10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is just a few minutes walk from Jumonji Train Station. It was clean and a peaceful place to stay in. They have a lot of brochures for places to visit and activities to do in Akita. I was travelling for work so I didn't get to look around. The staff was really nice and can speak both in Japanese and English so it wouldn't be hard to communicate. I would totally stay again when I come back to Akita. Thank you!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostel was easy to find, and had a great atmosphere. The bed was more spacious than I expected. Staff were super friendly and helpful, really went above and beyond to make me feel welcome!
Cons: I was mostly touring around Aomori city and so this hostel was a bit far; in theory an hour is not much, but after a whole day of touring around it felt quite long...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: About 3-4 minutes’ walk from Jumonji train station. The staff were so friendly and helpful. (Thanks, Madoka and everyone else!) The food was AMAZING - both the Japanese breakfasts and the evening meals. Fantastic food and great value too - ¥600 for breakfast and ¥1,000 for dinner. The place is a renovated traditional building. Beautiful. There’s also a kitchen and there are even free apples
Cons: The local craft beer was delicious but a tad expensive-¥800 for a smallish bottle. Still, it was good.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Super nice staff. Very comfy and warm (I went in February, so it was freezing outside). The bar is also super nice, with good food and great decoration.
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff was very friendly and helpful
Cons: The price. This place was super expensive for a basic hostel in the countryside. Literally 3 times what I paid in Tokyo. The beds might be a bit hard for some.
7.0 Good
Pros: The hostel is placed 5 minutes far away from the train station. Receptionist speaks English very well. The hostel has shared toilet and shared bathroom, but it's always clean. They also offer you a breakfast with fair price. The breakfast is simple but tasty, I also recommend you to try local fermented tea and local apple juice.
Cons: We had separate room on the second flour, but it was quite cold and even constantly working heating system didn't safe the situation. Toilet cabins and bath rooms are also cold, hopefully hot shower and toilet seat with heating helps a lot. Also you have to leave you shoes on the entrance, which makes you shoes cold as well. At night there is constantly working some kind of diesel engine or fan which makes a lot of noise and sometimes is very annoying.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great overall atmosphere, especially the bar. The food including their breakfast was very good
Cons: It’s a basic dormitory for younger travellers. The hostel is not for all
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly. It was also really close to a train station. It seemed like a great place to relax.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The host is thoughtful and I like the nostalgic vibe in this hostel!!
Cons: The hostel is nearby the train station Jumonji but a little bit far from Akita.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff at this hostel were fantastic they made we feel very welcomed and remembered little details about my trip from one day to the next. The facilities were nice, and the beds were quite spacious! Good atmosphere, I talked with other travellers and met interesting people.
Cons: While the hostel is in a great location related to the train station Jumonji, I was mostly touring around Akita City, and this accommodation was a little far from there. I looked it up before booking, but after a day of sight seeing, an hour it far to travel to get to the place where you'll rest your head.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The amazing variety of local food, freshly prepared and beautifully served was an adventure in traditional Akita Japanese cuisine, but not for the faint hearted as some of the tastes and textures are very different from western style cuisine. The service, fresh tea and sweets would appear in our room as if by magic. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and provided lifts to and from the station and helped us choose local train times to suit our itinerary. The natural hot spring mineral water onsen is the real onsen experience. The private outdoor onsen were particularly enjoyable but beware of scratching yourself on the mineral encrusted wood. The rooms are traditional Japanese rooms and are beautifully decorated, even though the decoration has faded with age you can still appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship. Individual antique pieces are carefully chosen and displayed in traditional Japanese manner in each room to enhance your experience. The futons were very comfortable and the air conditioning in the rooms meant we were able to maintain a comfortable temperature in our room. The provided traditional Yukata and jackets were very comfortable after a soak in the onsen and many people wore them to dinner in the shared dining room. Our experience was enhanced by having a Japanese speaker in our party. In this part of Japan English is not widely spoken. Our hosts provided a pretty accurate description of the menu in English and our hostess indicated which condiments went with which dish by pointing but it certainly helps if you can clarify things by speaking Japanese. You could probably get by with only a phrase book or translation app and gestures but this is not Tokyo or Kyoto. If you want to experience the real Japan, hardly changed for over a hundred years, this is as good a place to do it as any.
Cons: The shared wash room was unheated and a little chilly during our stay as the outside temperature dropped to 8 degrees C. The toilet did have a heated seat which was very welcome. Our room was next to the wash room which was a mixed blessing as it was convenient but also meant that we got a little noise from other guests using the wash room. The bugs, they come with the territory but Japanese insects are quite a bit bigger than we experience in Europe.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The ryokan itself was an amazingly beautiful building. Very cool to stay somewhere so traditional. Onsens were great- inside ones and private outside onsens. The staff/hosts were so very kind and helpful. They came to pick us up in free shuttle from station no problems even after I changed my travel plans a few times. Then drove us back to station next day. I had left a drink bottle in the room and another staff member got in a car and brought it to us! Dinner was a unique local produce feast. Local craft beer and sake excellent too. Presented so beautifully and host domaines all dishes. Breakfast wonderful too. It was toasty warm in our beautiful and large room.

Cons: the facilities is old fashioned
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Right next to train station, great staff, good selection for breakfeast
Cons: Aircon filter may need to be cleaned more often
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was extremely comfortable and the location right by the train station couldn't be beat. We got to the hotel late at night both nights and there was still a restaurant open right across the street. It was centrally located for the region and we took side trips to Akita and to see the cherry blossoms.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It takes only 5 minutes walk to train station and restaurants. Also surprised to find out there's a public bath in the hotel. It was simple but I really enjoyed it. The staff are polite, welcoming, and efficient. The room is slightly more spacious than the ones we're used to at other business hotels. The free buffet breakfast is also good with a lot of varieties.
Cons: There's a slight damp smell when we first entered the room but it was soon gone after we turned on the air-con. The next day was ok too. I'd be happy to retun to stay next time I visit the Omagari.

7.0 Good
Pros: All good for a night stay
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The roo.m was very clean so as the bathroom. Breakfast had 3 choices which were served in very beautiful Japanese dishes. This was much better than viking style which most hotels offer.
Cons: There was no room for 3 guests and no connecting room either. We were offered hot spring tickets but due to short stay we could not use. It would have been better to have other option, such as discount in hotel bar use etc. Double bed was quite small for 2 people. . No freezer in the mini bar.

7.0 Good
Pros: Reasonable choice for travellers to the Akita festival. No longer than 1 hour from the hotel to the events
Cons: Small rooms, boring place
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a great place to sleep. Nothing fancy but it was perfect for nice place to sleep.
Cons: The bed was a bit hard.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Less than 10 minutes by foot from JR Omagari and less than 5 minutes to the bus terminal; GranMart supermarket less than 5 minutes by foot; Small open closet for your clothes; Coffee maker and tea at the lobby; Checked-in ahead of specified time; Coin laundry machine; Quiet location; About 10 minutes by shinkansen or 20 minutes by local train to JR Kakunodate
Cons: I felt a slight electric shock (could be grounded) when touching the faucet and the air conditioner knob; Coin dryer machine not enough to dry my laundry for 60 minutes but air conditioner in the room finished the job.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This is a standard no-frills business hotel which gives you a good night’s sleep for a very good price. The hotel is located in a quiet town with not much happening except the firework festivals. It is - however - conviniently located if you happen to travel by train/shinkansen to the different attractions/activities in Akita(Extremely convinient for JR pass holders!). Even though the hotel seems old, it’s surprisingly well maintained. The staffs are friendly and are glad to help you with your requests(even though english skills ain’t top notch). This won’t be my last time to Akita and I’d gladly stay here again.
Cons: The beds were a tad bit hard for my liking. Make sure you dont book a smoking room by mistake, the smoking floor reeks of the smell.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was great! Amenities were clean. Buttons for lights are on the bed itself so you don't even have to get up. Bathroom was cute. There was fresh tea and coffee early morning in the foyer. For those who smoke there's a designated smoking room as well. The hotel has an attached restaurant for convenience.
Cons: Communal washing machines (just 2 for an entire hotel) were always full. Had to come in the dead of night to do laundry.
7.0 Good
Pros: I forgot stuff and went back to get it and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Free coffee at the front and there was a coin laundry option! Super close to the station
Cons: The walls seemed thin. I could hear the guy next door snoring like a mofo and when I used my computer at night (as I couldn't sleep) the connection seemed a little bit off. Its definitely centred towards male working men though so if u are weird about that then it may be an issue.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All aspects of it was fabulous
Cons: The step down from the bathroom floor to the room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Only male onsen but they provided onsen powder. So you can enjoy onsen at your own room privately.
Cons: Onsen only for male.
7.5 Good
Pros: There's a big supermarket nearby.
Cons: There isn't a lot of eateries nearby.

Pros: breakfast is very good
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel, with a good atmosphere. Definitely a great choice for a business trip or a holiday. It's facilities are great and it worths the money you pay.
Cons: I made a last minute reservation and I got a smoking room, everything was good except for the smell. It could be strong from some people, but I didn't mind though.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were incredibly helpful, professional and without a doubt are the facilities greatest asset
7.5 Good
Pros: The size of the rooms and the quality of the beds made the stay very enjoyable. The rooms were huge, unlike most Japanese hotels I've stayed in. The staff, a hotel manager in particular, went over the top to ensure that we got the taxis we needed (as we travelled as a family and had many huge bags) and also, he patiently described to us, in his broken English, the sights available to us in Yokote during our stay.
Cons: The English proficiency of the rest of the staff was a huge turndown. I understand that in such a small town, I couldn't expect much. But still, the stay would have been more enjoyable had the staff been more fluent in English.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: At first glance, it looks like a normal hostel. But when entering the room, I was a bit surprised getting the 'traditional Japanese room' feel. Definitely will recommend this place and will go there again next time.
Cons: The staff sometimes not available on the counter. When I was going to check out, I need to look around for the staff first before can return the key to the front desk. And difference with other area in Japan maybe, need walk around 5-10 minutes first to get into the nearest convenience store.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Japanese style room very clean and spacious, near to the train station, the people working there were very friendly, helpful and nice.I would definitely stay again.
