Pros: Location was perfect. A large house. Host, Francoise (Francis) was exceptional and welcomed us when we arrived for our stay. She also greeted us and when we arrived for breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was exceptional with home cooked pancakes, jams, yogurt. Host had an historical perspective about Villers Brx during WWI and we enjoyed the dialogue about the Australian war effort. Geographical location - close to pharmacy and war museum. Also not far from Australian war cemetery. This is the obvious choice to stay as all needs met. 'Galaxy', the pet labrador, was also there to welcome us when we arrived.

Breakfasts were very good with plenty of choice. Valerie was a most charming and helpful hostess, offering to make telephone bookings for us to arrange meals at local hotels etc...

It was a great base to explore Amiens and the nearby WW1 memorial and Sir John Monash Centre and the little school that "never forgets Australia".

Hotel de la Basilique - Albert - Building
7
8.8 Excellent (273 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel de la Basilique in Albert, you'll be just steps from Notre Dame Basilica and Somme 1916 Museum.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: wonderful boutique hotel in the centre of Albert. Service excellent & staff really friendly & helpful. If you stay, you must book in the restaurant - you will not be disappointed. Excellent food & service.
Cons: Double glazed windows at the front which helps reduce the noise from the street overnight (you can get quite a drone from a car as it drives up through the town). Personally, if I stayed again, I would book a room at the rear of the hotel, but I am a light sleeper so for others it may not be an issue & the double glazing did help to a large extent. However, there is no air conditioning, so in warmer weather, these rooms may become uncomfortable which then becomes a trade-off between noise or coolness... Also, the shower floor is very slippery - it could do with an anti-slip mat in the bathroom.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is a superb property. Staff are lovely and the food is excellent. We always stay here when in Albert
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: Great location, comfortable, large room, good bathroom. Free on-street parking
Cons: No elevator!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is very well located in central Albert, for both enjoying this pleasant French town and the battlefields around it. Although compact, the rooms are very comfortable with large beds and spotless bathrooms. Tea and coffee facilities are included as is free mineral water. The restaurant attached to the hotel is very good as are others in the immediate vicinity. The tourist information office is right next door where you can rent a bike, an arguably more relaxing and peaceful way of exploring the battlefields than by car.
Cons: A continental breakfast is 10 Euros extra per person; it is fresh and convenient although some might find this rather a lot to pay for cereal, bread, croissants etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming and friendly staff. Clean comfortable room and lovely shower. Dinner was very good and excellent value for money. Being on a motorcycle parking was fairy easy.
Cons: The room was a bit warm, fortunately, being on the second floor, I was able to have some of the windows open during the night. No plug point beside the bed, I use a CPAP device so this is important to me. Fortunately I carry an extension lead so was still able to use it.
7.5 Good
Pros: Pleasant staff and super location
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Enjoyable one night stay. No issues at all . Dinner was very good. Breakfast coffee also worth it. This hotel is better than 2 stars. Lack of stars I would say is absence of lift. Clean and tidy and central position.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: For a night stop in Albert, the hotel was ideal, with a very comfy bed and a spacious room. We also had a very good meal in the restaurant in the evening. I would definitely use the hotel again
Cons: Only a slight comment, it was quiet hot night and there was no air conditioning in the room, but we did know this when we booked.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb location and hotel. The food is amazing and I would highly recommend dining outside on a warm summers evening. Thank you to the excellent hosts.

Cons: Corbie is small township and as such has limited places to eat or drink and some quirky opening hours including our hotel. However still a great little place to stay. Ceiling fan in the room would also have been nice.
7.1 Good
Cons: Although it was June, it turned cold, and we were not able to switch the heating on. We assumed that saying yes to breakfast for all 4 days at the beginning was enough, so surprised that we'd not been catered for on our last morning. WiFi was intermittent.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This was an excellent location especially as we were attending ANZAC Day Dawn service at the Australian Memorial In Villers-Bretonneux the next morning. We stayed two nights which allowed recovery time after a big day. The restaurant was great we had dinner there both nights and breakfast on our last morning. Staff do everything they can to help but you will still need your translator App on the phone to help you order what you want.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The surrounding country side, Albert, Villers-Bretonneux
Cons: Extra taxes, very expensive room,, no tea or coffee facilities
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was as expected and a good standard for the class of Hotel. The position of the Hotel is good for exploring the area ( 1st world war sites) The staff while not speaking much English are friendly and helpful. The only thing you should be aware of is that Corbie is shut Friday to Tuesday with very little open including the Hotel restaurant.
Cons: Nothing

4.6 Okay
Pros: Bed was comfortable, car parking very close to room, air conditioning
Cons: Very dark, smelt a bit damp / musty, only 1 tea bag, towels were replaced late (after our arrival)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The usual excellent service from helpful and friendly staff. We have used the Glisy Campanile for a number of one night stop overs over the last few years and have enjoyed every one. We have their evening meal option which has always been good. We don't take breakfast, as we stop en route later in the morning for a coffee. The air-con was welcome on this stay, as we were on the edge of the canicule.
7.1 Good
Pros: Great restaurant
Cons: Slightly out of town
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were great and very good value for money. If you like French food for dinner you are at the right place. Breakfast is great too, you'll find everything you are looking for from French croissants und very good coffee to cooked items like bacon, sausages, and scrambled and boiled eggs to sweet goodies and a selection of cereals etc.
Cons: I know, booking.com is asking for two or three sentences I should write. What where can I find these sentences. Everything was as you want it. So two or three sentences about my like-nots? Not from me for a perfect stay.
5.8 Okay
Cons: The room smelt of smoke and we were unable to eat in the restaurant which was disappointing as I am disabled.
7.5 Good
Pros: The person on the phone dealing with the booking very helpful.
Cons: People are very noisy drinking alcohol in the rooms and hanging around outside the building it doesn't feel very safe for women.

Cons: No negatives come to mind.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Not a lot. We went here for old times sake as we had had a great visit years ago. At that time the rooms were a little odd but clean but the meal in the restaurant was fabulous. This time it was dreadful, a tough steak and shell pieces in the Moules.
Cons: The rooms were not clean they smelt of boiled cabbage. The breakfast was well below average. A real disappointment.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Room ok
Cons: The manager was unpleasant. Dinner was revolting.
4.0 Okay
Pros: breakfast ok. room clean.
Cons: room not similar to representation on web, too small, no chairs or bedsiode tables, one small wardrobe. Staff - manager surley and rude, despite having a totally british clientele ( we never saw any other nationals in the hotel) there were signs up everywhere saying that the staff did not speak english. Albert itself is a bit of a dump, poor facilities and generally a mess,
6.7 Good

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, cheerful staff. Breakfast was good (continental).
Cons: Smallish, very basic room. Modular bathroom. Only one window, a bit claustrophobic. Despite these minor disappointments—I didn’t expect luxury at this price—It was still good value in that it had everything one needed at an ok price.
6.3 Good
Pros: Very small room, dark, little window is useless.
Cons: Car parking facilities, breakfast is not too bad for the money.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great value for money - clean bed - perfect for one night Nearby restaurant was great

Pros: Very good value and easy stop over with plenty of car parking
7.5 Good
Pros: Good for an overnight stay on the way to Calais. There were plenty of places to eat within walking distance. It was very close to the motorway.

Cons: The bathrooms are a little small but you don’t need anything more for short stay.

Pros: It was perfect for our needs at the time. A bed, hot shower, breakfast, and proximity yo dining spots.

4.2 Okay
Pros: Location was good for bus to Amiens, and for supermarket.
Cons: When we checked in, we were asked to pay for the night in full, but we had already paid in advance. We paid for breakfast for the next morning but the man did not show up and we had to leave for the next leg of the journey. We felt cheated.
