Pros: Almost everything ...the host are above par excellence. The food is top notch ...esp the way they serve it with individual attention . One of the best Srilankan food I have had . The staff ( are all extended family ) just brilliant . You want anything they do it for u with a huge grin on their face . The cabana we stayed in was brand new and that was exciting as well . ( we were the first guests in that !) From driving you around to actually coming with us as a guide while u sight see to taking us shopping giving us internal tips and suggestions helping us save money ....this family gets a perfect ten from me in their hospitality . So much so that we wanted to extend our stay , unfortunately they didn't have rooms available. Keep up the good work and I certainly will make it back soon . Looking forward to staying with you guys again.

Pros: This property is fabulous - a 5 star plus experience on every level. The family offer the most wonderful service that cannot be faulted - this is the ultimate in customer service - all delivered in a manner that is never intrusive but covers your every need. Transportation, laundry service, tea and coffee, activity advice and delivery - the river catamaran trip at sunset, literally from the doorstep is awesome - watching thousands of birds come into roost and listening to them, from the middle of the lake and you are there all alone, wow, forget the usual tourist attractions, this is Sri Lanka at its best. Happy Man property is totally natural and sits amongst nature so comfortably and it is wonderful - monkeys, mongoose, monitor lizards and SO many different birds, all there for watching from your private terrace. Visit and prepare to be blown away - and don’t get me started on the food!!!! It is incredible- we have never eaten so well. Thank you Sualitha and Family

Pros: Usually we don’t give 10 star ratings, but Su and his family deserve nothing less. The Happy Man is run by the whole family and their philosophy is to have every guest experience the best of wonderful Sri Lanka with 100% happiness. We stayed 4 days in a spacious Cabana, with comfortable beds, AC and an outdoor bathroom from which you may spot monkeys in the mornings. We spent the days exploring the surroundings (boat ride through a lagoon with sights, visiting an impressive temple and the local weekly market, relaxing by the pool and visiting a turtle hatchery). There is more to do, if you stay longer. Su is very knowledgeable about the Country and will help you put together your travels and arrange drivers, so I’d recommend staying here in the beginning of your visit. The sons took us out on the different excursions (free of charge) and were always happy to stop and explain what we were seeing. The daughter and sister are preparing incredibly delicious dishes... we are sad to leave! Recommend 100%

Pros: this amazing hotel is located in jungles, the people was super friendly and tried their best to make our stay as comfortable and cozy as it possible, the very nice rooms with private terrace was very clean as well as the pool. Unfortunately, we stayed only for one night, however, the breakfast was included, the girls offered us a very delicious and balanced breakfast with amazing coffee. Before check out time we were offered a tour to the local sightseeings for free , which was very nice from the owner, as well as, we were given a homemade cinnamon and take to our next place.

Pros: All the comments about the nice family are true. They are happy to help you with anything you need, or show you around their village (without asking anything in return). Additionally, the dinner in the evening as wel as the breakfast was plentiful and delicious.

Pros: Breakfast was ok. Hospitality was very good. When one of our elder family members was really ill, the host helped us by taking him to the diagnostic center and also a doctor. The medicine helped him recover fast. The host had good contact with a nearby doctor and helped us a lot

Pros: At the shore of Bentota river we found this paradise surrounded by water, palm trees and peace where we were treated like no other place before. It felt like being a part of this wonderful family and especially when it came to the breakfast or dinner hour we thought we would like to stay here forever. All the food was so fresh, tasty and so wonderful we didn't even think to eat anywhere else. The room itself was nice, bed comfortable and equipped with an anti-mosquito net, shared bathroom was clean all the time and the terrace was perfect. It's a 10min walk from the Ventura beach where you came spend your day relaxing at the ocean. Bentota river itself offers a wide range of activities from water sports to a boat safari tour where you can observe animals in their wild such as monkeys, varans, little non-poisonous snakes and even crocodiles. We give 10/10 and definetely come back again.
Cons: The only thing we didnt like was that we didnt book it for longer :)

Pros: I had stayed in their other property close to Yala two years ago and was not disappointed with this property either; they are similar in many ways. The room is really big, with a HUGE bathroom and I even had my own little library of books - there are more books to read/swap in the reception area. It isn't actually on the beach - it took me around 20 minutes to walk there - but it is surrounded by nature and lovely birds. The food is also wonderful and Karen is a great host. Great wifi too - when I mentioned I couldn't really connect from my room they immediately gave me my own router!!!

Pros: The property is to a very high standard . It’s probably been one of the nicest if not the nicest place I’ve stayed . The staff are unbelievably friendly and will do anything for you . The food is delicious and the rooms are very spacious and clean . Loved every minute of being in the Shangri-Lanka and will definitely be returning !!!

Pros: Beautiful large room and balcony with picturesque views of the surrounding jungle and pool. Only a short tuk tuk ride to the lovely Bentota beach. Very helpful staff and a perfect place to relax for a few days.

Cons: There was an incident that really shocked us! We arranged a driver from another hotel to pick us from shangri lanka to his stay. The owner of shangri lanka threatened the driver to hit him and damage his car, if he would pick us up from shangri lanka! As customers we cannot accept such unprofessional behaviour, thats why we wouldn't recommend this place.

Cons: I like a sheet/duvet a little thicker on the bed. It’s very thin and though the AC is needed (otherwise it’s too hot), I woke up too cold a couple of times. Perhaps an extra blanket or thin duvet could be put in the room for those who need it. As we wake up around 6am, we weren’t able to have tea or coffee until after 7 when the staff arrive. It would be nice to have a kettle in the room.

Pros: The suite was huge and luxurious. The room had numerous art pieces that makes it unique. The bed and the sheets were extremely comfortable. The bathroom had a large bath. There is a lovely pool in the gardens with sunlounges and unmbrellas. The chef serves excellent food. Prem was there to assist with meals and anything else you require. Thank you. Hope to return one day.

Pros: We felt totally relaxed the minute we checked in. The villa is set in beautiful peaceful and lush tropical gardens. The room was enormous, beautifully decorated & immaculate. The staff were very friendly and provided exceptional service, even down to lighting a mosquito coil under the table on our balcony so we could sit outside comfortably in the evening and soak up the tranquility.
Cons: Some matches in the room to light the candles in the bathroom but that is such a minor point.

Pros: Great location. This villa is right next to the beach. No where before have I found the beach to be so accessible. The swimming pool was also simple and nice. The food at the place was also quite good. There is a also a very nice Italian restaurant next door to the hotel which is a must visit.
Cons: Communication with some staff members in explaining them your point was at times a challenge. Also the hotel does not have good tie ups for local taxi services. Having them should help. The taxi that they suggested to us was quite expensive. There were also quite a few ants in the room. They were quite harmless though. It was probably due to the proximity with a natural environment.

Pros: 1. Staff was great, friendly, polite and really helpful. All of them, but most of all-the owner’s brothers. We also had a romantic dinner at the beach and got a cake-compliment from the hotel because of my husband’s birthday. 2. The rooms were clean. 3. The beach in this area is absolutely amazing- very clean and almost no people around, because all the nearest hotels and villas are very small. 4. We were in a busy Nee Year season, but we always had enough sun beds and umbrellas+ the shade of trees. 5. Though the hotel is not really new, all the textile ( towels in the room, towels in the beach, textile in bed) is very clean and looks quite fresh and new. 6. Restaurant with alcohol and great food. 7. There was an amazing new year dinner and program included in price, we liked it a lot ( modern group was playing nice covers and there were some nice national show+ fireworks) 8. All the rooms have see view.
Cons: 1. Some lamps in the room didn’t work. 2. You’ll need a plug-in for euro-standard sockets.

Pros: Rooms are huge, all are sea facing which is great and was super clean. Hotel is right on the beach and also has a small pool which was very convenient. The member of staff who brushed down the sun beds every morning and provided towels was really lovely and very friendly.
Cons: For the price we paid a couple of things stood out to us. There was no hot water, which was a shame as the bathroom and shower were lovely, they use plastic straws in the restaurant (everywhere else we went had paper which is shocking given the hotel is right by the ocean) the staff were very hard to get hold of, we ended up constantly asking the restaurant staff who would then get the hotel team to come to us. Restaurant food was average.

Pros: The stay at your bungalow was really amazing. Your family was so friendly, kind and let me feel like a familymember. I only booked with breakfast. But when you first cooked for us it was like a tastexplosion - really really good. Thanks for giving me the chance to try your cooking! The location by itself I think can't be better. Near the ocean and not far away from the supermarket. Also if we wanted to go on sightseeing you organized everything perfect. The background knowhow about the places was huge. I will come back. Thank you for everything! I really enjoyed the holidays.

Pros: Fantastic hospitality. The family (Beauty & Dinuka) go out of their way to make any stay as comfortable as possible. Dinuka gladly drove us to a couple of local sights. The garden is wonderful - attracting lots of birds. Sunbirds at close quarters. Other wildlife we saw included 3 chameleons, purple faced langur monkeys, land monitors, mongoose, palm squirrels, etc. It's only a 5 min walk to the sea - either a long sandy beach or in the other direction a lovely little cove. Add to that some lovely cooking - both breakfasts & dinners.

Pros: Very nice location close to the river and peaceful and quite area, so you can enjoy night sounds and morning sounds from temple nearby. Lal is super friendly and helpful - met us with cold towel and glass of fresh juice. Room is super clean with nice view to the garden, AC is available all time. Also is very cool small private kitchen so you can without problem cook and have coffe/ tea anytime . He allowed even stay longer and wait for our transfer to Kandy! Thank you so much!❤️ I enjoyed my staying here and 100% recommend that place for everyone who travel here!

Pros: We loved our stay at river breeze. We were met by Lal, who is a very sweet local and an excellent cook. He offered lots of lovely fresh fruit and gave us recommendations for our stay. We only stayed one night but it was lovely. They sorted us out with a lift from the airport with Anthony, who was excellent !

Pros: Lovely villas on a gorgeous beach. Great pool with sea view. Lovely comfortable King Room. Food was lovely and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Nuwan for looking after us. We really enjoyed our 3 night stay. We will definitely be back.
Cons: You can hear the Buddhist Temple prayer at 5am so for anyone who is a light sleeper bring some ear plugs. The sound of the ocean more than makes up for it.

Pros: Pure luxury for a 3 night stay with my husband and 7 year old daughter. The property is stunning and on a quiet, stunning beach. Karolyn was the the perfect host and looked after us so well. The food was delicious and staff were fantastic. We walked across the road to find monkeys, which was the highlight for my daughter! I would recommend this hotel highly and hope to be back next year!

Pros: We spent 8 days with our 2.5 year old and 6 month old and had such an amazing stay. The rooms are well appointed and have gorgeous ocean front views, the sunsets were spectacular. The staff were so wonderful, and they were also wonderful with the children. The property was very child friendly, it had a toddler end in the pool, sand toys, high chairs, etc. Blackie the resident dog became like family, my son was so sad to say goodbye to him. I myself who typically isn’t an animal person, loved Blackie and how he would accompany us for long walks on the beautiful beach. The beach is clean and quiet, stunning. It is not commercialized which we found very nice! The food was also excellent and great value, we ate most meals in and were never disappointed. I loved the spicy chilli calamari, the Sri salad bowls, pancakes and home made ice cream! We also did a cooking class which was fun! You can also arrange yoga! We really hope to return to Sri Villas- paradise!

Pros: The room was great and comfortable, it had a very nice balcony, everything was clean. Also we spent the new year with the owner's family, this was very special because they shared their traditions with us and let us into their home, they are the nicest people! Last but not least, the food was amazing, we were very happy to try all those traditional dishes.
Cons: We don't really have any complains, although a suggestion would be to have a sign with the name on the street so that guests can find it more easily.

Galin was so glad to meet us at airport after 3 hours waiting for us (we were doing paper things for our dog). Dalitha is very good and honest owner, ready to help with everything we need. Also it was easy to communicate – they speak perfect English. Everyone from the family was so nice, friendly and with beautiful Sri-Lankan smile. Everyday a great breakfast was served for us with love. Also we ordered dinner everyday, and each one was delicious. Room was also nice, clean and with jungle view balcony. Pros: We stayed 4 nights in a wonderful room (super clean and comfortable). The fence is located about 10 minutes from beach. So it’s quiet at night times and if you wanna hang out at the ocean site, they got a deal with the rock hotel (very close), where you can use the whole facility. Best breakfast on our trip! Every day they prepared for us a different dish. As well we highly recommend the famous annanas curry for dinner, you have to try this!!!! Finally: Dolitha and his family are very careful and super friendly. They all speak fluent/perfect English. We just can highly recommend a stay at The Fence!

Pros: The host family is wonderful: extremely attentive, super friendly and warm-hearted. It's also easy to talk to them because they all speak perfect English. They were so courteous with a (super) late check-out so I could enjoy my last day of holiday. They also accommodated for my food allergies and prepared a special breakfast for me, which I appreciated so much. Since I extended my stay I stayed in two different rooms and both were spacious, super clean and comfortable. Long story short: I highly recommend staying at The Fence.

Pros: In our 7 days Sri Lanka tour, Susee Villa experience was one of the best. Mainly because of two reasons - 1. The location of the villa (just few metres away from a cool and calm beach along with a super cool restaurant just near the beach with some awesome food) 2. The main reason was Mr Susee (the villa owner) one of the best person I have met in our tour. Unconditionally a helpful person. He picked up from the station, dropped us to the river safari, arranged a tuk tuk at night when we were not getting any food nearby and arranging breakfast at 6:30 am when we had to leave at 7am. (The breakfast which he offered was one of a gem with so much fruits and local dishes just loved it!!) Perk: Mr Susse also has a Persian cat which you can find in the villa which is super cute as well :) I would recommend everyone traveling to Bentota do give a try. Trust me you won't be disappointed.

The food at the place was also quite good. There is a also a very nice Italian restaurant next door to the hotel which is a must visit.
Cons: Communication with some staff members in explaining them your point was at times a challenge. Also the hotel does not have good tie ups for local taxi services. Having them should help. The taxi that they suggested to us was quite expensive. There were also quite a few ants in the room. They were quite harmless though. It was probably due to the proximity with a natural environment.

We also had a romantic dinner at the beach and got a cake-compliment from the hotel because of my husband’s birthday. 2. The rooms were clean. 3. The beach in this area is absolutely amazing- very clean and almost no people around, because all the nearest hotels and villas are very small. 4. We were in a busy Nee Year season, but we always had enough sun beds and umbrellas+ the shade of trees. 5. Though the hotel is not really new, all the textile ( towels in the room, towels in the beach, textile in bed) is very clean and looks quite fresh and new. 6. Restaurant with alcohol and great food. 7. There was an amazing new year dinner and program included in price, we liked it a lot ( modern group was playing nice covers and there were some nice national show+ fireworks) 8. All the rooms have see view.

Pros: Rooms are huge, all are sea facing which is great and was super clean. Hotel is right on the beach and also has a small pool which was very convenient. The member of staff who brushed down the sun beds every morning and provided towels was really lovely and very friendly.
Cons: For the price we paid a couple of things stood out to us. There was no hot water, which was a shame as the bathroom and shower were lovely, they use plastic straws in the restaurant (everywhere else we went had paper which is shocking given the hotel is right by the ocean) the staff were very hard to get hold of, we ended up constantly asking the restaurant staff who would then get the hotel team to come to us. Restaurant food was average.

Pros: Fantastic hospitality. The family (Beauty & Dinuka) go out of their way to make any stay as comfortable as possible. Dinuka gladly drove us to a couple of local sights. The garden is wonderful - attracting lots of birds. Sunbirds at close quarters. Other wildlife we saw included 3 chameleons, purple faced langur monkeys, land monitors, mongoose, palm squirrels, etc. It's only a 5 min walk to the sea - either a long sandy beach or in the other direction a lovely little cove. Add to that some lovely cooking - both breakfasts & dinners.

Pros: I stayed at the Malu Banna for 2 nights while bicycle touring Sri Lanka for 2 months. Loved the resort! The staff and owners were wonderful and helpful. They have a beautiful place right on the riverfront and people can rent jetski's, go skiing, tubing, etc. Room was huge, great AC, WiFi in the room was fast, and comfortable bed (with mosquito netting). I highly recommend this resort!

Cons: They ask you the day before the time you want to go for breakfast and then make you wait 30-40 minutes sitting at the table before bringing you anything, even when you told you’re in a rush. We stayed two nights and one of them we nearly missed a train and the other they made us get to the airport at the very last minute, despite we had told the day before that we needed to be on time and despite we were the only costumers having breakfast at that time: the stuff in the morning is unaware of what agreed the day before. They arranged the airport taxi and then the driver asked for more money than agreed with the hotel. By the way the taxi arranged by the hotel is a bit more expensive than booked outside. They don’t make up the room daily. Breakfast is pretty basic and the same every day: fruit, eggs, bread, jam and tea or coffee.

Pros: WONDERFUL place!!! It looks like a luxury resort but you pay like in a normal hotel în Europe. The owner did really good decorating this place and the facilities are also super good. The people are very nice, the breakfast was one of the best we got in Sri Lanka. Also they organise safari trips on the river, and that was the main reason we booked with them. You go through the mangroves and crocodil searching up Bentota river. It's really cool. Thank you, guys! We loved our stay here and were very sorry we had to go so soon.
Cons: The wifi works perfectly in the rooms, but it doesn't work at all in the restaurant downstairs . Also we had some issues with the guy who was supposed to pick us up from the beach with a boat and bring us back to the hotel so we can catch the train and he kinda forgot about us and we had to call the hotel to remind him.

Cons: Very loud hotel we could never sleep longer than 8am. When you order something to eat/drink you often wait 30-45 min before you get it. They have 2 pools but one has absolutely no shade so everybody wanted to use the other pool so there was never space for all. We went to the beach and had to pay there additionally.

Cons: We booked a luxury room with sea view and a complementary 15-minute spa. We were given a room with no sea view. We objected then we were given a smaller (lower class) room. As it was hopeless arguing with them for 30 minutes after a 5-hour drive Nuwara Eliya, I asked them for a refund which they refused. They asked me to cancel through booking.com. Of course I did not as my booking was non-refundable and they asked me for that so I can claim nothing (my feeling). I threatened to call the tourism police. Finally, they gave us the room that came out of nowhere saying it was booked by someone who had not shown up (as if I had no booking or as if it was given to me for charity). They knocked on the door 15 minutes later asking us if we could receive a maintenance team for 10 or 15 minutes (imagine)? The room and the toilet smell. The sinks are clogged. The view form the balcony chairs is blocked by vertical steel bars and a horizontal steel beam that is exactly on the same level as the eyes. The view is also significantly reduced by the slanting top of the room so actually it is not that sea view you have in mind. Avoid it if you have any sort of alternative.

Pros: The stay here was just what we needed after travelling around Sri Lanka, it was super relaxing and the spa facilities were great. Staff here are so nice and super friendly. We could get the boat back across to the main part of Bentota whenever we wanted. We got upgraded and room was pleasant with a lovely view. Overall hotel is very clean and staff are hard at work, the gardens were constantly being maintained.
Cons: As lovely as the place was I think we paid too much to stay here, compared to other hotels in the area this was a lot more money. For 5* resort we were expecting probably a bit more ‘luxury’. Hotel itself could do with a lick of paint in places and the food / services were more western prices rather than inline with how we found the rest of Sri Lanka prices to be.

Cons: We had a bad experience with the staff while exiting the hotel. The boat ride from the hotel to the main jetty was supposed to be exclusive for guests but they also added staff in it. My wife had a very creepy experience with some of them staring at her and then trying to take photos. Then there was the incident about the cartel of taxi and tuk tuk drivers threatening UBER drivers and hence they cannot pick anyone up from Centara. The hotel management is aware of this and does nothing. Dilshan and Mario actually told us to go to the police and complain.
