Excellent 10.0
Pros: Host was fantastic , friendly, welcoming. Breakfast was great, especially the lovely fresh fruit salad. Very comfy bed. Nice area outside to sit with a drink from the honesty bar after a long hot journey.
Cons: Some of our group in the rooms at the front said the road noise woke them quite early.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: From the moment you arrive, you are made welcome in a beautiful and tastefully restored building at the heart of the town. There are so many little touches that really matter. one is the trust box for serving drinks to yourself in the time of COVID... and the breakfast was epic - I would say it is worth staying for that alone. ! A welcome host and a comfortable stay - faultless. !
Cons: The bed was a bit low, so was only a few inches off the ground, which for a sprightly lad like me was fine. but maybe too low for less able. But to be honest, it was a lovely house restoration and the ups and downs, changes in levels etc are part of its charm. it was quiet restful and looks like I am now saying nice things again, cos to be honest, thats the way it is.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: The room was large and comfortable, as was the bathroom. The bath was a really good size with plenty of hot (very hot) water. The house was stunning and the grounds pleasant. Breakfast was good, but the local honey was delicious!
Cons: You could not lock the door when you left. So although the owners and staff would be about, it felt like we could not leave anything in the room of real value. But as we had a car, that was not too much of a problem.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The building ,the grounds ,the breakfast ,the staff.all absolutely fabulous ,nothing too much trouble.Dont usually go back to a hotel twice but I will definitely go back here. Thanks Carol and all the staff for a lovely relaxing stay.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: The location was perfect for us, a beautiful boutique hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and when we asked questions were more than happy to supply information or find the answers for us.
Cons: We tried to book a few days before we arrived for something to eat in the evening but didn't receive any reply so ate elsewhere only to find that the restaurant was in fact open. We had a few bits to eat and the food was delicious. Breakfast was also very good. I would advise Willowbeck to update the website to let guests know they can get food every evening.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The staff was so friendly and helpful. They couldn't do enough for us both. The room was brilliant. Bed was so comfy and room really clean. Food exceptional 👍 Will be going back next year for our anniversary.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The place is tucked away down a leafy lane, with a landscaped garden with pond. We were greeted by the owner, who showed us to our room, which looked like it was just created / renovated - really good style, really good quality of fittings, bedding, very comfortable mattress, tea & coffee making facilities, big TV with netflix etc. We booked dinner, and the food and service was great. Tables were outside in the garden. All round, really lovely place. Owner was charming.
Cons: The shower - although all brand new (shower fittings, tiling etc), the shower I think was electric and didn't give the flow expected. Apart from that all great.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Quiet and clean.
Cons: Although very good the evening meal seemed to be overpriced. Don't really like having to pre order breakfast and if they don't want to do beans that's fine but should just say instead of ignoring request.
Good 6.0
Pros: Very pleasant aspect and area
Cons: don't know how it gets a 5 star rating with its minimal facilities
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Excellent breakfast, lovely room with good touches and attention to detail.
Cons: Evening menu didn't appear to be great value.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: The breakfast
Cons: Road noise
Excellent 9.0
Pros: There was a very high standard of cleanliness and Covid regulations were observed. The location was just off the motorway which was ideal for our journey to Scotland. The City was within easy walking distance. Our host filled our thermos flask for our onward journey free of charge.
Cons: We were unable to access the property until 4pm although our confirmation stated 3pm.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: Everything was perfect. Very clean. Friendly staff and amazing food. Would definitely visit again
Mediocre 2.0
Pros: I chose this place based on reviews - it ended up being the worst hotel I’ve ever been to. It says “luxury” I didn’t even see basics. It’s not a hotel - it’s someone’s home let out to undiscerning people looking for a unique experience in the British countryside and being very badly treated.
Cons: The bed was awful - couldn’t sleep all night (ended up on the sofa). Horrible reception - very unprofessional - I was chased out by the dog and met with utter confusion. Next day No breakfast (all staff were asleep when I had to leave at 7:15). The room was dated (there was a vhs machine!!!) and the cupboards were filled with other people’s junk. The tea and coffee was very sad looking and uninviting. The grounds were very tired looking. We woke up to humongous beetles/cockroaches crawling all over the floor. I will not be coming back or recommending this place.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very relaxing friendly and comfortable amazing food and beautiful building
Cons: Can’t think of anything?
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Very nice hotel, room staff and food was very good. Ground were very nice and walled garden very impressive
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Beautiful setting + very welcoming + outstanding food = wonderful place
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We absolutely loved this hotel from start to finish. Very welcoming staff. Very relaxed atmosphere; a real home from home. Our room was beautiful; large and very comfortable. The food was fantastic. Excellent quality and value for money. Our dog got a big welcome and we loved that the resident dog, Rhubarb, kept an eye on all goings-on! Surrounding grounds are lovely and it was so peaceful walking along the river to the walled garden after dinner. Would not hesitate to go back.
Cons: Perhaps a larger selection of bottles in the Honesty Bar. Admittedly, there may have been a larger variety "behind the scenes" but I wasn't offered anything else whilst waiting for dinner.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: The room was modern and clean with plenty of space. The food at the restaurant was excellent and exceeded all expectations. There is a lovely outdoor seating area which was ideal for the sunshine.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Pleasantly surprised at this gem of a traditional Inn, Bedroom was clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. staff were welcoming and pleasant. Breakfast was a cooked traditional fayre far better than the usual continental style breakfast attached to most "Breakfast included" Didn't book evening food as we had a booking at Talkin Tarn Country Park to watch outside theatre. would definitely recommend to others and book again if in the area
Cons: Traditional country inn in small hamlet near Talkin Tarn country park, ,many original features had the feel of real country pub with roaring fires in winter.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Food was excellent, comfy furniture, games room and reading room were great
Cons: WiFi signal
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Location was quiet but not too far from the attractions we’d arranged to visit. In difficult times, meals were served quite well.
Cons: More choice on the evening menu, even if a longer wait would have ensued.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: A lovely historic inn in a quiet village. Although the room was on the small side it had a full bathroom which was a treat! The meal was excellent- best fish I’d had in years. Breakfast was plentiful and this even more amazing as the single handed member of staff managed to achieve this in good time and with great cheer! She needs special mention here for her can do attitude and great customer service.
Cons: Nothing to say. They dealt very well with a difficult situation around isolating staff and subsequent shortages. This could have made it awkward but they managed it exceptionally well.
Excellent 10.0

Excellent 8.0
Pros: The room was clean and comfortable, nothing special but just what we needed. The arrangement for covid were well thought through and worked well, meals were very good, we were allocated a table for our entire stay which was great. Although on a main road you hear nothing due to an extra level of glazing. Hosts are friendly and chatty with a good sense of humour
Cons: No ones fault locally, but very restricted as to where we could visit.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: food is good room comfy good parking but still not lit
Cons: If you like a window open at night get a room at the back cause the road noise is loud. fan not working in bathroom. No decafe coffee in room(don't need to ask in other hotels) and no socket near the kettle, means putting the kettle on the floor. I never asked for this room again, i purposely asked for a room at the back but that seems to have got lost.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We liked it so much we stayed there for an extra night the hospitality off Gary and Lorna was first class made us feel so at home there and so welcoming the food was yet again top quality breakfast was a proper breakfast and not in a brown paper bag
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Good food and plenty of it. Very down to earth.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Really lovely staff who provided us with dinner and breakfast as well as a really cosy and comfortable room. Good price for what we got and a really good location for people who are planning to walk Hadrian's Wall.
Cons: Nothing really, it was quiet when we stayed so hard to judge what it would be like if busy.
Good 7.0
Pros: Home made meat dishes were good, breakfast too. Useful location if you are walking the wall.
Cons: Very tricky for vegetarians with some tutting disapproval from the kitchen and I guess mask exempt staff?
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Fantastic place, lovely owner, happy to accommodate a potential late arrival, huge room & bathroom, super-clean, easy parking and access to Carlisle & motorway. Sad we didn't get to try the restaurant, we'll have to come back! A great place to stay.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Lovely gardens and a nice pool
Good 6.0
Pros: It was good
Cons: A bit dated. You couldn't always get a parking space later on.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We loved absolutely everything about our stay. Staff & hotel was perfect... Polite helpful very welcoming
Cons: N/a
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The restaurant was good and food very high quality. Staff were very friendly. Location is perfect for a stop off but the village has such character jt would make a nice weekend break. It’s close to lovely scenic walks and the railway viaduct over the River Eden was a nice bonus for a quick morning stroll.
Cons: Reception service was slow (there was a big wedding group staying) and seemed understaffed for a hotel of this size.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Great location, really comfy bed and loads of lovely places to explore nearby.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: So close to a railway station and Wetharal a lovely village
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Really impressed by how the staff made our stay enjoyable despite the circumstances. This was the first week when Covid restrictions had been lifted but at the same time high numbers are being pinged to self isolate. So when we arrived we were told that staff shortage meant they weren’t able to offer their normal service. It meant we ate dinner in the bar not the conservatory restaurant. Despite a more limited menu the food we had on both nights was very good. Breakfast was continental rather than full English but the selection was great in quality and quality and more than adequate for most people. The room was very clean and we had a swim in the pool where we could see that extra cleaning was being done. This was our first swim in 2 years! The garden and grounds are looking lovely. It’s a super location in a small interesting village but not far from main transportation links.
Cons: The carpark gets very busy and it can be tricky to get in and out of with some big cars and vans taking up more than the marked spaces.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The pool was fantastic as was the overall setting. The breakfast was a little expensive but very good
Cons: We were disappointed that the Conservatory Restaurant wasn't open and the set menu choices on their website were not available.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Traditional style hotel and service, the sat afternoon have worked there for a long time and therefore care that the guests are being looked after. Very quiet location.
Cons: Although the squeaky floor boards are quaint they can be a bit of a nuisance at night!

Okay 5.0
Pros: great breakfast, great location just off the m6, lovely people
Cons: it turned out my price had to be doubled as i apparently only booked for one person, not two. My mistake, but seemed a bit excessive given that it made no difference to the room!
