Baladin Zanzibar Beach Hotel - Pingwe - Building
1
9.6 Excellent (385 reviews)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing stay! Somehow wild but very clean, modern and beautiful. Its very relaxing and peaceful resort with only 12 accommodations. An oasis of relaxation with multiple features for sunbathing surrounded by tropical landscape. The staff was incredibly friendly. The location is fantastic if you are looking for something more quiet, not so busy or windy as other beaches in Zanzibar. The beach is almost perfect, only the tides and sea hedgehogs could mess your swiming in the ocean, but the host provides you swimming shoes against sea hedgehogs on request. Just a few hundred meters walking distance from the famous landmark "The Rock" (by the way, the restaurant hosted on the rock does not stand up to the claims of reputation: not a great food, more Italian style than local, and very expensive for Zanzibar). Pingwe beach offers several other alternatives for great food and activities. Locals and beach boys are friendly and not aggressive like other parts.
Cons: There are a few things about I would say negatives or rather would be suggestions for improvement, but overall I could not give feedback with a score too low under 10. First, the arranged transfer from the airport: the driver arrived a little late and our flight landed earlier and we had to wait outside the airport for about 20 minutes being harassed by other taxis. (a professional transfer follows "flightradar" or other applications if you arrive sooner or later). Also the car and the driver wasn't very pleasant according with the baladin brand. For return we chose a local driver with a better car well-maintained and cleaner, with $ 10 cheaper. WiFi was little bit weak but maybe the local internet is the reason. Unfortunately, the pool bar was out of use, you have to order only to the main restaurant, and the only beer available was the house-beer Baladin which is an italian craft beer. It was good, but not necessarily my taste. I would have preferred to diversify the menu with a few local and international selections. Yoga classes were also unavailable, instead, I would recommend to add some gym equipment. I would recommend to the hosts to add mosquito lamps or torches in the open-air bathrooms for the evenings. by the way, you need to know the the bungalows do not have air conditioning, but for us, in mid-June it was not necessary.

Pros: Loved the furnishings around the resort and the bungalows were well thought out, comfortable and classy. The Staff were all amazing so friendly and thoughtful, nothing was too much bother to them.
Cons: Absolutely nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is well located on the Eastern side of Zanzibar island, with great snorkeling and diving spots close by. The snorkeling was the best that I have ever done - never seen that many fish in the waters. The food is also phenomenal. We ate every one of our meals there. All of the staff is super helpful and made the whole experience seamless, including arranging for a taxi from and to the airport.

Pros: Tastefully decorated. INCREDIBLE breakfast. Super friendly staff. Great massage. Reasonable prices. Very private beach. Excellent pool. Plenty of beach front lounge options! Felt incredibly welcomed
Cons: Nothing. Superb stay.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff on arrival were very welcoming and during our stay Lisa and Noah kept ensuring we were okay with everything and asked us if we needed advice about where to go etc. The pool was of a good size and cleaned daily and the rooms were cleaned twice a day with a special bug spray used in the evening so we barely got bitten by mosquitos which was a plus! Bungalow rooms were of a good size too. The hotel has a limited number of rooms which for us was ideal as there were less guests at a time so felt more private for a resort. The view of the beach was beautiful in the morning with the sunrise. Overall, the unique aspect of this stay is that the staff will really put there heart and soul into ensuring that the guests that stay here have a memorable time and they are very fast at responding to requests which you do not see often in other hotels and resorts.
Cons: The breakfast options are fine for the first couple days but because it is quite limited you do get kinda sick of having to eat the same breakfast everyday. The beach was not as nice as I was expecting as there is a lot of seaweed on the seashore which is actually seen in a lot of places across Zanzibar. Therefore, if you are the sort of person that has to have the perfect beach then maybe this is not the place for you. But the beach just 10 mins drive away at Michamvi beach is actually stunning (personally even better than Nungwi as it is less crowded and it has the white sand and bright blue waters you expect to see in Zanzibar). Location can be looked at as either good or bad. Good for some as it is a quiet area to stay in so it is very peaceful during the day or to some it might be bad as it is not in a busy area where there are restaurants and shops and water activities etc. that you would expect at Kendwa beach/Nungwi beach.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location it excellent, right ON the beach. It s a family run business, with a touch of privacy. Extremelly clean(twice a day), breakfast is fresh, fruit/juice to enjoy by the pool, kitchen is a mix of traditional and international, sunbeds and wiews incredible, better than the picture. The owner is a man of Honour- V, we appreciate your involvement. PS: always put your belongings in the safe box. From arrival on day 1!
Cons: The bungalow was a bit dark due to the local design.
7.5 Good
Pros: Amazing staff, Noah was always friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and just like the photos.
Cons: Our sea view room did not have a 100% sea view so the hotel changed us to another room (villa 5) but it was still partially covered by a roof. I was quite disappointed about this.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location! It is right on the beach very quiet part of the island! We enjoyed our time and we can’t thank the staff enough for being so wonderful and hospitable! We had to leave early in the morning for a flight Lisa woke up at 4 am to make sure we are up and brought delicious breakfast with everything we asked for especially for us! She and the wonderful crew had made the vacation feel like home. Highly recommended!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I recommend is a great place. The atmosphere of this place is amazing. We felt at home there, very cozy and relaxing place. Very exquisite dishes served by great waiters. The beach at low tide is wide and beautiful. Very safe place, during the night very well guarded by protection. The beach bungalow is an amazing place with a beautiful view. Apartment Suite spacious and huge with a beautiful view of the sea and the pool. We'll be back for sure. We took our best memories from there.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff is really kind, food was good in comparison to the area.
Cons: Wifi can be faster but i guess it is limitations related to the Island. Showers were not hot enough during the night, but were enough.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The best! Fresh fruit and fresh juice, new great taste every day.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous breakfast, with included special orders for your eggs and coffee.
Cons: Internet connection was well below 1 mbit at all times, so no streaming possible. But enough to lookup on google. We actually found it useful to be off-line, as it brought us more together over talks and games.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Everything was absolutely amazing ! From the warm welcome at the very beginning of our stay, to the beautiful attentions for our honey moon! It was absolutely incredible and I highly recommend this hotel.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Best thing about this place was the see view from your room in the morning, this was unbeatable!
Cons: The personnel is quite friendly, but we still felt a bit awkward that we asked couple of times for our room key and only when insisting, we found out that there is no key for us at all, that the previous guest took it. On the question don't you have like a spare key, they answered that this was also taken some time ago by another guest. We understand that this situations can happen, but that is what the double key is for: when you lose one, you make another one on the spot, because otherwise you'll eventually end up losing both of your keys :) Otherwise, it's a nice place for couple of days.

Pros: Wonderful, wonderful place, amazing staff, great food, the perfect place to relax and unwind... The Rock is a 10 minute walk away and a must visit for lunch... I cannot recommend this wonderful Hotel enough
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The peace and quiet of the Hotel and Beach was exactly what we were hoping for. The Staff, from Management down to the guys keeping the gardens neat and tidy, were quite honestly fantastic. I am not ashamed to admit that we both shed a tear on our departure. I really cannot speak highly enough of our whole experience. Thinking about going?, just book it, you will not be disappointed.
Cons: Two weeks was not long enough.....
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is really amazing! So beautiful, and peaceful! The staff is very polite and kind! They think in every detail to make your stay special!!I I had a great experience at Matlai! The best boutique hotel I had stayed!!!! I had just come back, and I already miss it!
Cons: The food is a bit spicy. For me, It was ok! I like food full of spices, but my husband and the couple that traveled with us had found it too spicy and hot!! The breakfast juice was made of fruits we are not used to drink! I would like a to had a passionfruit juice, pineapple juice! Something more commun... however, these were little details, the whole trip was incredible!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing and the facilities are immaculately maintained. The decor looks antique and rustic giving it a unique old school flavor. The staff are very attentive and friendly, catering to all our needs.
Cons: Nothing to complain about
8.8 Excellent

Pros: Excellent staff and amazing setting. It’s a little slice of secluded paradise. The food is excellent. The coconut and crab soup and the grilled lobster were the best. Very good breakfast.
Cons: Nothing it’s perfect.

Pros: Great location mid way down the beach, felt secluded in an amazing tropical garden on the beach with incredible sunrise beach view. Their team was amazing from the beach security guard to the butler. Everyone was always helpful and eager to get whatever we needed. The mobile phone they gave us was great to call the butler to order meals or drinks even when away from the resort. Great small boutique style resort with impeccable service perfect for romantic couple or group. Highly recommend

Pros: A lot of privacy for customers.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The resort is amazing and privacy is great
Cons: Far from everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Your free breakfast comes anywhere you want it to be served terrace beach pool room amazing
Cons: The network goes up and down
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We pretty much liked everything about this place. The room was spacious and the privet pool is such a treat. Above all I think the service and understanding of details and guest privacy is phenomenal here. And the food here is really much better than anything you'll find on the Island.
Cons: Yes, the location on this side of the island does not come with the most amazing beach, as the west is a little more rocky, but the hotel makes up for it with its magical immersion into the jungle.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an amazing stay at Zanzi Resort. The resort was beautiful. The facilities were great and the staff were all very polite, helpful and made our stay very comfortable.
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: No beach at all The behavior of the manager when we arrived Pool was not clean
10.0 Excellent
Pros: have been to a lot of places worldwide but this place was really different, they take care of every tinny details, privacy is an art they are good about, for people who are relaxing with their beloved ones and honey mooners this is an ideal place, I stayed 5 days in Ocean access villa with private pool and almost private beach, I never dream of such wonderful atmosphere, you feel like this resort was designed by an artist not by an architect, from furniture to decoration to landscape, every corner in the resort was a piece of nice African art, food quality and staff service quality are only to be described as amazing, Staff is available whenever you need them without invoking your privacy, I have travelled to a lot of luxury hotels and resorts worldwide, I am not exaggerating if I said this the best one I have been to, I will certainly plan to visit again for longer period Thanks for manager Mr./ kasper, to chief Mohamed, to Khamis and other staff members for all the care and enthusiasm showed during my stay.
Cons: Really nothing was wrong
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Food, staff and service were amazing! :)
Cons: They need to have a proper Gym, there was no workout machines or a treadmill!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All the people were amazing, always friendly and supportive. And the villas are lovely. A whole house including a small pool for your own. Privacy at its best.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was some of the best food I have eaten any where. Staff were amazing, so genuine and friendly. Location was good, on a quiet side of the island. The pier was amazing! So much wow factor! Over all, the facilities and the tranquility was superb.
Cons: Bed was average Wifi poor
Meliá Zanzibar - Zanzibar - Building
5
9.2 Excellent (799 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Melia Zanzibar in Kiwengwa, you'll be on the beach, within a 5-minute drive of Mapenzi Beach and Kiwengwa Beach. Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The Melia Zanzibar property is beautiful! The landscaping and greenery is wonderful. The beach, although a 5 minute buggy ride away, is very unique - at low tide the sand is really fine, nothing we had seen before. The staff are incredibly friendly, warm and ready to engage with you in your quest to learn more about the island. The scuba team at the PADI center were really professional and was truly a highlight of the trip. The dives were great - even ending our trip with dolphin sighting! The f&b manager personally made sure we were happy with the service at every meal after raising a concern on day one. The rooms are sprayed and mosquito nets arranged every night at turn-down service.
Cons: The rooms would be perfect if updated slightly. Additionally, the quality and variety of food did not match that of a 5 star hotel, particularly at Gabi beach and the pool restaurants.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: First of all the area in the resort is spectacular, a jungle dream just gorgeous with so many trees and greenery it’s so calming to just walk around. The staff are very friendly but people from Zanzibar are generally extremely nice. They have a good selection of food and so many places to relax, if you want to relax this is the place for you! If you want to escape your city life and busy work schedule, this is the place for you! I recommend staying in either the beach bungalow or the romantic pavilion because the beach view is out of this world!!!
Cons: I can’t honestly say there was one thing I didn’t like but there were a few minor problems which a five star hotel shouldn’t have. Once we received a bottle of water and the water smelt bad, but it was one water bottle out of so many and the others were fine, we informed the reception so hopefully they check the waters. The first day housekeeping, didn’t refill our coffee and put extra toilet rolls so we had to ask for it but it seemed that housekeeping had ran out while making rounds but they should still make sure to bring some later, we had to call for it ourselves. When they brought it, it was amazing they got us a lot so they made up for it. Sometimes walking back at night there wasn’t enough light, I suggest that the property adds more solar light. If you are looking for a place with a good beach, gabi beach which is where Melia is, is not the best beach to swim because even in high tide there are stones. However still nice and you can chill by the beach during low tide. If you want to swim maybe other areas of the island would be better like a little north. Overall i can’t say it was bad because these minor points you forget when you see the beauty of the place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, Excellent service, The executive staff is amazing and always accessible to hotel guests, Delicious and varied food, The place is maintained to a high standard
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Melia Zanzibar property is beautiful. The landscape and greenery are amazing. The beach, although a 10-15 minute walk away (regular buggies are available), is quite unique - at low tide the sand is muddy and fine, nothing we had seen before. Staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and happy to engage with you in your quest to learn more about the island. The PADI center at the hotel was the highlight of our trip, the team there is incredibly professional and the dives were wonderful - even ended with dolphin sightings! Housekeeping comes in every night to spray your room and arrange the mosquito net at turn-down service.
Cons: The rooms could use a little more updating given the price point. The quality and variety of food does not match a 5 star hotel, particularly at Gabi beach and the pool restaurant.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great peaceful atmosphere for relaxation, very helpful staff, delicious restaurants. many things to do.
Cons: Nothing in particular. However, they could have sealed the bungalow better so the insects does not come inside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is amazing. People working over there are so polite, such a lovely place.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff. The property grounds. The beach/pool. The food. The view. The spa and gym. Everything was wonderful and so lovely.
Cons: I expected the room to be cleaner in detail (bathroom). The “all inclusive” does not include ‘everything’ (a restaurant on the property is not included and not all items on every menu is included) so therefore it isn’t really all inclusive but still makes sense if you plan on being there all day.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great private beach!! Seafront bungalows are amazing Good cocktails(although a bit too small) Beautiful surroundings and gardens Great pool
Cons: We got a big discount when we booked through booking.com. I would not pay the normal rate for this hotel. All inclusive drink options are adequate, but the cocktails take so long to arrive when you order them and they are so small (think tiny 250/300ml glasses, single shot cocktails) Standard all inclusive only included dinner at the buffet, which was decent on some nights and poor on others. You can also just do tapas on the yeti, but the tapas menu doesn’t change at all...
7.5 Good
Pros: Food was perfect. Friendly waiters.
Cons: The room needs renovation, housekeeping poor, cleanlines as well.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Its Spanish hotel and they provide Paella Spanish rice food in the dinner buffet which is good, and the room is beautiful with very big bathroom. The Hotel environment is very beautiful and all is good.
Cons: What disappointed me was they did not have professional tennis player partner and have sent me a guy who does not know to play at all lol. The room smells a little bit humid...

With a stay at Pongwe Beach Hotel in Pongwe, you'll be on the beach, within a 15-minute drive of Kiwengwa Beach and Kiwengwa Pongwe Forest. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, laundry facilities, and a library. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location in very nice beach, tropical setting but quiet. Restaurant and bar well presented. Very efficient and friendly staff- always helpful and go the extra yard. Big rooms
Cons: Didn’t have air-conditioning but had over-head fan and other fans which is fine overnight.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: What a place! We stayed here for a couple of nights to finish off our honeymoon tour, and we were so glad we picked it. The location is stunning- the beach is basically private and is a little paradise, free of beach boys unlike the north beaches. The tidal shift is large, which means you can walk out really far in the shallow water and enjoy the views/look for crabs! Drinks including fresh coconuts served to your lounger if desired. The room was lovely - very clean and full with lovely little touches to welcome us. Decent shower, could have been a little more powerful but that's being picky, and a very comfortable bed. The food was delicious- lots of choice for breakfast and good coffee, tasty lunch options, and the three course dinners were fantastic. Delicious fresh fruit, pastries and coffee is also served every day around 3pm. We also had a dinner on the beach one night which felt really special, although we struggled to finish the sea food platter as it was enormous! All the staff were so kind and welcoming too, they really allowed us to make the most of our short time there. Overall would thoroughly recommend.
Cons: Nothing of note.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location: Beach beach in Zanzibar we saw and you really felt like it was private to the resort. Staff: were incredibly helpful. Coming from a non-tipping country, the tipping at the end of the trip process kept things simpler. Facilities: grounds, restaurant and pool were beautiful. Particularly liked the inclusion of a library and games to play. Food: was expensive but good.
Cons: Room: We booked the private pool bungalow with ocean views thinking it would be a lot more private then what it was given the price. Our bungalow shared an adjoining wall with other another bungalow and windows have no glass (mesh). It also was close to the next resort. So all sorts of sounds were making there way into our room at night. All the private pool bungalows have the public resort pool In between them and the beach views and it’s all open so there isn’t really anything private about it. If I had my time again I would book the other beach front bungalows that were less expensive without the private pool.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel. Potentially, the best place I have ever stayed and I travel often. The welcome from all the staff was wonderful and continued throughout the stay, from the waitresses taking drinks and food orders at the pool and beach, to the dinner waiters and bar staff. Shout out to the guys who carried our suitcases on their shoulders across the beach to our room as well. We stayed in both a garden view and beach front bungalow and both were incredible, great comfortable beds, and stunning views of the beach. The infinity pool was incredible and the beach was idyllic. The food was very good, and breakfast included had both a buffet and an a la carte menu. The food was fresh and tasty and very reasonably priced. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, it is in a more secluded quiet part of pongwe but you can organise excursions and taxis either yourself or through the hotel, there are also boat tours, but it was tranquil and paradise and I cannot wait to go back. The room also came with beach bags, towels and large rim hats, as well as robes. WiFi was good, there are also printing facilities, a computer and a library in reception. There was also fresh fruit free every afternoon, including coconuts, and free coffee and tea facilities in the restaurant all day.
Cons: This was a perfect place to stay, if I was nitpicking the only thing I missed in the room was a hairdryer, but not at all an issue.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The boutique style and privacy of this resort is a must for couples and families. Being a couple of male friends it provided a great chance to relax and unwind with a good book, burger and beer. Well appointed villas and a fabulous balance of staff to guest ratio
Cons: Second last day got extremely ill and lost a day an a half. Did not inform hotel until i was up and about.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is amazing, the most beautiful beach I have ever seen.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a phenomenal stay at Pongwe. The location and private beach is amazing, the food is incredible and the staff are world class. Absolutely no complaints and would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Zanzibar.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A fabulous boutique hotel with outstanding staff, good food and a stunning setting. At high tide it is impossible to walk far but unlike other nearby hotels there is at least a beach to get on and swimming is perfect. At low tide we were able to walk out to coral outcrops in the shallows which were like looking into an aquarium. There are no tea or coffee facilities in the rooms but early tea was delivered for us every morning and was available from the bar whenever we asked. We loved every moment and leaving at the end of our stay was not easy. Make sure to take advantage of supper on the beach, perfect!
Cons: Hard to find much not to like but maybe the pillows could be better! Paddle boards did not exist but it was the very end of the season so they had maybe been removed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms, location, staff, the beach, service
Cons: During hot summers you may want air conditioner. They don’t have. We were the in July and it was perfect temperate.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are all superstars, the beach is quiet which we loved. The management is very kind to extend our stay without charging us because checkout time is 10:30am and our flight is at night. My husband fell ill because of Malaria tablets and he can’t get out of the bed, they allowed us to stay until late afternoon without charging us. Really appreciate that!

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good hotel, near the beach, food is good and owner is nice
Cons: Road to the hotel is not good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place right on the beach and excellent for children. Very safe beach
Cons: Nothing really, we found the restaurant prices higher than in the village so walked to the village to eat most days. Beer a lot cheaper in the village
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I really like the location. Simba Beach is really located on the beach. :) The sea is reachable in few steps. The owners and staff are very nice and helpful people. I highly recommend this accommodation.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This wasn't a large tourism industry lodge processing sunbathers. This is a quaint place with character. I loved our simple accommodation facing the beach. You step out of your room and feel the sand between your toes. You hear the sounds of the waves and the wind. Face the sun. Beach furniture was locally made. The beach shower tied to a tree - brilliant! And the resort managers, Chantal & Marco, and their little family, and the staff, were all wonderful!
Cons: They want to organize all the taxi rides and excursions, with the guests paying the excursions through Simba lodge, however, I think that is because the differential between what they charge the tourist and what they pay the local drivers and guides for the service generates a handsome profit. However, for some observant visitors, that does not go unnoticed, and sometimes you feel a bit ripped off.

Pros: Very clean and nice room right on the beach. Friendly and helpful staff. You can watch amazing sunrise right out of the window. Awesome breakfast, big portions and tasty food in the restaurant- you eat right on the beach. Lovely dogs ) No strangers on the beach, no one disturbs you.
Cons: You can hear what’s going on in adjacent rooms. Sometimes lights go out. A bit pricey for Zanzibar - we stayed in other hotels like this much cheaper in Nungwi. But overall we liked the place!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great setting in the beach. Restaurant on site serves good food. Lovely room which is very quiet and dark at night. Relaxed, friendly staff providing good customer service.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owner, she help with all, what we need.
Cons: Little bit lazy staff, but its normal in Afrika. :-) still keep smiling and very kind.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: great location - staff, friendly and helpful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location directly on the beach is breathtaking. The room & bathroom were absolutely lovely. We felt so relaxed at this beautiful place. Chantal and Pablo were great hosts and very helpful. The included breakfast buffet was plenty and the selection was good. The Italian flair added up perfectly to this great location. I would definitely come back to this place if I get the chance to travel to Zanzibar again.
Cons: There honestly wasn't anything not to like during our stay!

Pros: The Villa, the dive center, the staff are amazing from all aspects. The whole hotel is great :)
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: Great beach.
Cons: Although staff are friendly some of them are not problem solving oriented. The Hakuna Matata mentality, although an interesting concept, might pose a problem if you need a quick assistance or somebody who can really help you solve your problem. We had to wait more than one hour to get our room keys and despite our patience some of the staff were not friendly and understanding when we said the waiting time was too much. Also, if you like good food, I would suggest you to book a room at Baraza Resort, owned by the same family who owns Breezes, we were not amazed by the food and wine options offered at Breezes.

Pros: Space,food and paradise feeling

Pros: The food was of an excellent quality. the hotel is beautiful and the staff were very helpful. on the day we left the hotel, we checked out at 4:45 AM and they have packed our breakfast for us for take away. The service genuinely could not have been any better. I will definitely go back to this hotel.
Cons: The breakfast was good, but could use a little more variety.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the décor of the resort which was superb. The staff were welcoming and professional, as well as keen to ensure that I enjoyed my stay. I also really liked the food which was delicious with a varied menu. The facilities were perfect as expected and I enjoyed relaxing at the clean white sand beach.
Cons: N/A
8.3 Excellent
Pros: + Beach area is nice, but some seaweed at low tide + Food was good, we had breakfast and dinner included; good cocktails, but we had to pay for all drinks at dinner + Nice facilities, good water sports center (reef walk organized by the hotel was amazing, highly recommend it!) + Very friendly and helpful staff; they organized a trip to Jozani Forest for us (very close and easy to visit) and also proactively approached us about organizing the transfer for our departure
Cons: - The resort and especially the rooms need a little refurbishment, as they look a bit old; felt a bit overpriced for how the rooms look - No mosquito nets at the doors. When we arrived our room and bathroom were full of mosquitoes and we had to spend at least 30 min killing them. Also because of lack of mosquito net, a lizard came into our room in the evening and although the hotel provided prompt support, the experience of evacuating it was not the most pleasant one. - Bar area a bit quiet and deserted in the evening, maybe because it's more of a family resort
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Set in a beautifully tended tropical garden on the edge of a picture-book beach, Breezes is definitely a place to pamper yourself. There's a wide variety of food and entertainment options available for any traveller. We stayed in four hotels in Zanzibar, and Breezes had the best and biggest pool. The food was a real treat!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is between 40 minutes to an hour from the international airport. You do have to arrange for a driver to pick you up and drive you to the resort. The fee should be $35 but most drivers will charge you $50 (which is a reap off I would say). I recommend the driver Asied +255655846082, he doesnt over charge tourist. And he is well known if you type driver in Zanzibar in google. We stayed two nights and three days at the resort and it was very relaxing. It was a half board meaning breakfast and dinner is included with the amount paid for the stay. From the time we arrived we were greeted with a refreshment and the hotel manager oriented us with the resorts facilities. We were lucky to be upgraded to Royal Palm cottage. The name Breezes really reflects the resort as the sea breeze is consistent and it was very relaxing lounging at the beach just watching the low tide to high tide. The food at the hotel is delicious. We had the chance to experience the gala night and the african night buffet. We were contented with the serving and the taste. We also tried the lunch in the grilled restaurant and the beef was well marinated and it was just the perfect lunch facing the beach waves, for a couple, it was quite romantic. The bed is made by the time you reach your room. It is also sprayed with anti mosquito but dont forget to bring your anti mosquito spray and always apply it as the mosquito bite in this country is quite itchy. I have also tried the spa and had whole body deep tissue massage. It was very relaxing and worth the money. Shout out to Lucas who always visits our table whenever we dine and make sure that we are satisfied with the food.
Cons: Nothing to do with the resort. Basically the non proper disposal of garbage in the whole zanzibar. The beach was full of dead algae and garbage which would disgust you to swim in the beach.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were super friendly
Cons: Bugs ! And mosquitos

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very good, even the ones that where learning because we came during the low season. The accommodation is amazing, everything very modern but with local decoration and very good taste. European power plugs, adapters on hand, good air conditioning, Bluetooth speaker if that is your thing and the areas are very big. The infinity pool is also about 25m long. Snorkeling equipment and kayak on hand if you want to use them.
Cons: The food at lunch is limited and very simple. The wifi doesn't reach the room (castaway) or is very week there, although when you have a signal it's good even for video. The beach is very nice for a long walk but keep in mind it's not very good for having a dive since it's full of rocks and the low tied makes the water go back hundreds of meters. You do have a very nice beach only 1km away turning left from the beach or right on the main road.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely fantastic experience! The place is really amazing with great staff, very good food and wine list (at reasonable prices), incredible views. Only 7 villas (15-20 people max) so they have time to take care about people, you really feel like home.
Cons: Maybe improving a bit the wifi connection

Pros: Wonderful infinity pool. Amazing villa. Excellent food, never eaten so well on vacation! The whole experience was amazing. From waking up with the sound of the garden, feeling almost in a jungle, to the breathtaking views of the ocean with the low tide. The whole resort is really beautiful, as the interior design. Beyond our expectations.
Cons: I would improve breakfast, even if it was also very good.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely everything! The fact that the manager was constantly around was fantastic. The staff, the accommodation, the facilities, the food, all exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is the most luxurious hotel in Zanzibar. It is very comfortable and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was very good, especially the breakfast which had a great variety. Choose this hotel if you want to visit Stone Town and Prison Island for a couple of days or if you are there for business.
Cons: The Spa could definitely be improved. The beach is an open beach so dont choose this hotel if you want a beach holiday.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was a fantastic spread! Many thanks to the general manager Nicholas for going out of his way to make us so comfortable. The staff was fabulous looking after us.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Terrific hotel with wonderful pool, views, right on the beach, good food selection and quality, superb staff. A bit pricey for being right in stone town (and therefore not on the nicest beach), but a great place to stay for those who don't have time to get out to the further parts of the island
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It’s historical significance, architecture, cleanliness, upkeep, good air conditioning and comfortable bed. The room was spacious. The staff were responsive to our needs and recommended things to do in the areas and arranged for it.
Cons: Electricity outages were common during our stay but only lasted a minute at a time. Our room did not have hot water.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: We were promised a bottle of sparkling wine in our room on arrival as it was our honeymoon but this was not provided. No big deal. The service at the bar / restaurant was worst I have ever experienced in a 5 star hotel. 15 minutes between providing the menu and taking our drinks order. Red wine was being kept on ice so it was served ice cold. Our food took ages to arrive and when it did arrive it did not come with any of our side orders. They had forgotten. Side orders were provided 20 minutes after we finished our main meal. The restaurant was not busy. That evening we rang reception to ask about the sparkling wine and were told they would call us back. No response. We inquired on our way out to dinner and were met with a shrug of the shoulders. When we returned from dinner we asked again and they said they would send it to our room immediately. Unless we inquired again, the hotel staff would have continued to simply ignore us. 1 hour later and it still had not arrived to room. We had to call reception again. The next day we asked for some change at the bar as we only had large notes. We were told no. We asked at the reception and again were told no. This is meant to be a $500/night 5 star hotel but yet they could not handle such a simple request. We had a drink that night in the bar and ordered two glasses of red wine. 6 times the waiter returned to our table to confirm the order. Eventually he advised that the wine was not available so we ordered different wine. Again the red wine was served ice cold despite the hotels website boasting of their prestigious sommeliers. The robes in the room were torn and there was blood on the moaquito net around the bed. Despite all of the above, it is a beautiful hotel in an excellent location with spectacular views. Sadly the service is poor or maybe we simply weren't important enough guests as staff seemed to swarm to certain guests. It may be the most expensive hotel in stone town but definitely not the best.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Thank you for the birthday surprise cake. It was much appreciated.
Cons: Bed making needs improvement. There needs to be two sheets (linen) a fitted and flat sheet
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, highly recommended if staying in stone town.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very good and took a lot of time to get to know us and make us feel comfortable, especially our 8 year old granddaughter. The room was very well appointed (junior suite) with loads of storage space. The food was a nice mix of local and international style and fairly priced. Fabulous sunsets over the sea from our balcony.
Cons: TV remote and bathroom scales needed batteries and obviously hadn’t been checked before new guests arrived. TV choice very limited. Small problem with lighting that wouldn’t switch off too, though this was rectified when reported. So just a few small niggly things that shouldn’t really happen at the price level.
9.3 Excellent
Cons: The price is high for the rooms
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful. We had an ocean view and kept the door open all night and it was simply stunning. We woke to the local women doing bootcamp on the beach in their hijabs and it was delightful. The management were exceptional and introduced themselves individually to us in case we needed anything. When we wanted to send some of our belongings back to Australia they were so helpful. We loved the pool area and after 2 weeks on safari, we adored this hotel. It gave us the refreshment we needed to travel on to Egypt.
Cons: The bar staff were so slow! Over an hour to get a Margherita at the pool is ridiculous and beers always arrived warm. However a local from Dar gave us a great tip - ask for an ice bucket with your beer and all will be fine.

Pros: Super Friendly staff - extreme chill out conditions. This resorts is at the end of the road thu , no traffic - no noise, Sea has a big tide so sea retracs rather far away from the beach - but thats nature. I had a lovely week.
Cons: Spending 1 week is ideal in this resort - nothing negative to mention - all fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is not just an hotel and for who can understands what's really behind it, it's pure PARADISE on earth ... The resort is first at human size, it's a boutique hotel with a few rooms and as much staff members as Guests... offering then an outstanding and clean service. The personnel is very friendly, people smille all the time ... most of the waiters work here for long some 6- 8 or even 10 years long .. The hotel is a kind of social project, each staff member counts, is important, and the direction carres about helping employees to catch up higher standards (trainees, english courses etc .. ). It also sustains the village´s local life by employing staff as much as they can (3 of 10) and giving them enough off days . It creates a network of villagers that build up their own business to supply foods and goods to the kitchen, and finally it supports local artists painters and village school. The direction and management have a vision of what they want to do in Zanzibar it is not disconnected from Africa and everything makes sense. It's a family hotel with human size where you feel at home, so not poshy and bling bling so people missing tv and minibar in the bedromm better book somewhere else... Finally, the location is just amazing it's the most beautifull beach that you can imagine .. white sand coconut, palmtrees .. it is a private beach where you will feel alone, protected from wind (that we have experienced in other beaches) and where local people come at sunset for football and relaxing. No one comes to try to sell you something and to harass you .. this because the hotel entertain an excellent relation with the village just behind... Every night the staff make huge efforts to install the dining place on a different location, (garden, pool with live quite music, or on the beach with fires and a great Swahili buffet. The bar is located at the beach and you can enjoy there the most amazing sunsets ever ...
Cons: Rien
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location for those who appreciate white sand, beautiful beach, awasome sunsets... it is a magical location. We stayed for 4 wonderful nights, each night different dinner theme... breakfast literally on the beach, ... the bar is wonderfuly setup to enjoy the Ocean's breeze and to contemplate the mesmirizing sunset while sipping on a magical cocktail or mocktail... Our room was sea facing and it was just great waking up to the amazing view of green ocean quiet wavelets... Very friendly management and staff.. In a nutshell, Michamvi Sunset Bay was an amazing experience!
Cons: Being a late riser I would have loved breakfast to be extended till 11:30 AM, but I understand the staff need to prepare the lunch menus etc.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and approachable. No request was too much. Everyone was always greeted with a friendly "jambo". The rooms were clean and have a view to the beach. There is no TV which really is not needed. Internet access is available on the whole property even on the beach. The food is excellent and the selection as well as location changes every day. Management asks every evening if there is anything else they can do to make the stay even more enjoyable.
Cons: We were lucky as the property was almost empty and as we booked outside the main season. It takes a while to get there from the airport but if you're looking for a quiet place, this is the place to be.
7.5 Good
Pros: good value for money, beautiful isolated beach
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is very beautiful The service, staff and management are amazing and very helpful people they’ll do their best to keep you happy!
Cons: Water in the washroom wasn’t always available not sure if that’s something with the hotel or the area in general
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff and whole feel of the hotel was brilliant right from the moment you arrived. Managers along with staff got to know us on first name terms and within just a few hours felt like home.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was amazing. The activities and tours organized by the management. All the guides were professional and the hotel staff were great, helpful with always a smile on their face. The local people around were friendly and polite. The hotel setting was paradise. Most of the guests in the 20 rooms were adults seeking relaxation and serenity. We were more than satisfied felt like guests rather than clients. It exceeded my expectations. Would strongly recommend it.

Pros: Much more than we expected! Wonderful architecture, tradicional and modern at the same time. Best location in Stone Town and a delicious breakfast. Staff extremely friendly!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kisiwa House is centrally located but tucked away in quiet street. We booked the suite and it was perfect. Very spacious, nice interior design, very clean. Staff is super friendly, fast working and discreet. Airconditioning was perfect and also much needed because Stonetown is so hot during noon. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Fast laundry service as well.
Cons: Towels could have been cleaner and less smelly and the shower in the suite needs to be fixed as after showering half of the bathroom floor is going to bet wet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s a beautiful old colonial house turned boutique hotel. If you like your hotels to have character and history, Kisiwa House is ideal. It’s beautifully charming and it’s located in the centre of stone town.

5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff were very friendly and eager to help. However we were given some incorrecr information which completely derailed our plans for the final night.
Cons: The room we stayed in was poorly located and didn't catch any breeze and so was stiflingly hot and the a/c was glacial. A ceiling fan might be a possible option to ensure the rooms can stay cool. The bathroom was ridiculously small and in need of some upgrades to the fittings, particularly the taps and the showerhead which were encrusted with lime from the water. The sad little shower curtain was not a great look either. The breakfast has been the worst breakfast I have had at a supposedly 5* hotel. Both the hot and cold options were severely limited and underwhelming. The food was not particularly tasty either.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Serena Hotel was our first stop in Zanzibar on what has turned out to be one of the best trip of our lives. We spent two nights in stone town at the Serena Hotel. The hotel is really quite a heritage in stone town. Fantastically located, just a short walk from the old city. An excellent breakfast spread and really charming room which still has lots of classic touches that make it quite authentic. Tip: book a sun down dinner at the Emerson Spice which is a 10 min walk from the hotel! And book in advance to get the roof top/terrace!
Cons: There was a wedding on our last night and whilst it was quite entertaining to watch, I do wish the hotel had informed us as we could not go to bed until after 11pm when the wedding ended.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The service was impeccable and staff was very attentive to my needs. The buffet breakfast in AM was excellent. Wide variety of local cuisine with traditional breakfast with eggs, bacon and lots of other choices to choose from. My room was well taken care of especially with the room cleaning in AM and turn down was nice too. The room is scented with jasmine, windows shutters are closed and the mosquito net is covered around the bed. Needless, to say, I slept well. The AC and WiFi was reliable and the view from my room was beautiful.
Cons: I did not like how close the ocean is to the hotel. There is hardly any beach real estate left. The beach is very busy with locals so it isn’t as quiet as say the other side of the island. I ate once in the evening and ordered shrimp. It was tasty but the evening menu needs to be revamped. It’s too limited. I did sample a variety of desserts and this really needs to be worked on. For example, the mousse was too powdery and lacked consistency. The coffee bar isn’t inviting. It’s very sparse with limited cake menu that isn’t appealing. I did not order any hot drinks.

Pros: Was sure what to expect but samaki was fabulous. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Everything was clean and the building is beautiful. Pictures don't do it justice. Oasis in Africa.
Cons: Have to get a new wifi password every morning
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: I was happy to leave
Cons: Ali the manager was rude to us upon our arrival.the hotel is completely over priced for what you get. The room was uncomfortable and run down with a musty smell. There was a lot of noise at night from nearby music. The food is European prices for sub- standard food. There is very little menu choice. There are no restaurants nearby. The beach is filthy - covered in rubbish and plastic. we felt very unsafe walking on the beach or anywhere outside the property. we had terrifying experiences being followed by locals on the beach outside the hotel. The pool water is dirty. The shower in our room ranged from freezing cold to scalding hot. The breakfast had no healthy options with the exception on omlette and watermelon. The other options were cake and rubber like pancakes. By far the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Could not possibly recommend it to anybody. The palumbo hotel in kendwa is a far far better spot.

Pros: Staff was very accommodating and friendly, the lodge was beautiful, and the food was delicious
Cons: The beds were not very comfortable
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were clean, the pool and entertainment were superb and breakfast was delicious! The staff were really helpful and went beyond the call of duty to make sure that our stay was comfortable. I highly recommend the spa! This area is wonderful as it is peaceful and quiet.
7.0 Good
Pros: The room I was given was very peaceful & and with nice sea view, the pool size was enough, the fitness equipment sufficient and breakfast buffet sufficient with a bit unique twist.
Cons: Because of the end of rainy season, some services were not available like proper TV channels clearance and visibility and some staff members lack sufficient level of hospitality industry education if this is considered a 4 star hotel.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place, friendly staff, great food. Kind of a boutique resort and not a monstruous complex. I especially enjoyed relaxing massage in the spa.
Cons: No complaints at all.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Restaurant and entertainment staff were lovely as was the samaki lodge pool which was the only one open. Food was good. Entertainment good
Cons: It was falsely advertised using the pictures from the next door hotel facilities that weren't open. They close that building for 3 months of the year and did not inform guest's that there was shared facilities so expectations were not met. We got 1/3 of what we were promised. Gym facilities were advertised but were broken, limited and in an unfinished location. What we were expecting based upon pictures and listed facilities were not there at all. Very disappointing. Pricing appeared deceptive by advertising in euro's yet were only able to charge in dollars giving the illusion of more affordable products. I strongly suggest one currency for everything and to change how they advertise both properties so people's expectations are met. Hotel's price for airport return taxi was 100 $. Far too expensive. Staff did try to rectify this by giving us one day of meals free to the price of 50$.
9.5 Excellent
Cons: TV location in the room was awkward. Water pressure was low
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff (especially Ali and Roger) were so kind and accommodating! Because we came in low season they arranged a lot of fun excursions and even allowed us to stay at their other property in Kendwa for 2 nights! We absolutely loved our stay here
Cons: The beach immediately outside the property is not very swimmable (it has a cool sandbar), but just a few minutes down the beach it is swimmable and pretty!

Pros: What a magnificent resort. The service, the food, the accommodation - all excellent. The beach is wonderful; as it the 'beach area' on the property itself. If there was a criticism it would be that the photos do not do the property justice! Please update your photos... What an exceptional property; well worth a visit!

Pros: Food and beverage was amazing, delicious. Also the bar in the evening. Pool. The design of the property is very special!
Cons: Villa 19 was a bit far to walk.

Pros: Beautiful resort, extremely easy on the eye. Great location, quiet area with not many tourists. What sets Baraza apart from other places is the service. I’ve stayed all over the world in 5 star establishments, this place ranks as the best I’ve been to. We arrived very early on our day of check in, Evelyn was kind enough to check us in to our room after just 20 minutes of waiting whilst we were served refreshments upon arrival. Evelyn and Garieb made our stay a pleasure by helping with all our requests, tending to all our activities booked etc. Every time we left the resort for an activity (stone town tour etc) they were even kind enough to see us off and ensure we had refreshments for our trip. Evelyn made sure we weren’t charged for the tray charge the day we ordered room service as my wife was sick and couldn’t make it to dinner. Exceptional attention to each client of the resort is clearly evident and everyone feels as if they are royalty. Garieb was helpful in booking all off- resort activities like fishing etc. Melisa (manager I assume) runs a tight ship and was kind enough to welcome us on arrival. Please thank Evelyn and Garieb for their excellent service and making our stay the best we’ve ever had! Food was amazing , breakfast lunch and dinner were always filled with a variety of options which would suit even the fussiest of palettes. They ask you on arrival if you have any specific dietary requirements so be sure to tell them and they will gladly accommodate your dietary needs. If food is a big part of your holiday, stay here! Even the room service is included in the All Inclusive package and only tray charges are charged. Excellent for the days when you’re too lazy to go off to restaurants and would rather enjoy the gorgeous villas. Could not ask for a better honeymoon, thank you Baraza!
Cons: Nothing, everything was perfect.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The architecture was unique and set a very relaxing ambience. The staff were there to tend to everything you could ask for. The food varied between buffet lunches and set menu dinners - all of which were varied and imaginative. The spa was by some margin the most impressive one we had experienced at any hotel. Perfect for couples.
Cons: The on-site shop is incredibly expensive: if you are looking for something local pick it up at a market. Perhaps worth noting that the airport and the main market town on the island are just over an hour drive away.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The pool, the beach and the spa!
Cons: 1. We were at the last room (24) far away from everything, when we asked to change because the hotel was not full, they said no. 2. We asked the reception to make a phone call to our credit card, we waited for 30 minutes at the room and they never did. I guess they forgot. 3. The first day we arrived we went to the sports center to ask for snorkel, they said that we could do it any day at midday. As we were at Baraza only 3 days we thought: today (first day) or our last day. We approach the sports office 1.5hs before the excursión started and they said it was too late. We were angry because they did not say we needed to confirm so much in advanced, but ok, decided to book for our last day. Unfortunately, the called us and say that there were a lot of jelly fish in the lagoon, they canceled our snorkel excursion

Pros: This hotel is located in a very central area. The rooms are very clean, and nicely decorated. We had hot water, and their toiletries were very nice. The rooftop space was beautiful, and the hotel offered a simple breakfast. They provided a shuttle for free from the airport to the hotel, which was very nice. This hotel charges 5% if you use the CC. Nice stay overall.

Pros: Hotel staff greeted my name when I returned to the hotel and at breakfast. Provided excellent recommendations for coffee and beach lounging.
Cons: They were out of the chicken sausage at breakfast all of the mornings I was there. I wish the towels would have only been taken to be washed if they were on the floor to conserve energy and water waste.

Cons: Room was a bit cramped. Not much room to move.
