    Located in Clinton County, Carlyle Lake is known as the “Gateway” to Illinois.’ Carlyle Lake is the largest man-made lake in Illinois and occupies 26,000 acres. In any given year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports that the lake can see over 3 million visitors.

    Surrounding the 26,000 acres of lake are 11,000 acres of public land which offers hunting ground to those visiting. Visitors can enjoy camping, fishing, water sports and hunting. Carlyle is home to two golf courses, Carlyle Lake Golf Club which features 36 holes of golf and Governors Run which offers 36 holes of championship golf.

    The Carlyle Sailing Association hosts several regattas throughout the year and has been sponsored by the U.S. Yacht Racing Union and the U.S. Olympics Sailing Teams.

    Carlyle is located approximately 50 miles east of St. Louis Missouri, which is the second largest city in Missouri. St. Louis. The economy of metro St. Louis relies on service, manufacturing, trade, transportation of goods, and tourism. Its metro area is home to major corporations, including Anheuser-Busch, Express Scripts, Energizer, Panera, Enterprise, Peabody Energy, Ameren, Monsanto, Scottrade, Edward Jones, Purina and Sigma-Aldrich.

    This city has also become known for a growing medical, pharmaceutical and research city. St. Louis has two professional sports teams: the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball and the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League. The city is generally known by the 630-foot tall Gateway Arch in Downtown St. Louis. St. Louis hosts two major universities which include St. Louis University and Washington University in St. Louis. St. Louis is served by the Lambert St. Louis International Airport, which is located along highway I-70 between I-170 and I-270 in St. Louis County. It is the largest and busiest airport in the state. In 2016, the airport has over 255 daily departures to about 90 domestic and international locations and a total of over 13 million passengers. St. Louis has immediate access to Interstates 64, 55, 44 and 70 as well as other key interstates. The Port of Saint Louis handles more than 32 million tons of freight each year and is a major shipper of grain, coal petroleum products and chemicals.
