Pros:Very tight in the room, no place to hang towels. Check-in and check-out staff overworked (not enough staff). Dinner experience terrible - didn't mind waiting to be seated but then numerous people who came in and ordered after us were received their food before we did. Not sure we would ever have gotten it if we had not asked. And we were never checked on or asked about anything.
Cons:Dining experience. They could offer breakfast of some kind. They have fruit (apples and oranges) that ran out early and juice that was mostly melted ice.

Pros:The location was super convenient to get up & out every day into the park.
Cons:The rooms were all connecting & had NO FULL DOOR (a few inches open on the bottom) so we could hear EVERYTHING from our neighbors! It was so uncomfortable. For this being the 2nd weekend open, I expect that the shampoos/soaps all be full & the windows are clean. The dispensers were still dirty from the end of last season & the windows had electrical tape on them & were filthy! This is a MOTEL through and through. The lounge & restaurant smelled like old food was ground into the carpets & the only local wine to try was more expensive than things you can get at the state-wide Applebee's-- how is that promoting local business?? Didn't try the food, we went into Cortez all 3 nights! The FV Terrace was a tough sell for breakfast. $15 "buffet" that had biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs and cut fruit. $10 continental that had oatmeal, cereal, make-your-own waffles & grocery store pastries.

Pros:Beautiful views, grear food from the cafe where you check in at. Quiet and stunning views of the stars at night too. Overall just a couple of issues, would recommend it though.
Cons:Room wasn't as clean as I expected for the price. Had trouble getting the back door to shut properly.

Pros:The Far View Lodge is in a great location if you plan to spend more than one day in Mesa Verde National Park. (If you stay in Cortez, plan on a 1-2 hour drive to Cliff Palace.) The rooms are pretty basic, and ours was fairly small with a tiny bathroom (shower only) and very short toilet.. The Kiva rooms have a/c; the others don't. If you want a King room, be sure to verify before you stay. We reserved a King, but were told they were sold out at check-in. The view from our room was beautiful. We also enjoyed the view from the balcony in the upstairs bar in the lodge. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. In fact, it was non-existent. Dinner at the Matate Room was good, but pricey. We waited longer to get a table by the window, but by the time we were seated, it was almost dark out. The service at dinner was good. We were given breakfast vouchers, because of the mixup in our accommodations. They weren't worth it. We were seated, but a server never came to our table. I finally got up and found the server and asked for juice and coffee (the food is on a buffet). The server never returned to our table, even though he was quite chatty and attentive with other patrons. We finally left the vouchers on the table and left, as we never even got our check! If you don't care about the convenience of the location, much better accommodations can be found in the town of Cortez.
