Pros: Longtown is a small village on the main A7 road around five miles south of the Scotland / England border served by regular buses north to Hawick and Edinburgh and South to Carlisle (around 25 minutes by bus), Gretna shopping outlet, and onwards west to Annan and Dumfries. There's also a less frequent service to Haltwhistle. Gretna and Annan and Dumfries offer a range of other destinations. Nearest local railway station is a Gretna Green while the main West Coast mainline station at Carlisle is around five minutes walk from Carlisle bus station. There are two free cashpoints nearby and a Spar off licence, post office, butcher, chemist, ironmonger, gift shop, hairdresser, bakery, petrol station, optician and various food carry outs in the village as well as a hotel and pub. On street car parking is free and appears plentiful. To the accommodation itself, it comprises a restaurant / cafe with a wide menu and includes a range the gluten free food and home cooking. The staircase to the first floor bedrooms was well carpeted and in excellent condition. The bedroom and ensuite bathroom were both spacious and very well appointed and serviced by friendly staff. Breakfast menu offered a large choice and was freshly cooked by the extremely pleasant owner.

Pros: This was the second time we had stayed in the Pentonbridge and if anything it had improved . The rooms are well designed , comfortable and clean. The staff helpful and accomomdating with one remembering us from our earlier stay which was 15 months previous. The food was excellent with a limited but adequate choice . It was served well with times from ordering to arriving not lengthy. All in all an excellent experience
Cons: being charged for bread and butter as a "side dish " at dinner. This is unusual and seems to us to not be in keeping with everything else the Pentonbridge is about

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very secure cycle facility. Nice and clean . Great hostel !
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was help yourself to cereal (muesli etc) with milk/sugar. Toast, jam, tea and instant coffee - as much as you like. The owner was most helpful and chatty. We were late arriving as we had to get to Halfords to fix a bike problem and this was no problem. Bikes are stored in a cellar reached from the entrance hallway. Very secure and the owner carried them down for us (and back up the next day!). Make sure you take off what gear you need from bikes as once they are stowed away its awkward to get at them again once the cellar is locked and the owner gone away. Drying rack in room for damp cycling gear. Towels provided too. Good ensuite toilet/shower.
Cons: We had no complaints. It matched and probably exceeded our expectations.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was brilliant. Tea, coffee, cereal, bread, milk, sugar, jam all provided for breakfast for guests to help themselves, & included in the price. Hostel is in a wonderful location right beside Tullie House gardens and less than a minute from Carlisle cathedral and a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes. Owners are efficient, friendly, "no-fuss" people, have travelled widely themselves, and thought of everything. As an added bonus, the building is light and airy & tastefully decorated throughout.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Incredibly clean and a very friendly, welcoming owner
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Really friendly helpful staff and well kept, homely place.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The Staff! Very very helpful... as I was late arriving the owner sorted my check in via phone. The Hostel is in a Georgian town house, and it maintains a sympathetic decor in keeping with its surroundings, both warm, yet minimal. The room was clean, and with a fine view of the Tullie House Museum And Art Gallery across the road, with 3 toilets and 2 shower rooms at the end of the corridor.

Pros: This small hotel was very well equipped with lots of convenient plug-ins, lights, chairs and mirrors in the room. There is a lounge on the main floor attached to a room with tables and chairs people can sit in or play games at. That area has a microwave and coffee/tea bar. The hotel is licensed but is not a bar. The breakfast is included in the price and set so you can order your meal the night before. There is a large selection of other items to enjoy on the side bar. The staff is very accomodating and will issue a parking pass for the lot just up the street. Overall, we liked everything and highly recommend this b and b

9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location was superb & ideal for the city! The staff were approaching & friendly, welcoming & nice.
Cons: The noise! There were lots of banging outside the room in the car park late at night & early in the morning. The noise had a big impact on my lack of quality sleep.
4.2 Okay
Pros: I'm not prone to negative reviews--but felt compelled to write this one. The staff is terrific--but otherwise this is a vaguely dirty, slightly gross, mediocre hotel. Breakfast was badly done and in a large ballroom with dozens of pensioners on holiday. The room was badly stained, unkempt, with one of the worst beds I've encountered in over a million miles of traveling. Avoid if possible.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfy room and bed. Brilliant location. I was attending book festival and many events were in the hotel. I used the pool both days, a real plus for me. Staff all very friendly
5.8 Okay
Pros: The staff were great it was raining out and they gave us a umbrella.. The building also pools amazing as its victorian.
Cons: Didn't like the fact the rooms were so small and hid down a tiny hallway, the bedrooms are dated along with bathroom, the shower just dribbles out, the hairdryer not alot of power to it to be able to dry hair.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel
Cons: Nothing at all to complain about
7.1 Good
Pros: Nice location, in a quiet area
Cons: Parking
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The central location was excellent, the secure car park very good, breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and fruit. Which was very welcome. The hotel is dog friendly with no extra charge which is exceptional and made the hotel our first choice.
Cons: No complaints
4.6 Okay
Pros: We travelled from Kent for a family funeral, we wanted to be centrally located in the town and we were pleased with the location close to the shops etc.
Cons: The twin room we had was small, darkly lit and dirty. There was a long dark hair in one of the beds. The surfaces and above the door frame were dusty. There was grime on the inside of the bathroom door by the door handle, and the carpet was heavily stained in places. For the price we paid for the room, we would have expected a better standard of room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere of the the hotel and the friendly staff. The paintings and prints around the hotel were great
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A splendid once opulent place with historical reveals of its grand past.
Cons: Loose the heavy drapes and carpets, enable it to meet current minimalist trends whilst still retaining its glamour.
