Perfect location in downtown Portland - a very short walk to the wharf and local restaurants/pubs A bit pricy, but it's in line with other hotels in the area.
Great location. Walking distance to the old port and lots of restaurants and bars. A great stay.
I loved the location and the hotel/room was very clean. There was a continuous noise above the bed. It sounded like a pipe clanging. Thank goodness for the sound machine feature on the alarm clock. Also, the bed was very firm with starchy sheets. The terry cloth robe had a large rip in it as well.
The room service staff and valet were super friendly and extremely helpful. Other than that, it was a horrible experience...not a bit relaxing! I work in the hospitality industry, so I know what great service is. When I got there, the TV wasn't even plugged in...then I went out with some friends, came back to a dark room, and when I tried to turn on the lamps on the side tables, I found that neither of them were plugged in. It was as if the room hadn't been used in months! When I called the front desk to complain, the woman at the front desk blew it off like it was no big deal! I ordered room service at 8:30 in the morning (which was great) and then put the do not disturb sign on the door. Well evidently it was irrelevant...I had fallen back asleep after I ate my breakfast, then at 10:30 I got a call from housekeeping seeing if I was still there...she didn't even apologize for waking me up, but at 11 I got a knock on my door from housekeeping! Check out was at 12, and I felt very rushed! For the money I spent, it was a horrible experience! I will never go back, and I will spread the word about my awful experience.
location would have enjoyed a fridge and coffee maker in room
I am a female and was travelling alone to see my son. I got my room and from then on, felt comfortable, secure, close to conveniences and within walking distance to great shops, restaurants and more. I was also given the gift of a spa treatment while there, and that experience was heavenly! The dining room was decorated for Christmas and was absolutely lovely! I was also quite comfortable eating alone here, with a seat by a warming fire. I will be returning to Portland shortly, and would like my same room and experience. Loved it.
Everyone at the hotel was so nice and went above and beyond to be helpful. The location is perfect right in the center of the city. There are so many great restaurants just around the corner. I also really enjoyed the spa at the hotel. The facilities are very relaxing and everyone that works there can help you figure out exactly what you need. We had a great stay and will definitely be coming back.
Great location. The spa was good. Our room was on the first floor and it sounded as though every toilet in the building was directly above us.
I liked the historical nature of the building, and the architectural details. I found the hotel to be big on comfort, cleanliness, and friendly and helpful staff. Loved the complimentary coffee delivered to your room in the morning, much nicer than having to make substandard coffee in the room. The Mill St. restaurant on the premises has wonderful food and a lovely ambience. I didn't take advantage of any of the spa offerings, so I can't comment on those. It would be helpful for rooms to have a small fridge. The lighting in my room was not great for reading, but the huge windows let in a lot of natural light. The internet was painfully slow. I didn't understand the need for the valet parking, since the lot was just across the street, and I would have happily parked on my own and walked over. But it was inexpensive, $12, so this is not really a complaint, just an observation.
All of the staff - from valets to room service, desk clerks to lounge staff, housekeeping to spa staff - were friendly, knowledgeable, professional
The open large lobby/rooms, the happy hour, of course the breakfast! We have just assumed your hotel is our destination from now on. We've been staying there when we come up from Cape Cod to visit w/our Grandaughters! They have a ball in the pool and just love visiting w/us at The Hotel!
It is always comfortable. Staff is outstanding. Food is good. Omelets at complimentary breakfast are excellent. Convenient location.
The service of the gentleman when I arrived at midnight exhausted from a long trip overseas was excelllent. He picked me up at the airport and made sure I got to my room safely. Thank you
tub in room 525 did not drain.
Overall experience was enjoyable. We only stayed one night due to other travel plans, but would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would stay there again.
Small and friendly, close to airport and Mall.
The bathroom door in 346 does not close easily.
The very close location to the airport. Good food and lobby area. Easy access to the business center. No complaints.
Hotel was clean, convenient to downtown, plenty of parking Front desk was very uninterested-did not even make eye contact upon check in, and restaurant is actually the worst I've ever had in a hotel. This place has potential but needs a little love.
clean, comfortable, close to where I needed to be. Food was very good.
The location near the train station made this hotel convenient.. Staff was friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was solid. Hotel was full of guests, it seems the staff was having a bit of hard time keep up with day to day upkeep. The hallways needed a vacuuming for instance.
Near baseball, concert venues and easy drive to town. Nice rooms. Nice staff. Hot tub Aweful.
the friendly staff The mold on the bathroom ceiling and walls.
People at the front desk and in housekeeping were very friendly, helpful and accommodating I had a late check out bc of a race I ran that morning. So I was taking a nap before I left with the do not disturb sign hung on the door. Housekeeping did knock and awoke me even though I was notified that housekeeping was aware of my checkinv out late. Besides that everything was great!
Good food, comfi bed Bathroom wasn't clean
Friendly staff Needs some updating
Location was great, right off I-295, and minutes from where I wanted to be in the morning. Room was clean. It has a restaurant inside which was convenient. Food (bowl of soup) was OK. Water temperature in shower was extremely hot; I nearly scalded my back when going to turn off water. Also, there were (unused?) hand towels in tub. Did they just fall, or were they left by previous guest?
The hotel was clean the staff seemed friendly enough. They had coffee, tea and cookies in the entrance which was nice. I really liked the size of the room and that it had a mini refrigerator which was extremely helpful for me. The hot water for the shower in my room was not working however I was only there for a half marathon so I didn't bother calling for help at the front desk since I was about to checkout and run a long distance. I'm sure they would have helped if I called about the issue
The location was good for my purposes. I only had time to shower and sleep, so I can't speak to any other facilities. $185.80 for a basic room at a basic hotel is way too much. Several days later I paid about $10 more for a 5-star hotel on the Boston waterfront.
Very good value for the money. Lots of people there for different reasons but all were accommodated. Nothing.
utilitarian, people were friendly could be cleaner
Good for the price. It was 65 bucks and clean. The bathtub looked old. Place could use an update.
Coffee and bed was comfortable. Heater in our room was ridiculously noisy.
The pool and staff were excellent. It would be nice if they included breadfast in the cost.
The location was conveniently located right off the highway. After making the front desk aware of the bed conditions the sheets were changed. When we arrived to our room there were evident stains on the bed sheets and upon further inspection there was a fair amount of soap scum and dirt on the shower floor. After making the front desk aware of the issues with bedding the next day the same thing occurred. I was definitely dissatisfied with the cleanliness of the hotel and would not book there in the future.
Staff was so very helpful -- allowing us to return our rental car to the airport the night before our flight and then they picked us up there, and they ordered a cab for us early in the morning to get to the airport; they directed us to pick up some breakfast items that were getting ready to be put out even though it was an hour before the official breakfast start time The place was so clean and the rooms lovely, quite the contrast to a motel we had stayed at the previous two nights
Convenience. My son and I attended a Maine Red Claws basketball game. The hotel was very convenient to the stadium and I envision the same for a Sea Dogs game. Room was basic but decent size. Nothing major. Outside, hallways and lobby were a bit plain and drab.
This hotel has a great location...close to the airport, close to the downtown waterfront, and easy to get around. It is definitely on the low-end of prices for the area and there was nothing bad about the area around the hotel. The complimentary breakfast was nice, nothing too fancy, but worked out great for a quick bite before meetings. The rooms are pretty dated. They have tried to dress them up with new bedding, but the rooms smell terribly of smoke, even though they are 100% non-smoking. The first room I got was so bad with a smoke smell, that I asked to be moved, which they accomodated. However, the second room was just as bad as the first, maybe even worse. My business colleague said the exact same thing about his room, so I am guessing that most rooms smell like smoke.
For an overnight near the airport with our adult daughter before her morning flight out, we looked for a suite, since her parents both snore. The second bed was a fold-out couch two feet from the first. Since we'd booked through Kayak, no .negotiation with the hotel was possible.
Outstanding service from their front desk staff.
good location, efficient valet parking, comfortable rooms, stayed with teenage children in adjacent room which worked well.
This hotel offered everything you would expect from the Hilton name. It was a little more expensive than other hotels in the area, but was not overpriced and worth that bit extra.
Absolutely wonderful staff from the valet parking to the front desk to the housekeeping staff. Professional yet friendly.
I enjoyed the location and the friendness of staff. I also liked the room, since it was large, well decorated and with a nice view to the harbour.
Friendly staff. Downtown.
The beds and room were clean. Bathroom was mostly clean-passed for me and I'm pretty picky. Manager fixed the extra charges that the man who didn't know anything at the front desk charged me incorrectly. Had to check in very late, the overnight man at the front desk said he didn't normally work the desk. Had me fill out incorrect paperwork and charged my card, multiple times even though I used a third-party site and already paid. When I went in the morning to square it away, another man told me that I still owe the hotel money...very confused, a woman who I'm assuming was the manager, said no you already paid and it looks like the overnight man charged you extra. Apologized greatly and fixed everything. Thankful for her because it seemed no-one else knew anything.
I liked how friendly the staff was and accommodating! The hotel was very clean. Complimentary breakfast wasent bad either! The pools were nice indoor and outdoor! The beds in our room were not as comfortable as i preferred and some of the hotel hallways were masked with stale cigarette smell
For the price that we paid, we could have stayed in a luxurious hotel. Very disappointed.
The room itself was clean and comfortable. House keeping did a good job cleaning room while we were out. Room had a microwave and refrigerator. This room was $50 more than the Ramada Inn across the street which was booked. The Ramada has a nicer bar/restaurant. We ordered room service and were made to feel like we completely inconvenienced them. The overall layout of the hotel is ridiculous. You either have to cut across the outside court yard or drive to the lobby section of hotel. Nothing is connected. The lobby has the fireplace, bar, restaurant, pool, and gym so this layout is totally a nuisance!
Staff was nice
There were no frills but my overnight stay was comfortable and refreshing. location right between Old Port and the Arts District was great. No snack machines, just soda machines
Room was very clean and was ready early. The restaurant wasn't very good and their wait staff was horrible.
Location. Poor value. Super expensive for what you get. I was stuck in a smoking room because Kayak's system (or the booking one - whatever) doesn't make it obvious that the room is smoking. There shod be a huge notice that the room being booked is a smoking room. Weird smells throughout... Room "mostly" clean. Internet didn't work and when I reported it I was given a support number to call. Sitting on the phone for an hour (which didn't solve the problem) was a big waste of my time. I stayed at the Westin after this place and it was night and day. They obviously train there staff at the Westin because from checkin to cleaning people they were helpful, courteous, and friendly. Everything about the Holiday Inn lacked, the Westin excelled at . Stay there instead.
Good location. Spacious room. Great view. The window in our room needed replacing, could have been an even better view. Good TV, comfortable bed with choices of pillows. We didn't eat at restaurant in hotel since it did not get good reviews.
Best all around hotel stay in the area
It was clean, quiet and had a great view of the bay. The staff was professional ,friendly and helpful. Loved the snacks at the front desk. Was not happy at how much the room price was for the weekend we were there. Looked like a great deal until I put in my date of arrival. We went after Columbus day to avoid the crowds and high prices. No crowds but hotel price was high.
Location is ok, on the edge of easy walking distance to the Old Port area. For the price would have expected bigger, nicer rooms. It was just "ok", not a great value for the price paid.
It was a big disappointment. The hotel was very dated, and the front desk staff was cold/unfriendly. This hotel should have cost below $100. Instead, we paid approx $375.
I loved the staff, they where friendly and very helpful in giving me directions around town and what cool things to check out. I was not expecting the hotel to have a shuttle service that took me wherever I wanted to go downtown, and the driver was super friendly. My room was incredible, well lit, well decorated with a bag of popcorn waiting for me. I all around enjoyed my stay. Breakfast was good. I paid extra for the "seaside" suite - this does not mean it is a view of the ocean. It means it's on the seaside but that your view will be of a fish manufacturing plant. I was a little disappointed that I spent an extra $30 to stare are a fishery.
I wanted to catch the ferry to the islands, so it was a great location! Parking was very convenient. and downtown area and shopping was a few steps away. I came up a week earlier that my original reservation, and the staff was able to accomodate me. They were very friendly and professional. What was not to like!
Very comfortable bed and large rooms. Near a brewery that gave off odors that were not that pleasant.
Great value, wonderful room (spacious, modern) we will definitely stay here again the next time we're in Portland!
Great amenities, great location, excellent staff.
Location is close to harbor yet far enough away to avoid all the noise from Commercial Street. Lots of good restaurants/bars within walking distance such as Fore Street, Duckfat, Street and Company, Vena's, Gritty's and more. Free breakfast. Parking isn't free - $15 per night.
Cheap towels Rugs were unkept smelly Place smelled like alcohol Recycled bathroom tissue was given
Friendly staff, clean facilities, quiet Too far from old orchard beach
Room smelled of stale smoke, my guess it was a smokers room. In addition there was pubic hair in the toilet!
Passed through Canadian customs the day after our stay. Phone tested positive for traces of heroin. Have never touched /seen heroin in my life.
Contintental breakfast was fresh, well stocked. The rooms were not kept up while we were there. Dirty towels, not making the bed and we found a baby bottle top and other things left behind by who knows how many guests. The whole place including the pool could be good if they gave it some tlc and got some cleaning staff with some ambition.
Next to a Denny's. Way overpriced for a simple out-of-town travel lodge. Sparse rooms. Weak shower.
for the price you cant beat it. friendly staff, clean room
Location, cleanliness, pool, Bartender was REALLY slow, and when I asked the front desk for a re-print of my receipt from dinner the night before, she told me she couldn't do it, and didn't offer to figure it out. She did tell me to have a nice day...
Most everything. Fun to have Starbucks right there and the Mall across the street. Toilet clogged before retiring and we were too tired to call the front desk. It made the morning unpleasant to have a clogged toilet. I'm sure they would have fixed it right away but we were only there for the night and checked out early. That's our only complaint.
Overall the room was great. It was very clean and the staff was nice. The walls however are very thin and we could hear our neighbors that kept us up through the night.
I liked the freezer/fridge and microwave in the room. The breakfast was really good No
traveled from Central MA to visit brother that was in town on business. The hotel was nice, the lobby was welcoming and the staff was very nice to me and my family. Even with a full breakfast crowd, the food was never empty. Across the street from Maine Mall, 15 minutes from the Children's Museum, minutes from the freeway. Our room was nice and inviting, except the heater/ac unit ran all night long and was noisy. We put the temp at 68 and it would blow hot, then blow cold to balance...annoying. The arm chair had a decent size stain on it and the tray table had sticky, stale jelly on half of it. Besides that, I would stay there again.
comfortable, good location, friendsly, good breakfast No
Nothing special. Room smelled like smoke even though it said nonsmoking.
Good wake up call and nice shuttle to the airport at 4:00 a.m. The window was unlocked which is scary for a single female. It did lock however when I tried.
Room was small, bath miniscule. Overall aging motel. Needs a lot of work. Door did not close properly. Noise from hallway penetrated the room. The rate for the second day of the stay was exorbitant for the quality of the room. Central location was about the only positive. See previous answer
Reasonable/ handy to airport with shuttle exterior entry door broken, carpet rolls in hallway, small bath, poor lighting, poor breakfast.
The rooms and beds were comfortable enough. Price is good, compared to a lot of the available AirBnbs in Portland (which were getting out of control). - Found a dying stinkbug in the bathroom. - The walls were cracking, could use a touch-up. - Look, I know this is a budget hotel, so I shouldn't expect much in the way of amenities, but don't tell me you have a fitness center when all you have is a steamy room with 2 treadmills and a stationary bike, all of which are broken. I probably would have given 3 stars if they just got rid of the fitness center all together.
Absolutely fine "economy" stay near airport for an early departure. Clean. Polite and helpful staff. A bit hard to adjust temperature. The towels are like sandpaper but clean and do the job.
Even staff member I cam e into contact with was very nice/helpful. Room was clean, AC worked great. Plenty of parking. Hotel was quiet. Close to everything. Under renovation, a few areas were a little messy but is to be expected.
No one ever picked up the phone for the airport shuttle. Once I made it to the hotel, it was hideous. Dirty, tired room with a weak wifi signal. Worst part: no hot water.
price noisy didn't monitor loud people.
The location (close to airport) and the price. It is clean but this is essentially a budget hotel.
We were placed in a wing of rooms far from the front desk. After check-in and eating dinner at Chilis next door, we returned to go to sleep about 10:00pm. Not long after, we heard commotions in the hall, yelling, foul language, slamming of doors. The young men involved spoke like ex-cons. This went on for several hours. Someone complained, after several mgr. visits, things finally quieted down by 2:30am or so. At one point we thought they would break into our room!! This was the start of our 2-week vacation !!!
Nothing More friendly staff.? You been pretending to renervate for years.? Get over it. It is an old sick place.
The staff was friendly and the room was clean and comfortable! The bathroom was kind of small for a king size room!
We needed a hotel room at the last minute in Portland and a lot of places were sold out. Howard Johnson was low-priced, clean, and close to everything we needed. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Portland, this hotel is an excellent choice.
Convenient location, nice pool, ample parking and better than average breakfast. Television picture was very grainy.
It was very comfortable and clean. Had a great nights sleep. Nice continental breakfast. None of the machines in the exercise room were working. Although I did tell the front desk and I went by later and they appeared to have some sort of maintenance going on. I didn't check back during my stay so I don't know if it was resolved.
We liked the breakfast !it was good Fitness room both trade mill didn't work and nobody cared for the people at front desk very rude with customers ,surprised to hear their way if taking !
Nice room, nice pool, nice breakfast area. My only major complaint was the hallway didn't have any air flow. It was supper stuffy walking down the hall. I mean it was even hard to breath it was so stuffy.
Your webmaster should be directed to make the little squares, and little circles MUCH darker. I could barely read them. Look in the adjoining box to see just how faint "What didn't you like" really is.
The pool was nice, the beds were comfy and it was quiet. Breakfast was better than some. House keeping was very helpful. The tub wasn't as clean as I would have liked it. There was a crack in the ceiling and in the door frame. There were little black flies coming in the bathroom. Would have liked if the room had laundry bags. The tv remote didn't work. Wifi was slow. The staff just ignored people as they walked in. Manager was just hanging out and talking with the front desk all night.
Great location, friendly and helpful staff, and a good value. Rooms are a little basic and dated, but clean and well maintained.
I found the staff to be extremely friendly. The room was very clean and up to date. The bed was a little hard, but not uncomfortable.
The location was perfect. Quick trip to downtown Portland. Comfy beds. Clean. Quiet. Laundry facilities. Starbucks on site. Beautiful courtyard. Friendly staff. Excellent stay. Highly recommend.
Very nice modern clean I really enjoyed it.
I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the room and the contemporary decore. But I was most impressed by the helpful and professional front desk staff. I'll definitely look for another Courtyard by Marriot for my next trip.
The beds were great and we appreciated having the choice between soft or firmer pillows.
I'm not a particularly frequent traveler, but I've stayed at several Courtyards around the country, and every one was clean, pleasant, and comfortable. No complaints.
The rooms That fact that there was no continental breakfast and only enough coffee in the room for 2 cups.
Friendly and courteous staff. Comfortable beds and pillows. Rooms were well appointed. The pool area was nice. I do wish they included breakfast in their rates. Almost $30 for breakfast (2 of which were kids meals - cereal/milk/banana) is a bit much. It was tasty though.
Very clean and easy access to the Maine Mall and airport. Also, Sebago Brewing Company is a two minute walk. No room service, and a sub-par bistro.
-Although they didn't advertise as having breakfast, they had a box of dunkin' donuts in the "lobby" for customers to share. Review may be biased because this was the first jelly donut I ever had. -Owners: Motel is run by a late to middle aged indian couple. They were very nice and welcoming. -Preparedness: They are a bit behind technologically which made checking in more of a process than it had to be. The presumed wife struggled with the notion that I had booked a night with them online through kayak, her husband was able to make it happen but it would have been rough if he wasn't there. -Price: better bang for your buck in same area. -Noise: the motel is off a busy road from which you can hear the traffic..
Clean, quiet, good location Parking lot was not plowed or shoveled making it dangerous for two elderly women to go from the car to the room. The parking lot had not even been sanded or salted.
The hotel had all the basics. Staff was kind and we had no problems. Room was clean and everything worked. Best part: easy access to Portland and the surrounding area: in the western reaches of South Portland, very close to highway, which means no driving around all the other summer traffic to get into the city. Would have been nice to have a couple of extra towels in the room somewhere: when asked, the hotel staff were quite forthcoming, so not really a problem; just slightly inconvenient. No HDMI port on the TV! But again, heck that's pretty minor.
Great location, close to the airport. Clean Quiet Very good restaurant attached to the motel. Breakfast buffet is extensive. Staff very accommodating.
It was very clean and very close to downtown Portland!
The pool and the mattress The outdated appliances and the smallness of the room
Comfortable beds AND pillows! I loved the warm swimming pool and the waterfall effect in the hot tub, it was great to massage my neck and shoulders after a long drive. We didn't care for the small bathroom and the narrow doorways.
Location was 10 minutes from downtown Portland. Great value. Only stayed one night but would return if I came back through the area. Good selection of breakfast foods. Small counter space around sink.
The staff was very friendly. The cleaning ladies are always around. breakfast is what I expected of a continental breakfast. It needs a lot of updating!! Wallpaper is peeling everywhere. Stains and holes in furniture and carpets. The pool ladder is broken and someone could get hurt if they don't know that. It was too expensive to not be kept up nicely.
Loved the massage chair IN THE ROOM!!! My boyfriend and I also loved the outdoor heated pool and hot tub with the waterfall! The woman who checked us in was also extremely helpful and nice!
Room was very clean, beds were very comfortable, food was excellent, staff was very friendly and helpful. Spent one day at the pool and that was excellent as well. No complaints!
We stayed in the honeymoon suite. The massaging chair was incredible and quite the surprise. The jetted tub was quite large and just right. Breakfast was very good for a continental... one of the best that I have encountered. Hotel was clean, staff friendly and helpful.. Check out time was a bit early at 11:00. We were running behind and alerted the desk that we would not be ready to leave until 12:00, which they were a bit annoyed by but flexible nonetheless. Unfortunately a maid opened up the door while we were still in and was probably as surprised and embarrassed as we were for not knocking first.
Obviously the pool is amazing, which you enter from inside first before immediately proceeding to outdoors, big flat screen TV in room, K- cup coffee maker in room, massage chair in room
Kids loved the pool! Nice on site restaurant with good food and reasonable prices Loud guests in hallway. Not the cleanest or nicest room
