The BEST WESTERN Ivy Hill Hotel is situated on a nine acre site in the village of Margaretting near Chelmsford. Whatever your excuse for visiting (as if you needed one!), we'll be more than happy to host you! Nestled in the Essex countryside but just moments from the A12 between Chelmsford and Brentwood, we offer more convenience than most, especially if you're taking residence in our function rooms, which can cater for parties of any size between 2 and 200 guests. Everyone's invited, so be our guest! Enjoy your stay.
The room was a generous size, well-appointed and with a very pleasant outlook. The food was well cooked, and service was friendly and attentive. Reception was welcoming and helpful. Price very reasonable.
The food was a little slow in arriving; but then it was explained that there was a function elsewhere in the hotel.
Dining room service good for breakfast. (did not do dinner)
Some of the carpets a bit tired. They also could do with cleaning - do we clean carpets in the uk or just vac them. Road noise could be a problems for some. Why are hotels obsessed by duvet on the bed - they are ridiculous and nearly always too hot - we have to request a change after 1 uncomfortable night. All hotels - back to sensible sheets and blanket soon!!! (I had asked for twin and we got double -they changed it - lack of attention to detail but important for us)
I liked the setting of the hotel. The breakfast was very good.
The stress caused by the problems surrounding our booking
Good meal after a long drive, waiter service excellent.
The toilet in my room did not work. I reported this in the morning. On checking out the desk staff did not ask me whether I was satisfied with my room and of course the answer would have been no!! Perhaps some form of compensation could have been offered as the room was not cheap.
pleasant convenient friendly atmosphere
Clean and well presented
Expensive, particularly the breakfast
Pleasant surroundings. Good room decor. Good breakfast.
No air conditioning in room. Had to ask for a fan as the one I was told was a fan, provided in the bottom of my wardrobe, just wanted to push out more heat. Slept with the fan going all night.
Checked in by internet which gave impression that I had paid. Later told I had not then moved to pontlands hotel becuae of building work Promised advice re taxi which has to chase arrived back in evening hotel locked up and lights turned out tried to check out in morning and no staff anywhere
Friendly staff, good food, spacious room, quiet, comfortable bed.
Dirty shower, shower control had orange coloured scum on it which I managed to get under my finger nails. Shower screen broken. Bedroom walls need cleaning & painting in parts. Lamp and t'v remote did not work.
Having the kettle and tea things in the room. Booked for convenience of location to party we were attending.
Was a bit tired. The window opener on the window I opened came away in my hand, the shower divider didn't stay on the edge of the bath, kept swinging out - wet floor caused husband to fall. No account of three of us in the room ref tea tray cups, shower bits, etc. Reception staff on checkout queried that we'd paid in cash on the day of arrival (we only stayed one night) which was embarrassing.
