The food was very well presented and very tasty There was no mirror in the bedroom area and not quite enough light at the bathroom mirror
The venison was out of this world - fantastic! The staff were also fun and friendly - had a super time in the bar! No hair dryers was unusual, however, must be common here as there isn't one at the Holiday Inn either!
The location at the foot of the Ochil hills was superb and handy for Stirling city centre. They need to pipe music into the bar area to break the silence.
Right from the hard working lovely staff to the shower, the whole castle was lovely. The room was in keeping with the surroundings and was very please to see a clean bathroom. The evening meal was well worth the money and would certainly go back again. The floor board were a bit squeaky but that cant be helped so was aware when walking over the floor.
Very attractive place to stay. Clean and comfortable.
Alistair and Alieen were just lovely, Made us feel very welcome and had made up a handy list for taxi numbers, restaurants ect. The room was lovely and warm for us coming in and was beautifully decorated. My partner and I will be using them again.
was amazed was top class for price paid .we WILL be back thanks n/a
The welcome was excellent. Bed was comfy and I realy got to relax after a stressfull day of meetings. Would definatly visit again and recomend to others.
Very nice rooms little hard to find
The owner is very friendly and helpful. There is a pub within easy walking distance, and the room was warm, clean and a good size. It is a fair way out of town, but not a problem if you have a car.
The food was good in the bar. The lobby is a little shabby as are some of the corridors but for the money I paid this is not unreasonable
everything was just fine.
Comfortable and relaxed. Parking was a bit tough.
Preis in Ordnung No Internet access in the room, no smoking rooms.
Location Trying to find the way up a one way street
Very often a long wait to be served at the bar as it was one of the waiters who kept coming through from the restaurant to serve drinks.
location room was small. generally looked a bit tired
Receptionist extremely helpful Very small room, was under the impression that there would be a bath. Evening meal very disappointing; ordered roast which was supposed to come with roast potatoes and was only told there were none left after it had arrived. Gravy very lumpy and meat very chewy. Only one large towel in room.
The Golden Lion is perfectly located 5 minutes from the train, and at the heart of Stirling. There was dozens of pubs, restaurants and shops to keep you entertained, the room and bathrooms were clean, and the staff were lovely and had no problems holding my bag until check-in time. I was even able to squeak into a top-floor room with an amazing view over Stirling and of the surrounding hill-side - spectacular! While the exterior and main floor are exquisite and inviting, the hotel rooms left a lot to be desired. The beds were comfortable enough, the bathroom was functional, however it is out-dated and has an off-colour that doesn't come out from years of use. Luckily it was big and spacious - a great break to stretch your legs after a busy day.
Location, price. Car park needs better signing, and information on how to get the barrier moved.
Peaceful room, Friendly staff, Excellent breakfast.
Stuart, the proprietor, was a super friendly, helpful guy. He made us feel so welcome. The place was clean, comfortable and lovely. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The house is a short walk (20-30) to the bus and train stations and downtown and is also along there bus line. Nothing.
The lake side location and the evening meal.
excellent setting, great bar. rooms were at a high standard food was poor for the price - bland and overcooked. I have been here before and this is not the typical standard here which is normally very good
excellent location, stunning scenery. Staff were very pleasant, service outstanding. Restaurant exceeded expectations
The setting and location are excellent and the staff were good The main restaurant menu and the wine list are a bit overpriced for what you get . There is better value in the bar - but you don't get the view !
Location and views from the dining room with binoculars to study the wildlife. Food was superb. We had a poor view from the bedroom but did leave the booking till late.
Food was fantastic
Excellent location, food and service
The quality of the menu and the attentiveness of staff.
A very cosy bar area for having a relaxing meal in a chilled atmosphere by a log fire.
The hotel was wonderful, a great find! The hotel has a lovely view of the lake whilst eating your breakfast and evening meal. Both the evening meal and breakfast was delicious.
Room was nice and clean. Location was terrible. Through traffic and lots of large truck deliveries, as well as other noise kept us awake and woke us up early. There was no remote for the room television and front desk could not locate us one and could not show us how to operate.
swimming pool was clean with helfully staff the breakfast. mine breakfast was cold on all three days and the servise was slow you lucky to get your drink after you finish you breakfast with cold toast also it not cooked to order like it says on the breakfast menu.
The comfort of the hotel, its faclities and the staff made this a most enjoyable stay. Unfortunately, my wife was unable to have a spa treatment due to the majority of staff being away on training
the location is great and the hotel is interesting because it is an old school.
Tired room needed decorating
Lovely breakfast and bed was very comfortable. Generally very dated, and a bit tired. Only paid £79 so not too expensive wouldn't pay more.
Freindly staff - nice atmosphere Room could have been a little larger - also unable to open window wide enough to get fresh air.
Nice big room Choice at breakfast was poor compared to similarly priced hotels I have stayed at eg no potato scones, hash browns, no apparent veggie option
Was working so only used the bed and then only for 4 hours No
The location and friendly staff. The rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The longe bar and playing chess but not the very expensive drinks and it cried out for a log/ burnes fire as not overly warm Not impressed at all. room was cold due to single glazing even with the heating on. the resturant menu is very limited in choice, we saw a some guests eating out, as we did. there was no hotel info in the room?? Breakfast was a little disorganised and felt rushed. we arrived around 8.30 and it is served until 10am. the waitress removed my partners plate before I had finished then hovered as I was on my last mouthful and removed the plate as I was still eating, very poor indeed.
The rooms were excellent - large, clean and comfortable. The staff were superb - very accomodating and helpful. We will definitely be visiting Stirling again and will stay at The Terraces Hotel.
the location to the town centre the road leading upto the hotel, was strange to locate due to the road lay out.
From the minute we arrived the staff made us feel welcome, the customer service was outstanding
staff very friendly at all times. Food good. Great central location yet quiet
Friendly staff The most important thing and the reason I stay in a Hotel is for a comfortable bed. Th bed in room 3 was the most uncomfotable bed I have slept in. Also I would like my own key when out late
I don't like typical breakfast (beans, eggs etc...) no choices in morning menu
The cleanliness, the proximity to the city center and the railway station, the good breakfast.
myself and my daughter had a very pleasant stay lovely breakfast helpful staff pleasant room would definately stay again
All the staff were quite efficient and friendly. The room had everything I needed. Very nice breakfast and everything was when and where I needed it. Great location, too, and a charming house to stay in.
We both enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. We had a great 5 day break
used the full use of the hotel ,the swimming pool etc was first class no
The hotel was in a really good location, with superb grounds to enjoy. The leisure club was excellent and the staff were very helpful.
Excellent situation , with magnificent view.
pleasant surroundings, helpful staff no
We have been going to this hotel for over 25yrs & just love it it is so central for everything, touring shopping golf & walking so close to the historic town of Stirling. New decor slightly on the dark side in dining room.
They were very accommodating and let us change rooms to get away from the wedding noise. Lots of weddings - and accompanying loud music!
The situation of the hotel. The helpfulness of the staff The food was not particularly impressive.
Friendly relaxing atmosphere
A beautiful place and surroundings.Would definetly recommend to other friends and family to stay here. Only concern was, that the air con was not working correctly
leisure facilities were put in a famoly room with small double bed, decor needs some updating
Beautiful location and friendly staff. Only one small lift. Expect to wait.
staff were helpful and friendly breakfast was great overall very pleasant stay room was lovely
Exellent Value for Money Breakfast Site Seing Castle Monuments and also met Friends for a birthday Party
Helpfulness of staff
The breakfast was cooked well, no grease, and a full English available with the choice of buffet providing cereals, fruit juices, fruit and toast etc. The beds were clean and comfortable. Yes unfortunately we were placed in a room which must have been a 'smoking' room before the law was enforced. Therefore the room smelf strongly of stale tobacco smoke and it was necessary to sleep with the window wide open all night. Also the shower did not run with hot water, only luke warm to cold, therefore had to have a bath and use the shower lower to rinse hair when washed in the bath, whih left us cold!
dining room exceptional and the menu excellent. room a bit small but nicely decorated and fresh. external looked a bit tired.
Good breakfast. Morning paper. Room was quiet. The window curtain is practically tranparent and this led to light pollution from outside
lovely room, good breakfast
The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel could do with a bit of modernisation.
shower was powerful terrible service - one waiter so it tok 45mins to get juice and cereal at breakfast -no info in room on times of breakfast, checkout etc - no bath in either room despite request for same
The shower Room small and decor was dark
Excellent customer service and facilities
Smart modern hotel. Pleasant staff
How accommodating the staff were.
Desk staff were helpful in finding a restaurant. The breakfast offered a variety of options. I wish there had been a separate sheet on the bed instead of just a duvet. I understand that this is typical of most UK and European hotels.
Excellent staff. I'd like the choice to have a cooked breakfast.
We found the staff very pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast arrangements were roomy and the food was good.
Nice hotel could have been better Room smelling of smoke complained and nothing was done about it
on the whole, a well run and clean hotel, staff pleasant and location of hotel excellent if you plan to visit surrounding areas.
Staff were brilliant, I had to stay extra night due to snow, staff had road closures all printed off for guests. Room clean, I put comfort down to good as I found the bed a bit hard but this may suit other people. breakfast included, great. as above, bed a little hard.
the location was great for the park and ride in to stirling. the eating inn next door was excellent too.
convenience Walls between rooms were paper thin
Staff were welcoming. Process for booking in and out was quick. Everything asked for was provided. On entering the room it was slightly cold. However after an hour it did warm up.
Lock on room did not work, staff acted quickly to solve problem Lock did not work, however we were moved to another room
Pleasant atmosphere; comfortable room; friendly helpful staff. No tea or coffee facilities in the room. Room (and bed) clearly intended for a single occupant (only one bed light).
was at a wedding ideal the hairdryer in room did not work I didn't have one with me
The hotel is good for people using the management centre or the university, it is not a leisure hotel. the rooms are basic but fine. Some areas such as the bathroom would benefit from refurbishment / upgrading. Customer service could be improved.
Clearly very handy if attending a conference at the Management Centre, but actually this would still be a great place to stay even if just visiting Stirling or the area for leisure. Food and service all brilliant. a clear commitment to green issues – more than lip service. Not really any bad points. The hot water for a bath in the evening was not quite as warm as I would have liked, though the shower in the morning was a very decent temperature. It could b that I needed to run the hot tap for longer, but that would have run counter to the environmentally friendly ethos of the place.
Staff professional/friendly and location setting is great.
On the University of Stirling campus, so ideal for meetings with University management and faculty
Friendly, helpful staff. Brilliant location with stunning views of countryside and Wallace Monument. First Class!
Very helpful friendly staff. The breakfast menu was excellent. I thought there was going to be a problem when we arrived - 6 rooms had been reserved instead of 3. I appreciate that there was a wedding reception but the bar service at 11pm was slow.
All staff very friendly, hotel very clean, rooms cleaned every day to high standard, good choice at breakfast Only fault was that the double beds were very small so did not have very much room to move ,so did not sleep very well
Peaceful surroundings. Very friendly & helpful staff even though two of my 3three days the hotel was busy with functions I got a good meal in the bar area and quick service. Compared to the rates I usually have to pay in Stirling this was value for money. It may not be in the centre of town but its very easy to get in by public transport if you want a night out and a taxi is not going to break the bank!! Why do hotels have to use "fussy" taps for bath/shower? S.M.C. are no exception and the one in room 214 took all of my strength (I am 6' and 15st) to alter the heat setting. Not great for a family!!
good location and grounds no one at reception and failed to respond to room service.Apparently issues with the phones
The food was good in quantity and quality. The reception was non-existent, even after using the designated bell and the designated emergency phone no. The reason for this was that the responsible member of staff was at a meeting. Unacceptable. The immediate surroundings of the hotel wewre well maintained - the grass ahd been cut. Outwith that the grounds were poorly maintained. The scrap metal was something outwith the realms of sculpture. The decor was past its sell by date and the hotel needed some investment. Small niggly things, like a leaking noisy tap, were unacceptable.
The service was first class nothing was a bother to the staf I would liked to have been able to visit a bar for drinks where I could purchase draught beer
Very relaxing No bar
This is an excellent example of a country hotel. It is set in a large estate, so guests can enjoy a long entrance drive to the building! The interior and furnishings reflect a lost era, one we can only experience here and similar establishments. Our room was reasonably sized although lacking the massive bath experienced in an earlier visit. The hotel has a 5 course dinner available. The food is excellent. However, the price at £50 per head is steep. When coffee is an extra at £4, it appears that the proprietors are being greedy. As there is nowhere else nearby, especially considering that long entrance drive, what can you expect from a monopoly?
I liked the setting and peaceful atmosphere of the hotel. I did not like the room we were allocated, advertised as graciously comfortable. It was more suitable as a single room. Also had a few 'do's and don'ts which were a bit unacceptable.
quality of food; peaceful; excellent room; beautiful grounds
location , fantastic building
excellent service and helpful staff
Everything was first class - the come and go easy policy is so homely. The staff have time for you, and want to give you of the best in a totally unobtrusive way. The silence is palpable, and for anyone wanting to relax, it is simply perfect. The facilities are so good, they cannot be described - only experienced; if you want peace and quiet, along with good food. Nothing, except that the tap dripped!
Very friendly owner and daughter. We had an excellent breakfast and the room we had was large, comfortable and really warm as it was a cold night. Ideal location for visiting Blair Drummond Safari Park.
First of all it was not a hotel, it was a B&B, and a poor one at that.We were shown into our room, where we had to stay all evening, we where not told there was a room where we could sit.We where just getting off to sleep(on a very uncomfortable bed) when someone sheezed,it was as if they where in the room with us.The towels where like sandpaper. The room was nothing like what I seen on the booking,it was all a mismatch of furniture, and the carpet was like something my granny would have in our living room.
How approachable and knowledgable the owner was, nothing was too much trouble for him. Plus the breakfasts were wonderful. How quick time passed !
The owner could not have made us more welcome We were allowed to bring a couple of friends back ie husband and wife for food and drinks and then were told we were making too much noise - we were on holiday!!!
everything and would like to say many thanks to jon and family for an excellent weekend from steve denise tony lesley nothing
Nice staff, nice view...very quite!
A lovely, small farmhouse, with amazing views of the hills. A very friendly family atmosphere, in a charming and peaceful location. The breakfast was freshly cooked with lovely produce. There weren't any. That's why I was surprised to see such a low rating previously.
Very friendly and informative staff. Easy to find.
We were visiting the nearby safari park and it was within 5 minutes drive, easily accessible, just off a main road, but quiet and relaxing nonetheless.
We stayed in the 5 bed room (there were three of us). The room was very nice and light and had a nice view across fields. There was a large lounge/dining room which we could use. Our host was both attentive and discrete and makes marvellous porridge. The room was fine for us, although I think 5 people would get under one another's feet - there is plenty of room in the lounge/diner. The towel warmer was extremely hot. Towels a bit scratchy.
very good value slow service in the dining room
The food at the hotel was of a very good standard and very reasonably priced and the staff were pleasent and helpful. The price of the room was competative but this was reflected in its condition. The condition of the decor in the room was in a word "tatty", the double room was small but warm and the bathroom was of a good size with everything working as it should.
All staff were helpful and friendly. Good meal in the restaurant.
The breakfast was excellent. Everything else was very good. Only the Christmas promotion decorations up in July.
I stayed at the hotel due to the snow and the service was very good and the food was delicious and fairly priced. The bed wasnt very comfortable
Friendly (Hungarian) receptionist. Central location. The hotel had character though was a little tatty. The bar menu described the dishes in detail, however my experience was that the description did not fully match the food served. The bar was run by a foreign (Polish?) girl with little command of English and no grace. Not a nice experience.
The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and polite.
Convienent for staying in Bridge of Allan The room needs renovation. THe ceiling has water stain. One of the knobs on the bathtub is gone! Internet connection is very poor - cannot connect to the internet!
It suited our purpose close to family. will probably come again. Your contradicting yourselves. Don't like... complaint... is the same. So whats the answer. We had two for such a short stay. your sandwiches were poorly constructed and appeared frozen, and no staff covering our bar area, sitting waiting for service...
The hotel was perfectly situated. The staff were extremely friendly and made our stay very happy. The place could do with a lick of paint. It was obvious there had been signs of damp. Looking out the window, the side gardens needed atttention and there was a dead bird directly underneath the window, which obviously had been there for some time.
