Pros: Great breakfast, friendly owner and very resourceful place
Pros: A uniqe place, lovely hosts, wonderfull!
Pros: A perfect break to enjoy the Morvan forest. You find yourself in a family-run B&B, located by a lake, with an incredible view, cared for by the finest hosts. It’s tastefully decorated with antiques and curious objects, as they also run an antiques shop. Breakfast is delicious, fresh and organic. Many things to do around, from short walks in the forest (including a lovely cascade), to cultural and archeological sites from a 15 min drive. Thank you, we’ll be back!
Pros: It's hard to describe what a special place this is. It's a beautiful old house, restored and updated without compromising its character. It's on a crossroads in the middle of the forest, with a brook at the bottom of the garden and the lake (etang) just beyond - very peaceful and relaxing. The forest itself has some really good walks, especially the gorges de la Canche - just down the road. Monique and Elias were very friendly and welcoming. The room was large and comfortable, with a few quirks which meant it didn't feel like just a hotel room. The view from the room was excellent. Breakfast was very good - even better because we were able to have it outside. A wholehearted recommendation.
Pros: We had a wonderful time, Monique and Elias are terrific - they helped us out with everything we needed! It is beautifully located by the pond, perhaps even prettier than on the pictures. The house is in stellar condition, while keeping it authentic.
Pros: Had lovely meals in Chateau-Chinon, all recommendations from the owners.
Cons: Nothing at all
Pros: Friendly, helpful hosts Monique and Elias welcomed us to their delightful home situated in the Morvan Regional Natural Park - well situated for hiking right from their doorstep along paths, trails and minor country roads. They loaned us detailed walking maps and gave great advise about the surrounding countryside. Comfy beds, use of their kitchen for lunch and / or dinner and a cozy lounge to relax in were all pluses.
Pros: We felt harmony here, it is difficult to express... the only noise was the sound of the river. Once I read that according to feng shui principles a river must flow by some specific angle relative to the house. When I looked out of the window, I felt It is exactly the right angle and the whole landscape was just fantastic (regardless of our trust in this old Chinese practice). We are grateful to Monica and Elias, obviously they understand what led people here, They managed to create unique atmosphere inside, carefully preserving authentic interior of the old house without compromising comfort (and breakfast was also great!). During our stay it wasn't just a hotel, it was our home.
Cons: probably not for those who is insensitive to nature
Pros: Great service! The room and the whole hotel was clean and comfy. We'd like to thank Monica and Elias for being extremly helpful and pleasant.
With a stay at Au Vieux Morvan in Chateau-Chinon, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Saint-Romain Church and Museum Septennat. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Great stop over hotel.
Cons: Not a lot in the village.
Pros: An excellent location to start exploring the Morvan region. The pleasant restaurant with a menu that was reasonably priced.
Cons: The breakfast provided at 12 euros per person : poor viennoiserie, fresh fruit of dubious quality (why not offer fresh fruit salad instead ?) and a very limited range of meats/cheese. Poor stock control led to no apple juice available on our last two mornings. Only one chair in the bedroom. The door into the bathroom could not be closed so there wasn't the privacy one has a right to expect. The evening menu was very limited and failed to cater for people staying longer than one or two nights. Lack of information from an inexperienced staff when we arrived - no details on parking, nor on the swimming pool.
Cons: Very noisy due to construction and inconsiderate late arriving guests Very restricted menu for evening meals
Pros: The view from the room was breathtaking. Rooms were clean and beds reasonably comfortable.
Cons: The hotel did not open until 4PM in the afternoon. The staff speaks only French. The hotel restaurant was not open, and the village had only one other option for serving food - La Montana. The jury is still out in respect of whether this can in fact be called food. Breakfast was terrible.
Pros: Not a lot
Cons: Staff were very unfriendly. The room was too small. The motorcycle parking area doubled as a dogs toilet. The town was dead and we were forced to eat in the hotel where the food was awful. Wouldn’t stay there again.
Pros: The location, and the surrounding areas. Great view from the restaurant. Charming architecture and old fashioned fell of the establishment.
Cons: There might be a slight language barrier, if you don't speak French, but then again Google translate comes to the rescue. They failed to mention the restaurant was closed the day we arrived, even though the information brochure in the room stated it would be.
Pros: Staff gave breakfast at 7:15 instead of 7:30 as we had to leave early. The breakfast was well done on both days. Friendly staff.
Cons: On Friday evening, a group of local French people were smoking in the bar, inside the hotel, the smoke came up the stairs and was strongly noticeable inside my room and the room of a friend. I found this disturbing. When asked for a beer at 21:45, the staff reluctantly served the beer indicating that it was closing time in 20 minutes...
Pros: Bedroom was comfortable and the shower was excellent. Car parking good.
Cons: Booking.com told me that the swimming pool would be open just before I reserved the room and could not cancel. The confirmation email told me it would be closed but by then I could not cancel. Mislead by booking.coms inaccurate webpage. The main problem with this hotel is the stairs. They are the steepest, narrowest and bendiest I have ever encountered in a hotel. We had asked for a room on a lower floor because my wife struggles with stairs. Despite this we were put on the top floor up the awful stairs. We asked for a different room but this was declined.. Only book if you can climb stairs like a mountain goat!
Cons: The hotel is an older property and although the room we had seemed to have benefited from re-decoration, I felt that further investment was needed to improve the overall experience.
Pros: Clean, good restaurant
Cons: Not much ambiance, bag became wet during dinner, no warning or apologies. Very hot room!
