Pros: We spent the first night of our honeymoon last week with Ladera and it was amazing. The views can't be beat. You can't go to St. Lucia and not experience the views from Ladera first hand.
Ladera was once part of Rabot Estate, one of Soufrire's oldest and most famous cocoa plantations. In 1982 it was transformed into the unique resort it is today. Taking full advantage of its natural surroundings, Ladera offers a unique design in guest accommodations. The 37 suites all have an "open wall" the west side of each unit is left open to expose the breathtaking view, and the orientation of the buildings maintains complete privacy. As one of the top St. Lucia resorts, the suites are constructed of tropical hardwoods, stone and tile, furnished with locally crafted wood furniture, fixtures and accessories. All units are decorated with local artwork and feature magnificent views of the Pitons and Caribbean Sea.

A poolside bar and a bar/lounge are other highlights, and rooms at this luxurious hotel offer up nice touches like jetted tubs, rainfall showerheads, and pillowtop beds with Egyptian cotton sheets.
Pros: Best shower ever! Great view from room. Infinity pool was amazing. Great friendly staff. Top notch food. They have 2 boats for guests.
Cons: WiFi reception wasn't very good in the Luxe rooms. They don't sell their own chocolate :(

Guests can visit the spa to indulge in massages, body scrubs, or facials, and Boucan serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are 2 bars/lounges and an outdoor pool, and rooms at this luxurious hotel get the details right with iPod docks and rainfall showerheads.

Secluded and with music provided by the forest's nocturnal tree-frog chorus, the romantic Anse Chastanet Resort in Soufrière, St. Lucia, is a popular Caribbean getaway for couples, a tranquil world at the end of a two-mile forest road. Perched on 600 acres of tropical foliage, the resort provides snorkeling and scuba diving within 100 yards of the beach, kayaking, jungle mountain biking and hiking, sunset cruises, deep-sea fishing, and tours of Soufrière's "drive-in" volcano.
Five minutes away, the resort's second beach fronts a 500-foot wide, two-mile deep canyon that once served as a 17th-century sugar and cocoa plantation. Here, 12 miles of mountain-biking and hiking trails snake through jungles laced with mangos, coconuts, bananas, and cocoa.
Guests of the Anse Chastanet Resort can relax at the Kai Belté Spa with shiatsu and hot-stone massages, warm oil and herbal wraps, and yoga. The resort's hillside Treehouse Restaurant features panoramic Caribbean views, candlelit ambience and "treetop" seating, and serves steamed mahi mahi, rack of lamb, pan-seared kingfish, and chicken breasts stuffed with goat cheese. The open-air, beachfront Trou au Diable specializes in salads, sandwiches, rotis, and Italian and Creole foods. Guests can unwind with a drink at the resort's 2 bars/lounges.
Secluded among tropical foliage on the beach or in the hills, the resort's 49 guestrooms offer terra cotta tile or hardwood floors, and furniture made from local mahogany, teak, breadfruit, greenheart and purpleheart woods, and West Indian madras cloth. Accommodations also include locally made straw rugs, pottery, carved-wood decorations and art, and yellow ceiling bulbs that cast soft light from underneath wicker shades.
Ceiling fans and windows cool the Anse Chastanet Resort guestrooms. Free WiFi is available, but televisions, radios, clocks, and telephones are confined to the main building, so guests can relax without modern intrusions.
If you have walking problems ask for a cottage lower down as some are quite a walk uphill. Also as it's quite remote a hire car is useful as the taxi's are expensive.
Pros: I loved the serenity of the place, all the cottages spaced out with many being totally secluded. The grounds were lovely to wander around especially the hike up to the top of the plantation with the view of the pitons. The hospitality of the owners.
Cons: The cottage we stayed in could have had a few more utensils etc but as we weren't there to self cater it didn't really matter.
Pros: Saint Lucian experience- and Eco sustainable environment
Cons: Microwave did not work and kitchen glasses, dishes, and coffee maker not clean. Mold found in coffee filter.
Discover Fond Doux Plantation & Resort, a 19th century eco-friendly colonial plantation nestled in the heart of Soufriere, St Lucia. The plantation resort is situated amidst a 250 year-old working plantation, featuring an assortment of fifteen uniquely crafted cottages, two onsite restaurants, spa, boutique, historical cocoa drying trays and a collage of outdoor swimming pools. We are conveniently located just minutes away from the island’s main attractions: The Sulphur Springs - the Caribbean’s only “drive-in volcano”, The Pitons and the best diving sites on island all within the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Much of the land on the estate is utilized to grow fruits, flowers and vegetables – all of which are used in Fond Doux Plantation & Resort’s two restaurants. These include star apples, pawpaws, zabòka avocados, mangoes, grapefruit, bananas, love apples, breadfruit, coconuts, cinnamon, sour-sop, golden apple, sugar cane, limes, tangerine, oranges, apricots, cherries, plums, wax apples and gwiyav guava – not to mention our famous cocoa. The property is totally committed to self-sufficiency and invites you to get involved.
All of our cottages have been built and designed with minimum impact in mind. No machinery was used when constructing these 15 stunning residences – all excavation was performed with loads of elbow grease and shovels only. Adding to the water and power conservation, it is little wonder that England’s Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla visited the estate in 2008, with the environment so close to the Prince’s heart.
Fond Doux Plantation & Resort is one of the only resorts in St. Lucia to have been certified both as an organic plantation and as a member of Green Globe.
Pros: Fantastic staff. Very attentive. Everyone we encounter was friendly and helpful. The meals were very good. The resort is about five minutes from the airport and the hotel gave several members of our group complimentary late checkout times so that we could enjoy ourselves more on our final day. Excellent guest services to help set up excursions or to assist you in planning activities. Excellent pools and bars. Lots of evening activities.
Cons: The resort is on the Atlantic side of the island do the beach isn't what you normally think of on a Caribbean island. I was told the better beaches are on the opposite side of the island where the majority of resorts are located. So if you are looking to lay on a sandy beach I would not recommend this resort. But there are nice loungers looking at over the ocean with a nice breeze. And the view over the water is beautiful with a couple hilly islands.
Pros: True all inclusive with free activities including snorkeling, kayaking, and paddle-boarding
Food was excellent and varied
weather was perfect
staff was exemplary
Cons: Feeling of being trapped at the resort
Few shopping opportunities
Very expensive excursion opportunities and few options to go outiside of resort sponsored excursions

The food was great. Didn't make up for the awful room, though.
Pros: The view. Amazing.
Cons: The slum-lord type room. Peeling plaster, bathroom behind a curtain (not a door), bare light bulbs, door won't open more than a foot, no actual sheets on the bed, very noisy. Had to leave after one night. Don't understand the other favorable reviews.

Pros: The Staff was phenomenal when it came to helping out with whatever we needed. Starting from extra towels to guiding with getting to and from the local tourism spots, they helped us with everything.
Cons: I didn't like that hotel didn't have any kitchen accessible to the guests, given the setup of the hotel, having access to a common cooking area would be an perk.
Pros: The staff are very helpful; the rooms are large and very clean; the ac worked well which was key at this point of my trip; the location was in central Soufriere. I had an overnight on St. Lucia and needed to go from one airport to the other. This was a beautiful part of the island.
Cons: The location means you will be followed by panhandlers, sometime for blocks. The hotel is located on the third floor of a building requiring you to climb stairs to get to the lobby. If you've a lot of luggage this may be difficult. The rooms are a bit rough around the edges but generally ok. The road to get to Soufriere is winding and slow. It was an 1 1/2 hours from the airport in the north and about 1 hour to the airport in the south. The total taxi charge for the two rides was $180 (a bit higher than suggested in guide books).

Fortville Inn is just 0.5 mi (0.9 km) from the airport and offers a shuttle (available 24 hours) for USD 10 per vehicle roundtrip. Guests looking for a bite to eat can check out Fortville, which serves international cuisine.
Cons: Room was filthy and in complete disrepair. AC did not work at all. Hot water not working. Shower filled with what appeared to be black mold. Staff entirely unresponsive, just didn't care at all. Screens had many holes so insects continually in the room. Amazingly this was all for their higher category room. Scary to think what the other rooms must be like. We never write reviews, but felt obligated to warn people about this place -- worst hotel we've stayed at anywhere and we travel very frequently and expected nothing more than a reasonably clean room, working AC and a somewhat friendly staff. Positive reviews are why we tried this hotel, and we are beyond puzzled as to how anyone would give them more than one star.
