Pros: Staff was super friendly and helpful. Helped us organize the Jungle Trekking etc. We Slept in the Sky Room which was really beautiful!
Cons: WiFi connection was not so good. Lot of insects but that’s probably normal in the Jungle
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! The staff were very cheerful and helpful, entertaining us with guitar and singing, the hotel has some wonderful quirky designs, the location is superb. Although it cannot be directly accessed by car, luggage is transported the short distance for you. Best of all, the tour guide, Andra, and his assistant, Romy, could not have been better or more knowledgeable companions on our day trek organised by the hotel. All in all, highly recommended.
Cons: Nothing, but being out of season the bar and restaurant were a little limited.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Orangutan is an excellent choice for a stay in Bukit Lawang. The staff are superb, manager Hanzelah (pronounced Anjélah) was a star when it came to retrieving lost baggage fro our KL to Medan flight and at helping with on-ward travel arrangements. Staff at the hotel are super friendly and the vibe is like they are of a group of friends looking after you, hanging out and entertaining all visitors with impromptu acoustic jamming sessions. If you book the family suite be aware that there are 120 steps to get to the top, the hotel comprises of rooms at different levels on a hillside. Great location. No ATM in town or cards taken, ATM is 20 mins by car or scooter. A rash vest for tubing is advised along with good insect repellent.
Cons: Loved it all
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The room and bathroom were lovely. I had a balcony with hammock which overlook the jungle valley. It was a really nice place to stay and everyone who worked there was really friendly. I had the porridge with fruit breakfast and it was tasty. The airport transfer that they arranged was fine both too and from the airport and wasn't priced at a good rate.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing staff and location, staff made us feel very welcome and the tours are excellent!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff & the food were the best part. It was the managers birthday and he offered us cake and they sang songs and it was just a really cool experience to feel like you were a part of their community.
Cons: I didn’t get any WiFi but it is offered there but when you’re in a place like it, it’s not the most necessary thing. Enjoy where you’re at.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, helped me book my trekking. Ask for a room next to the reception. Clean and spasious rooms. Quiet surrounding.
Cons: A lot of stairs up to the rooms on the hill.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: + Super friendly staff and atmosphere (I mean really, not "professionally" friendly) + Tasty food + Clean and spacy room + Great jungle trekking with Imam and Teddy + Great pre-arrival contact with Paul Surely the best place we've stayed at during three weeks in Indonesia.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very helpful and friendly. Trekking guides Andra and Romi and cook/rafting guide Madi were exceptional! Food at restaurant was also very good.
Cons: Room was not as clean as I would expect with items still in cupboard and bathroom floor not a clean as I would have liked.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful place in a great location by the river. You need to cross a rickety bridge to get there but the staff helped us with our luggage. We arranged transfers and also an Orangutan trek through the hotel at a great price which made things nice and easy for us. The food was tasty and cheap - loved the fruit platter.
7.1 Good
Pros: the air con
Cons: the staff wasn’t really helpful. once we get there, no one in charge for the check in and we had to wait til’ one of the staff woke up from the nap. he didn’t even greet us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff is very cool. Great experience for jungle trek
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was incredible, with a large private veranda and huge glass walls. The location is perfect, on the banks of the river. The food at the attached restaurant is excellent, although breakfast is not included.
Cons: There seemed to be a lot of guides around offering us tours. It was hard to tell who the actual staff were. The monkeys that roam the village make quite a racket, but this will effect every place along the river. They advertise a laundry service, but it’s charged per item, all washed by hand and line dried. We didn’t get our clothes until we were about to leave and they were still wet.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great, the suite room i stayed was clean, the staff was absolutely friendly especially both my guide during my trekking and well verse with their guiding expertise.Food at the cafe was nice.
Cons: There's no tv and kettle in the room.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: An excellent location. Accommodation was clean and well-maintained. Staff were welcoming and accommodating. Menu at the restaurant was diverse and food was very appetising. All the locals were friendly and helpful - felt very safe.
Cons: We stayed for 5 nights - our room was not cleaned, bins weren't emptied and towels not changed in that time. Soft drinks/water weren't cold - none were kept in the fridge. This was fine if you were drinking it at the restaurant because they offered ice, but not if you wanted to take a bottle away with you. We had already pre-booked our jungle trek and elephant washing trip with another tour company, and I'm not sure that Thomas particularly liked that. He would prefer that you do it all through him.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The food is really really good! The people are also really kind and helpful. The rooms don't have ac but the fan also does some cooling down :) the jungle trekking was amazing. Really genuine guides and great stuff to watch. The view from the balcony is absolutely legendary.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hosts, booked our jungle tour with them exactly how we wanted it. Very accomodating
Cons: wifi went out a few times, but most of the time it was good and fast enough
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thomas is a Great Guy. All the staff are Wonderful. Good food cheap beer. Clean. Ian And Rendi our trekking guard were the best. Making sure we saw lots of Orangutans and other wildlife. They really looked after us. On a Saturday night here is a great night. Live music great atmosphere. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
Cons: Nothing

Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything else.
Cons: We were there over the weekend and to our surprise there was a lot of very loud local music being played throughout much of the day and until late at night, midnight. Unfortunately, this really detracted from the peacefulness of the ecolodge despite everything else being brilliant. It was still worth it for the incredible trek into the jungle to see the Orangutans but dont expect to be a in a serene environment (over the weekend at least).
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Thin towels and only one towel each.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The vibes, building design, location, and food is good.
Cons: I already booked for 2 properties, pay and confirm on the same day via whatsapp chat to the hotel staff, but when I came, they said I only booked for 1 properties, and it's not the same like I order, please don't do it to another customer

Pros: Beautiful surroundings. Great guided tours in the sorroundings national park.
Cons: Often loud music late af night from another hotel across the river.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location! And wonderful food!
Cons: The fan location could be better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful lodge situated along the river. The lounge area above the restaurant is wide and comfortable; good wifi connection there too. My room was inside a little hut with all the basic amenities you'd need: mosquito net cover, power point and cold shower outside the hut. I was staying during the low season so it was quiet and peaceful. Staff at reception were helpful and kind. There was water disruption during my stay at night which wasn't fixed until the next day, but overall a great 1-night stay for me.
6.0 Good
Pros: The place had a very nice restaurant by the river, the bedroom was big and nice.
Cons: I stayed two nights and I couldn't sleep as there was some music/karaoke going on until late. The music was really loud, if you want to have a good night sleep I recommend staying further up the river as there are some quieter places.

Pros: Good location. Delicious kitchen. Pick up. Excellent staff and guides. Would recommend them just for that. 10/10 for people. Planned to stay 2 days, stayed for4 nights. Recommend. Another thanks to Silo for being my babysitter. And the guy with the guitar.
Cons: No hot water, but it's normal for this area. Found a bottle cap from the previous guest in my bed. Needs better cleaning.

Pros: tasty and reasonably priced food and good portions, served by friendly staff.
Cons: nothing
9.0 Excellent
Pros: What a nice place to stay, everyone is so kind and helpful. Let them organize the different tours you'll love to do, ex.: jungle walk, elephant tour, visit the country side and to say, it's a nice place to relax. Thank you to Junia's team for everything. If we can come back! It's the place where we will be staying again. Guy& Zeena

9.0 Excellent
Pros: food in restaurant
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful team, familiar atmosphere, nice restaurant and a beautiful garden. Thank you very much for spicy cooking.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Junia is located across the river near the trail head for trekking into Gunung Lueser National Park. The guest house property has beautiful gardens and various locations to relax and enjoy the view. Bungalow style accommodations are rustic but very comfortable and clean, exactly what I like! A lovely front deck to sit on or enjoy relaxing in your hammock. The restaurant on site serves delicious food, even accommodates a vegan diet....and serves as a common area to mingle. Often acoustic guitar and spontaneous gatherings in the evening. The best part is the people; the owners family are all so friendly and helpful...very kind, the staff in the restaurant, house cleaning and gardens are lovely, and the trekking guides are very experienced and committed to the wildlife in the National Park. Excellent and well priced treks...a great team of people at this guest house, great vibe...an easy place to settle in for awhile. I miss them already!
Cons: I would have preferred wifi in my room, it is available only in the reception/restaurant area...sometimes on my porch. Not a big deal.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: My favourite place in BL. Absolutely relaxing and pleasant

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, well located and the jungle tour (2 days) was worth it and a lot of fun.
Cons: Cold water in the shower
4.2 Okay
Pros: Room was ok
Cons: The walls were nonexistent, so you could hear everything from outside, the room smelled like mold, it was really hot and our fan made an awful noise. Only cold water from shower, and the owener sent us very rude whatsapp when we booked jungletrekking from someone else. Cant recommend!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: 2 days jungle trekking. Great experience !!
Cons: Everything ok except last day situation when we were asked for 500k for broken soap dispenser which was from IKEA. This request was irrelevant to the situation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love Indra Valley to the moon and back. Beautiful view, great room standard, delicious food.Everyone there, is nice and helpful. They won’t allow you to worry about anything. They will take care of you and all of your needs. You can feel more than welcome there, you will feel like home. Trekking with Imran-fabulous. Don’t even think about choosing someone else! I strongly recommend this place to spend a beautiful time in amazing nature and together with great people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so wonderful and always on hand to help. The room was so spacious, clean and comfortable and the sights and sounds of the river and jungle right outside the room were incredible. Food was delicious. Overall a great place to stay.
Cons: Nothing. This place was amazing!
7.0 Good
Pros: Magnificent location directly near the river, spacious room, very good restaurant nearby (Garden Inn). And last but not least: owner/host Obiwan, who wants you to feel happy. A trekking is definitely worth the effort. For us half a day was enough, we saw several urang utans really close.
Cons: Of course always minus points can be found, but we talked with Obiwan about them. Better than complaining afterwards in a review. Don't forget what the people of Bukit Lawang have experienced in 2003: An unexpected disastrous flash flood of the river Bohorok destroyed the whole village in a few minutes, 234 inhabitants were lost. See http://handcraftedfilms.net/the-story-of-bukit-lawang/. They had the power to built up their village again....
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is such a wonderful place to stay! Obiwan and his family are so welcoming and really make you feel at home here. The Inn is in an incredible location along the river and there are balcony views and hammocks with each room - it really blew my expectations in the best way. Their restaurant is great, very affordable & convenient, too. I highly highly recommend you stay here and take advantage of their trekking opportunities! Obiwan went above and beyond and organized transportation for me from Medan on short notice, too. Thank you very much for everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We are more than happy that we choose Indra Valley for our stay at Bukit Lawang! Obiwan and his Crew are super friendly and gave us the feel that we are welcome everytime! The Jungle trekking (2days) was amazing and the guides have a great knowledge about the nature & animals! If you looking for a home away from home, Indra Valley Inn is absolutely the best choice! Don't think too long.. Just book! :) - rooms are very clean and cosy - perfect Location - nice & friendly crew - great jungle trekking - tasty food
Cons: Absolutely nothing to complain!

Pros: This was the cheapest accommodation I could find, it was recommended by the tour guide I used for my jungle trek. It’s on the edge of the jungle, so I was looking for luxury. 8.8 Excellent
Pros: Such a cozy place with a perfect place at the river, with hammocks etc... Even with pic up service and they really try to make your stay as comfortable as possible and you can feel that they want you to have a great time It‘s just a little bit dark in the night (not a lot of lights in the room/house) ... but that‘s the flair of the jungle ;)
7.9 Good
Pros: The staff. They were really friendly and always willing to help. The food was also really good. It was also really cheap.
Cons: There was a cockroach in my room, but I think you can not completely prevent that since you’re staying in the jungle. I think for Indonesian standards the accommodation was very clean.
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice location, river view, pretty new rooms, quite good food
Cons: There was no hot water and no aircon. The spiral metal stairway up was not that easy for my elder friends.

5.0 Okay
Pros: Good View
Cons: Sunyi
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An A++! This accomodation has everything you need in a place like Bukit Lawang: it’s clean, view on the river, nice rooms, comfy beds, sounds of streaming water & surrounding nature.... plus (!) the food is good☺️ But the best thing, above all, is the hospitality and the kindness of everyone working there. After i’ve got robbed in Medan, one of the guys (his name is Izun), brought me to Bohorok to help me replace some of my stolen items and went to the police station to file a report (he told them my story and translated). We found out that it’s not allowed to file a report in another district and that i had to go back to Medan.... To make sure that everything will go as smoothly as possible (covering the language barrier, get to the places i had to be, tackling POSSIBLE police corruption), Dede’k (the owner’s wife) did such a kind move! She had her brother in law make sure that hìs brother in Medan (a guy from the military, named Arie) waited for me in Medan and brought me everywhere i needed to go and told the whole story several times at several spots... untill i finally had my official police report! So funny how the attitude of every police officer changed after Arie told them he was from the army.... suddenly so kind and welcoming
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great staff with excellent service. Tasty food. Very comfortable bed. Had everything I needed in the room and a hammock outside on the balcony. Good location.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great views. Staff and food were great. Did book the jungle tours through staff there and were more than happy with that. Would definitely pay more and have the superior room.
Cons: The one and only thing that frustrated us was the owner, who lived in Belgium. I am sure he was trying to help but he made things terribly confusing and was desperately trying to sell us trips to where he wanted us to go rather than we wanted to go. He totally confused us by asking us with asking us to pay to a bank account in Belgium. Honestly Rico leave it to the staff and your dear wife as they are more than capable!

Pros: Putra is an excellent host. The guesthouse is located in the centre of Bukit Lawang, next to the river. The jungle tour organized by putra is one of the best experiences ever!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fun Family Guest House is one of the best guest houses I stayed so far. Putra, the host, is an amazing guy and guide. I did a 2 day jungle trek with him, which was incredible. He knows a lot about the jungle, he loves nature and he likes to have fun and laugh. The guest house itself has an amazing location. It is right next to the river, where you can swim and cool down. If you are staying in Bukit Lawang, I highly recommend to stay at this fantastic place!!! and also to take a jungle trek with Putra.
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Simple but cosy accommodation run by Putra and his family. They looked after me when I was sick and also was a great guide during 2d/1n jungle trekking. He knows all the trails and where the animals are , cooked yummy food for us with lots of fruits. Highly recommended!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The smile of Putra, the host, when he founds orangutanes. The welcome of his family, great people. He drove us 10 km to the nearat ATM, and alleays asking if we needed something. If you are looking for orangutan treck, go here and book with Putra, experienced guide, respectful with the jungle, great food.
Cons: Nothing to do with the facility, but the guide assotiation could lower the tecking prices a little bit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived at Fun Family and received a very friendly welcome from everyone. We were shown to our room which was a good size with private bathroom and a mosquito net, plus plugs for electricals. We forgot our padlock and when we asked were provided with one which was great. The family were really helpful, from restaurant recommendations to getting to an atm, to extending our stay to one of the river view rooms when we decided we didn’t want to leave just yet! We also organised a jungle trek with the wonderful Putra who really knows his stuff! We had an amazing 3 day, 2 night trek in the jungle, saw orangutans, monkeys and amazing birds. He taught us some of his jungle knowledge and lots of magic tricks, entertained us with stories and had us laughing all the way back to Bukit Lawang in the tube. We will certainly be back to do a longer trek at some point - Putra does a 7-10 day trek deep into the jungle where if you’re lucky you can see elephants, tigers and bears! Next time! Thanks Putra and Fun Family for an amazing experience in Indonesia!
Cons: Nothing - it was all brilliant!
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Fantastic place in the middle of pristine jungel. We saw 5 species of primates from the lodge including orangutang and white handed gibbon. Fantastic room with exceptionel view, really good food and lovley straff. Five stars in its true sence!! We stayed for 9 nights and did not want to leave.
Cons: Loved everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place with a family like atmosphere. Djoe, Keaton, and everyone really look after you. The food was delicious. The walk to the location is beautiful and makes you feel like you really are in the jungle. The team are also really helpful with organizing tours and transport.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was really nice to wake up in the djungel with the beautiful view & sounds. However you should really be aware that everything is "Back to Nature" as the name says. If you are expecting 24 hrs Wi-Fi, electricity (till midnight) and amenities like shampoo, soap & toilet paper, then it's the wrong place (or you just bring yourself). It was a 40 minutes walk to reach the hostel. We really loved the food & the staff was really, really kind and helpful!
5.4 Okay
Pros: Cool place to visit as long as you're fully prepped that it is very much a back to nature experience & is a basic offering. The location on the river is beautiful & you can just walk down the steps to swim/soak! They do meet you in town & carry your bags to the accommodation. If this wasn't offered I'm not sure we'd have arrived in one piece!! The arrangements for our jungle trek were super easy & the guides were great. We saw so many orangutans, it really did exceed expectations. We took the river raft back to town on our return/when we checked out. The guys took so much care with our bags & wrapped them in plastic to keep everything dry. The rafting was a great way to travel & lots of fun. The property generally is lovely & the staff are very friendly. Keating (or Keaton.. apologies!) was amazing. He also accompanied us with the guide on our jungle trek & was so lovely & helpful.
Cons: The walk to the accommodation is long, as expected, but it is quite a trek & hard going in places in the heat. The distance from town means that an extra 1.5-2hrs walk is added to your full day (7hrs) jungle trek which is significant. Also you can't just stroll in to town for food/drinks or a meander. The bungalow room is far from the main building/other accommodation, which initially sounds like a treat. However, it's located on top of the hill & there are lots (& lots) of steep steps to reach it. The property doesn't allow or provide toilet paper! This was a surprise but, although not ideal or preferred, wouldn't have been so bad if the eco-toilet (bum-washer) actually worked! There are loads of mozzies which of course is to be expected but the net around our bed had so many rips/holes it was impossible to block them all. There's no hot water at all. Make sure you ask about their coffee plantation/cinammon trees. We weren't told about these as we were leaving when one staff member asked if we'd seen them! Would have been good to know at the start.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Position and staff
Cons: Expensive food, little portions.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location in the jungle and the walk is beautiful. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We had a garden facing room which had an amazing view and the bed was really comfy and clean

Pros: We loved the magic atmosphere and the view, the hotel is totally deep in the jungle. The staff was great, the restaurant is very good. Our guide to orangutans was perfect, he is very responsible and respectful to animals and he was very good and kind with kids. He is the best guide we met in the jungle, we really recommend him, because you need the best guide to do the best experience. We loved the jungle and the trekking was a unique experience.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The staff was very helpful and friendly It takes a very long and tricky walk to get there but it’s absolutely worth it. If you love nature this is the place to go It’s far away from everything and the only noise you have is the river Everything is wooden made and they respect the fauna and flora of Bukit Lawang BEST FOOD IN THE AREA! This is a must
Cons: It does not have light during the day and NO internet at all

Pros: Very basic accommodations but friendly staff and extraordinary jungle and river views. Focus on conservation and being totally eco friendly is admirable.
Cons: The long walk into town

Pros: The setting is superb and the ideal location for jungle trekking and river rafting. The room was very spacious and had some furniture and surfaces for your stuff. The staff were very kind and welcoming. Tongu, the manager, did all that he could to make our visit to see orang utans very special, organising transport from the airport at Medan and a guide, Anuar, for our trek. The two day, one night jungle trek was superb and the river rafting was great fun. Loved our pancakes for breakfast.
Cons: The bathrooms are typical of the region and not of the standard that western visitors are accustomed to but we managed fine.

Pros: People are so nice. Specially the guide An Nuar is so nice and kind person. Jungle trek was amazing! You can trust these people. And you will feel safe there for sure!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is super nice and the place is lovely. You can relax there because is not inside the town, you have all the nature in your surroundings (you are next to the river). We love the food and it's not expensive. The place is perfect if you want a quiet accomodation.
Cons: Just consider that the WiFi only works in the reception area, but for us wasn't a problem.
7.1 Good
Pros: Nice place. Clean room. They look for you at the terminal. It has a restaurant with wifi.
Cons: No wifi in the rooms. We talked about booking the jungle trekking with them but we couldn’t get it touch to confirm it as the guy had a motorbike accident, so after a 4 hour wait we booked in another place where we could also pay with dollars. When we came back at night, they came to our room, they were absolutely upset, they wanted to charge us more for the room for not booking with them and to follow us the following morning to know who our guide was. Weird. Uncomfortable.

Pros: It was one of the best stay we ever had. The staff treated us as a family members. We had a really nice and clean acommodation which was really good for this price. They have an amazing garden! Water is cold only but in this weather it’s ok. Their food is simply awesome. They took us for a jungle trek for half a day and we some 4 orangutans, monkeys and other animals. We did rafting on the river which was really fun and after that we went to the bat cave which was something we never saw. They have a really friendly guides who knows a lot. I really recommend this stay!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This guesthouse is in a quiet spot near the river. It is set in a beautiful garden. The bed was very comfortable. It is a no frills kind of place with a rustic charm that grows on you. Our reason for staying here was to see the orangutans, which we did. We booked 2D1N jungle trek through the guesthouse. Our guide was Anuar. He was good company, passionate about the jungle and looked after us superbly. We finished by rafting down the river which was great fun. This is a great place to stay if you want value for money and are not fussy! Togu, the manager, was very helpful and professional.
Cons: It would have been helpful to have a couple of coat hangers. We are used to having a basin in our bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The stay at Batu Mandi was exellent! It gave us the jungle-feeling right away, lying next to the forest. The staff were amazing, so helpful with everything! I'm coming back to this place!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: I liked that it was so close to the jungle. The gardens and landscaping were very nice and enjoyable to sit and have a cup of some of the best coffee! Good for solo travellers especially with Togu (nephew) as your personal tour guide!
Cons: Had to be extra careful walking back to room as the cement walk could be slippery at times but likely inevitable with rainy season
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is very nice and peaceful, just beside the river. The rooms are big, clean and confortable. They also have a restaurant where you can have food and drinks. The family is very kind, helpful and friendly. I definitely recomend this place in Bukit Lawang. They organize our Jungle trek with the best guide ever, Anuar!
Cons: You have to pay 10.000 rupies to keep your bag during the trek!

Pros: We stayed one night before a jungle trek. We arrived late and left early. Next doors is a resto which was still open late. The location was perfect for our purpose, walking one a few meters to the meeting point for our trek. The room was squeeky clean, and accomodated us comfortably for the night. No bygd or mosquitos Cold water in the shower (as expected), but nice to have a shower before going to bed. No amenities, so bring a bar of soap or similar if needed. Plenty of toilet paper and towels. Nice breakfast on the rooftop terrace.
Cons: The room got a bit warm during the night. Kept windows closed to avoid monkeys.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was one of the most pleasurable stays I've had in a long time. I stay at hotels roughly 70 nights per year so I have a lot to compare this hotel to. The rooms are extremely well kept, the bed is very comfortable, the mini bar stocked, and the bathrooms are very clean and the water very hot. Breakfast is simple but delicious. The location is a little far from the "city" but still walkable. The staff is INCREDIBLE. I've never stayed somewhere where every single person was kind and accommodating. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
Cons: The only small issue is they don't serve dinner. But if you ask they can arrange to have a simple dinner delivered to you if you don't feel like leaving the property. There are plenty of dinner options very close by, however.

Pros: Free popcorn provided each afternoon as we sat chatting with the other guests and staff

Pros: The hotel is very well kept and maintained. The place stands out amongst others. It is a catch for the price . We were bummed we couldn’t stay for more than a night as it was booked out. If we visit again this would be our first choice . They don’t serve breakfast but there are so many places around that it didn’t seem like a bother . We had a lovely time . It has a nice view and quite romantic. We stayed in the 4 people room but we loved it !

5.4 Okay
Pros: Nice jungle location - very peacefull Friendly staff - we joined them for singing Fine food
Cons: They promised to bring our bags to a certain location. We had to måske several Phone calls and wait 3-4 hours. Seemed they didnt care bout' the service since they were already paid. We didnt get the room we booked - even after they promised we could get it the next Day. They overcharge a little on the airport transportation and jungle treks.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I spent one night at Batu Kapal and three nights at the sister property, Terima Kasih reggae bar. Both properties exceeded my expectations, and I will definitely stay there again. Big thanks to Bayu and Raka and the rest of the staff, they set me up with a great trek and were always there if I needed anything. Keep up the good work!
7.9 Good
Pros: The jungle trekk was amazing, thanks to the Young guides, Who spoke very nice english and told us interesting facts about local flora and fauna.
Cons: They made some charges that, in my opinion weren't justified (20.000 rupiah for caring after my luggage, when i was doing the jungle trekk for which i paid 90 euros). Transportation to the town 25.000 rupia each trip...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place was the highlight of our trip. We loved the location and travelling there on the motorbikes was brilliant fun. The food was yummy- especially Bayu's chicken curry- the best meal on our trip! The guys were so helpful and it was so peaceful and beautiful. They organised a brilliant trek to see orangutans and rafting back was fab. They took us on the bikes whenever we needed to. Playing guitar and singing in the evening was very memorable. Bayu upgraded our room for us so we had two beautiful rooms above each other looking out over the jungle and we were the only guests there so we were made to feel very special.
Cons: Maybe another 'over' sheet on the beds.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Raka & Zuki who work in the guesthouse aswell are the best guides and made the jungle trek really fun, much humour and take care of the clients!
Cons: Anton (manager) is trying to cheat you from the first minute. He is charging to take you to the guesthouse, ridiculous price for the trekking (in town it’s cheaper), he is not kind/friendly at all. Accomodation: - no hot shower - insects everywhere in the room - room not clean - no water pressure - located deep in the jungle (1hr walk from Bukit Lawang) - no electricity (only at night time with generator) - expensive meals at their restaurant
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, beautiful property, and was very secluded.
Cons: Everything was good.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. The staff was extremely nice, the rooms were clean and well equiped and the location contributed perfectly to our jungle experience.

Pros: Warm welcome and hospitality of Andry, the son of the owner and who speaks English well enough to give all the information you want. Pros: Really nothing to complain about. The rooms were very clean. The bed very comfortable, large bathroom, good shower. In front of the room there is a small, nice seating area with a hammock. The restaurant and lounge area is located directly on the river. There you can eat good food, cold and warm drinks or delicious fruits at good prices and enjoy the view. The host family is very friendly. No matter what you need - just ask! Special praise and thanks to Andre, who took a lot of time, often talked to me and fulfilled all my wishes. I will be back in the future and if I sleep somewhere then in the Sahnan Guesthouse.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: - Beautiful room - Great bed - Mosquito net - Great shower (but no hot water) - Lovely breakfast - They organized airport transfer for us from Medan for a very fair price & the driver had no problem stopping a few times for cash & food. - Organized a really great trek for us with a fantastic guide who was very funny & had great knowledge and English. (Vishnu) - We saw a lot during our trek including orangutans, Thomas’s langurs, macaques, etc. - As well as the trek, our lunches were prepared for the trek which was great. - Great and friendly staff who were always there to help.
Cons: We didn’t want to mark down the guest house as it wasn’t their fault and they weren’t aware of this. We booked transport with them from Bukit Lawang to Parapat in association with Happy Tracks. We were told it would be a bus - then in the morning we were told it’s a car & we would be going to Medan first and then to Parapat - which added 3 hours to our journey. In Medan, we had to change car and driver who then asked for 25k p/p more for tolls, which we were not told about. The drive to Parapat from Medan without tolls would be 5 hours, but with tolls it would be 3 hours. So we then asked if we could do the tolls as we just wanted to get there faster at that point. The driver then asked us for 60k which was more than we were told already. The driver then continuously tried to pick up random strangers off the side of the road so he could make extra money. He got one guy and only charged him 50k for the journey (when we paid 230k each plus the 50k). We felt completely screwed over! This wasn’t the guest houses fault as we texted them during then journey and they rang the transport company and enquired and apologized profusely. Just don’t book transport with Happy Tracks.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! First, we asked for help and they met us at the local bus station and guided us to the guest house. They also work in conjunction with a local ethical tour company. So it was very convenient to organize trustworthy tours around the area. The guest house was absolutely comfortable and clean, and with a private bathroom with sink and mirror. The location is riverside. So peaceful and with beautiful views all day long. The family that run the guest house were so friendly and made our stay probably our best in 1 month in Indonesia! They have a restaurant and store in front and the food was so good, freshly prepared! We ate there almost every night. We highly recommend a stay at Sahnan!
Cons: Really can not think of anything.

Pros: Stunning quiet location with many butterflies. Staff were lovely and we enjoyed be lulled to sleep by the sound of the river. The hosts were super friendly and we enjoyed the communal dinner times.
Cons: The walk really is quite a way from the village and although scenic is dangerous in places. Gets easier as you get to know it but it put us off venturing out after dark. We had a cold shower only, but the hosts offered their own bathroom with hot shower

Pros: Everything was perfect. Very good food - breakfast, lunch and dinner at reasonable prices. The staff was absolutely great. They arranged a transfer to the accommodation, helped with heavy luggage. I definitely want to go back. The open-air bathroom is great. Hearing the river and the sounds of the jungle all night is just a great experience. The jungle trip we had with the staff was well organized. Good lunch in the jungle. We have seen 8 different orangutans and many other jungle inhabitants. It is the best accommodation I have ever visited !!!

Pros: Wonderful hosts very accomodating and very friendly staff.
Cons: We found the 30min riverside walk not to our liking and was unexpected.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kupu Kupu is a lovely little home away from home set in a beautiful Jungle paradise. The location, room and general atmosphere were excellent. It is a bit of a walk from the main tourist village but this is also what makes it extra relaxing. Jeffrey, Sue and their team were excellent hosts and made our stay great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It's a paradise, in my opinion the best place in Bukit Lawang. It's 10 min walk from the village, by the river, beautiful views and a nice room. Jeff and Sue are great hosts, very helpful and attentive. It's a great starting point for everyone visiting Sumatra. The guide Arif is very good and knows the jungle inside out. He took us to places with amazing wildlife we've seen 15 orangutans, turtles, monitor lizards and countless other animals. I would definitely go back with friends. Pro tip: go rafting after jungle trekking it's way more fun than taking a shower!
Cons: Absolutely nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kupu-Kupu is a hidden gem in the jungle! An intimate little home away from home. Situated on the lush green riverbanks about 15min walk away from Bukit Lawang village it feels allready like being deep in nature. No village sounds but just the relaxing sounds of the river and all animals around. This is the perfect place for nature lovers and people that want to relax with a book and some swimming in the refreshing river. Jeffrey and his wonderfull warm team, Grace, Arif, Whisky, Linda and the kitchen crew make you feel like family and they do everything to make your experience fit your needs. The communal dinner with the other guests is wonderful for socialising and makes this place perfect for individual travellers. The fresh Indonesian food the crew prepares everyday is to die for......every morning you get to choose if you want to join for the evening and if you ask for a special ingredient/dish they prepare something delicious. Made the mistake of checking out another restaurant in the village on my last day....stupid ;-) I went for two seperate full days of trekking with Arif which was more than perfect! He is grown up in this area and has a deep knowledge and love for nature. The way I have seen him interacting with the many Orangutans that we came across was extraordinary (have not seen this from the other guides) - when necessary he can communicate with the animals in a calming and respectful manner. That is helpfull when some Orangutans, particularly when big males approached us and Arif would always step in between and make them calm. The jungle trekking needs some fitness, though Arif will see and adapt to the needs of the guest and take enough breaks. He will also adapt with your specific requests. For instance in our case we wanted to spend long time with the animals for photography without other people around. He made it work! Jeffrey can arrange all your travel needs to and from Kupu-Kupu in the rest of Sumatra which is super convenient.
Cons: Nothing really!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: When I booked the room I wasn't really aware of the location. The rooms seemed really nice and close to the river. When I arrived there it was far better than my expectations. The rooms have an awesome view, the staff is REALLY nice, the room was amazing! I thought there will be mosquitos but I stayed the whole night in the balcony and not one mosquito. And the place is located in the woods and there is no traffic or anything. Just really peaceful place with not much noise. Other places in the village have motorbikes always passing around but not in KUPU KUPU. Jeffrey, the owner, is really nice and talkative and really funny. I enjoyed a lot talking to him. The guide for the trekking, Arif, is really nice guy and he will show you the nicest places in the jungle! This place is totally worth the money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The chefs here were amazing! The breakfast was fresh and appealing. We also participated in one of the communal dinners with other guests and the food was excellent. I particularly loved all the vegan and vegetarian options!!! The location is quite a hike but well worth it and hiring a porter is a good idea! I have always thought hiring a porter is also a way to help local wage earners! The room and the view were exceptional! The tour guides Krisman and Araf were beyond compare. I appreciated their honesty and candor. I also appreciated the opportunity to try a new language and learn more about their way of life and their faith! I would encourage them to speak to tourists about the devastation caused by the palm oil plantations. I am now a label reader! Let's keep the forests of the world!!!

The restaurant is also very nice and delicious and with reasonable prices - especially compared to other restaurants in Bukit Lawang. Pros: Owners were brilliant, sorted picking us up and dropping us off to medan either side of our stay, we arranged a jungle trek through them which catered to all our needs, food is fantastic and reasonable prices, room was exactly what we paid for and expected, would highly recommend and would happily go back.
Cons: Not massive issue, but room above our ground floor room, you could hear everything, luckily we only had that on two nights of our 6 night stay, wifi is hit and miss, but when you have the surroundings there is plenty to do without needing WiFi.
4.2 Okay
Pros: The girl at the kitchen/reception is lovely and we had our fun with her.
Cons: We stayed in the bigger room, just by reception desk. Huge room with a sofa. It is somehow dark (only one windows) and you can hear the noises from the narrow street under the window. Specially motorbikes early in the morning. Bathroom is small compared to the room size and not well distributed. We arrived in Bukit Lawang with nothing but the room and booked the jungle trek with the manager Jerry at Laeang Inn. The guide was good spotting orangutans surpassing our expectations (he is a "peculiar" guy). We where not happy with the prices that Jerry offered us for the elephants bath tour in Tangkahan and asked around in the village. It was clearly overpriced in the Lawang Inn. We recomend to ask around in the main road before commiting with him. We are used to travel and frecuently book tours from the accomodation itself because is convenient for everybody but the difference in price for the elephants bath tour was too much. Food was good and we had breakfast everyday. For dinner there are more options down the path.

7.5 Good
Pros: Location first class. Staff were amazing & the whole experience fantastic.
Cons: Nothing. A note would be it is deep in the jungle & we had no running water for a morning. We expected to get grotty as it added to the experience but for someone expecting ‘comfort’ not sure if this is the place. We loved it though.
7.0 Good
Pros: The ecolodge is in a very attractive setting at the edge of the National park about 20 mins by motorbike from Bukit Lawang. It is surrounded by forest and quite close to the river. It is an extremely peaceful and relaxing place with only the sounds of the jungle . The wooden bungalow, although a bit basic, was built in traditional style and had a fabulous private balcony where we could relax and look straight into the rainforest. We saw a number of different animals and birds passing by. Electricity went off from 3am to 8am but as the bungalow is completely surrounded by forest it was cool enough at that time to manage without the fan. It was more like staying in a active conservation project than in a guesthouse which added interest . There were lots of volunteers there engaging with permanent staff in the monitoring of animals and other aims of the project. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. It was an enjoyable two days despite the rain! You couldn't beat the setting for getting away from it all and enjoying the rainforest very close by.
Cons: Food and beverages were quite expensive eg 30,000 Rp for a small cup of coffee. The quote for transport from Medan was also high, 750,000Rp. We did the journey in an A/C Bluebird taxi for 460,000Rp. We were surprised that there wasn't a mosquito net in the deluxe bungalow given the price of the accommodation. This meant you had to keep the doors and windows closed all the time and ensure you were completely covered in repellent at night.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The staff were friendly.
Cons: We wanted to stay in the jungle in the hopes of encountering more wild animals so we bit the bullet and paid 4x as much as we did in Bukit Lawang. Although the cottages are large with nice decks, they are simple and more like glamping. We went on a few walks and saw very little in the way of wildlife for a high cost. The food was not great either, especially compared to the delicious meals in Bukit Lawang.
