It was a lovely place to stay and the welcome was second to none...would highly recommend. Not far off the motorway either and easy to find.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I wish we had booked more nights at Villa Richelieu! The beautiful, large room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was generous, fresh and excellent. I wish we had had more time to swim in the pool, play ping-pong etc. The host was delightful and spoke excellent English.
Cons: Our sat nav could only find the back of the house, which was confusing. Is there an alternative postcode to help us find the front gate?!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Modern Welcoming host Lovely breakfast Swimming pool on site
Cons: Our room was located by the front gate and main road. There was some noise from this and passing cars which lead to a disturbed nights sleep.

7.9 Good
Pros: The excellent staff. Great meals at a competitive price. The garden is an excellent place in the summer to enjoy and evening meal while the sun goes downn
Cons: The towels are not the best. They are not very thick and quite small. More sunshades would be good at the pool. A good clean of the garden chairs on a regular basis would enhance the garden and make sitting outside for relaxing or a pre dinner drink a better place
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent rooms, lovely food, staff very friendly
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous. A little treasure
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We love the location and the historical aspect of this hotel. It is comfortable and we particularly like the fact you can reserve for dinner in advance. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Parking is very easy and there is great access to the motorway for travelling onwards.

Pros: We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay. Our dinner was excellent and the staff made our stay enjoyable. The historic information provided was interesting.
Cons: The room was smaller than expected and the breakfast was expensive
5.8 Okay
Pros: It’s a beautiful location & a picturesque setting. The pool was welcome.
Cons: Ended up paying more than was advertised on the booking for the room. The room was cramped & the design was bizarre & not user friendly. Dinner was reasonable but there weren’t enough staff & service was slow. Breakfast was an absolute rip off...really terrible value & the staff in the morning were rude. The main house of this hotel is stunning but the details & layout everywhere else are not well put together & do not make the most of what should be a beautiful location.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Tranquil and relaxing. Great for the dog as there were grounds to explore ( on a lead). Swimming pool a bonus.

Pros: The proprietors were able to provide me with a breakfast meal to eat in my room as I had to catch an early morning train back to Paris and the provision of breakfast did not start until 07.00. I could also vacate the hotel without the proprietors needing to be present. This was appreciated.
3.3 Mediocre

7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good value. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean.
Cons: We stayed at this hotel because we needed stopover accommodation en route to England. We were not looking for a 5 star place and though the view was not scenic it was not an important factor in what we were looking for.
6.3 Good
Pros: Close to the highway, convenient
Cons: We arrived a bit before 2300h and the recepcionist wasnt there. In order to open the gate of the parking, you first need to go inside and pay upfront in a machine that gives you a couple of codes. All a bit confusing. We are pretty young and into technology so we figured it out how to do it. But I m sure that if someone that isnt into computers had to take the code, they would have slept in the car...
7.5 Good
Pros: A comfortable stay on the edge of the town.
Cons: The hotel was fine. Chatellerault itself was very disappointing, we won’t be making another visit.
6.3 Good

Overview Reviews
Located in Chatellerault, La Gourmandine is a 4-minute drive from Chatellerault Forest Park and 10 minutes from Aven’Thuré. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It’s an atmospheric old building which in its heyday would have been I guess an elegant residence. The interior decor is a mix of traditional and modern. Our room had high ceilings and large French windows. It had been adapted to provide an in room modern shower and a partitioned off loo. A bit quirky but ok ! The bed was very comfortable. No in room facilities for making tea or coffee though. There was private parking in the courtyard and only a few minutes to walk to restaurants. The breakfast was standard continental fare, I had absolutely delicious wholemeal baguette, farm made yogurt, fresh orange juice and good coffee. They provided me with decaf which is always appreciated.
Cons: Nothing really. It’s good to stay somewhere which has individuality and is comfortable and in a town location but easy to get to off the motorway on our route back to Caen.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything really, the host (Dominique) her friendly staff and courteous nature and the Accomodation was beautifully French.
Cons: Nothing
2.9 Mediocre
Cons: Everything you have my emails

Pros: Bedroom was clean and bed was comfortable. The property has ovely architecture and a nice garden. Staff pleasant and helpful.
Cons: A bad impression on our arrival mid afternoon as the breakfast room had not been cleared. It was nice and tidy a few hours later though. We were surprised to find evening meals are no longer available. We had an excellent dinner very nearby though.
2.9 Mediocre
Cons: property was very run down, seemed as if it was on it's last legs. Staff were virtually invisible
5.4 Okay
Pros: Not a lot
Cons: Poor facilities Bath very slow to fill with water and broken plug release made the bath impossible to empty No tea or coffee and also very poor lighting on entry to the room Very expensive meals and no explanation to restaurant and bar facilities In conclusion very overpriced
7.5 Good
Pros: The clean pleasant surroundings, helpful staff, excellent breakfast, spacious room, modern bathroom; very pleasant overnight stop on the way south.
6.3 Good
Pros: Good room. Convenient location. Quiet. Parking on site.
Cons: Breakfast was poor value for money. No lifts - lots of stairs to climb. No restaurant (October)

7.1 Good
Pros: The pool
Cons: The room did not have a pool view nor was there a bar or a restaurant however the food was adequate and I did have some decent wine
7.1 Good
Pros: Breakfast was excellent and we also had a lovely dinner. The bed was very comfortable and a nice clean room with nice towels. The dining area was very rustic and attractive. Easy parking.
Cons: Toilet seat broken and wobbly. Shower head in bath had no fixation point on the wall so difficult to use. Room was very hot could do with a fan. Stairs would be difficult for someone with poor mobility. Not easy to find off the main A10 without very detailed map.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The lady owner was very friendly. She did her best
Cons: The accommodation is outdated and overpriced breakfast is very sober
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old manoir. Very good service and wonderful welcome. Everything homemade for breakfast. Nice pool, necessary this summer!
5.0 Okay
Pros: The chateaux is very pretty, the beds were comfy, bathroom was clean, dinner was nice and the wine was delicious. We arrived early and they let us check in and let us book dinner on the day.
Cons: The whole house was very tired. Needed a lot of time and effort spent on cleaning and renovating. Whole front needed weeding. There were flies everywhere! Outside by the pool and inside whilst having dinner and breakfast. Needed some sort of traps for them around the house as it made eating very uncomfortable and having flies all over the breakfast the next morning didn’t make you want to eat it. The room was boiling and needed a fan and again a fly trap. We had a triple room but there was not enough towels for 3ppl. Flannel in the room looked like it was from the Victorian age. No tea or coffee in the room even though a kettle was provided. No soap or anything to wash with. Thank goodness we had our own. Dogs walking around the property were full of flies and stank. Also barked all night keeping us awake until 1am even though we went to bed at 10pm as we had a long drive back to the UK. Dinner was nice but basic and the service was very poor. Breakfast was shocking. Everything as I said was covered in flies and apart from a hard piece of bread and ham which looked like it had been there all night there wasn’t much else to eat. Cereal was provided but no milk. When I asked for some water she gave me a look as to say what?! We asked for some boiled eggs, which came very hard and nothing really to have them with. We got charged over €200 for the room and dinner which was so over priced. Chateaux was one term but this was a run down old farm house with smelly dogs and flies!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice place, a lot of space Little lake at the bottom
5.4 Okay
Pros: Nice room, but that's all.
Cons: No evening meal, no swimming pool, this is really just rooms in a farm yard. Tatty and rundown.
7.9 Good
Pros: The range of food was lovely. Marie produces most things personally so it is all fresh. Everything is beautifully presented and prepared.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Charming, full of potential property.
Cons: Feels neglected, the room wasn’t clean to a high standard, no key to the room, and very poor breakfast.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfy beds, sheets beautiful quality. Swimming pool superb!
Cons: Nothing

9.6 Excellent
Pros: For the small price it was everything you expect. Functional in every detail, just don’t hope for any extra touches or fancy decor. Breakfast was surprisingly good.
Cons: Too far from the nearest restaurants. These hotels normally have a restaurant next door, but here it was a kilometre away, so either a easy walk or out in the car again.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location near motorway, and staff spoke excellent english
Cons: Rooms were tiny
5.0 Okay
Pros: Good location if you are travelling with the car through France, as long as it is close to the A10 exit and it has nice parking spaces. The hotel itself has everything you need to spend a night on the road.
Cons: My legs were full of red spots after the night, I was bitten several times during the night by bed bugs and complained to the reception. Althogh room seemed clean, they have to do something to tackle seriously with this problem.
6.7 Good
Pros: It was convenient, clean and for an overnight stop close to motorway it was ideal.
Cons: Towels were useless. It was quite noisy if windows were open.Room was very small and shower
6.7 Good
Pros: Convenient for an overnight stop when travelling the length of France, basic facilities - not much more to say.
Cons: Nothing outstandingly good or bad
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Reasonably priced stop over with plenty of retaurants nearby.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: In a good location for us just off the motorway for our journey down south.Good place if you have dogs, grounds around the hotel to excercise them and completely secure. There is a good restaurant just up the road which is an all you can eat Chinese.
Cons: The bed was a bit hard for us.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It's a quiet, clean hotel in an industrial zone. Simple restaurants are in walking distance. The breakfast was good and worth the €6.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Does exactly what is says on the tin - functional accommodation at a great price. Car parking is right outside, and there are some eateries near by. I liked the fact that there is a largish table by reception where the four of us could sit together - a small shared space other than a breakfast is helpful and often overlooked.
Cons: Its on the outskirts of the town, so you don't get the atmosphere of the location. But ideal if you are just looking for a stopover to break up the journey.
7.1 Good
Pros: Ground floor room
Cons: No dogs allowed at breakfast, this was the only hotel we had this issue

Not only was he welcoming and helpful from the start, he found a wallet I had left on the table and traced me to our room to return it. Pros: This is an extremely basic m/hotel with a re-purposed ship's bathroom installed en-suite in each very small room :) All that I knew when I booked it as a stop overnight. It all mostly worked. What I was not expecting: - beds spotless and more comfortable than the 3+ star hotel we stayed in the night before - almost new aircon - non-savoury but excellent breakfast with better coffee than in said 3+ -star - Good TV - lots of hot water - Full-size fridge! Overall very basic, very good value, convenient to motorway, ideal for an economic overnight stop. All essentials present. Better than most very cheap places as has en-suite. Wife happy. I will return.
Cons: Bit run down - shower-head wall holder busted (shower worked fine), floor could perhaps have been cleaner, but OK. Not worth a complaint though at the price I paid!
7.9 Good
Pros: Good enough for travelling through

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Just about everything. Shabby exterior not very welcoming
5.4 Okay
Pros: Check in a staff were friendly polite and professional. Location was perfect for a stop off when travelling. Door locks were very secure and sheets were cleaned. Priced perfect for over night stop over.
Cons: Entire place is tired, attempt to decorate but left masking tape stuck to beds, window didn't close, TV remote missing, cobwebs everywhere and bed was hard.
7.9 Good
Pros: Big bedroom and good bed...good car parking...
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff helpful, room was clean, showers good. Breakfast basic but ok. Eating places are within walking distance.
Cons: WC cubicles have no sink for handwashing! not good. Found it tricky to find, Google maps unhelpful (I was travelling by bicycle), wasted at least an hour trying to find it (it's about 1 mile North of the town centre, on a 'trading estate'). Not the hotels' fault!
