Pros: Karen is a very friendly & approachable host who made us feel at home from the moment we walked through the door, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was a dog-friendly room which was a good size, en-suite with a big comfy bed, sofa, flat screen TV, kettle, tea, coffee, milk, shortbread & bottled water. Karen cooks a super Scottish breakfast using good quality locally supplied ingredients, no complaints from us! The location of the B & B is great with several hotels just next door offering great deals on evening meals, the beach at the end of the street (and as we were travelling with our 2 x dogs this was a bonus), a supermarket nearby and the town around the corner, what else could you ask for!! With all of this on tap it's hardly surprising Karen won ' Four in a bed', it's easy to see why!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was far beyond expectation, rather like the full English that I cook at home but then fresh fruit salad and cereal as well, Bottomless pot of coffee and tea too, We knew nothing of Ayr and wished we had time to explore the coast as it was only a short distance away (2 miles). The local surroundings are very old and in need of a paint job but go inside and find the friendliest of people - don't judge the book by its cover!
Cons: Expect rain, you're in Scotland. However, on the day that counted, the wedding day, we had dry weather and England was battered all day - how canny was that!

7.1 Good
Pros: The location is very good right next to sea front and few minutes from town centre. The building is older style and the furnishings are suited to the property. The beds are very comfortable and it was very quiet so we all had a good nights sleep. You need to get there early for parking outside property or you have to park further down the road. It was fine for one night and the breakfast was very nice.
Cons: the décor is a bit dated and there was a bit of dust in the room too. We also found a toe nail in the bed but the sheets were clean. The bathroom was next to the room so you had to come out the room to go to bathroom but it was not shared.

7.9 Good
Pros: The location was ideal. And the bed and pillows were really comfortable.
Cons: Room 2, It wasn't a sea view as advertised. The shelf in bathroom needs fixing as does the toilet roll holder, both loose. No explanation that you needed a permit for parking or that the keys given out were for front door as well as your room, had to ask where the room was. It's 2x single beds pushed together not a large double as advertised so you could feel the join. 1x bathrobe instead of 2. The free toiletries needed replenished. All small things really but attention to detail does make a difference. Certainly not 4 star.

Pros: The Railway Hotel is a 5 minute walk from the Rail Station. Auchinleck is a small town that has had it's rough times, however it seems to be revitalizing more.
Cons: As our family lived in Auchinleck, it was a mixture of nostalgia and rediscovery. Great little walkable town with a history dating back to the late 1600's.
