Casa Rural Cinco Balcones - Aracena - Building

9.5 Excellent (541 reviews)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Miguel, the host, went out of his way to make the stay more enjoyable
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The proprietor Miguel could not be more welcoming, helpful and friendly. Excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and professional staff. Very clean and up to date facilities.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed staying at this friendly, well-managed hotel. The bed, furniture and other facilities in our room were old but clean and well-maintained, like the rest of the hotel. It was nice to stretch out in the shared kitchen, dining room and sitting area that guests can use, on the same floor as guest bedrooms. A restaurant and store with local food specialties is downstairs, at the street level. Overall, this small hotel offers excellent value, at a reasonable price.
Cons: We walk everywhere, do not take taxis and usually spend many hours walking and hiking while exploring a new town or city. The hotel is situated near the northern edge of the hilly town of Aracena, up a hill, while the cave and bus station are near the southern and southeast end of town. So expect a lot of hills in And around Aracena, but hills and many scenic viewpoints are one of things that make this interesting town so attractive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Miguel gave us a great welcome showing us two rooms to choose from. Parking was easy nearby. The room was spotless and there was also a kitchen facility and lounge which you could use although I did not use it myself. Outside there was a lovely patio to sit and enjoy the sunshine after a days walking/sightseeing. Breakfast was available in the bar downstairs where we enjoyed coffee and toast both mornings. Miguel was also very knowledgeable and gave us a map with details of the places to visit and also recommended local restaurants.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great, the hotel was great ,small and very friendly with lots of extras we didn't know about. The owner Miguel was the best host we've ever had. He booked us a table at a local restaurant on our arrival recommended a restaurant for the evenings ,Russes, which was the best gave us umbrella to walk to the village in the rain and became our friend. Locals were very friendly and included us in their conversations.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The easy going nature of it all
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spotlessly clean. Great location. Miguel the owner is a great host.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect for us.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located in a quiet area away from the Gruta. Finding it is relatively easy and free parking is available on the street nearby. The manager is very friendly and was very patient with our limited Spanish. The room was clean and quiet. You can walk to restaurants for dinner and driving down to the Gruta and finding parking (on a Monday) was easy. We didn't make use of the common kitchen area. There are cheaper places in Aracena but their ratings (and reviews) dissuaded us.
Cons: Nothing substantive; we would have liked to have spent less.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Small finca hotel runned by British-Spanish family. Located high on hill on the sunny side, possible to enjoy sun and splendid views from multiple terraces as well as from the swimming pool. Enjoyed the weekly entertainment and the excellent meals (both dinner and breakfast) at fair price. Traditional, local with a culinary touch. Location is good for light hiking with plenty of shadow from the omni-present forests. Some old villages nearby (walking distance) to have lunch of for shopping. Remarkable hospitality from all members of the family. Overall highly recommendable.
Cons: Bed mattresses in our room were a bit on the hard side.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great Location, pool fantastic. Good breakfasts and nice meal at dinner. Rooms large and clean
Cons: We weren't informed that Alec didn't cook on Thursdays for dinner. Left us with last minute search for somewhere to eat. Pricing for dinner not obvious and confusing pricing for wine.

Pros: Just a unique building with great history and yet refurbished with new and updated amenities. Great pool and lounging area

Pros: This place was wonderful. Its a beautiful old convent which as been made into a hotel with airy, pretty rooms, good aircon and very good pool. Its just on the side of the hill ten mins or less walk from the action. Hard to leave the hotel to be honest. Can't recommend it enough and there were so many place to sit outside and just take in your historical surrounds.
Cons: Should have stayed longer.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: everything
Cons: nothing to complain about
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The building itself is absolutely fabulous. The attention to all the small details, quality. Rooms are spacious, comfortable beds and good shower. Relatively fast internet.
Cons: The only thing I didn't like is that both the bar by reception and the pool bar are sometimes empty and you have to walk around trying to locate the staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place to stay
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Modern, very well appointed rooms. The hotel's common areas were beautiful with charming courtyards. Secure, spacious parking garage with easy access to the rooms. Good breakfast, including a hot selection.
Cons: Tea/coffee facilities in the room would have been nice.
5.5 Okay
Pros: We visited Aracena to discover this mountain town which was supposed to be a unique setting. The Convento seemed to be a unique setting. We did expect beautiful views and a setting that was unique. This was not the case. The hotel was fine, and the building was a historical monument, which I like.
Cons: The room was in need of LOTS of maintenance; painting, bathroom run down. Quite dingy. Considering the hotel was almost empty, I do not understand why they provided us with this room, instead of giving us a nicer room in perfect shape. We paid for a superior room and our room was substandard; not superior AT ALL. In addition it was the second floor facing the street so no view at all. A real shame since there must have been nicer rooms available with different views. I asked the check in assistant about it, and she shrugged her shoulders. Overall the hotel was a disappointment. Also a final thing that really bothered me. When one stays in a four or five star hotel, one expects somebody to serve fresh coffee at breakfast; not a machine with Nespresso. That's really terrible. More like a 2 star hotel's breakfast.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Angel and Lucy are fine hosts -- friendly and knowledgeable about the local geography, trails, history, ecosystem. If what you want is a clean, warm pension, with good food, nice hosts, and an excellent Andalucian village location, this is it.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It's great to stay at a place with truly sustainable credentials. Our wonderful hosts, Angel and Lucy, have created a warm welcoming experience in what was an old derelict building which is now kitted out with all mod cons incorporating eco-friendly technology. There's a fabulous garden with a large pool and terraces -- perfect for lazing after a long walk in the gorgeous country. Maps and photographic guide books are provided for a range of walks from a few kms through to more than 20km -- we did three of them and they're all great. There is a communal lounge area with big comfy sofas and an honesty bar with good local beer and wine. Breakfast and a picnic were delicious featuring local produce and pate and jam made by Lucy (who sometimes also cooks dinners). There are plenty of options in the village for lunch or dinner -- we particularly recommend La Plazita for their innovative salads and pizza. This is a fabulous place for a few days or a week in the country.
Cons: The bed was too soft for us but others may like that.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent with local products Owners very helpful in providing information and maps for the hiking trails in the area Home cooked dinner with traditional recipes was excellent

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Posada San Marcos has real character yet has an incredible Eco friendly profile thanks to the foresight and hard work of the owners. Comfy beds, good shower and warm rooms (Feb). The hosts, Angel & Lucy were so helpful and friendly especially during our long chats over breakfast. Made you feel at home straight away! The area represents 'unspoilt' Spain set in a huge national park with pretty old villages and good traditional restaurants.
Cons: Can't really think of anything !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely haven in a beautiful village. Lucy and Angel went out of their way to make our visit enjoyable. They know so much about the area and the walks. You must visit the restaurant in Linares, when you have walked there and back, you can certainly enjoy your meal. The pool is a welcome treat in the afternoon.
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lucy and Angel couldn’t have made us more welcome. The whole atmosphere in the Posada was relaxed and friendly. Being non Spanish speaking it was a huge asset to have English speakers who were able to give us guidance on the best walks in the area as well as help with numerous other things. Lucy cooked for us on three evenings and I would highly recommend taking up this option when it is available. The posada will also provide you with a lovely packed lunch for days where your walk might not pass through a village.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved all the home made pates and bread. And the array of olive oils to try.
Cons: A little more variety for a 7 night stay would be our only comment ...but we did enjoy everything we got!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hospitality from Lucy and Angel who were charming and helpful in every way (but particularly in pointing us in the right direction for walks!). They are passionate about their project and it shows. They have spared no effort in making their hotel a comfortable but ecological 'home from home'. And loved the authentic Spanish breakfasts!
Cons: Driving and parking in the tiny cobbled streets of Alajar is not for the faint-hearted! (Tip: park on the outskirts and stroll in - only a few mins walk).

Pros: A quirky hotel with interesting decor, each room totally different. Ours had a enormous and modern bathroom. Swimming pool area was very nice with views of the town.
Cons: No lift. Building work next door. Reception area was often unattended and we had to search for the receptionist. No outdoor windows, only window into a public area so no natural light and privacy. Food was OK but not the gastronomic level that was promoted.

Pros: Beautiful setting and very peaceful area. Parking was easy with plenty of spaces around. Facilities were great with the most comfortable bed I have stayed in. Top marks from a very satisfied customer
7.5 Good
Pros: Reasonable hotel at reasonable price in an attractive small town in the Picos de Aroche National Park. We would have preferred to stay in Almonaster (one of the "most beautiful pueblas in Spain" with one of the oldest and well preserved mosques) but no hotels there. Good tapas bar on Plaza de San Pedro - Montecruz Restaurante.
Cons: Could not get WiFI in the rooms.
7.0 Good
Pros: Good location in town and comfortable room
Cons: A little boost with people on stairs/in hotel kitchen. Also, I checked in on Christmas Day and found it a little offhand/like they weren't expecting me despite my booking. The usual staff may have been on holiday.

Pros: Only a few minutes walk from main square. No parking problems. Breakfast was unusually nowadays a la carte rather than buffet but good quality. Attractively furnished older building
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I really enjoyed at this cosy guest house. Everything was great, room was small but clean and cosy and with the added bonus of a small terrace that had a beautiful view over the town (room 31). Breakfast was basic but also tasty; tea, toast, great local Jamon and fresh fruit. Staff were very friendly. The location is great, 5 minutes from the centre of town. 8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely conversion of old rural buildings into several units, very pretty courtyard with communal seating areas. Good sized rooms, spacious. Quiet yet close enough to village centre. Owner provided information on local walks. Facilities mostly excellent - modern hob, bidet and plenty of hot water. Very pleasant village, still Spanish and not overwhelmed by tourism.
Cons: Rooms are a bit dark but that is traditional in Spain and the central heating only took the edge off the cool evenings. We were offered logs for a fire but did not bother as we ate out at night. No cleaning done during our 3-night stay - would have been nice for the toilet bin to be cleared. No hand soap!
7.5 Good
Pros: Fire place, location
Cons: it was cold but however, the fire place worked great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Personalised service from Jose & David, the owners. Always very quick in responding to our questions via Whatsapp. The cottage is beautifully restored and comfortable. Easily accessible to the dehesas and to Jambugo. Also, the wifi is very strong
La Flamenca Inn - Cortelazor - Bedroom

Overview Reviews
Located in Cortelazor, La Flamenca Inn is within a 15-minute drive of Sierra de Aracena National Park and Museo del Jamon. Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and microwave in a common area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We believe the hotel was created fairly recently (maybe 10 years ago or so) on the site of an old bakery in the town . According to their web site, built out of a dream inspired by the love of beautiful things and the environment around Cortelazor. The decor is second to none with much thought gone into every successful detail . From the original stain-glass windows bought in Scotland from the remnants of an old church to parquet flooring and tasteful paintings. Personally, I have never fully understood the theatricality of the four poster bed but Linda loved it so there you go. My favourite detail was a copy of John Foredham's '90's book on Jazz in the bedroom bookcase, so there you go again. We only stayed the one night on a short birthday treat but enjoyed the stay immensely. We will be back. Cortelazor is situated in the magical Sierra Morena and from the village there are mountain paths in every direction. Memorable.
Cons: Nothing. All good.

Pros: Cute little town and great location for a stop on our way from Portugal to Spain. Very clean property in what appeared to be an old mansion. Breakfast was continental with everything you could want.
Cons: The only problem with the location was it was right next to the church, which was beautiful but the bell chimed on the hour and half hour and was quite loud.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place.
Cons: Having a shower made the bathroom floor wet.

Cons: A little basic and isolated
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything is just like the photos. The staff were quiet, professional and friendly. The 16€ 3- course menu was good value and beautifully cooked (I recommend the presa de Iberico). How nice to have a G&T on the shady terrace over looking the pool. Easy parking out front, plenty of sunbeds around the pool and toiletries provided. Good A.C. and WiFi. Pool is 10 x 5m. Breakfast generally value for money. Not much in the town but there is a grocers and a bar. If you're in the area, then you can't go wrong.
Cons: The other guests with no consideration for others: why do you think it's ok to bang on doors and talk at the top of your voices in the corridors? Carton juice and coffee in flasks at breakfast.

Pros: The accommodation was in a cabin type bungalow off the main road in the woods. It had a fire place and small kitchen.
Cons: The place was damp and cold on arrival and we had to order more wood which was wet and did smoke the place out. The floors were filthy and the kitchen very poorly equipped with minimal utensils and crockery. No kettle and a broken toaster which was replaced after complaining.

Pros: Gema, from reception, great, kind & helpful. The girl in the dining room who served our dinner, very nice.
Cons: There was a tall woman serving breakfast who was not very accommodating, trying to give us as little juice and ham as she could. The place is completely isolated with no landscape. No lawn, just long, dry shrubs. Not worth it for the price we paid.

Overview Reviews
Eighteenth century building which is a traditional house of the Sierra de Huelva. The many rooms and halls invite the customer to enjoy the convenience wrapped in its ancient walls and beams and fireplaces that captivate with their environment with a warm oak wood aroma.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The location.
Cons: We went in January and it was cold when we arrived - the room had not been warmed and was freezing. Although there was a heater in the bedroom which warmed it there was no heating in the whole of the rest of the hotel - we were the only guests - so basically apart from the bedroom we were in, the rest of the hotel was completely unheated in January.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The people were very helpful and friendly. Location very central.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hospitality from Lucy and Angel even though I got confused and came a day earlier than my reservation. Decided to stay 3 more nights at their upscale sister hotel. They set me up with a bird watching guide, made sure I could find my way to trails and even spoke Spanish to me on request. They are bilingual (English/Spanish) and possible even speak some French and German. Also the posada is incredibly eco-friendly with cork insulation and green building materials, recycling etc and also wheelchair accessible--values I appreciate.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners provided excellent advice on walking trails in the locality along with walking maps and walking sticks. Great attention to detail.
Cons: The breakfast was overpriced at €10 and disappointing given that basics such as cheese and eggs were not provided and a supplement of €7 applied for ham. The local honey, pate and lemon marmalade was lovely however.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very professional and committed to customers and the environment
