scenic route to drive.
staff were excellent
Staff were great.Harbour view room & parking.Free wi-fi.Overall a good B&B.
Coolin View was central to the Isle of Skye, therefore making it easy to travel to other areas on the island, the breakfast was very good, the staff friendly, views wonderful and had convenient parking. It was a shame that the room felt slightly damp with areas of mould. For the price we expected slightly better room.
THe Coolin View was a good place for us as it was central to all the places that we had intended to visit. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The quality of the room furnishings and the character of the building.
Its a very beautiful old building with a nice fireplace and beautiful huge rooms. One of the nicest hotels I have ever been to. Its very good value for money.
Friendly and polite staff and beautiful location
original room unsatisfactory we were upgraded to honeymoon suite after complaint
the countryside and nice view from my room.the staff was very helpful and very very polite. I was not really impressed with the food. The portion was very small and for the price I was charged I think around £17 I felt a bit ripped off.I have been cooking in restaurants for over 10 year and I know people don`t mind to pay as long the food is good and the portions are reasonable.
I loved the amazing bedroom & gorgeous huge bathroom. The friendliness of the staff also helped to make it a lovely relaxing break for us. We were disappointed with the standard of the dinner although the breakfasts were great.
The peacefulness of the location and the pleasant and helpful attitude of the staff. Also the meal we had in the restaurant was excellent. Stayed in the Boudica room which was beautiful.
The grounds were amazing - the standard room decor was a bit dated, but the surroundings made up for that.
Very friendly & informal. Nice setting. Rather shabby particularly from the outside. Standard of food a bit hit & miss.
lovely country house hotel with beautiful views. staff were friendly and helpfull
Good restraunt downstairs, close to everything, guy at the front desk was helpful. Room was clean but not immaculate, ie stuff left in closet etc nothing bad though, the bedding and bathroom both very clean.
Nice warm hotel that had atmosphere. Did nit feel like a chain hotel that could be any where. Felt I was in the Highlands All was satisfactory
Ecellent breakfast and service The walls were pretty thin, the neibouring guests were veryy noisy. Thought the tarrif was a little bit pricy (by £5-£10) especially for end of winter season.
Food in restuarant was excellent Corridors were damp and musty smelling
None A very tired Hotel needs a complete revamp
Good location for out day trip tio Skye Rooms were a bit shabby and could do with being decorated. Waffles at breakfast were served burt side down and had been cooked on the same grill as the kippers
As a Scot, it was very pleasant to stay at a hotel which was obviously very much involved with the local community.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would have liked fresh towels daily. Breakfast choice of full english was a take it or leave it situation, also as a diabetic it would have been nice to be offered a sugar substitute like Canderal or Splenda to have with my cereal.
it's location and the parking space (in front of the hotel). rooms are a bit dull.
Good food Shower door damaged. Dripping wash basin tap Room ventilation poor
No hot water available
The environment, the views the food and the helpfulness of the staff, Really comfortable house with good facilities Nothing
Lovely setting right on the coast. Amazing views. Staff very friendly and helpful - they even give you complimentary whiskey and sherry on arrival, which was very welcome after the long drive to get there. Breakfast was excellent.
it was an experience lots of shortcomings
excellent service, historic site, many hiking trails nearby.
Very comfortable room, lovely fireplace in main room, beautiful views, tasty dinners and breakfast - most memorably, the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Comfortable, and the staff are really nice
beautiful peaceful relaxing hotel with fantastic food & very nice staff could have done with some background music throughout the public areas of the hotel
Beautiful house in a lovely setting, with great friendly staff. Unlike many of these converted homes, it was really well set up as a hotel and beautifully renovated. We really did feel very welcome and quickly felt like we were at home. Nothing was too much trouble, the rooms were comfortable and very clean and the food was just fantastic. Not really anything wrong with it - just a note that it is in the countryside, not the town. So if you want to go bar hopping or shopping for souvenier tat, better to look at Broadford or Portree. But for peace and quiet, great walking, fossil hunting, countryside touring or just sleeping and eating the days away, this is the place.
Warm welcome, room v. clean and comfortable, nice location (albeit far away)
Best breakfast that we had while in our stay in Scotland. Best Haggis and Blood Sausage, hands down. Great breakfast. Location, was somewhat hard for us to find. Old buildings, so doors and floors loud as people enter at night. Didn't feel safe. At one point someone came to the wrong door and or it sounded like they was at our door. Scared my wife badly. Didn't sleep muc
The beautiful Isle of Skye and the friendly, helpful staff that tried to make the best of the situation. They were clearly embarassed about the state of the hotel. The owner should be ashamed of himself. We couldn't open our room because the lock was worn out. After an instruction, we finally managed to open it. The room was really tired and dirty. The linoleum in the bathroom was completely rotten and the shelf above the sink had broken off. The owner is clearly a Scotsman, because nothing broken is repaired. I found a woodlouse in the bathroom. After we got back from dinner, my wife found a second one crawling around on the bed. She wanted to leave immediately, but it was too late to find another place to stay, so she put her pants into her socks and was lying in bed with her clothes on and left the light on. At 4:30 AM the people of the room above us started walking around, which made an annoying squeaking noise that kept me awake.
Room was available and adequate. No television in the room!!!
Good breakfast No shower
Good breakfast, nice staff Not the quality for the price. Water leaks. TV didn't work. Fire alarm at 6:00am.
The bed has seen better days and no shower
a nice place in a wonderful landscape it is a little old fashioned and maybe needs a little amelioration
We were dissapointed with the breakfast.
Difficult access to Portree
The hotel was in a good location, rooms very comfortable, breakfast was good, quiet and peaceful. T.V. Wasn't working in my room, but as we were only staying overnight this wasn't a problem, had we been staying longer, I would have mentioned it. These things should be checked by staff on a regular basis.
Excellent breakfast No signing from road to indicate that there was a small car park at the rear. There were three entrances to the hotel from this car park none of which were marked as Private or Staff Only. This led to an embarrassing situation when someone, who did not identify himself, as good as accused us of being about to carry out some criminal act. The reception was unfriendly and failed to indicate that there was a lift. This meant that we ( both over 70 ) had to carry our bags upstairs and along what seemed interminable corridors, which were narrow and extremely claustophobic. The stairs, corridors and our room were all extremely shabby - worn paintwork, shabby carpets, locks that didn't work, etc. The room itself fell far below any that we have encountered in many dozen similarly priced establishments
Hotel Employees were WONDERFUL--couldn't have been more helpful, competent, efficient, friendly, and professional. Food/service-excellent; touring/driving advice-excellent A lift of some kind for carrying heavy bags upstairs; a VERY small concession to purchase Drambuie to take home; hooks in the bathroom/on a wall; a makeup mirror; brighter lamp lighting--all would have been welcome for a bit of added comfort.
Everything, good supper and good breakfast One morning personel were not too smiley! Not tpo gappy yo be working that morning !
