Lots of the companies don’t explain the insurance options, Wiber explained it really well to us and made us feel comfortable making our decision. You have 2 options which is a large sum charged to your credit card (you get this back upon returning the car AND absolutely no damage to the car) any damage and they will take the necessary funds from the credit card charge. I do not like this option, while you may be confident in your driving you cannot be certain other drivers will not cause damage to the car. The 2nd option is a one off payment whilst at the rental company which covers you completely, you can drop the car off and you don’t have to wait while they check/inspect the car. Wiber had a very reasonable fully covered charge, I believe it was around £150, another car rental company previously charged us £300 for this.

I selected the "mystery special" which ended up being a minivan. It was ok for my needs (highway driving) but may be to large for some to drive around in European towns with narrow streets.

Fuel is easy to find and dont hire an enormous car as off the main roads the local roads are narrower and Spanish drivers are fair but dont drive slowly on these roads!

KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Alicante
Alicante has a plethora of attractions and mesmerizing sights dotting the city, from the Castell de la Santa Bàrbara to the beautiful Old Town spreading to the harbor. Whether visiting the Costa Blanca, exploring all of the city’s attractions, or even venturing out into the countryside, with a rental car everything is easier since you get to decide when and where to go. You may even want to explore the city of Murcia, only a 1-hour drive away.
When you arrive at Alicante’s International Airport, head to the car rental agency desks in the arrivals hall at the terminal building. There, major companies like Goldcar, Europcar, and Sixt offer vehicles for all tastes. The quickest way into the city center is via the A-70, but the N-332 is a more scenic route along the coast.
In Alicante you can be fined for driving in flip-flops, high heels, or barefoot. It is recommended to wear proper foot attire while driving and probably even to opt for closed shoes when sitting behind the wheel -- you can always trade them for flip flops once arriving at the beach. Laws in Alicante are strictly enforced, so ensure you familiarize with them beforehand, as the police usually do not accept excuses (not even from tourists). The legal drinking limit is 0.05% and penalties are enforced when drivers are above that.
Around Alicante there are various toll roads, so be sure to bring cash with you and map out the routes in advance, so you know when and where to pay. Around Alicante, the AP7 is a toll road that can be avoided by taken the N-332, which is a bit slower but has no tolls. Traffic on the toll roads, however, is usually lighter; so, for a quicker ride, it could be worth investing the money.
To hire a car from one of the companies offering cheap car rentals in Alicante, you must be at least 21 years old. Once you meet this requirement, you must present your agency with your driver’s license from your home country, an identification card for proof of your identity, and a credit card to complete the payment. In case you’re a non-EU citizen, it is required by law that you hold an International Driver’s Permit. Note that if you’re below 25 years old, you will pay a bit more than older drivers since most Alicante car rentals involve an additional fee for young drivers.
Under Spanish regulations, children under 12 can’t travel in the front seat unless they’re in car seats intended for that purpose, or they are at least 4 feet 11 inches (135 cm) tall, in which case they can use adult safety belts. If you intend to have your child ride in your Alicante car rental, the type of child car seat you should install in the car will be influenced by their height and weight. Your child must sit on an infant carrier if he weighs below 22 lbs and is less than 2 feet 6 inches (76 cm) tall, and a booster seat if they weigh between 33 and 44 lbs and between 3 feet 3 inches (98 cm) and 4 feet (123 cm). Companies where you can get cheap car rentals in Alicante offer child car seats upon request.

Supplier choice
Car had a technical problem (windshield wipers in very poor state) making the drive difficult and dangerous at night in the rain. Upon returning the car, the employee was very helpful, understanding, and professional, and he offered us compensation which we gratefully accepted. It was a pleasure to deal with him.
I had a very disappointing experience with this company. The check-in and drop-off processes were both unnecessarily long. At return, I was charged for a small scratch that I hadn’t even noticed when I picked up the car. The vehicle was originally parked in a shaded area, which made it difficult to see any imperfections, but during drop-off they inspected it in direct sunlight where every minor flaw was visible. They refused to offer any fair resolution and charged me more for the supposed repair than the entire rental itself. Based on this experience, it feels like their business model relies on unfair charges rather than service.

After a few bad experiences with car rental companies in Spain and America, we were hesitant when booking but Wiber were excellent I cannot fault their service. Very informative staff who were happy to answer all our questions, friendly and all round excellent service. Prices were reasonable. Car was immaculate and perfect for our trip. Hector was especially great but I could not fault any of the staff there. Close to the airport, shuttle bus runs smoothly. We will 100% use them in future.

Got charged $100 for minor scratch on wheel rim. Low rental fees but be aware they recoup margins by frivolous damage charges

Everything was smooth except of the insurance part. Like all car rental companies they have tactics to scare you into buying the full insurance. They should mention it as an option but not scare you into buying it due to excessive charges from the tiniest of things like a small scratch.
They try to charge me for a scratch that was already on the car , only because I took a picture when I picked up the car that they didn’t

Been hit with a 200 plus euro charge for a scratch on the alloy. I failed to spot it on my walk round at pick up, which you do on your own without staff. I have categorically not kerbed it driving out and about in the resort. On returning the car, a very thorough return inspection is done. The scratch on the alloy is not recorded so it’s now on me. The scratch is old by the way, and in keeping with the general condition of the car, which has racked up a fair few miles. 180 euro for the scratch to be repaired (which it won’t be) and a 50 euro admin fee. Be very careful when doing your unaccompanied walk round at pick up.
Desk reprezentative ript klient from money for every possible way, for additional driver which I dont want to,and paying full Insurance coverege which I also dont want to.
