9.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place, friendly hosts, fruit orchard
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely property and friendly staff. Cabins were pristine and location perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stayed two nights, the farm is beautiful and peaceful and a great base to explore the Daintree. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and helpful. They provided a level of service rarely seen. The cabin was clean, and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely with exotic tropical fruits from the property. A very unique accommodation that was interesting and relaxing.
Cons: Only a minor comment being the shared kitchen could get a bit cramped, especially in the morning when everyone wants to use the one toaster.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place to stay and get back to nature. Friendly staff who are very helpful and passionate about their farm. Beautiful fresh fruit to eat everyday and a nice and cosy cabin to rest up at the end of the day.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: -Friendly family run business -Very clean, quiet, and very comfortable beds Sam was very informative about the area as well as teaching us about their different fruits they grow on the farm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our Hosts-Jeremy & Merran -were very hospitable & friendly. We loved the setting, the exotic fruits for B/Fast along with use of the Kitchen facility. The 5 little bungalows set apart in the Farm were clean, modern & inviting. Also only 100-200m to Beach. It would appeal to anyone wanting to escape & relax or someone wanting a unique Cape Tribulation environmental experience. Highly recommend you come & stay here.
Cons: No negatives.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Merrem and Jeremy and their sons could not be more helpful and welcoming. Their plantation is beautiful and conveniently located to beaches and boardwalks in Daintree. Their tropical fruit breakfast was quite an education in exotic fruit but all delicious! The accommodations are very cute and clean.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very welcoming and engaging. Beautiful environment.
Cons: Nothing it was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely amazing place! Small hotel consisting of just 5 houses standning in the middle of a huge fruit garden. The houses are located far away from each other, and one can feel really alone in this nice place. The house itself is quite new and very nice. Lovely owners, who helped us a lot with recommendations and bookings of excursions. Very nice breakfast with a huge bowl of exotic fruits from the garden around the hotel. I would recommend the owners to make some pictures of the hotel from above (with a drone for example), as the current pictures are actually worse than reality.
Cons: The only thing, which some people might not like, is very limited internet in the hotel. It works only on reception and is limited to 1 Gb/month/whole hotel. However, we enjoyed this internet detox very much, as we had lot's of time to look around and to spend time in the rainforest instead of constant checking facebook :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Merran and Jeremy are great people to chat to and amazing hosts!

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting. Sleeping under the forest canopy is an awesome and unique experience. We even spotted the resident cassowary. Margaret and Michael are welcoming and knowledgeable hosts. A very enjoyable stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the heart of the Daintree Forest. Very private bungalows make you feel like you’re the only ones there! Absolutely loved everything about this place from the amazing Cassowaries that roam the property to the incredible meals prepared by chef Scott in the lodge’s Cycad restaurant. Make sure you try the Barramundi, this was spectacular! The helpful and friendly staff and the manager Margaret were a great source of local knowledge and able to provide great tips for things to see and do. The lodge even has it’s own nature walk through the rainforest. You can’t go past this place for an eco-friendly holiday destination close to everything the Daintree has to offer.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food and location was amazing. The hospitality is perfect and we cannot fault a single thing. We will definitely vist again! My wife wanted to make sure that i specifically stated that the food was amazing, and I agree.
Cons: Nothing, everything was amazing.
7.5 Good
Pros: The surroundings were beautiful and staff gorgeous.
Cons: The cabins were a bit disappointing, they need a good clean too. If they were upgraded and a bit more luxe it would really make the experience better. Like cleaning the roof glass so you can see out at the view.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the beautiful environment. It was a wonderful experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the rustic lodge and secluded location, providing an amazing rainforest experience. The breakfast and dinner was excellent and the staff really helpful and hospitable. It is however within very easy reach of all the beaches and sights. We also loved the Lodge’s own nature walk through the surrounding forest and enjoyed seeing their resident cassowaries.
Cons: Considering the secluded location and the whole area being off the national grid (you wouldn’t know it) , with no mobile or TV coverage available in the region, it may not suit everyone but we soon got used to it. WiFi is available in the central lobby area only and there is a library of DVDs available for all guests to replace the lack of TV. Each room as a TV set and DVD player.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, personal service. Good breakfast included & good evening meals available
10.0 Excellent
Pros: really amazing accomodation in the oldest rainforest of the world! The bungalows are really luxurious and everything is neat & really lovely designed! With an (at night illuminated) pathway to the bungalows, cosy and stylish design in the bungalows (and skylights making the bungalows light and friendly) and spatious bathroom (with scent). Everything spotless clean and with ‚no visitors‘ from the jungle ;). In case you wish some distraction, there is a TV and DVD player in the bungalow with numerous DVDs available at reception (for free). Hear the sound of the birds&animals at night or the rain falling down on your roof-sooo amazing! And the lodge has Cassowaries visiting for breakfast and roaming around the area. Food is delicious, too - a plentiful breakfast, and try out the restaurant for dinner! I had stunning barramundi and duck (all&sidedishes local food). The owner Margaret is very knowledgable and helpful in the things to do in Daintree Rainforest and shares the secret top spots with you. I felt like home while being in the middle of the rainforest, and when returning to Daintree Rainforest this is my No.1 spot to stay. Thank you Margaret for this amazing magic experience!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: - Beautiful and Private location in the rain forest - Breakfast was tasty - Very friendly staff
Cons: - Quite expensive for what you get in terms of facilities - No WiFi in rooms, only at reception/bar/restaurant area
The Epiphyte Bed & Breakfast - Cow Bay - Building
3
9.1 Excellent (153 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Cow Bay, The Epiphyte Bed & Breakfast is by the ocean, within a 5-minute drive of Jindalba Boardwalk and Daintree Discovery Centre. Featured amenities include express check-in, luggage storage, and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in the bungalow which was gorgeous and cosy. Amazing rainforest setting. Friendly recommendations from the hosts.
Cons: Due to the nature of being in a rainforest there is limited electricity and water supply - be prepared not to use a hairdryer or take long showers! Able to use the main fridge in the kitchen to keep things cool and share the cooking facilities.
7.5 Good
Pros: Excellent views when having breakfast. Friendly hosts.
Cons: No internet reception on the phone. No wifi provided. No TV. Not much to do after 6 pm when it is dark. Creaky bed; could hear other guests so not much privacy either. Didn't realize that the kitchen facilities were shared. One shelf in the fridge for all the guests. No microwave.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: AMAZING! Everything about this place is so good - you will not regret booking. Already looking forward to my next visit. The place is beautiful in a wonderful location. Kev and Trish are so helpful and great people to spend time with over a cup of tea :) very insightful about the area and happy to answer questions and give local advice on all the good spots to go to.
Cons: Nothing!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The setting is beautiful - in a tropical rain forest, removed from bustle, listening to bird songs and looking at nature. And although we were in the midst of a natural setting, we were also close to roads if we wanted to go anywhere. Trish and Kev, the managers, are very friendly, helpful and attentive. Our cabin was only a minute or two walk from the main house, yet it was isolated and had its own little access road. The breakfast was relatively simple but certainly more than adequate. The array of local fresh fruit laid out every morning was wonderful. I would certainly recommend Epiphyte and would be happy to stay here again.
Cons: There are only two small things that I would suggest improving. The cabin has huge windows, which is wonderful for soaking in and feeling part of the nature, bit the addition of simple curtains would relieve any sense a guest might have of being exposed. The cabin is isolated and no one actually walked by or could see in, but the simple curtains or blinds would be good. A second item is the absence of telephone or internet/wifi services. We understand why there is no cellular service in this remote area, but perhaps a land line could be installed for contact with the outside if needed, and wifi. Perhaps this is not possible, but it's worth considering.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The lodge sits in beautiful and peaceful surrounds. The hosts Trish and Kev were extremely suited to run Epiphyte and we wish them all the best.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Trish was a great communicator.Kev was great support.Very healthy breakfast, great variety of homemade jams. Both obviously enjoy the place and meeting people
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly and helpful staff! Tranquil and beautiful environment! Lots to do and see in the area. Fruits at breakfast are a winner.
Cons: Small bed in the cottage was a little lumpy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Where to start. The heart, the beauty, the location, the room, the hosts. The HOSTS! The company. Don't go anywhere else. Just book and I hope when you do you haven't taken the last room when I'm booking to go back.
Cons: That I didn't stay longer
8.3 Excellent
Pros: great location - close to the forest and attractions; friendly and helpful owners; beautiful mountain view overlooking the rain forest; quite and peaceful at night
Cons: breakfast was too simple; facilities a bit old and simple; the driveway was very bumpy for my rental car and needs repairs
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Remote and beautiful
Cons: Nothing
Wompoo Eco Retreat - Cow Bay - Building
4
9.7 Excellent (26 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Wompoo Eco Retreat has a two self-contained private bungalows. The Mangosteen Bungalow has similar interior design as the Rambutan Bungalow (see separate listing if the Mangosteen is booked for the dates suited to you) with an indoor/outdoor shower that has views over the rainforest, plus a real king-size bed. It also has an outdoor rammed earth bath. The bungalow's construction uses rammed earth to ensure a cool interior and designed to maximise views of the mountain ranges from the bedroom and bathroom. We provide our guests with complimentary breakfast accessing good quality produce, and where possible, source it locally. At Wompoo Retreat we take advantage of our remoteness and living “off the grid” by providing bird watching binoculars rather than a television. The bungalow has private undercover seating with self contained cooking facilities. The proximity of each bungalow provides privacy for our guests. Elevated on a hill to capture tropical breezes, the property has stunning views to Thornton Peak, Cape Tribulation and the Coral Sea. We are located in close proximity to beautiful Cow Bay Beach, numerous waterholes, mangroves and rainforest boardwalks. Wompoo Retreat gets its name from the `Wompoo Fruit Dove’, a beautiful dove with an amazing purple breast, and green, yellow and white markings. This bird has a very unusual call. Listening to the Wompoo is like listening to a human conversation, but seemingly muted and far away. Our retreat is so named due to the presence of this lovely bird. A significant area of the property has trees with discrete open spaces as well as tranquil spots to enjoy the flora and fauna. Further, there is a creek, meandering through Wompoo that ensures a welcome retreat for quieter contemplation. Guests have access to - - King size bed with quality linen - Outdoor undercover self-catering facilities - Fridge - Handmade soap (made on the property by your hosts) - Wi-Fi (available on request) - Continental breakfast of local fruit, bread and condiments including, museli, plunger coffee (see photo of what to expect), - an assortment of local Daintree teas and biodynamic milk We are a friendly couple who respect people's privacy. Our house is 20 metres away from the bungalow. Guests are more than welcome to come up to the house if they have any questions, would like any advice on the area or need to access the wi-fi. We also take bookings for reef trips and other activities in the area. Wompoo Retreat is ideally situated. Just five kilometres from the beautiful Cow Bay Beach, 20 minutes from the Daintree River and 30 minutes to Cape Tribulation. Other easily accessible places are Hutchinson Creek, the Daintree Discovery Centre, Coopers Creek Wilderness tours, Canoe Tours, tropical ice cream outlets and a yoga retreat. Reef trips from Cape Tribulation can be arranged by your hosts and is only a 30 minute drive away. There are a number of restaurants and a hotel in the area, however, if you would like to eat in at your accommodation the bungalow is equipped for self catering. We recommend purchasing supplies either in Cairns, Mossman or Port Douglas. There is a small convenience store in Cow bay. With prior arrangement, a range of beverages can be made available. During the two hour drive from the Cairns International and Domestic Airports, you will travel the scenic Coral Sea coastline till you cross the Daintree River by ferry. Once aboard the iconic ferry you can sense the change of pace as you slowly switch off and start your journey of digital detoxing. The return cost on the ferry is $26, you can choose to purchase a visitors book if you want to have the option of multiple trips. House Rules It is because of the eco values of this area that we choose to live here, yet want to share this place with you. We reduce our human foot-print with thought placed on how we live. The spring water on our property is from an artesian fracture with no pesticides or herbicide input, and is tested, therefore safe for drinking. We generate our own solar power, but in times of high electricity demand, or little sun we may use the generator for short periods. You will notice the limited number of power points and the higher reliance on gas, this is to minimise power usage. We ask that high powered devices like hairdryers and shavers are not used. Check in from 2pm, check out 10.00am. A compost bin is provided for your food scraps. These will be placed in our compost and eventually end up in the garden. Smoking Policy We respect your right to smoke, however, it is not permitted inside the bungalows. Smoking is allowed on the deck area PROVIDED THAT all windows and doors remain closed. An ashtray is provided and we request that all cigarette butts, ash, tobacco or any used smoking product is disposed of correctly. Please don’t take any soiled ashtrays inside the accommodation.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing views and beautiful space. Peter and Jill are great hosts. The eco friendly concept is thought through and works really well. Highly recommend staying here if you want to experience the sounds and views of the Daintree. A shower with an amazing view. The boutique homemade soap is awesome. Great breakfast with homegrown fresh fruits. An overall amazing place to stay and experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My wife and I came from California and stayed for two nights on our honeymoon. Highly recommended for any couple looking to get away from a schedule. Definitely try to stay more than one night to slow down, wake up with the sun, take advantage of the awesome outdoor bath, watch the view change throughout the day, cook your meals in the sweet outdoor kitchen and take some time to enjoy this special part of the world. The whole area is super interesting. We left early to catch our snorkel with Ocean Safari, but a huge thank you to the hosts that live up the hill for a great stay we’ll never forget. The great part of this place is the attention to detail and simplicity of it all. We’ll be back!

Pros: Could not recommend this beautiful property any more, we were there for two nights for our honeymoon and could ask for more. To overlook the mountains of the Daintree rainforest, listen to the birds and to have a warm bath looking up at the stars was unforgettable. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, just over the road from the pub... where the meals are ok..good pub-style food. The property is set back amongst the trees, so don't be put off by the term "motel". There is an outdoor camp kitchen area for cooking. Rooms are comfortable. Hot water is variable as everything is solar, but that was not a problem. Easy access to all the Daintree sights. We stayed for 4 nights but could have been more if we had more time. Would recommend this property.
Cons: All good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is as the name suggests a retreat. This is off the grid and with limited wifi coverage it's the perfect place to unwind and go through a digital detox. You are surrounded by trees and there is an abundance of birdlife during the day and throughout the night. The retreat's greatest asset is its manager - he is warm, charming and extremely helpful and it's clear he has a passion for the Daintree and Cape Trib.
Cons: Nothing not to like.

Pros: The breakfast Marion made everyday was delicious. The location was right in the heart of the rainforest so was able to sleep and wake to the wonderful sounds of the jungle.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location, in the heart of the rain forest, and helpful advice from Marion were excellent.
Cons: The weather (it rained a lot).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Really an oasis. Charming settings in the rainforest, beautiful furnishing and garden.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: What a beautiful timber house in the jungle! Decorated with an Asian theme, all wooden floors and paravans. Large windows allow the greenery of the lush garden in. We booked the two rooms and had the house for us.
Cons: There is no telephone signal in the area - the nearest point to get a signal is a bungalow hotel a few km away. No wifi of course, so there may be a problem for internet addicts. Not a negative but something to consider - there is no village or any kind of real settlement in Cow bay - just houses dispersed in the jungle. A couple of hotels nearby offer meals...that’s about it in terms of “civilisation”. None of the beaches north of Port Douglas is swimmable because of crocodles.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: - Beautifully located in Daintree rainforest - Small scale with 2 rooms - Tropical style building and surrounding gardens - Helpful host
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Peace, quiet, tranquillity, nature. Our host Marion was absolutely fabulous, great service, meals, wonderful advice on what to see and do, and very welcoming. Thank you Marion, you made our stay special.

7.5 Good
Pros: That we had the entire accommodation to ourselves.
Cons: The proximity to other guest rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house was beautifully situated in the garden/ bush, with the central space opening out to the garden. It was full moon when we were there, and it was great sitting on the deck in the night with great view of the stars with bush sounds. The house is very handy to the Cow Bay beach and to other places up towards Tribulation. We saw some wildlife, including Cassowary's nearby. Marion is a very helpful friendly host with lots of local information. The breakfast is great. Marion generously made us an early breakfast on our last day as we had to leave early in the morning. We had a great stay and look forward to coming back one day.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts were gracious to aid us in all of our travel issues. Our flight into Cairns left my bag back in Sydney and continued to cancel flights in which my bag would fly on. Throughout this process of coordinating me gathering all my belongings Sally was so gracious and helpful coordinating with the airport and arranging pickup while we enjoyed the local environment. Our hosts were so approachable, the tour on the river was a walk from our private accommodation. The morning teatime outside on the terrace overlooking the rainforest/river was an amazing way to wake yourself up. We even saw crocodiles from the limited portion of river we were exposed to. The bed was very comfortable and accommodating. The room was cosy and we fell asleep to the sound of the rain and animals. They had everything we needed and assisted when we did not. This was the favorite accomodation of our trip throughout the Eastern Peninsula of Australia and both North and South Island of New Zealand.
7.5 Good
Pros: Secluded
Cons: It was awesome nothing to dislike

Cons: No fridge or fan if it had both of them then would be perfect

Pros: Closeness of the rainforest, the seclusion, it was very quirky and had lots of character and the closeness of the wildlife. The owner was very creative and had hand built most things on the site, including a lovely sculpture walk.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is secluded in the midst of the rainforest. It so peaceful. It has a beautiful small pool and close access to a wonderful creek and two water holes. The staff are very helpful. The restaurant food was really very good indeed - possibly one of the best restaurants In Daintree. It was so peaceful. We would definitely go back.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location was the main reason we stayed here. It is conveniently inside the rainforest and close to the attractions we wanted to see.
Cons: The room was not very clean with smudge marks on walls, dirty floors. The tv cabinet had broken handles that were just sitting on top. The candles provided were used and empty. The tv would not work. The remote to the air con didn’t work and the staff were not at all worried about fixing it. We had dinner at the restaurant first night which was very overpriced for poor quality tasteless meals. The breakfast was nothing special. Very expensive for what it is.

6.8 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: We had the 2 rooms across from what I think was a generator that went all night, and in the morning there was a pungent smell of fuel in our room. I think we paid the same price as others further up the path. Also it had no sink in the living area, you had to use the bathroom basin to wash up.
6.8 Good
Pros: Quiet and relaxing environment
Cons: Room could have been serviced at least once in the 5 days, having to ask for toilet paper and towels was abit annoying
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good size room. Very comfortable bed. Beautiful surroundings. Wallaby and parrot rescue great. Excellent meal at restaurant. Good central location in Daintree. Reasonable room rate for Daintree.
Cons: Had a toaster but no crockery, cutlery or micro wave. Could also use a broom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I had my Cousin Pierino &karla and sun Aris (10 years old boy from Switzerland
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is brilliant, right in the thick of the rainforest and an animal rehab centre is located only metres from the units so while having your cuppa you get to interact with wallabies, this was a highlight for us. I loved waking to the rainforest noises, birds singing their hearts out etc. We didn't eat at the facility but the selection on the menu looked good and prices were reasonable. The manager was also a highlight, he is enthusiastic and fantastically informative about the wildlife rehab and his love of the rainforest and trying to be a part of it's integrity. Not often you chat to someone with a sensational parrot on his shoulder. We loved the fact units had tea and coffe making plus a toaster and fridge.
Cons: A very small improvement would be a microwave....either in the room or down at the cooking area. Maybe the bathrooms in the units are getting a wee bit tired but still clean and very functional. Frankly there was very little we didn't like. ****apologies for the upside down photos for some reason that was how the uploaded

Cons: The fridge wasn't working at all. We were asked about a dinner booking & said yes but there was no menu or pricing offered. When we showed up at 1830 to check the menu we were dismissed by the maitre,d saying no table was available. The restaurant was almost empty! Also got jammed in the room by a faulty lock, needed to climb out the window!
4.5 Okay
Pros: Unfortunately there was not much we particularly liked. Best asset of the Ferntree Rainforest Lodge is its location. The small apartment we stayed in had apparently not been used for a while, as the beds in the loft were covered in dust and the blankets were damp and smelly. The friendly girl who was called to solve this apologized and mentioned she only had a broom to clean the floor and no hoover to get rid of the dust.
Cons: On arrival, when following the signs to the reception desk, we ended up at a dilapidated building where the reception once had been, but no longer was. After some wandering around, we finally met someone who directed us to the current 'reception desk'. We were met with little enthusiasm and quickly introduced to the do's and don'ts before receiving the key and some instruction on how to get to the accommodation. We inadvertently had understood the apartments were self-catering and thus brought some food to cook. When asked if there was an opportunity to cook somewhere (we knew there was, as we had seen a shared kitchen in the former reception building), we were told such was not available, but we would need to use the restaurant (and we would need to book quickly, otherwise it would be full). Disappointing of course, however, when we inquired at the small grocery across the road, the friendly owner advised us to ask next door if we could use the common kitchen of PK's Jungle Village Hostel. We did, and much to our surprise that was no problem at all. Excellent service and hospitality! We were not the only ones to be somewhat disappointed about the service at Ferntree Rainforest Lodge. Our last-day neighbours came to us in the morning asking if we had some tea bags to spare, as they had not got them. We did, as we noticed the day before we too had not gotten any and went to the reception (closed) and then the restaurant to ask for some tea and coffee bags, which we got without any apologies or whatsoever. While we could cope with the modest service provided, we were unpleasantly surprised to discover on the day we left that the water which was always on our bathroom floor, was seeping from the toilet sewer. We were happy to leave.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully designed room with loft bedroom. Lovely large windows.
Cons: Strange that there were no teaspoons in the room with the tea and coffee making facilities - though this was provided when we asked for it. But we noted that the onsite restaurant also had some cutlery issues. Bathroom could do with an update.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location was nice.
Cons: They changed reception to another area but no notices to show it. Pool was closed & unusable. Only one girl serving many customers in dining area. Long wait to order food & drink.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Very disorganised, room not ready and the meal we had was served over a long period, so the first meal was cold before we got the second one
6.8 Good
Pros: Lovely place in the middle of the rainforest.
Cons: Bathroom and certains things need to be renovated
8.0 Excellent
Cons: There was mould in the bathroom, which definitely needs to be addressed, as well as a general update of the bathroom and shower.
6.8 Good
Pros: Location was fantastic. Beautiful setting.
Cons: The place is old and tired. Run down. Needs maintenance, Eg curtains should be fixed - missing hanging loops. The blinds don't fully close. Shower screen wouldn't close properly. Toilet seat broken. Hard beds. No place to sit in room except on beds. The food at the restaurant was worse than I could make at home. The chips were stodgy. The curry was uninteresting. The wait staff were fantastic, but at the start of the rush only one person available to do everything was ludicrous.
4.3 Okay
Pros: The location
Cons: The intense smell of mould in the room and the horror movie style abandoned building that greets you in the car park
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The nature
