The building had lots of great woodwork, the meals were good (breakfast was a bit limited and felt a little disorganized), there is a really nice lounge area, the WIFI is really fast.
Beer choices were pilsner and pilsner. Not much choice for meals, but the food was good. Building is mostly wood and un-carpeted. People walking around and staff setting up for breakfast are loud.
Comfortable longe area with lots of natural light. Cozy on site restaurant.
Courtyard style rooms don’t offer a lot of privacy.
All facilities were great. Good rooms and great showers. Comfy lounge for residents.
After the other hostels on the Quilotoa Loop this just seemed a bit stingy with the food. Only 2 courses at dinner and having to pay extra for coffee or even hot water seems a bit mean.
Nice building with good potential
Unfriendly greeting. Lady on front desk didn’t check my booking from 4 hours earlier, and when I arrived at 7.15pm I was told (after I had paid) there was no inclusive dinner for me. No apologies, she acted like it was my fault. So while everyone else ate a nice meal around me I had a single slice of gross luncheon meat on cheap bread for dinner with no discounted price on my room. She was very unfriendly when I asked for the upstairs wifi, and when I requested soap that I didn’t have for my room. A shame because it seemed like a nice place to stay but for the price that kind of service is a let down. I would stay at one of the many other places in town instead.
I decided to pay a little more for a private room and I wasn't disappointed. The room was lovely and the ensuite very comfortable. Without the fire lit it was pretty cold, but that was to be expected. The staff got a little frustrated when my fire had to be relit twice, but otherwise they were very sweet. The lady on the front desk was especially nice, answering my numerous questions about the place and the area. They also accommodated my food needs with something that wasn't the set menu for the day. Wifi was good in all areas, although it weirdly disappeared in my room overnight, but that wasn't a huge issue. Shower was strong and hot. And the location is awesome for the crater lake as it is literally right opposite, though to be fair the village is tiny, so all the hostels are only a few minutes walk away. I didn't personally eat the breakfast, but the food on offer was really good.
I did feel a bit self conscious having to ask for the fire to be lit and then asking twice more when it failed to stay lit, and as mentioned in a previous review, it is difficult to use the communal areas as they are cold, which was a shame as they are nicely arranged and decorated.
