The old character and style, original features and the attention to detail.
a pleasantly old fashioned english style hotel. nice rooms and pleasant staff. the food is good but don't expect large portions one of our party was mistakenly booked into a room in the extended part of the hotel, this room was small and had a strong smell of cigarettes. the staff moved her out with minimum of fuss to a room in the main part of the hotel, the rooms here are much better.
Very Good No internet!!!!
Spacious, clean, well dcorated accommodation.
Room had a musky smell from smoking
Hotel very pleasant and staff very helpful. Service for the wedding reception very good. Excellent venue for a wedding. Food very good. Room very basic. Not enough storage I.e bedside cabinet, drawers. No spare pillows. Only 1 opening window. Not enough plug sockets in the room.
The location. Good car parking. Pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent food. No.
The downstairs of the hotel was beautiful and all public area's were well kept. The room was unclean, especially the bathroom. The shower screan was covered in mildew, the floor was covered in someone elses hair and blood. The bedroom window was rotten and had an inch gap at the top, which let the cold in at night. There was no heating on in the whole hotel and we stayed at the end of Sept. Also, they said they offered a continental breakfast, which wasnt on offer, unless you asked for it, but you were not given that imforation at check in.
Staff friendly and helpful. Convenient location of hotel for visiting family. We had a lovely leisurely lunch on the Sunday for a large group (18) some felt the beef was a little tough, but overall nice and relaxing and staff helpful. I felt there could have been a better selection of teas in room (eg. Herbal) and the bedroom needed a really good clean, especially around window and radiator area, lots of dust , cobwebs etc and window needed repair/painting and soundproofing or double glazing.
Breakfast was very good - freshly cooked and nicely presented We checked out after 1 night, having booked for 2 because we were unable to sleep from the noise above our room which, we understand, was occupied by staff. There was considerable noise from footsteps, banging and especially noise like a bath being filled - these sounds went on until after 2am and started again before 7am next morning. It was impossible to sleep.
We found the room quite cold in the night
Only negative point I can make about my time at the hotel was that we asked for a newspaper to be delivered on Sunday morning and my boyfriend had to come and ask for it.
No tv reception. And internet kept going off.
Everything, but breakfast was very good. Cups in the room were for coffee, and small,it would be nice to have large cups for tea
Strange, unwelcoming feeling.
I didn't particularly like anything about my stay. At a push I could say that the bed was comfortable and the room clean. I only stayed one night. Staff were weirdly detached. Not unfriendly but just blank. After the reception area, the carpets & fixtures look tired & threadbare. The fitments in my bathroom were falling off the wall & the shower head clogged with lime. Check-out time was 11am. As I was just heading out of my room I got a call from reception to say I'd overstayed. I looked at my watch & it was 11.02 !! The evening before I was meeting friends in the bar/pub attached to the hotel. Whilst the hotel itself is making in-roads to be more 'boutique', the bar attracts the type of clientelle reminiscent of its history when it was a B&B for locally stationed American Service men. I didn't go in.
The staff were helpful. The food was good and a reasonable choice was offered considering the size of the hotel No lift
Very clean, well decorated and staff where more than helpful. Sorted as soon as the issue was raised
The staff were always very helpful and friendly. The location was excellent - just a short walk into the city centre of felixstowe. There is not much insulation from noise inside the room.
The radiator could not be controlled or switched off - just as well that the hotel's heating was switched off at 11.00 p.m. !
Pleasant staff, clean bedding The room had not been decorated sine the 1970's, wallpaper hanging off, sky news only sky channel
Position and size of room excellent value. Staff friendly. Hotel well situated. Noise levels from the bar as room directly above. Perhaps could turn volume down about 10pm. Variety of menu for evening meals could be larger. Perhaps grills of some description.
Staff were extremely welcoming, kind and helpful. The hotel is in a wonderful position with its seaviews and easy access to the promenade and beach. The Marlborough has real seaside character. The room we were allocated had super views, was warm and spacious but there was some noise from the bar below. This was not particularly obtrusive as the bar was fairly quiet during our stay but there may be the potential for disturbance.
comfy bed and nice size room No plug for hairdryer anywhere near a mirror!! Could not operate shower. Very awkward to find rooms and way down to ground floor. Reception did not give any help only 'rooms on the first floor'.
Cordial behaviour of the hotel staff. Hotel room overpriced.
hotel rooms in urgent need of updating, beds were old and very uncomfortable, decor very tired and dated.very poor value for money. would not stay there again.,
The location was brilliant, the room was clean and comfortable and the staff at the desk and in dining room were very helpful, friendly and efficient.
Restaurant did not open until 7am for breakfast.
Massive Bed, brilliant breakfast (especially the egg chef!), well priced parking (for Brighton) Not enough power sockets in the room and the shower dripped when it was turned off.
The room was set up as single though it was booked as single i.e. only one chair, had to look for extra towels etc. Breakfast was disproportionally expensive.
The hotel is very clean and of an excellent standard. It is well situated for Ipswich and the surrounding area. I stayed there for one night as I was attending a training course nearby. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone for a similar purpose. The car park is very small but other parking is available about a three minute walk away
The whole experience was brilliant wasn't sure what to expect but succeeded these expectations
Clean, bright, modern hotel and rooms with friendly staff. Car parking. Not enough customer parking on site and you can only park off site from 5.30pm till 9.30am.
We found rooms very comfortable and staff very friendly and helpful
Clean and comfortable Car park was tiny and had a 1/2 mile walk to/from the overflow carpark also breakfast was not included :-(
Staff friendly , approachable, discreet. None
A nice hotel run by friendly and helpful staff, and in walking distance to the main shopping area. The pillows are very uncomfortable. The bed was fine.
I have stayed at this hotel before and found the staff on both occasions to be very polite and helpful. I cannot think of anything I didn't like.
the breakfast is excellent....
Very comfortable bed. The breakfast chef was very attentive - the poached eggs were perfect! Shortage of car parking space on site. Pay & display parking available over the road. Beware traffic wardens are very vigilant(especially from 8am)
The location so close to the City centre of Ipswich. Just 10 min. walk. There was no free WiFi in the room.
The lobby and bar area are newly furnished. The hotel was empty so we were always served immediately. We upgraded the room but it was still very basic and in need of a lick of paint. Decent shower though.
the bar closed too early.
No hassle Wedding guests seemed more important than other guests. £12 for breakfast is just too epensive. Car parking arrangement was broken on first day.
The staff were very friendly, although English language proved slightly difficult. On the Front Desk Notice Board it stated: Breakfast £12 but did not state per person or per Room? Whereas the other prices were per Room
The inprovements in the rooms since I last stayed in a Novotel
The rooms are very comfortable, but noisy due to outside traffic noise. The cooked part of the breakfast was dry and overcooked thus wasn't the money!
Cuisine was of a high standard. Furnishings were in good taste and quality Check out a little chaotic
very relaxing atmosphere, excellant food and very attentive staff
Pleasant and friendly atmosphere, staff very helpfull, surrounding countryside beautiful. & Woodbridge has a very friendly feeling very nice place to enjoy a weekend. The website discribtion of the room was not the same as the actual room supplied a little misleading I would advise others to telephone and check first.
Staff, particularly in restaurant, were high calibre. Room was spotless. Setting superb. Only small fault was that menu was the same both days, but food quality excellent
The relaxed atmosphere
Charming building with lovely grounds and a friendly welcome. None!
The hotel's history, breakfast was good and varied. The bedroom was comfortable and clean. Very helpful breakfast staff.
Spacious dinning room and bedroom.Enjoyed the pool, nice size.Breakfasts were excellent, good food and quick service.Friendly pleasant staff. Thought the bathroom looked a bit tired!! Could do with updating and redecorating.
Very welcoming and relaxing stay. Beautiful warm pool and lovely gardens. Superb food and pleasant and helpful staff.
Beautiful hotel and grounds. Excellent facilities. Leisure centre well equipped with a delightful absence of screaming children!! Staff friendly and efficient. Room clean and well presented. I got a great last minute deal- so good value. I booked a superior room, which promised either a four-poster bed/ balcony/ extra special view. I expected to be in the hotel. I was given a self catering "dairy cottage",the view was of the court yard and accross from the leisure centre kitchen!(So no view, no balcony, no four poster.)It was very spacious and clean but not what I booked! It was my first wedding anniversary. I booked the superior room based on the promise of what I would get. I didn't get that. Because it was a surprise for my husband, I didn't want to spoil things by making a fuss.
Staff extremely helpful. Beautiful room. Fantastic location. Left phone charge behind which 'disappeared'. This is the only negative and bascially our fault....
Position and direction of bedroom. No separate bar which encourages you to leave the hotel for this facility. Noisy chambermaid in the morning. Had television on/music
very polite helpful staff nothing
The location A dog in room nearby barking during the night..............
Very friendly and efficient staff , fab location and food. Another very enjoyable stay at the Salthouse - hope we can stay for longer next time.
Suffolk Grill for breakfast, powerful hot shower, comfortable bed and nice bedlinen, nice big soft towels, cleanliness, Staff attitude, spaciousness of room and bathroom, ambience of hotel in a sympathetic conversion. Lift was out of order and we were on 3rd floor, washbasin tap that is too clever to be functional (you have had to publish instructions on how to use it etched on the mirror for heaven's sake) and very, very irritating especially when you have hair gel on your hands and you're trying to turn it on to wash them...fresh towels on the 2nd day that shed fluff like i don't know what.
The deco was fantastic, really gave you the wow factor when you came in from the street. I thought that replenishing your coffee tray during your stay was a very personal touch. I loved it all
This was our second stay in your beautiful hotel. As a birthday surprise for my husband two years running he was ecstatic to discover of our return. The room and view was beautiful, staff faultless with polite efficiency but also very friendly. I did speak to the lovely young man who was present at our arrival and then appeared in the restaurant about how fantastic our stay had been and thanked him. I also explained how important the stay had been, partly because I wanted it to go well for my husband's birthday but also due to the sad fact that in the last 18 months I have lost both my parents and my younger brother. Experiences like this act as a real tonic. Thank you so much! Could have done with more milk sachets.
Very pleasent and friendly staff , very comfortable and relaxed feel to this hotel.Stayed at many but had to take time to fill review and recommendt his one.Fantastic marina setting.Would stay again.
Very friendly staff
Good position and ease for getting into Ipswich. We enjoyed having the free use of swimming pool. Evening meal was mediocre and over priced. Drinks from the bar were extremely expensive
Secure parking, good service. Extremely expensive bar and poor presentation of drinks
Very clean, jenny on reception is top class and runs a good front desk.
We enjoyed the spa, helpful staff easy access to road system No lift in the hotel
The reception staff were particularly helpful and friendly. They made us feel very welcome. Comfortable room and quiet. Good gym. No lift for reaching first floor with heavy suitcases
The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The swimming pool was much appreciated with the jacuzzi and steam room. Breakfast was excellent - a very wide choice. We did not appreciate having to carry our bags up stairs and down very long corridors. £15 to use the internet was too expensive just to check e-mails.
Poor check in, kept waiting. Long walk to room. No lift. Evening meal returned as under cooked.
I think that the hotel could do with being refurbished. The Evening meal was very poor for the price.
The room was comfortable, very clean and the daily servicing was excellent. Good breakfasts, and, we enjoyed the one dinner we had during our stay. It was well presented and reasonable value for money. All the staff were very friendly, helpful, efficient. Even the taxi firm used by the hotel had drivers with the same cheerful disposition - and nice clean cars as well. Not an ideal location in relation to the Town Centre if one did not have a car. But, we did not mind getting a taxi as the drivers were so good.
Breakfast buffet was very good Nothing
a warm welcome, friendly helpful staff, very clean rooms ,felt very homely, would recomend it to anyone and we will use it again , nothing
Very Friendly staff, comfortable accomodation On arrival Toilet handn't been flushed, an oversight maybe but a bit off putting. Otherwise nothing too much to complain about.
Very friendly staff
A very comfortable hotel. Location not very good.
Everyone was really friendly and the room was absolutely spotless.
A very comfortable overnight stay, and we would be pleased to come again.
The food was excellent and good value. Staff were excellent. Room was clean and comfortable.
Easy going informal atmosphere Small shower enclosure
Excellent room, very comfortable bed, good breakfast, good price, friendly service Considering the price, none aprt from the fact that there weren't any newspapers in the morn ing
We werw welcomed and service was attentive. The lack of space in the shower room.
Very relaxing wiyh good food. Very poor shower in bathroom (no pressure). No lighting over bathroom mirror in bathroom for shaving/make up etc.
The view. The room service.
It was perfect totally exceeded my expectations!!!
We last visited the before the re-furbishment, we were very impressed with the changes, our room was spotless, very warm and comfortable, lovely bathroom, good tea and coffee making facilities. The breakfast and evening meals were excellent, as were the staff in all areas, the gentleman who greeted us in reception deserves a special mention re parking of our car. as mentioned, car parking can be a problem as the public car park 50 mtrs from the hotel does not allow overnight parking. The hotel car park is very small there are open garaging spaces belonging to the hotel next door but are quite difficult to access.
Service and food were superb. No
Very friendly and helpful staff, good food and super location - just feet from the sea. Comfortable restaurant and lounge areas. And they take dogs! There was nothing to dislike at all but the parking at the hotel itself is a bit tricky.
The view from restaurant was lovely and the food first class. If you arrived by car difficulty in finding parking places!
It was snowing when we arrived but the hotel was lovely and warm and remained so throughout the weekend. The staff were lovely and the food excellent. We had been upgraded to a suite with sea view from an ordinary room with sea view. It didn't last long enough!
Constant sound of waves breaking and sight of the ever-changing sea.
Much lower than walk-price (which is gbp80), very good decoration, nice view, big wash room, very nice area. Not much, maybe "breakfast not included".
the dining room staff were excellent. They were courteous, attentive and efficient. We were a party of 3 and it was one of the very few occasions that I have been shown to a table actually prepared and laid up for three rather than four with a spare space. The reception staff let things down a bit. We were not greeted or welcomed properly, and had to wait whilst the receptionist was on the phone. When we were checking out there was no-one on the desk. Apparently she had gone off to get something from the shop. We had to go in search of someone to help us. A bell on the reception desk would be a good idea.
Very good friendly atmosphere, obviously recently refurbished to a good standard, and staff clearly enjoying their work. Unexpected arrival of a large party for dinner delayed service for me and some other lone guests.
sea views from dining room ample parking excellent restaurant
State of the room was a disgrace. Bathroom tiles mouldy, shower head held together with tape. Cracks all round bedroom ceiling. Window sills which look to have rotted botched up with mastic. Restaurant closed at 9-00 pm. Holes in door. walls stained.
Nice clean bathroom
the location and views. Food was very good. No telephone in room.
Plenty of parking; good location; friendly staff; good food; comfortable resident's bar. Photograph on website doesn't do anything to make you want to stay - it looks very bleak and uninviting - fortunately we read the description and ignored the picture.
The building is very attractive. Lovely interior design and inviting. The grounds are lovely and well maintained. We had a standard room which had everything you need to feel comfortable. The view was fantastic over the harbour. Seeing the boats and ship sailing in and out. The room was very clean accept for a minor issue mentioned in what we did not like. But had been solved in no time by a staffmember. All the Staff members were friendly and helpful. We did not have any food in the hotel, so we can't comment on that. The bar service was fine. The kettle had old black coffee in. It was disguisting. My partner cleaned it out andtried to boil the water, but it was faulty. But it had been replaced instandly by a staffmember on our request and we did not mind as the problem was solved so quickly. I would recommand that kettles are always checked on cleaniless all the time. The weather was hot outside and to be honest the room far too hot. We opened the windows and this did not help. We did not sleep very well because it was too humid. Even a staffmember who replaced the kettle said it was boiling in the room. It was a disappointment and when we would have stayed more days than only one what we did, we might have asked for another room. But than we would not have that beautiful view I suppose. It would be nice if the rooms who are too hot during rare warm days will be provided with a portable fan.
Worth much higher than current star rating. Showers need urgent repair.
The room was fantastic the staff were very helpful and did all they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible Not much to do in the area
very relaxing atmospere, very friendly staff did not have internet connection
it was a lovely hotel, the food was good, some of the staff could have smiled abit, but we really enjoyed our stay nothing really bad, staff could have seem happy
My wife and I just needed a night away from the stresses of everyday life and found the Tower Hotel to be an excellent choice to just relax and unwind for 24hrs. Staff were very friendly and the food was delicious and Outstanding. Lovely sofas to chill out on.
The staff were all very friendly, and made you feel welcome, good choice of food and wine. just a really nice hotel Building work going on, so lack of parking, but that can't be helped when trying to improve facilities
Quality of room and hotel Would have preferred buffet style breakfast with choice fruit
how friendly the staff were and how close it was to the port
The pure oppulence of the hotel. ornate celings, chandeliiers and the pure history of the place. The booklet provided was excellent to give an insight into the history of the hotel and the area. The reason we stayed at the hotel was for our son;s wedding of which the wedding reception was held there. There wasn;t an available plug socket next to a miror to do my hair. We had the continental breakfast and we here charged full price for my husband who only had tea and toast.
Everything was fine Nothing
All the staff were helpful and friendly. Our stay was for three nights. On the first night, we were very ill and believed that it could have been food poisoning. We were given a free extra room after the first night but were unable to stay beyond 5pm, having to go home ill. However, we were charged for two nights. At the time of paying, I asked for the food to be deleted from the bill and this was done immediately. However, being really poorly I didn't realise that I had paid for a night that we didn't take.
Very friendly Long walk to room
Pool and sauna facilities. Quiet room. The bar. The half price rate for weekend. (It would have been over priced if we had stayed at the normal rate.)
the staff see above
Convenience and efficient staff. Easy parking. Everthhing was fine. Superior in every respect to supposed 4-star hotel later encountered in Southend!
Good atmosphere across business and leisure aspects, both catered for.
convenient location basement room
The leisure facilities were vry good. the staff were helpful and friendly
The price was very good for what we got and we were very impressed with the facilitys The bedroom was very nice and clean but it didnt have a window that opened opened out to look at anything which in the summer we thought would be a problem
Spotlessly clean , very comfortable beds, great breakfeast would definatly stay again if going to clacton Nothing
The rooms were fab, beds just hugged you into a great sleep, then awaken to a great breakfast, with smiley faces all round,a great way to start the day!!Peter was great to have a chat with, and all other staff did a great job. Many Thanks Cant think of anything
close to the beach and attractions.good breakfast. poor parking facilities. very poor water pressure on shower.
lovely hosts, nothing was too much trouble
The friendly warm atmosphere, provided be the staff.
Friendly staff, good English breakfast
Warm welcome, friendly and efficient staff and owners. Room and beds particuarly comfortable, good clean facilities, cretainlly one of the best bed and breakfast guest houses in Clacton on sea.. This is a Bed and Breakfast not a Hotel as listed. No Bar facilities.
Enjoyed my stay. Hostess very nice. Breakfasts well organised. I was in a good routine and sorry to have to leave - wished I had booked to stay longer. No problems.
very friendly - cosy warm atmosphere - nicely decorated and comfortable rooms
