Got a mini SUV for the reservation of an intermedi
Pros: Easy and quick process to get the car from SJC airport, the whole process took less than 10 minutes, including no waiting lines, and taking the elevator up to the 5th floor.
No one pressured me to purchase insurance, I was really surprised.
Cons: I reserved an intermediate SUV, Jeep cherokee or similar, however, the only thing available was Jeep Compass, which is one size down from the Cherokee and is called compact SUV or mini SUV, and the trunk is much smaller, so we had to put things on the back seat. This made one of the two guys sitting in the back uncomfortable.

Agent then reverts to saying that it is law to take extra insurance and I need to give him a certificate showing I have my own insurance.... These agents are trying to strong arm the consumers to make commissions

Middle of the road rental
Pros: The drop off was quick and easy.
The person at the counter was pleasant and did not try to push the "extras" on me when I didn't express interest (insurance and pre-paid gas)
Cons: The check in process took longer than it should have... about 30 minutes with only 1 person ahead of me in line and 2 rental agents.
Also had to wait an extra 10 minutes for the car to be washed... it should have been ready since I reserved it several days in advance.
The car was only marginally clean... there were stains on the seats and carpet and lots of scuffs, dings and marks on the exterior. Doesn't look like they take care of their vehicles very well.

- the interior of the car had at least 2 sticky spots. very unclean.

Pros: The woman who helped me check out the car was doing her best to be helpful. She was very apologetic and assured me that the situation was unusual. After returning the car, I am not so sure.
Cons: After waiting my turn to get to the counter to do the paperwork, I was directed to the 5th floor to pick up the standard sized car I had requested. There were very few cars available. The car I was assigned wasn't there at all. For some reason, I was asked to speak with the person who had helped me at the desk. He suggested a smaller car that was available, which I declined. I suggested a standard sized car I had seen in the lot. That was approved, but then they discovered it wasn't in their system. It took about 40 minutes to get the car into the system so I could take it.
When I returned the car, I was overcharged $25. The staff on the 5th floor were unable to correct the problem and sent me back to the person at the desk on the first floor. When I returned to the first floor, their computers were down. I had to leave for my flight.
I was given the name of a manager and a number to call, and I am hoping that will take care of the overcharge. If my experience is any indication of the way this (dis)organization runs, I can't imagine that Fox has many repeat customers. I certainly won't be back.

Bad policy of overbooking!
Cons: I arranged for my rental online through kayak. Took a cab from my hotel to San Jose Airport. When I arrived to pick up my car I was told there were no cars available. The clerk told me that they share the same we server as the larger rental companies and that for that reason it would appear there are cars when truly there are not. Seems to be a bad policy because if you show up and there are no cars, you are forced to rent from another company. In my case the rate increased by $20 per day at the other company. Not a fair policy. They should have a way to alert the customer that there are no available cars.

Horrible phone service
Pros: The car was great and handled great.
Cons: Called 3 times and wait was over 15 each and no response. Had to call and hold on forever before I finally got answer. Then the call center told me I had to go to location for any changes and when I got to location I was told to call the call center! I was so upset I told the location I was not going to hold for another hour! Possibly the worse call center wait ever! Will not use Fox again.
Pros: Easy and fast return in San Jose. Brought the car a day earlier and was promptly discounted

Pros: My car was reserved by a family member who chose an economy car. When the attendant saw that I had my elderly mother with me he upgraded us to a mid sized car so that she would be more comfortable. He did this at no extra charge. Very friendly fast service. Car was great.

Great experience overall
Pros: Daily rate was significantly lower than picking up at the airport. Staff was friendly. Got a free upgrade in vehicle type, which was unexpected and fun (we got a FIAT!) Car was clean.
Cons: Ended up not liking the car (not Enterprise's fault). It shifted horribly which made getting a freeways kind of scary. The vehicle only had half a tank in in when we picked it up, not a huge deal, because it meant we had less to put into it upon return. No shuttle service to and from airport was offered, I even asked about it and the answer was "no" but when picking up I saw a shuttle? Just meant when it was time to drop off we had to schedule in extra time to get to the airport on time while we picked up an uber. Lastly, on return day, we were there to drop off at 7:15, they don't open until 7:30 am. There were a handful of employees coming in and out, only one person greeted us. I get that, they weren't open yet. But we needed to get going, so we dropped the keys in the key drop box, and grabbed our uber to the airport. Then that evening (after literally the whole day) I received a call from them to let me know my total charges, and they tried to charge me for an extra day. I clarified with them very easily that I dropped the car off prior to them even opening, and most definitely did not keep it an extra day, and they fixed the issue immediately and I did not incur a charge. But a tad bit concerning nonetheless.

Poor customer service at SJC
Pros: Overall the cars were in good condition and had choice.
Cons: I had Pakistan's driver license that I have been using to rent cars in California for years. It was first time they couldn't accept it. After much request, I was sent to manager upstairs who was also unaware of it.
He refused to give me car! I asked for reasons and he said he hasn't seen this kind of license ever and is not in his 'book'. I requested the book of licenses to be shown. Once he opened it up and looked at it, he found it and then accepted my driver's license. All this took about 45 mins and lot of convincing!

Pros: I rent regularly, and have seen my share of good service and bad service. The Enterprise operation and team at San Jose Airport is very good. Quick trip through the rental line, easy to get to the rental floor, clean and well-maintained car, good communication, excellent customer service. Would rent with them again in a heartbeat!

Cons: There was no info telling me to go to 6th Floor for pickup when I arrived at the ariport for pickup around 6am on 11/24/15. The kiosk was out of order and tried to call enterprise at SJC, but I was not able to reach a live person for help. I waited on the ground floor for about 20 min until someone from Alamo was nice enough to tell me going to the 6th floor for pickup. Other than waiting for pickup, it was excellent.

Pros: They lied about the care. The promised a good size car. When i got there they tried to give me a much smaller car. I then of coarse has to take an upgrade too a much more expensive car. From $44 to $111. Bait and switch. Crooks. A mazda 2 is not comparable to a Nissan Versa.
Cons: I want a refund for my rental of $60 I was over charges.

Pros: Great service. Person showed me a row of cars and told me to pick one. I took my time, sitting in each one and looking at the cargo space. When I was ready, the keys were in the dash and ready to go.
Car was clean.

Cons: I would have liked more value for a one week rental.
It would be nice to distribute cell phone holders with the car (at no additional expense).

Cons: Vendor was rude and unprofessional. Car Was NOT what I reserved. I had reserved an intermediate sized car. Vendor put me in a Ford Focus, a car way too small for my needs. When I complained, vendor tried to upsell me into a larger car at TWICE the Price!! I was forced to take a car that was too small for my needs. Thanks a lot! I will never use Dollar again and I will badmouth Dollar from here on to anybody who cares to listen. Worst car rental company I have ever dealt with.

Pros: Loved the features in the car-- especially the syncing of my phone and contacts with the monitor in the car. Very cool and tres convenient to scroll through my music using a dial on the center consul. I got into another car the next week and went reaching for the dial when I realized it wasn't there.
Cons: I think the person who was in the car before me smoked in the vehicle. There was a hint of smoke odor in the car. I have a very sensitive nose to cigarette smoke, most would never have noticed it.

Booked A mini van for Sep longweekend
Cons: I booked the minivan and the money got debited immediately from my account. I had my reservation from 12Pm and reached @ 3:45 PM since the money got deducted assuming the minivan will be available but to our suprise the vehicle I booked was taken by some one who booked the reservation late.
after 10 - 15 mins finally said they had a bigger vehicle Toyota Sienna and told they will give it for an extra 15$ per day since its a deluxe SUV, since we dont had any option, we agreed to pay, after getting the keys we found the passenger side mirror broke down and couldnt stay and its falling down, after telling to them they said we know about it and you wont be covered for any liability, first thing is when they gave the keys they havent told us, but when we found it they said we knew abt it. after some questions their mechanic came and fixed with some glue. we completed the tour by taping the side mirror and with the glue we completed the trip.
When dropping the vehicle they waived all the extra charges(for upgrade) and taxes which I am supposed to pay. I got a better deal but only problem if I booked a car and paid upfront and due to my personal reasons if I want to cancel cannot do it and my money will be gone they wont refund it. why that doesn't apply to rental car agency, the only option given was either to take the toyota sienna or they can refund the money in the account.
Please be sure when taking the reservation.

Cons: I returned the car after 2 weeks, but was charged 1 full month on the multi-month program. They rented the car i returned to the lady directly behind me in line. Illegally doubling their profits. I've called 4 times and have been told "Call this dept. Call this store. No call this Dept." I feel cheated and Hertz couldn't care less!

Pros: Quick processing of pick up and drop off. Selection of cars is good. Car was clean.
Cons: Branch manager never in office and I'm still waiting for a call back regarding a charge waiver. I extended my rental over the phone and was given an updated amount. When i asked for an email confirmation they said it couldn't be provided. However when I returned the car I was charged $50 more! Employees said they couldn't do anything and the branch manager wasn't present on two different days when I followed up.
Pros: Staff's willingness to resolve the problem
Cons: They did not have mini-Van despite reserving it week ago and confirming over the phone an hour before the pick up.
During return, their system showed that I had driven 4000 miles in 60 hours. If I had not gone for unlimited miles, I would be in trouble. I lost 20 minutes during return because of their system goof up.

A smoker's car
Pros: The car had recently been smoked in, was masked by nauseating perfume, which wore off in 15 min and gave way to nauseating tobacco smell that lasted the entire trip, got into my clothes and luggage, and was offensive even to work colleagues who I drove to dinner on the third night of my conference. A horrible experience with budget. Unless they can offer an explanation or mitigate the disappointing rental, I'll always avoid their business and encourage others to do the same.

Worked perfect and at a great price
Pros: The cost kept going down, started at 26.76, left the ramp at 26.04 and turned in the car 100 miles later for 21.56. Not sure how that happens, but my wallet really likes the extra cash. Even upgraded by staff because they were out of smaller cars!

Cons: You supposedly rented a "cargo van" for me (as I had requested), but Budget only had a passenger van available for me, which I could not use. My suspicion is that this problem was Kayak's responsibility rather than Budget's. Budget, on the other hand, rented me a Toyota Sequoia, which was fine, except that the bill on arrival was almost $300 more than quoted, and this is presently in dispute.

BeCareful when you give creadit card online
Cons: I booked a Chevrolet SUV with Thrifty via Kayak for one day. I got a charge from Hertz Rental, the amount is $45, not the same as the car I booked. Someone is stealing my identity. It's not a large amount but I feel unsecure when using Kayak.com. There is no protection, so be careful when you use this site. I will never use Kayak.com again. Bad experience!!!!

Pros: Eveyrthing was very good, convenient and the car is was very new and good to drive.
Cons: Unfortunately there was an international couple in front of me struggling with the language and the complexities of insurance coverage, and they discussed every fine point for minute on end. There were no other agents available so it was a half hour wait before I got my car (in about 5 min). I think one agent is just not enough, it was not her fault, and also the couple were being justifiably cautious. Please make sure there is backup

One unhelpful clerk
Pros: A second clerk (woman) was helpful with getting directions.
Cons: My first clerk (man) was unhelpful with getting directions.
Cons: The agent called ~18 hours in advance to confirm the rental and I confirmed everything. There was no mention of their right to cancel the reservation.
The day after when I come to pick up the car at 2:45 (~2 hours later than when I filled in Kayak), they told me that I was late and they canceled my reservation. If I want the same car, I have to pay ~$30 more a day. I didn't agree so I also lost my insurance paid to the car.
This is the worst car rental experience I've ever seen. Please stay away from this company.

Pros: The people at Ace who work there where very friendly and helpful, there was not a lot of wait time and they made it very easy to with all the paper. The price for the rental was cheaper then all the other places. Trust me I looked around. The return was just as smooth and easy as getting the car.I would rent from them again. Good bargain for sure.
Cons: There are two things I didn't like about ACE. However, these are strictly cosmetic. The first was the pick up, they come pick you up in a rather old looking van that should be traded in for somethin newer, the second is the place looks a bit on the shabby side and in a bad neighborhood. I will say I had no trouble coming or going from that place and I didn't feel my spidey Senses tingle. The shuttle van driver was curious, friendly and other then riding in an old van all was good.

- Car quality - the cars are very basic model with lacking any new features (like USB ports, bluetooth connections, leather seats etc).
Pros: Firefly is a subsidiary of Hertz. Less glitz & convenience, but cheaper prices. The car was clean & comfortable, just what we needed for a week in the wine country.
Cons: Poor signage and slow customer service on pickup. Drop off was much more efficient.

Pros: Seriously, the customer service at San Jose Airport for the Firefly rental car service was super friendly from the check-in lady to the people we dropped the car off with. The car itself was in excellent condition. The check in process was very easy and quick and it was simple enough to find the car in that vast garage. I would definitely rent from them again! The car itself was a pretty ugly diarrhea gold color that made us giggle and we thoroughly enjoyed it as it was always easy to find.

Pros: The service person helping when I dropped off my car was friendly, courteous, and professional.
Cons: I felt pressured when I picked up the car to buy gas and get rental insurance when I have rental coverage with my personal car insurance. Dropping off the car was strange and needed more signs to provide directions to where the car goes as the garage at San Jose did not make it clear where to drive the car to when returning the car.
Cons: Price ended up being more than double the quoted rate, was given a hatchback after specifically requesting a car with a trunk, then when I came back to the office to get the car I actually wanted, the computer system crashed. I left without renting a vehicle.

Had to Exchange the Car
Pros: The first car we rented suddenly had a part fall half off inside the wheel well. When we returned it, we were offered a car where the glove compartment wouldn't stay closed. The third car was fine, and they gave me a price break for my efforts, but the maintenance issues remain a concern.
