Pickup was a little disorganized and confusing but the agents were all polite. Otherwise it was a great experience.
I prepaid for this rental through Kayak and have the paperwork to prove that. After turning in the car, I was charged $861.92 for some unknown reason. I called Avis on 4/14/26 to dispute the charge. The customer service person I spoke with said they couldn't see any reason why I was charged that amount and submitted a request for refund of $861.92. They said the credit would post in 3-5 business days. I called Avis again today to follow up on this and the customer service person informed me that the refund request had been declined. He also stated that he could see no reason why I was charged this amount. He then resubmitted the refund request which he said would take 5-7 business days to process. I am skeptical at this point that the refund will be approved. This is the first time that I've used Kayak to book a car rental and the ONLY time I've had an issue like this come up. I have NEVER had an issue booking through Costco or directly with Avis. Kayak's prices may be attractive but it's not worth the problems booking this rental through you has caused me on the back end. I will advise my friends and family to avoid using Kayak because of this.

Terrible experience all around. System wide outage caused massive delays. Employees don’t have a clue what they were doing. After 45 minutes of being patient, with my wife and 2 daughters (3 & 6) waiting way past their bedtimes, I asked one of the 3 Avis employees trying to figure out how to process my rental why was going on. The employee I asked acted incensed that I asked him that. I pointed out that I’ve been there for 45 minutes and several other people had gotten cars in front of me and behind me and he again acted like I was in the wrong for questioning him. Tempers flared after that, and I took my ID and card back and left Avis. I was still charged by Avis, and am working on a refund. I ended having to rent a car from Sixt for a much higher price. They however had me in a car in 10 minutes. I’ll never rent from Avis again.

On your website, it lists manager special at a certain price. Then it lists manager special electric for a different price. I chose the manager special since I did not want an electric car. When I got to Payless, they told me I had to take an electric car. Which did not work for where I was going. They charged me another $30 a day in order to upgrade for the manager special to a gas card. It would have been cheaper for me to rent direct from anybody else in this situation.

The rental is off-site. The counter guy is a scammer and adds I surnacewhen you said no. The add on fees AFTER booking Throhgh here was an additional $287 for three days of renting.

We liked everything until the return of the car. There was very bad signs indicating where to park. I parked in a parking spot and a lady came over to us and was screaming at us that we can't park there. How were we to know?

NuCar was a good experience - competitive pricing and they had the car ready when we arrived. There is a 2-shuttle system to get there and drop-off, which takes time. You need to shuttle from the airport to the rental car area, and then walk to a different meeting point to shuttle to NuCar. The NuCar shuttle runs every 10-15 min, and there may be a line where you can’t get on the first shuttle. They were a little aggressive at trying to upsell insurance and fuel packages. This is typical for the discount places, so not unexpected. Drop off was easy - zero complaints there. Would use again despite the hassle of the second shuttle.
Terrible. We had to get a different car and wasted half a day of our vacation picking up a new one and they sent us to the wrong location initially.

The pickup experience was excruciating. There was a huge line that snaked back and forth at the Phoenix Rental Car Center. Large signs said you could skip the line by following a few steps on your phone. Nope! I completed all the steps and it even said “Success! proceed to the main rental counter.” What?? So it saved me a few minutes once I finally reached the counter. But I was in that line for longer than an hour. The guy behind me was livid and was barely holding it together. Fix your damn “skip the line” system!! Actually, I vowed to never again rent from Dollar or Thrifty, no matter how cheap. The lines at almost all the other rental car counters were much shorter, and life is short, and time is precious. Stupid to save $20 and have to have such a dismal experience. One positive. The rental car agent was great, and didn’t try to upsell.

Absolutely terrible! Got to the rental center and the dollar check in line had 40-45 people ahead of us with 3 check in people. We waited for 10!mins and when the line didn’t even move we walked away and never rented the car. It would have taken us about 1.5 hrs to get to the front of the line. Car was pre paid and non refundable so lost the money on the car. Every other car rental company had 2-5 people in the line.

Agent didn’t speak English very well, she put insurance coverage on when I declined it.
The vehicle I ended up choosing was misaligned. it pulled to the left even at 5-10 mph with the wheel straight. this should be very easy to notice if anyone does any type of testing or inspection of the vehicle. I originally chose the Premium vehicle category, but there was nothing available that fits this description. I was offered a Camry, but there’s no reason to pay extra for the Premium if i’m going to just get a regular mid or full size sedan. so it would have been a waste. To get closer to my money’s worth, and not waste the money I paid for Premium instead of mid-size or full-size sedan. I just upgraded to Luxury, since otherwise it’s like I paid extra for no reason to have paid for Premium but received a regular sedan. When I upgraded to Luxuy it was very expensive, around $40 extra per day for 6 days. The vehicle I received has lots of scuffs on the back, some on the side, and I later realized the alignment was quite off. It pulls to the left, this car may even be unsafe to drive if that isn’t fixed. The associate I had around 4:30-5:30AM on April 4th was very helpful, I can reccomend and speak highly of her assistance. I believe her name was Ava or Eva.

The people were friendly and super helpful. The van was great. It had a bad smell with the air conditioning and they addressed it immediately.
The hood of the car was not fully closed. The safety latch was engaged but it was bouncing up and down on the highway until I stopped to fully close it.

The problem is that Europcar has no counter in PHX airport and I had to go through FOX, it was a nightmare until I realize it was through them , after that , very good experience , it needs to be very clear when situations like this happen , specially since they do not have presence at the airport

When I arrived to pick up the car nobody was there to explain where it was. Upon receiving the car there was a crack in the windshield and a missing Nissan logo on the front of the car. When returning the car I gassed it less than a mile away (completely full). Got a message saying the car was short 3 gallons and I would be charged the refueling which was a scam

I booked full size SUV- picture showed Toyota RAV4 or similar. I received Honda hhrv which is a super small SUV. When we pulled next to Toyota rav4 it was half the size. And the Honda they brought to us was super dirty inside and out. On the advertisement, it says they only provide clean/washed car. That’s not true. The car seemed like it just got back from off-roading. Return was simple. But there is still hold on my credit card after a week. The only good thing about this car rental - was the employee who checked us in. He was kind. And I bet he felt really badly after he brought the dirtiest car on the lot, I tipped him.
Jay had great customer service! Great deal and value! I will definitely recommend and return.

The pickup experience was AWFUL! We had to ride a shuttle from the car rental location to a separate location a couple miles away, then wait in line for nearly 45 minutes to get the vehicle. I was pleased with the car itself though. After dropping the car off the shuttle back was running so slow and infrequently I had to Uber to the airport to avoid missing my flight.
I reserved a car for 4 days with a 300 mile per day mileage allowance on the Kayak site, through Expedia. After returning the car I was informed that there was a 500 mile fixed limit and charged an additional $280 for additional mileage. What sort of a rental car company does this these days. Beware.
The pickup was not at the airport which was not made clear at time of booking. It’s 5 miles from the airport!

Terrible experience. No one in the rental car office picked up their phone. Waited forever for the shuttle and once it arrived we were advised by the driver to come back tomorrow since the office was closed. We were left stranded at the airport with no car. Personnel at the airport claim they get tons of complaints about Easirent. ZERO rating! Any charges will be disputed! I’m not sure I’d use kayak again.
This location is not in the PHX airport car rental location. When I discovered this, I asked if their location was staffed by a human, since their web-based tool to pre-check in was a terrible tool. They said it was staffed. Once I got there, the human had nothing to do with the car rental business - they were a parking lot attendant. This business also asked for proof of car insurance. I have never been asked for that and that is not always carried on a person and a person doesn't always have their insurance login to retrieve it. Further, the AI assistant or "text human" was not helpful to resolve these issues, lied about the staffing of the check-in location and was terrible to deal with. I'm surprised kayak would even put this company on your platform. This experience will drive me towards booking directly with a car rental company - I can't trust your platform to vet your vendors for a reasonable customer experience.
