I would suggest you find out if there’s something going on in the city on the day you arrive because they don’t hold cars for you. A reservation doesn’t appear to mean much. It appears to be first come first served, and so, if you arrive late, you may not have a car even with the reservation.

Verified travelerOct 2025

I wish I knew in advance that Frontier flies into the South Terminal - so factor a shuttle ride in and approximately 1/2 additional hour into your pickup and drop off time.

IWRSep 2025

Ask if they have similar vehicles to the one you pay for

Verified travelerJun 2025

Look into where your car rental place is located and extra possible costs before booking.

ChrisApr 2025

Pre check in if you can so you can skip the counter and go straight to car. Made the arrival pickup lightning fast

CharlesApr 2025

Ensure you can either get a refundable rental, or that you absolutely have the rental at the airport if you are picking up from there.

Verified travelerDec 2024

Use Avis. They will send you the details for your car before you get off the plane and you can avoid the line. Hertz has been terrible in Austin the last three times I rented from them.

JimOct 2024

Make sure you specify “no electric car” in your reservation, didn’t even know this was a thing…

Verified travelerAug 2024

Not to rent where they have to pick the car off airport and to make sure it’s a 24hrs service.

nickJun 2024

Book directly through a rental car agency. Third party won’t let you make any changes

BrittanyApr 2024

Traffic in Austin is pretty easy to navigate and driving in and out of the city was manageable even for us who aren't from a large city. Expect the longest line at Hertz for a rental car.

Verified travelerApr 2024

Anything you can find on turo. Downtown is kind tight parking, but Texas has plenty of space for any car outside of downtown.

BudApr 2024

There are a lot of toll roads. The airport has a separate entrance and exit to stay away from toll roads but it’s very easy to screw up and hit the toll road right away. On the way back I put no toll roads and I didn’t hit one. On the way out I’m pretty sure I hit one so I’ll get a bill in the mail. Sucks.

StefanieDec 2023

Get the toll tag and use the express lane on mopac! Used to be a chill town but these days people speed - be aware.

ClintNov 2023

I would pay the extra amount of money necessary to rent a car at the airport and not utilize offsite rental car agencies in Austin. The traffic is very congested in Austin and the offsite rental car process takes considerable more time.

Verified travelerOct 2023

Go Thrifty and just ask about tolls before you go, just in case. But my experience was smooth and no need for any panic.

Verified travelerOct 2023

Stick with on site reputable businesses. The big names that know what they are doing.

JosephOct 2023

You don’t need the toll road sensor thing. Also be careful when using Hertz.

Downtown is notorious for towing so just be careful and look thoroughly for signs. If it's a pay to park area, you won't be towed unless explicitly noticed and you'd probably be fine not getting a ticket etc if you did it's not much.

It's ok, if you don't want to pay for the toll roads configure your maps before driving.

Parking is available on the streets of Austin, in garages, public parking lots, or at your hotel (if offered). When parking on the street, note that it may be metered, and be sure to check the time limits. Alternatively, consider a parking garage such as ABM Parking, LAZ Parking, or 924 E Dean Keeton Street Parking, where you can park for longer periods — but always read the signs to confirm the rules.

I arrived with my reservation and they didn’t have any cars. They told me I’d need to go somewhere else. Other rental companies were booked up because of a big F1 races and the few available cars at other rental companies were triple the price. I ended up without a car for a weekend with my elderly grandmother who is 96. It’s irresponsible to confirm a reservation is there isn’t a car available!

Drop off was very hectic. First time to Huoston airport. Tried to return the car quickly as I had a flight to catch . Couldn't locate budget easily. It took me 40 minutes to figure out where exactly they were. I wish if there were clear instruction of their drop off location rather than the address they provided which accommodates dozen more rental brands. However , pickup in Austin was hassle free and exceptional.

Absolutely terrible experience the other day at this site. The Budget counter was unmanned. Sign stated to use the Avis desk, which only had one rep on duty. Significant line/wait. I was in line for 45 minutes waiting for a car, and after finally getting a car assignment, went upstairs to find that another patron had been given the same car, forcing the other patron to go BACK into line again. I returned the car with a full tank of gas and was still charged 31.97 for fuel service. I will never, ever, rent from Budget ever again.

Pickup truck

The counter associate told me as Check-in that not only did they not have any pickup trucks available, but that Hertz in central Texas does not offer same-day truck rentals. I spoke with a customer service agent at their 800 number, but she only wasted my time with non-solutions. I canceled my reservation, then rented directly with Enterprise.

Compact SUV

I used the skipped the line feature when checking in and the car that I was given, had no lower anchors for car seats so the remedy was I had to wait in line at the desk which completely defeated the skip the line process, even though the car parked next to the original car did have low anchors. Unhappy toddlers mixed with a long line made this for a very poor experience when it could’ve just been “pick any of these in this section.”

Everything was very good except they only had one person staffing the whole office which increased wait time.

Absolutely horrible. Multiple reservations made and canceled claiming cars were available when they actually weren't. Rude staff. Anonymous after-hours text canceled my reservation on short notice, then refused to refund my pre-paid amount. Had to spend several hours on phone grttinga refund. Will NEVER rent from them again. Canceling my Gold Membership with them

Nice car, but it says you can change drop off spot, but none were available. There were 3 locations that would have been closer. I'll admit I choose the wrong location, but don't advertise you can change location and not be available

Passenger van

I called to confirm my reservation and that the van was available 48 hours before then 24 hours later they called and said they were cancelling the reservation because they needed the 15 passenger vans for the F1 race at COTA. It was disappointing I made a reservation, confirmed it then was told they gave the van to the highest bidder, capitalism. I had reserved the van for an amusement park trip for 11 teenagers. I had to scramble 24 hours before to find an additional driver and 2 cars that could accommodate 13 people.

Avis did not have any cars available for anyone at the Austin airport tx location. Told they may have cars in 3-4 hours but probably not what you originally reserved. No way to do business. Went to another onsite rental car company who had available cars for a lower rate.

When I got there, they only had 18 passenger vans. They did not have the car reserved. It was 11 PM and I had my two nephews with me. They ended up giving me an electric car that was not charged. It was my first time driving an electric car, and I actually loved the way the car drove, however, we had to stop and charge it to get to my brother’s house because it only had 30% charge when we left Avis. By the time we got to my brothers it had something like 9% charge left. We charged it for 40 minutes and only gained 1%. The next day I had to park the car at the charger and leave it. I was not able to use the car at all. It only served me to get to my brothers and to get back to the airport. And I could only get back to the airport by charging it for six hours. Meanwhile, my brother had two electric chargers that we could not use because they did not have a Tesla converter plug in the car. Those plugs are free from Hyundai, but they didn’t have them so high-speed charging was out as an option. The car was dirty as well. I was told I could exchange the car, but the only Avis dealership within the range of the charge that I had had no cars. So I paid a lot of money for a car I couldn’t use.

The longest check-in line I have ever waited on in 47 years. And they did not have anything in the class of car that I had booked, and effectively downgraded me to an suv. Had I not advocated for myself for a different model at least, I would have gotten a terrible car. Generally when the class I've booked hasn't been available, I've gotten an upgrade to something better. The fact that they bumped me to something worse is a disgrace.

Was not able to pick up a rental car after getting into Austin because my flight was delayed. No arrangement was made. Had to spend money on two different Lyft rides in order to be able to pick up the car the next day. Very disappointed. Really left me in a lurch. What is the point of having a rental car if you need to use Lyft anyway? Overall, terrible experience. I will probably not use dollar again for business or personal trips

Car was fine. Getting to the off airport pick up was complicated, pick up and drop off took a long time. The check in process was a little strange, they require you to have your own car insurance to rent.

Bad. They notify me once I arrived at the airport that I had to wait 20 mins for them to sent a shuttle to come pick me up to take me to the car rental place. That’s too far and too inconvenient

Definitely not “easy to rent”. We waited for 1.5 hours for a shuttle to pick us up from the designated area. Called the office 2 times and was told the shuttle driver should be coming by… I was then put on hold for 21 minutes before I hung up. By that time, 10 other people showed up to be picked up and they, too, called and were placed on hold or told the same thing. When the shuttle finally came and was dropped off at the office there was only one gentlemen manning the desk. The procedure was clunky and, of course, was lengthy. They didn’t have the car we rented ready so, for the sake of our time, we accepted a lesser vehicle. While the guy at the desk was friendly nought, all we kept hearing was “it’s not my fault people don’t do their jobs”… over all, it was a pretty frustrating experience. Not worth saving a few extra $ since we had to Uber from the drop off because the office was closed.

I do not recommend Easirent and will not use them again. Wait for pick up at airport was very long. Time for paperwork and processing at facility was very long and slow. It was supposed to be low cost but multiple add on costs made it not such a good deal. Car was very dirty on inside - seat was very stained to the point that I needed to get a seat cover. Checkout was fast but I got no accounting at end of rental and did not get receipt. I am waiting to see what the final cost will be. Staff people were friendly.

When I booked it, stated it was on the airport campus. It was not. We had to wait for a shuttle. One man had been waiting 45 minutes. The shuttle came and it was a 10-15 minute ride from the airport. We arrived and there were no cars. There were about 5 other parties waiting for cars. One couple had already been waiting 2.5 hours. I canceled my reservation and got an Uber. I learned my lesson and will never use a company I’m not familiar with again. It wasn’t worth saving money.

The make you pay $25 per day for insurance if you don’t bring your declaration page from your personal car insurance documents with you. Nobody caries that while traveling! The insurance was equal to the rental fee
