7.9 Good
Pros: Very relaxing. Not crowded.
Cons: The pool for guests is so salty that our kids wouldn’t use it because it hurt their eyes so much.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Isla del Encanto is a paradise. A dream come true. Beautiful private island. Amazing staff. Excellent food. Total relaxation.
6.7 Good
Pros: Despite overall disappointing experience: very comfortable room and nice staff
Cons: The entire experience was very disappointing. The hotel claim blue water and white beach but you don’t really get them. You arrive at 10am with the daily visitors (who only stay at the hotel for the day) with 4 boats fully packed. You don’t get your room before 3pm, so you can’t really be at ease. If you want to arrive later you will have to pay an extra fee. All activities (which are anyway limited to 3) were depending on the daily visitors. So every activity is crowded. You go snorkeling with 40people. There is no opportunity to go to the Rosario islands, no activity for the hotel guests. Many people staying at the hotel were disappointed and felt trapped without being able to do anything. Considering the price for one night this definitely not meeting expectations.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice complex in a wonderful environment (the sunsets are amazing!). Spacious, comfortable and very clean rooms. Food is much better than the booking- comments let expect.
Cons: For us, the prescence of the daily tourists wasnt a problem; the complex is big enough and has seperated areas. The problem is, that most of the daily schedule is conceptualized for the daily visitors. For e.g.: Breakfast finishes already at 9 am - because of the arrival of the visitors at 10 am? And the tickets for snorkeling etc. are only available after the arrival of the daily tourists; boutique closes after the departure of the visitors as well. There is also a lack of attention by the leading staff members to the hotel guests; they should be more attentive and give the feeling to the guests that they are welcome. We had some little problems during our stay (no watter in the room, defect air condition, a very loud party in the neighbourhood) that werent really a problem and most of them had been fixed - but there was no comment, no excuse or no explanation at all. We never knew, if there is a manager or someone who has the overview about the hotel and the guests. The check out procedure was kind of unfriendly. There was a deprecating reaction of the receptionist, when we wanted to see the facture (drinks, minibar etc) before paying - no goodbye or questions, about the quality of our stay. PS: we‘re not from colombia, we‘re from switzerland
7.1 Good
Pros: Let's start saying that it is not easy to evaluate our staying here. First of all, we decided to book 4 days here due to the fact we had to cancel our trip to Providencia due to bad weather conditions, and we HAD to find an alternative very quickly. We were looking for secluded beaches, no mass tourism, crystal waters where to spend 4 days in paradise. Hotel Isla del Encanto does not match even one of the above :-( OUR BUNGALOW: we had a great sea-facing Bungalow, spacious and clean. 2 very comfortable beds, a very beautiful terrace, flowers and birds around us. SWIMMING POOL: The swimming pool area is very nice, and only hotel guests have access here. The staff members are helpful and friendly, and the entire resort is incredibily clean and very well mantained. There is a wonderful big tropical tree just in front of the reception which give shadow and repair to guests and birds and also a quite comfortable restaurant area, also for guests only. SERVICES: The snorkeling agency operating is this resort is also really really professional. We did both snorkeling and buceo and the instructor/guide was always focused on our safety. They also provide some very good underwater videos and pictures with their GoPro and first class gears too.
Cons: HOTEL BEACH: The hotel beach is a small, overcrowed, suffocating beach. It is the place where both Hotel guests and people coming with organized day-trips hang out, so for me that was a NO-GO, and decided to lay down by the pool instead (which is good, more exclusive, and above all, a place where only hotel guests are allowed to stay) The water also was disappointing. It was nothing special. No caribbean at all! Sands + hundreds of people swimming in a very small beach makes the water very opaque. What a delusion considering we were expecting something similar to Providencia :-( SERVICES: The Hotel is part of a busy and very crowded day-trips from Cartagena. Every day from 3 to 5 boats full of people arrive at this place at 10 am and leave at 3 pm. It's a mess. So if you want to be alone with only the sea waves sound in your ears, this is not the right place. Loud music and children screams all day long. Moreover, it looked to me that the hotel services and staff were much more dedicated to people part of the daily trips from Cartagena rather that regularests, and that was also quite disappointing. Once you are in the Hotel, you have 3/4 activities to choose: snorkeling, diving, or visiting the acquarium. All these activites are shared with the daily-trip guests too. No chance to have a private snorkeling tour in Isla Grande, or organize something by yourself. You may feel a bit locked up. FOOD & BEVERAGES: As Italian, my standards are quite high, I know. I don't want to look too demanding, so I just say the food quality here was AVERAGE. After 3 days we had basically the same food every day I have noticed that other guests were having lobsters and grilled fresh fishes, while I only had what available at buffet. We discovered that there was the opportunity to try different (and better) food (like langustines, lobsters, red snappers, etc..) at an extra price.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very nice location, nice room and nice staff
Cons: Tourists come from Cartagena only for the day and there are many many people from 10 am till 3 pm, which makes the place not so cool and a bit dirty. But it's a very nice place when they have all gone. Also good to know : the pool is with salted water (very very salted)
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: From my point of view, this hotel doesn’t deserve the mention of “Hotel”. Because, everyday there are four boats of around 80 outside customers who are arriving at the hotel for a day tour. It is 4 times more than the in guest customers who paid a very expensive price for a night stay. It is not my concept of hotel which is made of some privacy and relaxation. The hotel is globally overrated, doesn’t worth the price. The beach is not as blue as shown on the picture. The food offered is very basic. The hotel manager Jaime seems to be polite and honest at first, but we found out that he lied to us about couple of subjects. One of them, was the access to the private part by customer on Day trip.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were clean, beutifull, the beach is very nice, food and service was also excelent. Its a perfect place to relax and enjoy. Eveyrthing is comfortable, and there are parts of the hotel reserved for ovenight guests
Cons: everything was good
6.3 Good
Pros: The proprety is well kept and the service is great! The food gets 3+ stars, because food choices were the same for B, L and D for all 3 days, otherwise, it was quite good. The room is large and the private pool areas and beach are nice. From Cartegena, Isla Baru will provide transportation from your hotel to the dock where you will enjoy a one hour boat ride to the resort. Too, The hotel will provide transportation at 3pm each day back to Cartegena.
Cons: First, I received a bacteria from the first night's dinner which took a full day to recover from. Second, the beach area is small which is approimately 30 yards and shared with the daytrippers (100 people plus hotel guests is crowded). From the pictures it appears that you can walk 100 yards plus on a beautiful sandy beach which is partially true. *Management warned us that we would not be protected if we walked past or outside the property lines. Next to the hotel is a campsite and beyond that is a BnB, both appear to be safe. Third, the property is an island 1 minute by boat across from Isla Baru which is NOT indicated on the website. So if you have to leave before or after 3pm, the cost per person to take a boat to Isla Baru is US$22 for two and the cost for a taxi is US$100. FYI you can walk approximately 10 min where a boat will take you across to Isla Baru for $1.00 US or from the campsite or BnB area for a fee.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything from food to customer service Everything about this place was on point Customer services is in another level We stayed to see the sunrise and they send us coffee near the water
Cons: The daily visitors other than that this place is magic

Overview Reviews
Nestled on the beach, this Cartagena property is 7.6 mi (12.2 km) from National Aviary of Colombia and 8.6 mi (13.9 km) from Blanca Beach. Corales del Rosario National Park and Neo-Gothic Church Ruins are also within 16 mi (25 km).
7.3 Good
Pros: Gardens and facilities in general
Cons: Lobby personal, They are rude.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I thought the staff was nice, unlike some people who have had issues. Beautiful grounds, beach, pools are HUGE.
Cons: Food was just okay.
5.8 Okay
Cons: Our deck had dog poop on it. Staff cleaned it up as soon as we pointed it out.
7.9 Good
Pros: Beautiful location
Cons: Being all inclusive, food was poor. Beer and wine choices, only 2. Wine was aweful, I dont like craft beer so Budweiser was the other choice, being in Colombia I expected Aguilla. Staff wasn't the friendliest either. Check in was very chaotic, ruined my day 1 pool time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: The WiFi is bad
7.9 Good
Pros: The best part was the beach gorgeous and relaxing.
Cons: Too many people and food is only okay liquor also only okay. Shower small and too dark you can’t see .
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location
Cons: The Weather
6.7 Good
Pros: Great location and facilities
Cons: Staff is not as kind as they should, the service in general needs to improve. People in the entrance and front desk should help you, not worsen your stay.
6.3 Good
Pros: The view of our room was nice.
Cons: The food was not good. The snorkeling trip we booked was not good at all.
6.7 Good
Pros: The place is gorgeous it is situated in a prime spot. The people are so kind and provide excellent service. The beaches are beautiful and well kept.
Cons: That the rooms didn't have refrigerators, iron or ironing boards. The blow dryers need to be updated. The safe should be digital. The room was a nice space but furniture should be updated. The facility is enormous golf carts should be available upon request to move you around the facilities. The pool should have an inside bar so the guest do not need to get out of the pool every time they need a drink. By the beach they should provide staff to take order as well. More places where to exchange your beach towels. Food should be available 24 hours there was a gap between 5 - 6:30 pm. Servers and preparers should where gloves while making and displaying the food.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Unfortunately nothing, only positive thing was the night that we dinner see food.
Cons: Food and drinks a very low quality. Drinks for pool/beach are served in a very very small glass, I'm very disappointed with that. Diner closed before stated in check-in details. Very few options. Wi-Fi connection is extremely poor, I got disconnected every 5 mins, I never experienced something like that. Reservation method for dinner is a disaster and super bad organized.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: the location and the beach, the splendid vegetation, the huge space, the weather (32 degrees, sun for 13 consecutive days in january), the calm, the sweetness of the staff, the size of the decameron-plus room and its terrace and ocean view...perhaps the most relaxing experience ever
Cons: the unreliability of internet, the food (very ordinary for an all-inclusive resort of that category, specially the buffets at noon and dinner), the antiquated shower system in the bathroom, the frequent lack of hot water, the closing of the water system some times in the night without any warning, the absence of cash machine...would not advise wheel-chair users or anyone with leg problems, because of the numerous stairs

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful. Serene. We didn’t have problems with noisy music from the boats. Staff was fabulous. Boat ride through the area is not to be missed along with snorkeling!
Cons: A little store to buy snacks and drinks would be great.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good staff and location
Cons: No hot water to shower...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is a paradise. Rooms are really comfortable and clean and the hotel is a secluded paradise. Staff is incredible and are always willing to give you the best treatment. Owners are very interested in the well being of the guests and they are always working on ways to improve the hotel. The location is espectacular. Beautiful nature and weather. It is a perfect place to disconnect from the outside. Food is also amazing. We definitely recommend this hotel!
6.3 Good
Pros: Loved the location, the remoteness. Staff was great, very helpful and personal. Did absolutely enjoy the beautiful location.
Cons: Place seemed a bit run down compared with the pictures on booking.com. Could use some new chairs. Bit overpriced.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We loved the tranquility of the place, it's proximity to a healthy reef (good snorkeling), white sand beaches and the feeling that we were in a remote and exotic place, though it's less than an hour boat ride from Cartagena. The lodging is rustic but comfortable in palm-thatched huts (air conditioned, though we never used it). The food was simple and delicious fare and the folks on the staff -- Ena, Ingris and Will, and the owner, Fernando -- are attentive and helpful. By the end of our stay we felt like we'd made new friends.
Cons: Nothing to do with the hotel, but the partying in the bay, with loud music coming off the boats in the afternoon, is a little disconcerting.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Luis is a great host. People here makes you feel you are family it’s not like you rent a place it’s like you own it for a while. Go to the deck and connect with the sea is a must. I have to come back and stay for a whole week. Refreshing experience. Not to mention the food which is fresh and delicious. The perfect mix of fancy and natural environment. The room was perfect I slept like a baby.
Cons: What is not to like??
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Many thanks to all the staff, everyone was very kind with us. The food was excellent (thank you for the homemade ice cream!), we enjoyed so much the boat trip organized by the hotel to go snorkeling. The room was very clean, the decoration of the common areas is very well done. The fact that there is only 4 rooms + a lot of common areas to relax is a huge plus.
Cons: Nothing! Just to mention that during the days there is music from the boats staying in the bay, but this has nothing to do with the hotel itself.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A very unique and special place. The staff is amazing. If you want pampered luxury this is not your place. If you want an unforgettable experience, it is. Indididualized attention is the rule of the house — with only four rooms it is amazing.
Cons: A softer pillow would be nice. Other than that — perfect
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It is a lovely place, very cozy, eco-friendly in the middle of the green Barú. The service was excellent, very personalized as it is a small hotel with few rooms. All the staff was very attentive and always very helpful, and made of our stay a wonderful time. They gave us useful suggestions and help us to organize activities at Rosario Islands.
Cons: The noice coming from the party boats located at El Cholon!!! Although it’s far from the hotel you can hear the loud music and it can be really annoying, specially during weekends. From around 10 am to 6 pm the peaceful environment is sadly disturbed by these boats. A pity because Barú is a natural reserve and authorities should ban these party boats.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: both property and location were fabulous. We loved the design and use of natural materials in construction and decor. We loved the careful management and preservation of the natural environment by the owners, especially the mangroves, and the gardens are like a botanical garden. The swimming in the Caribbean was gorgeous and the new pool is lovely and relaxing. The staff were verythozghtful and we really enjoyed our special diinner near the water and the beautiful way it was presented. The snorkelling trip was wonderful and we also enjoyed canoeing round the neighbouring islands. The chef is excellent.
Cons: The one and only downside was the noisy music and jet sks from party boats coming from Cartagena at the weekend and morring at the island in front. As this is national park it is a pity that the Colombian government agencies permitt activity that damages both environment and the tourist trade.
Hostal Buena Onda - Barú - Building

8.5 Excellent (581 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Fully constructed in bamboo, Buena Onda Hostal is set in Playa Blanca and offers environmental-friendly accommodation 34 km from Cartagena de Indias. Barú is 12 km away. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant. Rooms in Buena Onda Hostal are fitted with fans and mosquito nets. Some rooms include a private bathroom with a shower and sea views. You will find a 24-hour front desk at the property along with a bar. Isla del Rosario is 21 km from Hostal Buena Onda, while Isla Barú is 4.2 km away.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Staff was friendly enough, and they helped us with a cash shortage issue.
Cons: No wifi even though the welcome email stated it was available 24h/day; power is off during the day. Lots of people with disputes and yelling -- restaurant staff, cleaning lady... No running water, just a bucket system. Beach vendors are frequent and aggressive.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location is good, but lots of boat traffic and parking right in front of the hostel, so the air was pretty thick with engine fumes at times. There is a roped-off swimming area close to the hostel but you can't swim directly in front of the hostel. If I did it again I would probably stay a bit further to the east, since you can swim in open ocean and it gets less busy down that way.
Cons: We stayed in one of the larger rooms, which was on the bottom floor, and this room was not particularly comfortable. It was fairly dark and very warm. The smaller rooms looked nicer as they had a view of the ocean and more light. Luckily there are fans on the ceiling that can be turned on at night, but one of the bunks didn't get any air, which made for a sweaty sleep. The wifi has a maximum of 8 people connected at a time, so none of us actually were able to connect.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Playa Blanca is laid back, undeveloped, just like this hostal. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The food is good enough and the prices are about middle of the bunch on the beach (the whole place is overpriced). Expected since it is pretty isolated spot. Not much English here but I got by.
Cons: It would be nice if I could have paid at time of online booking. After I booked, I received emails instructing me to wire or deposit money to the hotel!!! I did not comply with this request but email confirmed my reservation. This caused confusion and fear that my reservation would be voided. When I showed up, they acted like they didn't know me or my reservation. I had to insist and show my confirmation email a few times before they gave me the sea view room I reserved. A little stressful.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location is great: nice beach area away from the busiest area. Beach chairs and umbrellas are provided for guests. The man who runs it, Guillermo, is very friendly. These are basic accommodations. We enjoyed our stay and liked the friendly staff. Location was particularly enjoyable after the day trip guests departed in mid afternoon.
Cons: The property requires a Western Union money transfer pre-stay, which cost me an additional fee to make. Communication was a little difficult and details of our stay, including that we had paid for prepaid for breakfast, were not passed onto the property. This was all sorted out eventually, due to the helpfulness of the staff on location.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The hostel had free sunloungers and benches to use, which was great and offered some respite from the beach vendors.
Cons: The shower wasn't a shower, but a bucket with a small nozzle (like those that you pour water from a water cooler in to a glass, and there was a limit as to how much water 1 person could use). It was essentially useless. The rooms (without sea view/balcony) were absolutely sweltering and stuffy - me and 3 friends got no more than 2 hours sleep per night due to the intense heat. 2 fans couldn't help matters much. The energy was turned off at 6am every morning, so the fans went off and the room heated up even more - we were dripping with sweat by 6:30am and had to get up. We also had to wear earplugs as music was played from 6:30am every day. All in all, I wish we'd spent more money for somewhere with AC, as it ruined our trip.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location and staff were great
Cons: Noise outside the room until late at night, people that work in the hostal should have said something to the people making all the noises
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and service quality. Mr Guillermo is the best.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Literally nothing
Cons: Dark damp rooms, poor sanitation, ineffective mosquito nets. The photo is nothing like the room we stayed in
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner is a friendly, kind and helpful man. I loved my second storey room with a balcony and hammock. It’s very rustic ie cold water, trickle shower but that’s what it’s like on Playa Blanca. There’s a double bed and mosquito net Really enjoyed my stay
Cons: Nothing!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Always ask the owners! They are super helpful with bookings, tours, informations etc!! Very very nice guys!!
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Agu Azul Beach Resort Hotel Boutique in Cartagena, you'll be 8.5 mi (13.7 km) from Blanca Beach and 29.9 mi (48.1 km) from Jaime Moron Stadium. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge during limited hours.
6.7 Good
Pros: Great location and the beach! Nice cozy house
Cons: Very slow service. It is ok to wait for the food but when you get bottle of water after three times asking and 45 mins -it is too much for such expensive price per night. I definitely think hotel is overpriced.
6.7 Good
Pros: Beautiful location, staff very friendly.
Cons: Service was very slow and often had to repeat orders. The beach is not exclusively for hotel guests, lots of boats coming and going all day. Housekeeping was not 4 star standard.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Unusual property. Like a beautiful beach home.
Cons: Over priced and beach was really busy and noisy with party boats.
6.7 Good
Pros: Really beautiful hotel. One staff member and the cleaning ladies were very nice and caring. Beautiful, very lonely beach (even private in the mornings and evenings when the tour participants are gone). Overall very beautiful hotel with very beautiful rooms.
Cons: When we were planning to go there, there was no chance to get in contact with the hotel (mail or telephone) in order to pick us up which then led us to do it by ourselves (land & sea) and that turned out extremely stressful, expensive and due to high Sea even dangerous. When we arrived completely soaked wet they told us that the person with this number is currently on Holiday... Overall, the staff was mostly not attentive. If you order food, you’re lucky if you get the entire meal and not just parts of it. Food is quite expensive as the hotel is the ONLY thing on the island. Hence, prices are high and there’s nothing to do a which is great if you feel like it.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The staff is nice, not the manager though.
Cons: This place was horrible. The adds on booking.com and Google are not true and a couple of peaceful days there became a complete nightmare. We booked this place initially because it was advertised as having a "private beach" at the hotel and so we thought it would be the perfect place to enjoy a nice and relaxing weekend. Unfortunately, there is nothing private about the beach, or the hotel for that matter. Around 9:00 - 10:00am, excursion boats from EVERYWHERE around the hotel appeared and stopped at the beach. We had about 20 excursion boats come to the "private" beach with VERY LOUD music, drunk tourists, and loads of kids screaming. The worst part of it all was that we (PAYING CUSTOMERS) couldn't even enjoy the facilities we paid for, like the swimming pool. Children on these tours (who, again, were NOT paying for the hotel and who were NOT guests) went straight to the swimming pool. It was so full and such a mess that we couldn't even read a book nearby, or swim. A REAL SHAME TO TREAT PEOPLE WHO PAY A LOT OF MONEY TO STAY THERE. Even worse, one boat full of drunk tourists stopped at the beach with extremely loud music, and bothering us. Given that this was meant to be a "private beach", we went and complained to the staff, only to have these tourists threatening us (actual death threats) and the men showing us their "intimate parts". Just horrible. At the end of the day, there is NO POINT in staying there. You pay the full price for nothing. You might as well stay somewhere else and go there during the day with one of those excursions boats, since the hotel allows anyone to be there and do whatever they want at the hotel the whole day. ADVICE TO THE MANAGEMENT - If people PAY (and this is an expensive hotel) to stay at your property, then the least you can do is honor what you promised (private beach), and not let EVERYONE who stops by the beach to use your facilities. This is not fair for those who pay.
7.9 Good
Pros: The owner was very hospitable and the hotel is on a beautiful beautiful beach. The rooms were spacious, particularly the suite on the first floor.
Cons: The hotel staff didn't do anything to keep out the day trippers who invaded all the hotel spaces and particularly the pool to the extent to which it was impossible to use during the day. The influx of boats also means that there was a permanent smell of gas-oil on the beach. The food wasn't very good either which was a shame.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The beach is espectacular and the room is very pleasant! I loved the pool as well. The drinks also are very good. The beach is worth the whole trip.
Cons: Property is not exclusive to hotel guests. The beach is invaded by all sorts of boats parking in the swimming areas. It would be great if the hotel could set aside "parking" space for these boats at one side of the beach to ensure safety and comfort of the guests enjoying the beach. The food seems overpriced for what it is. The dishes are rather basic but prices are triple of regular. Maybe it was the distance to the city which made them expensive. Vendors are allowed on the premises and you get constantly interrupted by them.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful place to stay a couple of days. Clean, great staff, good food, though a little pricey. The property has its own boat that for some extra can take you to nearby islands where you can find pristine beaches.
Cons: Between 10:30 and 15:00 hours tourists from Cartagena arriving by boats swarm the the beach.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location and outside of the hotel are great
Cons: Rooms, food and quality of staff is poor. This hotel is very very overpriced. The price is 5 star but besides the location i dont see any star. Staff is friendly but totally unexperienced. They forget your orders all the time. People from the beach (no guests) go swim in the hotel pool and this is allowed!!
6.7 Good
Pros: Beautiful destination, nice landscape, warm sea water....

6.3 Good
Pros: The staff was really nice and welcoming. The atmosphere was really friendly and not at all greedy & touristic like is felt around the island. The bed was super comfy!
Cons: The facilities are really basic & simple. Could be made a bit more comfy with various details...Food was not served there, and what was called "Shared kitchen" was in effect only the ability to use the kitchen's ustensiles etc.,without cooking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, not too quiet or not too busy. Nice rooms and good breakfast, no wifi
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing, right on the beach. We slept next to the sea for three nights. Gabrielle the owner will make you feel at home and look after you well. This is a place were you can totally unwind and relax. Beers and food here are good and fairly priced compared to the rest of the beach. We did the night time plankton tour from the hotel it was the best plankton we had ever seen. The water is amazing and warm, the beach is well looked after and there is plenty of room to relax on sun beds/hammocks. Me and my partner stayed here for three nights and had a n amazing time. Showers are fresh water each day from buckets but we didn’t mind this and it added to the authenticity of it all. The place runs off a generator at night time so you can charge phones ect. There is no WiFi which was a treat. You can also use snorkelling equipment from the hotel free of charge and snorkel off the beach. If you want the beach pretty much to yourselves try and head here Monday to Friday and avoid weekends, as it gets a lot busier with local tourists on weekends. We paid 50,000 COP for a return bus from Cartagena to this beach Playa Blanca, however you can also take a boat for a similar price. On the beach make sure you haggle for EVERYTHING!!! The cheapest drinks and food are from the people selling you stuff on the beach. This place has a sense of being off the beaten track (the gringo trail) we met few gringos on this beach. All I can say is I hope you enjoy as much as we did! Thanks guys for an amazing and unforgettable stay.
4.6 Okay
Pros: This is family owned hostel, the family memebers are very nice and helpful.
Cons: 1. They don't open the kitchen to public use. 2. They have limited on the water and electricty supply. You will only has electric power between 1830 and 2330 and you have only around 2L water to shower per day.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Located right on a beach paradise, Eduardo and Elizabeth are the most amazing hosts! So helpful and accommodating , nothing is too hard! If I ever come back I will definately be staying with them again. Can’t recommend them enough.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: I hated my entire experience.
Cons: THIS PLACE HAS BED BUGS. So unless you want to throw away everything you own, do not stay here. No electricity at ALL until 8pm and it’s on until 11:30pm. I couldn’t sleep because I felt like I was baking in that hut. I thought I bought the ocean view but they put you in one in the back unless you pay more once you get there. Absolutely terrible.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, great staff
Cons: The hostal is lovely and the staff are great, food is affordable but unfortunately the first night we had our backpacks robbed from our room with money and passports in. We were under the impression that there would be someone there all the time but when we got back to the hostal everything was dark. It was unfortunate as it could have been a good experience. Be careful with your belongings clearly there is a problem in the area with theft of tourist.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: The private beach is wonderful! Quite and relaxing! The room is big and clean, well equipped and comfortable. The dinner area on the beach just under the mangroves is very special. We had a very peaceful time, the staff also is very nice.
Cons: Restaurant and even water are quite expensive. Since you cannot go anywhere else from there, we would had expected at least some free water daily. Using lot of small expensive plastic bottles of water daily isn't really "Eco".
5.0 Okay
Pros: Beach was very nice, and had comfortable chairs to lay. Even though we did not enjoy the staff and food, we might come back just for the beach.
Cons: It's a trap! we got the all inclusive version for something like $100 extra and expected to eat and drink like kings. What a disappointment when we were told that we had a very restricted menu to choose from, and were only allowed ONE drink - including water! So we ended up paying for every drink - we each had something like 4 waters, 2 beers and a pinacolada per day, and in two days the total was already at $400 extra. When it is 35 degrees outside you will need more than one tiny bottle of water. Don't get all inclusive - for much cheaper you will be able to order from the menu and get so much more food and drinks. Staff is not friendly at all and makes you order your food way in advance so the cook can go home. It rained on the day we were supposed to leave the island, and the entire staff was missing! Rain is something that happens a lot in this region, but they let it stop them from doing anything. They delayed our departure by 1hr and we could not even have breakfast. t t Other cost that is not included: transportation to get there! Incredibly expensive and basically your only choice for getting there. They are not flexible with the times you can get there, and don't want you to arrive too early in the day, but make you leave early when you depart.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The white beach at this beach resort is simply beautiful and completely private. The water is calm and views stunning. The food was delicious and service great, no English speakers but managed with broken Spanish. It's a very simple place and perfect for complete relaxation. We did't try to do any activities but swim, read, eat, drink and relax.
Cons: The rooms are very basic, which was fine for us but the air-conditioning vent for the room above was outside our window so it was quite loud. You could also hear the neighbours talking and moving around. But we managed.
7.5 Good
Pros: We had three meals (all inclusive) and the food was good quality. The staff were very attentive and nice. The room was comfy and big. The beach is nice and clean and you can walk pretty far and see some parrots. Good communication on the phone for transportation to and from the mainland. To get to some good water we went snorkeling and it was awesome. Take a few hours at Isla de Bendita.
Cons: There was quite a bit of people in the hotel so not really 'private.' Although the beach is nice if you want clear clean water it's not here. If you want to swim and snorkel it's not here. I would stay on Isla de Rosario. The water is turned up a lot from wind after lunch and lots of seaweed. However you can take a 4 hour trip for snorkeling at various spots which has Caribbean blue water.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, really quite remote (which we loved) but still easy to get to. The staff was super helpful and friendly, lunch and dinner was great, breakfast a little sparse. It was such a relaxed place for us, traveling with three little kids. We were the only guests with kids during our stay.
Cons: What broke my heart were two beautiful birds in a tiny, tiny cage - so unnecessary in many ways, especially considering the beautiful wildlife.. Breakfast was ok but has definitely some room for improvement. Maybe one hangout area for rainy days (happened to us) would be nice
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We spent 2 nights here, (a Friday & Saturday) and had the entire place to ourselves. The staff were fabulous and the food exquisite. The beach is beautiful, a true paradise.
Cons: The fridge in the room was a little too noisy, but I'm being picky.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We, as a couple, had an extremely pleasant week at this hotel. We particularly liked the beautiful quiet and uncrowded place (about 7 or 8 rooms and some outside visitors during the day - between 10 and 3pm-) ideal for some rest, between sunbathing, swimming and cocktails. Our room was spacious, comfortable, quiet and very clean. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The hotel offers a few excursions and activities (relatively costly but still reasonable). Transport between the airport and the hotel (taxi and lancha) is very well organised and flexible but remains a bit expensive (we paid 500k pesos for round trip).
Cons: Transportation from the airport to the hotel was a little expensive. But very efficient anyway!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Luife our waiter was terrific and very helpful, especially as our Spanish is limited.
Cons: The food and drink were adequate with generous portions, but more diverse options would have been appreciated.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazingly located. Beautifully quiet. Just beach and the lodge. 30 guests max.
Cons: Ask for the new rooms, which are vastly better
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: A couple of the staff were very nice
Cons: Wouldn’t know where to begin

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place, private beach and Manuel will take care of everything you need to make you feel confortable. Mercedes was the chef and she really knows how to cook tradicional dishes. Is was and amazing experience and we will definitely come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house, the location, the food so everything else was great. Really great. Feels like paradise.
Cons: We were picked up at the airport in the late afternoon and with a private boat we arrived at the house. All very comfortable. However the costs for this service were a bit high compared to the costs for the house.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The house has an absolutely outstanding location several hundred meters away from the next one (if any). A very friendly, local family caters for you. Bring your own food; they cook for you - otherwise the trip on foot/boat to the the bit run-down village (various small but sufficient mercados and fresh fruit) is worthwile for being very adventurous and instructive. In the alternative, you can walk approx. 10 minutes along the beach to a hotel with good cooking. We travelled to the house by taxi from Cartagena (COP 120'000 one way for 2 adults, 2 children) and chartered a boat at Playetas (COP 170'000 one way) a bit further southwest from Playa Blanca; the road appears to get very bad thereafter; you would need a 4WD that will only bring you to the village of Barú from which you would still have to walk or take a boat). You can use a kayak and venture along the coastline. Do not try to debark at the estate at the tip of Barú Peninsula to the right; it is owned by a wealthy guy, and armed guards will fend you off.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Most incredible location ever. Very private and the staff helps make it enjoyable with local cooking.
Cons: It wasn't clear that running water on the island is a challenge. Showers we're almost non-existent due to the limited water supply and pressure. Also... Manuel is great but he doesn't communicate all the options on how to get to the property well. There is an option he doesn't list initially which is to drive to the island and take a private local boat to the property. Figuring that out was a needlessly painful process. Also for that option expect to pay 300 to 350,000 COP each way which adds significantly to the cost of staying here. One last thing: Even though there are multiple photos of a catamaran... they don't let you use it which I was very disappointed with.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable and private. So relaxing. We paid extra for Lenni to prepare meals. A real treat. We loved the feel of being on our own private island
Cons: It was expensive to get to and from Cartagena to the island but there was just three of us. With more people it would be cheaper.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! The location, the house, the experience, but the best things are the beach and Manuel and his family. They are caring, professional, honest, and fun. My family and I had a wonderful time. The surroundings are just rich of life. I will recommend this place to everyone who wants to experience the beautiful life of a paradise in Colombia.
La Cabana de Geronimo - Barú - Building

8.2 Excellent (655 reviews)
6.7 Good
Pros: Breakfast was okay
Cons: Bed were smelly
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We rented the second floor room with a beach view, it had a private shower and bathroom. It was a good size room, the beds were comfortable and you can hear the waves 24 hours. There were two fans. Beautiful view. It was clean and no bugs. If you want to rent a comfortable cabana, with a great view and private facilities, this place is for you.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The cabin was directly fronting the beach so if you dont mind the long walk. It is a good place.
Cons: It was very far from the main entrance. We were not informed. It was a very long walk in the beachfront. It was very uncomfortable especially if you have a lot of things you bring with you and kids too.
6.7 Good
Pros: It’s a really nice place and we enjoyed it but don’t have too high expectations - see below.
Cons: Everywhere you can hear other people in rooms. We started in a 4 persons room which actually is expensive if it’s only the two of you but changed to a 2 persons room which was a lot better in terms of price. Don’t expect your own balcony - it’s more a common area; you actually don’t need one. Food is nothing special (anywhere on the beach) unfortunately. Beach is beautiful and loads of good options to buy on the beach from sellers.
4.2 Okay
Pros: The free umbrellas and chairs at the beach
Cons: The hotel is right where hoards of daybeach goers disembark. The water is so busy they have a small enclosed area to swim. The room has just enough space for a bed. We couldnt even extend the pullout bed completly. No clothes line to hang your clothes ( you will have plenty of wet stuff) and no place to put them but the bed or the dirty floor. The badroom has almost no water. You basically get a wooden box with a bed. We travelled all over southeast asia and this is by by far the worst value for money hotel we ever stayed. We left one day earlier and happily lost the last night.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location on the beach and staff. The staff was awesome and made the stay better. Beach is beautiful and the bar is open late with great music. The bartender was awesome and very helpful when needed. The location is perfect and away from the crowds. It’s busy but 90% less busy than the front part of the beach. The walk is worth the privacy you get.
Cons: It’s 20 minutes from the cab drop off to the property. The walk is through the water or sand. It’s a beautiful walk but important that guest know that it’s almost impossible with bags that you can’t carry on your back or lift the entire time. This for me was only tolerable for a short trip. It was very hot and sand covered the floors and beds. It was like sleeping on sand paper. There was a shower but no pressure and impossible to shower more than one person. At night the room smelt of an outhouse and we had to keep the door open, as unsafe as it felt, to tolerate the heat and smell.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was so friendly and helpful, even with a language barrier...it made it that much more fun! For the price the room was great and what I expected - be prepared for the heat! Their is no AC on this beach anywhere. If you’re looking for luxury accommodations, it does not exist on this beach... but the beach cabanas and hut hostels make it a fun adventure!
Cons: When you arrive via shuttle in the main lot they drop you off, face the ocean and go RIGHT. If you are using Google Maps, it will tell you to go left which is not true. Not a hostel problem, just a phone problem! Hostels to the right while facing ocean!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was Good, owner was very friendly and made you feel welcome
7.1 Good
Pros: The location and beach area was excellent. The bar/kitchen was super accommodating.
Cons: You basically had to beg the guy in charge for towels or toilet paper.

Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours).
6.3 Good
Pros: Steps to the water. Nice lounge chairs.
Cons: Very rustic which is fine. Shower was a pvc pipe and it shut off after a few minutes. Toilet was a self flush toilet. It was very noisy between 10-5pm due to music being blasted from all directions. And hammering next door. Crowds do not leave until 5, I read 3. The room itself is basic which is fine. Locked with a small padlock. You can hear what’s going on in every other room. It just wasn’t as peaceful as i had hoped. But it literally is steps away from crystal blue water. I would not book anything through the hotel. I was told I’d have transport to the Rosario islands where I could snorkel at my leisure and walk along beaches at no extra cost. I was also told I’d be picked up at 9. By 10:30 I was picked up and found out I was on a tour and had to snorkel a dead reef for 35,000 copas or stay on the boat. Then I was told at the end I didn’t pay for the tour I never wanted. I told them I paid hector what he said was the cost and to work it out with him. The guide seemed sketchy though so maybe he was just trying to squeeze more money out of me. One of the worst days I spent on vacation. Make sure if you do book with hector you get ALL the details AND a receipt.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Not too crowded.
7.1 Good
Pros: Like all the accommodation in the area, it’s located directly on the beach. The room is small and very basic; a bed and a fan, but we fell asleep listening to the waves and woke up to an ocean view from our patio. Check out was 12 pm but Hector kept our luggage and let us hang out and use the beach chairs until we left at 4:30.
Cons: It’s at the end of the beach so a long walk if you choose to arrive by moto taxi.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is great, right at the beautiful beach, so you walk from your room directly to the sea☺. Place has also restaurant and provide you with beach beds and umbrellas right at the front of the hotel and there are sun beds on terrace from where you can enjoy sunset every evening. The place is great for relax in between traveling. Thanks a lot Anderson for your hospitality. Andrea and Barbora
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The food was amazing so was the location... away from the crowded area
Cons: N/a
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Far away from the crowds in playa blanca, almost at the end of the beach. Loved the eco hotel part of it. No electricity between 9am- 7pm
Cons: Hard to reach during the day with the crowds. Had to use a lancha to get to the hotel.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect. Away from the big crowds right at the start of Playa Blanca as it's the second last accommodation on the beach to the right, bit of a walk (even with big backpacks but worth it). the staff very chill, they provide a kayak to use for free and a float bed thing for the sea. 8 sun beds just like a metre it 2 from beach. The hostel is Max 6 metres from the water which is great. They have WiFi at certain times during the day. Which is quick enough also. Just ask the guy to turn on WiFi. I think they try conserve most energy because they are run on solar panels so no need for electricity to be on full time. Water for shower is normal temp, not hot or anything. But that was a good thing because you'll be roasting hot from the general outside temperature anyway so it's a good way to cool down. All in all I'd definitely recommend it . They provide mosquito nets and room very clean and didn't see one bug at all in room.
Cons: Not that I didn't like it but just giving a few points that others might say. Yes it's a bit of walk to get there if you've got a bus to Playa Blanca. But on the grand scheme of things your away from all the craziness down the other end of the beach. There's only a small bit of water for a shower but it's the same in every hostel I'd say. The place is very isolated for getting running water to or anything. But that makes it kind of cool. Electricity in rooms only after 7pm or so when sun goes down. But it's necessary because they run on solar energy which is kinda cool.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good location far down the beach away from the busiest areas (it is a good 30 minute walk from the car park so bear that in mind) and the sea here is really nice and free from rocks. Free kayak for guests to use. Shower of sorts (they give you a few litres attached to a shower head and once it's gone it's gone, but it was enough for me to shower & wash my hair fine). Room was nice and airy, with a fan and big mozzie net over the bed, although there were no mozzies in the room. Sun loungers on the beach and up on the balcony which are free for guests. Very clean.
Cons: Nothing really, it was really good given the very basic conditions (no running water, limited electricity) on the whole of Playa Blanca. Food was a little expensive compared to the restaurants nearby.
7.5 Good
Pros: It's straight on the beach and the staff is friendly and helpful.
Cons: The place is in the middle of nowhere. You have to use boat or take a taxi and walk 30-40 minutes on the beach. There is no wifi and not enough running water for shower. And of course the water is cold.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The bedding is very clean, there is a mosquito net which kind of helps. The employees are very helpful, but only speak Spanish. The Location is perfect, directly at the beach. Sunbeds are available for free. It's pretty quiet, unless someone plays some music.
Cons: There is only a small amount of water available. If you are a woman, don't expect to wash your hair during your stay. There are also no towels. The breakfast is really tiny, even for a woman. You can buy some additional food from the merchants walking along the beach. There is no milk for coffee. The next supermarket is... I don't know where....

Cons: Not much really.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very close to sea
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: The food was great and not over priced! Waking up to look at the calm sea was spectaculae
Cons: It was super noizy. Also the toilet was on the first floor and there was only 2L of for the shower per person/day. We arrived late and had booked a boat to come pick us up. Well when arriving the bost wasnt there and we needed to walk the whole beach until the hostel with heavy luggage. That wasnt nice.
6.7 Good
Pros: V3ry nice staff!
Cons: Not a good bathroom situation but the ocean is right infront
9.2 Excellent
Pros: At the very end of the beach :-) this is a perfect spot for detoxing Great host, friendly people and everything you need (water, food, a bed, electricity) Overall it was perfect!
Cons: Very loud over night as a generator is producing energy. At the very end of the beach - a long walk or ~5000 pp for a boat extra
5.4 Okay
Pros: La playa.
Cons: The bed sheets were dirty and the bed frame only had 4 boards holding up the mattress which made sleeping extremely uncomfortable.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was nice!! I just spent for 1 night. The receptions are so kind and friendly so that they took us to the party place!! Also they serve good meal not so expensive !!
Cons: Only cash is acceptable, no credit
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Elvis was fantastic. Catered to all our needs, no matter how big or small. Nice clean Spot on the beach.
7.5 Good
Pros: Super friendly and helpful staff and beautiful location, at the end of playa Blanca so removed from the touristic area!
Cons: No WiFi and the bathroom facilities were very basic.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean place, nice beach, using umbrellas included. Tasty breakfast. The owner speaks english a little.
Cons: Almost the last hostel on the beach - be prapare for 2km walk from The parking. But thanks to that less crowded. On Sunday lots of boats nearby and smell of petrol. Only one hammock on the balcony

Pros: Great location right on the beach
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The best spot on the playa Blanca for chilling. Delicious food and lovely staff. You live literally on the beach which is awesome
7.9 Good
Pros: Looked like the best option on the beach. Staff were SO nice and beach was amazing. Great beach chill zone.
Cons: Bathrooms were gross and the smell from the bathrooms wafted throughout the property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast, stunning location, friendly staff. Bathroom was kept super clean. Felt so relaxed we hardly left- we stayed for 3 nights and recommend staying this long if you can!
Cons: It would be great if there were more food options for vegetarians! :) Playa Blanca is suffering a bit from over-tourism, there was plastic in the water which made us sad :( but if every guest picked up some as they left it could be fixed!
7.9 Good
Pros: The staff was friendly and attentive to your needs and safety. The fresh fish entrees served by the hostel were OUTSTANDING! The tiki bar set the bar high for both decor as well as drinks! These guys really worked hard to build a memorable facility in a place that is not exactly fed by modern infrastructure.
Cons: If outhouses and a lack of running water are a deal-breaker for you, than Playa-Blanca may not be for you. I personally enjoyed myself regardless. The WiFi is patchy but 3g was available. The part that saddened me a bit was behind the resorts aligning the beach front, slightly hidden from view unless you make the effort to look is basically marshland. The locals clearly work hard to hide this area from plain sight of touristas. The spray insect repellant and whatever else is necessary to keep “undesirable” wildlife away from beach goers. I also noticed a substantial amount of trash dumped into the marsh in places. As a nature lover this was hard to see. The locals however work hard to give a GREAT beach experience.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The attention is really nice, they try to make it feel at home
Cons: They offer inside the Hostal a tour for plantom which i consider it wasn't good enough for the price
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is right on the beach - amazing sun set from the hostel! The room was really cute, gorgeous balcony with your own hammock and bench too. The bar/restaurant area was lovely, so many comfy places to chill out. The staff were great too :-) and the luminous plankton tour they do from the hostel was amazing, you have to do it!!
Cons: We knew they’d be bucket type showers but they’re really limited on water so be quick if you want one!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable beds, very nice and helpful staff. Wifi much more available than on other places on the beach (not working all the time but still available). Nice and clean room. Electricity and shower (once a day) available only in the evening but that's the standard on the island - unless you go to a hotel resort. The place was really cool, good vibes, nice relax area with hammocks and swings and generally pleasant altogether. Food and drinks for standard prices on the island (more expensive than in the city but this is normal here) and tasty. Loved their cocktails! Free sunbeds provided by the hostel. Card payments accepted (10% fee). Would stay again!
Cons: Sand everywhere!!! ...just kiddin, the place is great :-) Would love to come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great stay for a beach resort...if people are expecting 5 star luxury then dont stay at a beach, but to get down to nature and the beach was excellent. A very relaxing bar area with a very courteous host.

Pros: The location is perfect, the acomodations are great, staff very friendly and helpful

The property is about 1 hour’s drive from Cartagena de Indias city centre and about 90 minutes’ drive from Rafael Núñez International Airport.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was excellent, kind and carful. There is not private bathroom or running shower but I think is the same on the rest of the hostel at Baru. Overall the experience was good
Cons: The gasoline smell on the mornings. I think there is a gasoline refill near to the hostel
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner gave us much information about do's & dont's. He arranged some tours for us and we could rent his snorkel gear for free. He also speaks a little bit English.
Cons: It was a bit smelly sometimes because of the still water behind the hostal.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The beach is incredible. Jaime who runs the place was super helpful and nice. The rooms are great right on the beach such a beautiful place.
Cons: The hawkers can be a bit much but this is the quieter part of playa blanca.
6.7 Good
Pros: It was on the beach so you could hear the waves, easy access to long chairs and hammocks.
Cons: Loud generator overnight to have power (we were happy to have light and charge camera/phone) but also created white noise so one could still fall asleep. No running water meant having waves of smells coming from the bathroom when someone would flush. Not a lot of selection for food/restaurants, especially once day-trippers are one for the day, hard to find somewhere to have a bite. Also quite expensive and price hike for tourists (we bargained our lunch price down because it wasn’t advertised on a menu with prices). If we were to come back we’ed likely only do day trip. We stayed for the sunsets and both days got cloudy in the pm, so wasn’t worth it after all.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The view, is beautyfull, the hostel is verry small, 2 2persons little rooms with balkon sea view From the Side, Nice double bed and space to walk on one side. and one bick 4persons room with sea view in front and balcon They offer a verry Nice breakfast for 2, little 15.000 and big 20.000pos ( price 2019). Location direct at sea Nice Seats and table and relax bed’s, kajak avalible to hire. Lovely sea! Hostel Give feeling it just start, and will make it better step by step. Friendly helpfull staff. Spanish only. Lunch/ dinner you Will Find on the beach at more places.
Cons: Difficult to Find between all the hostels in one long line, we ask at the neighbour Where it was.. Shower is with a Bucket and cup, toilet is also with a big cup to flush. Clean and always Bucket ready to get for shower. When you go in sea,, don’t run in the sea, in front under water a some rocks, some are verry sharp.. if you walk 5/ 10m in the sea its rock free.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, literally feet away from paradise. Lovely beach hut rooms.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We loved staying here. Its situated on the more quit part op playa blanca. If you chose to stay here, you dont have the crowds and hassle. The owners are very Nice.
Cons: Dont expect any luxury. The rooms are open and the sea wind comes in. Showers and toilet is with buckets but clean. We knew before so we had No problem with that at all.
6.7 Good
Cons: The map location was way off. I called in about the location and the staff was very unhelpful.
7.5 Good
Pros: The cosy and simple vibe, the small rooms made with wood like real shed. Bathroom enough clean and in common.
Cons: We were looking for a room with sea view. Did not matter anything else. From the site this place had several accommodations with “sea view”, So we booked the room for 2 (one large bed). The thing is that this room was not in front of the sea, but behind another room (the one with 2 large beds) and the sea was barely visible from the balcony. We had to pay an extra to have the other room (That luckily was available).
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Princesa del Mar Family Cabaña in Cartagena, you'll be a 1-minute drive from Blanca Beach and 5 minutes from National Aviary of Colombia. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
6.7 Good
Pros: For Playa Blanca it might be the best location, since it’s at the end of the beach
Cons: The shower is next to the toilet, you’re allowed obe shower a day. Check out time on booking.com is not correct. Check out time on Booking.com says 12.00-12.30 the real check out time is before 11.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Sun, sea, beach! The staff and management are extremely friendly and went out of their way to cook us vegetarian food and help us shorten our stay when booking.com was being particularly unhelpful.
Cons: Having to ask to switch on the shower. Cabanas getting very sweaty at night. So best to sleep in the hammock or leave the door open.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good tratment and very friendly people I love the sea and for me the hotel is nice as well is comfortable and is more quiet ..maybe they could improve as to put more music in the day to make happy the place and that's all (Y)
Cons: They have to improve the breakfast and lunch for cheaper or offer a promo to get it that's it
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: the only thing good is the beach, the rest was really bad. It started at the car park, 15.000 pesos a day, then I guy try to help your lugage to 50 meter beach away for 10.000 pesos. Then you have to take the boot 30.000 pesos while on booking i read 20.000 pesos and the lady of the hostel say pay 10.000. The hostel named it is self on Google As : HOTEL, this is NOT a hotel it is a hostel. The menu card was big, but they only served three sort of meals during the evening, cats en dogs everywhere cats jumping in the kitchen, they make your pizza on a rusty dirty freezer, the toilet you have to clean with a cup seawater after doing your business, if you need cash they ask 20%! FEE, the staff if you complain just wake away, and if you cancel they charge you 50.000 pesos, NEVER AGAIN, you get ripped off everywhere and you are lucky if you wont get sick of food poisoning.

Pros: It’s calm, relaxing with very good people
Cons: The breakfast wasn’t included booking by booking
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely colourful hostel , great room on top floor with balcony, chairs and hammock. Friendly staff. Fun plankton experience with hostel. Comfortable space to sit in and relax
Cons: The food wasn’t that great. Fish over cooked and all a bit plain. Small portions at breakfast. WiFi not very strong.
5.8 Okay
Pros: After complaining the owner came up to apologize and that was nice. The view from the room was great! The ocean water was warm.
Cons: Staff was rude. Asked about towels many times and was told non were available at the time. Lunch took 2 hours to receive it. Front desk person seemed annoyed any time you asked a question. Mosquito net had blood on it. Showers did not work properly.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We loved this place...location is perfect as its the very last hostel is not too busy or crowded. The view, the sea, the food.
7.1 Good
Pros: Beachfront view, staff
Cons: Basic servicies such as water and electricity are not provided permanently. I dont know if its a problem of Baru or specific hostel.
7.5 Good
Pros: -We got the top floor room which had a great view, balcony was nice to relax. -Staff were super friendly - good location out of the noise - nice beach - good accommodation
Cons: I really liked the place but unfortunately the last night of our stay we organized a boat ride through the hostel staff to make it easy and discovered we we're massively ripped off immediately after being dropped off. Shame because it's hard to remember the good things

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location only if u want to stay in a quit and alone place
Cons: Is far and you have to pay extra to take a boat to the hostel
7.9 Good
Pros: Very lovely reception staff :) Amazing location!! Right on the beach overlooking the sea, with its own private beach, hammocks, sun loungers, volleyball and ping pong areas, games, restaurant, etc. You can also rent snorkelling gear and kayaks. A cocktail, welcome lunch and next day breakfast were all included in my transfer price from Media Luna in Cartagena. Would definitely recommend this little place in paradise for a night or two :)
Cons: It didn’t have a shared kitchen so you had no choice but to eat at the restaurant. Although the food was really good, I’d have liked to be able to bring some of my own food too.
7.9 Good
Pros: Everything else was fine. Food was delicious, the dorms were good, the beach was not turquoise and a bit rocky and not very deep, but for the price it was a good place to stay for one night. Would not recommend staying for longer.
Cons: They offer you to transport you from Cartagena and back for 100 000 COP. This, they day, includes a drink, lunch, and the there and back. The only thing not included is the port taxes. This was true until the return where we had to take a boat and then a car. The car was included but the boat was an extra 20 000! And they don't tell you this until you are away from the hostel and the boat guys expect payment. I payed as I was with others but seriously, I was furious that they outright lied to me. So suprise that private transport to the hostel was a bloody rip off
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were lovely and the food was fantastic. It's an ideal spot to get away and relax and do nothing. The hammocks were fantastic, the tunes and wifi were great and the badminton is good fun.
Cons: The rooms could be a bit nicer, particularly as we were on the bottom floor and didnt have a balcony. The space around is quite limited and you cant really go for walks. The sea isn't deep but its grand for a good sit.
5.8 Okay
Pros: This was an interesting hostel stay to say the least. It’s very secluded on it’s our area of the beach, no where to go and expensive to leave.
Cons: My friend and I got very sick so we needed to leave and get somewhere that had running water/electricity. This was tricky to negotiate. You get WiFi for 2 hours a day and electricity only after 6pm. You’re feed 3 meals a day so I’d suggest bringing snacks! Playa Blanca is more lively and would highly recommend staying in that area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Daisy is our host! She is very friendly, kind, loving and welcoming. I felt like home the whole time I was there, and all the hostel staff are genuinely loving people. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend anyone who wants a simply relaxed holiday to go there.
Cons: Missed sunset
5.4 Okay
Cons: Nice hostel and the private beach. However, super unorganised and doesn’t provide essential information. We booked the hostel thinking it is an easy access such as to other places in Isla Barú, as there were no information provided before booking. Unfortunately, only at the day we were informed about an extra charge of COP $125000 each to reach the place and come back (we weren’t the only ones). There was no other cheaper way to reach the hostel. Additionally, while waiting for departure we were told that someone is picking us up every 10minutes, however, it took more than an hour. Arrived there, were greeted nicely and received free lunch that was included in the price. Our room didn’t have the mosquito net and only after 4 times asking to provide it, it was given to us. Before reaching the hostel in Baru the person in Hostel Cartagena said it will be arranged for us to go back to Cartagena at around 12pm next day for the price we paid, as we had the bus leaving in the evening to Santa Marta and haven’t seen Cartagena itself yet (the plan was to explore Cartagena before leaving to Santa Marta). However in the morning the staff were pretending nothing was arranged by the people we have spoken with and we were told that there is no way we’re leaving before 3pm unless paying COP $125000 each of us again (however we weren’t also informed that we won’t get back by 12pm yesterday). To sum up, nice private beach, however the lack of information and not keeping the promises really made the stay unpleasant.
7.9 Good
Pros: Right on the beach with hammocks and lounge chairs. Staff is very helpful and accommodating. Food is good, but big portions! A nice little getaway.
Cons: Rooms do not have a locker or place to secure your valuables.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It’s a real Paradise on this earth!
Cons: I think they are working on details every single day. But there’s nothing to do, just stay in the nature with beers and enjoy the little problems you should encounter
5.4 Okay
Pros: The place is beautiful, sleeping right on the beach is a great feeling and a good way to relax and get away from everything.
Cons: Everything was expensive, even the water (that you couldn’t have any other way to drink) was charged. The staff was not very welcoming nor helpful, whenever I asked something they would answer me very annoyed and didn’t really try to make the staying remarkable. Another negative aspect (even though this is more personal) was the music: too loud, all the time going.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, excellent food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Central location and the staff are very friendly and always greeted us with a smile. Meeka was very helpful and could translate a lot of Spanish into English to allow us to enjoy our time more. Excellent place to sun bathe during the day, with plenty of shade if things get too hot for you.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners are a very lovely couple who’ll help you with anything. The food is de-li-cious and the hostel is right on the beach.
Cons: The matresses are a tad old but ok. Bring your earplugs because it is an old wooden house and therefore noisy. But it isn’t very disturbing.
7.1 Good
Pros: Super friendly family! Even if there's no electricity at first half of the day (which is everywhere the case on that beach - people have to use generators) - if you need help, the owners will help you out. And maybe the best Pizza all over the place ;)
6.3 Good
Pros: Perfect location on quiet end of beach. Friendly hosts. Room was clean and had nice view.
Cons: Not organised downstairs. Common area and restaurant were a mess. Other hostels are nicer near by. Didn’t really like Playa Blanca. Busy and boring at night
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful owner, good prices for beer and food, good food, nice spot at the beach
Cons: First time I used a toilet with a "manual" flush
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: If you want to shower, you have to pay for it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so friendly, helpful and accommodating. We had a couple hiccups with our trip (unrelated to the hostel) and they helped us sort everything out. We were in very safe hands.
Cons: Just be prepared for the accommodation to be quite basic. The area has limited electricity and no running water, so they have to ration their freshwater carefully. Otherwise because of the time of year there was a lot of music blasting on the beach and so many people - everything felt pretty crowded.

Cons: Bed was a bit rickety
5.4 Okay
Pros: They allowed us to pay for the room through bookings which was good because there are no cash point anywhere close (take cash)
Cons: Staff were not particularly friendly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The best of Lele is its stunning location, right on the beach just a few steps from a gorgeous sea, you sleep with the sound of the waves. Bed was big and comfortable, room was not hot with a constant breeze, and staff was very friendly.
Cons: Rooms are small, and a little table or shelf would help. The bathroom is not the ideal but we understand there is no running water people, so relax.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good location, comfortable bed (with mosquito net!), clean and nice staff.
Cons: Shortage of water for showers, but that's the case in all the hostels along the beach. They could maybe make it a bit more cozy for the nighttime.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything from this hostel. The 2 guys in charge were very helpfull and very friendly. It's right on the beach, every bedroom has a nice seaview ( you can see the view from my picture ) There is a private beach with sun chairs and umbrella. We had a problem with a guy from the jetski company on the island who stole some money from my phone when i asked him to take a picture of me and my girlfriend with my phone. The boss from the hostel came straight away and helped me to get my money back, ( it was not his business because this guy had nothing to do with the hostel ). We got our money back and the boss made me and my girlfriend feel super safe ! Thanks for that. If you want to know something you just have to ask them, they know everything and everybody around. Thanks again !!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Paradise! You wake up with the view on the magical Caribean sea, in your own cabaña. They have electricity only at night, also fen in the rooms. Toilets were super clean, good shower, cheap breakfast with eggs in the morning. It is very cheap for what you get honestly. Playa Blanca is my top place in Colombia.
Cons: No kitchen - you should eat out in pricy restaurants, or bring your stove
5.4 Okay
Pros: good location, middle of the beach
Cons: very simple, basic sleeping place
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Nice location in the quieter part of the beach
Cons: 1. the room was tiny and literally a cardboard box 2. no visible reception, no proper check-in 3. uncomfortable beds with questionable sheets and missing mosquito nets 4. one shower could not be locked, both didn’t work 5. Giant cockroaches and tiny bugs in our room at night 6. at 3am random people sat outside our room and talked for 2 hours very loudly 7. no running water to brush teeth 8. no toilet paper
