What are the pros of staying at Nogami Honkan?
Perfect ryokan experience at unbeatable price. Very cozy traditional Japanese lodging. Nice staff can speak English. Perfect location. Great traditional breakfast with Onsen. Our room was huge! Hotel is clean, friendly staffs and have public and private hot spring with only cost 500yen. Comfortable onsen and close to the station. Near to Beppu Station and eating spots. Staff were pleasant. Laundry washing was free flow for an upfront cost. Room size was decent. Locality is good. Near to train station. Clean and bright. Private onsen & cheap laundry service. Good breakfast. Very helpful and friendly staff. Central location to food and shopping mall. We stayed in a nice ryokan for one night. Our room was big with tatami beds for 4. We paid 500 yen for private onsens and the morning Japanese breakfast was a wonderful experience. Excellent location, spacious rooms by Japan standards, basic amenities but sufficient. The price is very good, compared to the quality of facility, large room size and all the cleanliness despite the hotel is very old. Room is spacious and clean. Location is not too far from station and bus stop. If you'd like to stay in centrally located ryokan that is also not located in middle of nowhere, this could be for you! Private onsens are free for weekly plan guests. During my stay it was reduced to only 500yen for 50minutes which was more than enough. Location and having access to private onsens. Location. Second private onsen was good. Place was clean. traditional but feel good ryokan and private onsen. Ryokan experience was superb. The place has its old charm. Breakfast was very good. Staff was super friendly. Very spacious room, easily accessible location, friendly staff. Good location for all restarants and bars. Quiet neighborhood yet close to shopping and food places. Washer, detergent and dryer unlimited use for just ¥300 per stay, ¥500 for a 50min use of private hot bath. 2 nice and big lounge areas with free coffee/tea dispenser. Staff were so friendly and polite. Highly recommended for a Ryokan style accommodation. Staff were great. Location great. Very enjoyable experience. The traditional style and flair as well as the included onsen, People were very friendly and the breakfast was absolutely great. Great breakfast, excellent helpful staff. Stairs in addition to the elevator which is special for Japan. Great onsen and easy parking. Tatami room is spacious and cozy. Staff are nice and helpful. Breakfast in japanese style is deliciuos. Location is near Beppu station, easy access by bus and train. Service and location. Traditional and tidy, very good location. The hotel is very cheap and is also close to the main train station. You can catch buses to other parts of Beppu easily. The breakfast and staff was really nice! The room with private bath was great for 4 people. The futons are thick and comfortable. The public onsen is nice and clean. Breakfast was so good! Very good value for money!
What are the cons of staying at Nogami Honkan?
hotel for sure needs renovation. The smell inside the room. The room is a bit small but expected from previous experiences with Japanese hotel rooms. The private hot spring was in another building, it was a old and cold room. Some room is old style toilet and the heater doesn’t work very well. Should have more breakfast available for purchase instead of only pre-booked. Room facilities were lacking. No kettle to boil water for tea, no hair dryer, beds were pretty hard but we found additional mattresses in the cupboard. The hotel is very old and the room pictures shown are not the room. Room smaller than shown in website. The place provided both public and private bath, I give this a plus. However, there is no hot water (can't even wash face) and no microwave in the room. The facilities are a bit outdated, but it actually brings some additional charm. Normal for Japan, the bathroom was a bit cramped and the room dated. However, you get what you paid for. I don't really understand whether we need to pay once during our stay for the laundry or every time we do laundry during our stay. Old facilities. Public bath was very small. Fitted only 4-5 people max. Not the cleanest bath and not well lit. We didn’t try the private bath but that might be cleaner and more spacious. I wish they renovate the bathtub, shower and buy new hairdryer. The hairdryer took me forever to dry my long hair, the bathtub is very old, and the water from shower is not that strong. With wooden floor, sound of kid running/jumping at night is louder than normal. The facility could really do with a major renovation. Few electric plug and no trash box in the toilet. There were mosquitoes in the room. The size of the towels, very small. the public bath space is a bit small than expected, only two hair dryers. No private bathroom inside the room (although rental private bath is available, but outside of the facility). WiFi could be a little more consistent and faster. Look a bit old, Futong is quite thin and dirty. The room was dusty and the interior was dated. Also the location was surrounded by a red light district. Entrance to our room had a very faint smell; not noticable in the main room however! Private toilet did not have a sink directly adjacent; you had to go to the main room with the beds to wash your hands. Already quite old, could need some refurbishment. The rooms are not very well equiped and old, for the price I paid I find it a little sad. I stayed in a room with a shared bathroom. The bath was just the communal onsen bath, which I knew in advance. It was fine, but if you're not ok bathing in front of others don't come here. However the toilet and the washroom area were surprising: to get to the toilet you need to go though a lounge and a restaurant - which is but ideal especially in the morning during breakfast hours. The washroom is just a sink in the common area, next to the restaurant. It feels like everyone is watching you while you brush your teeth or dry your hair. Very uncomfortable. Also, the restaurant is very close to the rooms. I was woken up by the noise of the staff setting up breakfast at 6:30. The onsen is very small, basically a bathtub. If you're after a nice onsen experience this is not the place.
