7.0 Good
Pros: Good location. Hotel has changed hands since my last visit and the new owners are working to make improvements
Cons: The menu for dinner was very limited with a set menu and no a la carte. On a busy weekend some items not available as 'run out" for both mains and desserts. I stayed here a couple of years ago and the dinner menus were excellent which was part of my reason for booking so found the food disappointing......more like pub grub

Pros: Ideal location- very peaceful. No noise at all in the room. Good shower. Great breakfast, hotel staff seemed to really care about making it perfect. Lovely, Cosy bar/restaurant area with fantastic views. Everyone at the hotel was lovely. Lily was very welcoming and helped make us feel at home from the moment we arrived. One night we sat outside to enjoy the view, and she kindly offered us her midge spray so we didn’t get bitten. We also arrived quite late due to traffic problems yet she still greeted us and gave us all the information we needed. Little things like this go a long way and these made our stay memorable.

Pros: Location and ambiance of bar restaurant. Bedroom newly decorated to high standard- comfortable bed and pillows.

Cons: Initial room did not meet expectations.

Pros: We liked everything, location, fantastically attentive friendly staff, and really good food. We were only there one night as part of a journey (from Argyll to central Scotland via Bute). We were disappointed to discover that the hotel is for sale and hope it gets the owner it merits and maintains these high standards.
Cons: Liked it all.

Pros: Sandra was lovely and welcoming. She dried our walking clothes by the fire. There was loads of space with a private lounge which was amazing for the money. She provided an excellent dinner and breakfast where there was a view of the beautiful garden with red squirrels visiting. There were a couple of things not perfect mentioned above but overall it was excellent.
Cons: The shower didn't drain, the WiFi didn't work.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect place for enjoying the silence and beauty of the Cowal peninsula, very cozy and Sandra, the owner, was absolutely lovely (and a very good chef! :))
7.0 Good
Pros: The Water mill is a beautiful building right along the Cowal way. There are no other accommodations in this area, so you actually have no other options. Sandra, the owner, is a very friendly lady. For 20£ pP she prepared a 2-course dinner for us. This is definitely overpriced, but the nearest alternative for dinner would have been 8 miles away and that is too much after a whole day if hiking. Breakfast is included. The rooms were comfortable.
Cons: - dinner is overpriced - the rooms are a bit dusty
