Pros: Lovely view of the castle, large period room with small terrace with view and an excellent breakfast with some items cooked fresh by the owner. Parking by the front door.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners of this hotel are simply the best hosts ever. No one has ever met us so hospitable. The hotel is ideally located in the center of a nice medieval town. Amazing unforgettable views. The style of the 18th century is perfectly combined with modern comfort. Great homemade breakfast. Wonderful place to stay!
Cons: Nothing to dislike. The hotel has only a few rooms, so book in advance as we did. Otherwise, you will be late :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are very nice and we had a warm welcome. The view from the rooms is extraordinary!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful accommodation run by loving hosts with many details. The rich breakfast consists of self-made, local products and guests from all around the world invite into the day. The building is historic, very clean, quiet and the guest rooms and balcony have a great view of the castle and lower town. Fougeres is a small, quiet and ancient town with a lot of pubs, shops, historical sights and little traffic. It's not far to the north or south coasts (no toll). If you want to come to rest, you will be in good hands. As a family, we had a fantastic week here and will definitely come back soon.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A charming stone built house with wood panelled interiors. High ceilings and cool even in a heatwave thanks to shutters. Amazing view out of the window overlooking the castle and located right in the centre of Fougères. Breakfasts were feasts including homemade cake. It felt like the real France. Wifi speed was exceptional.
Cons: It was all good. Limited checking in times but owner was very good sending texts to make sure she was there at the right time.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous, friendly, knowledgeable hosts. Superb grand building with fabulous view of the chateau. Large room with very comfortable bed. Good shower. Superb breakfast with fresh produce, french toast with apple a delight. Potential to be fantastic accommodation with a few tweaks

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing breakfast and lovely friendly hosts
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location and an historic building which was quirky. Letitia and her husband could not have been nicer. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the breakfast was lovely.
Cons: We didn’t realise that you cannot get access to the hotel until 5:00pm. Which wouldn’t normally be a problem but we cycled and had nowhere to leave our gear so we were limited to how much we could explore. The time was on the paperwork so it was our mistake though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, views, style, authenticity, friendly hosts, everything really...
Cons: Nothing

Cons: I’m not sure if it was a language issue (little English spoken and we don’t speak French). We asked to check out at 11am (as is advertised), but were told that we had to be out by 9:30am, which was early for our schedule.

7.0 Good
Pros: The breakfast was set out beautifully, and very special, the dining room was very atmosphereic and suited the "old and ancient" chateau furnishings. Evner was very helpful and friendly, but doesn't know a word of English.
Cons: By mistake we arrived at 15:30 and the gate was locked - opened at 17:00. That was written on the reservation, but we thought it a mistake. anyway, no problem, we went looking for a coffee shop - nothing was open in the 2 small towns around. It was far away from any local restaurant of coffee shop.

Pros: The owners were very friendly and helpful. It is an old farm in a quiet location. They don't speak much English nor us French but we managed without a problem.

Pros: We liked everything about this gite. It was one of our favorites, and we would have enjoyed staying longer. The hostess is bubbly and friendly. You are situated on a working farm, but just outside Fougeres which has a wonderful old castle with an easy translated into English tour. Great for kids and adults alike - and some of the most beautiful public parks I've ever seen. The rooms were a great size and extremely comfortable. The breakfasts are delicious. We hoped to go back someday to hike in the nearby forest, and if we do, this is where we will certainly stay.
Cons: I loved it all - 4 stars for this gite and for Fougeres as well.

Pros: The property was set in the countryside, quiet and just what we wanted. The room was comfortable and very clean. The food was excellent (both evening meal and breakfast) and we liked the fact that virtually everything we ate and drank, was produced on the farm. I would recommend having an evening meal as it was delicious! Stephanie, the hostess was very welcoming and made us feel very at home.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful chateau with fabulous gardens and a wonderful family running it.
Cons: We would have liked some food or a bar
6.8 Good
Pros: The gardens and setting are idyllic. The photo is absolutely accurate.
Cons: We were disappointed that the doors to our rooms did not lock properly. When we left during the day we were unable to lock our door and at night we were not able to lock it from the inside. This is something that I feel they need to repair if they want to continue renting out rooms. Otherwise the rooms were lovely, spacious and bright.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A fabulous Chateau hotel set in an equally fabulous Botanical garden. Whilst the garden was open to the public we had open access early morning and after closing. A beautiful array of plants, birds and trees. The room was excellent, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was extra but well worth the cost.
Cons: The toilet door would not close in our room
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic rural location
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Incredible lodging set in the middle of extensive gardens. Quiet, peaceful, comfortable. Wonderful breakfast, great staff.
Cons: No heat in the room. ( a small heater in the bathroom)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is rather isolated and even my sat-nav had some problems - but there are a few signs for the Gardens. On arrival at the Gardens the staff will open the gates and tell you to park by the Chateau and someone will meet you. The bedrooms are large, clean and with a comfortable bed. There are tea and coffee facilities. The bathroom was clean and had a suitable shower - but the net curtains do not provide sufficient privacy at night. The night was quiet - with the sound of nightingales. There is no restaurant and so evening meals have to be obtained elsewhere. Breakfast was ok. The great plus to this venue are the magnificent gardens.
Cons: No curtains in the bathroom - except net ones.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: What a wonderful surprise. The gardens are stunning, chateaux owners made us very welcome & very accommodating. The breakfast was enjoyable, with locally made produce.
Cons: It would be good to have a walk in shower, the baths are huge and very fitting for the rooms, but not very easy to get in &out.

Cons: Nothing

Pros: This is a beautiful, historic home and gorgeous botanic garden that guests have access to throughout the visit. Staff were accomodating, and the room was comfortable and spacious.
Cons: Bathroom only had a bathtub (no shower). Our room didn't have wifi connection. The breakfast was 15 euros a person.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The gardens are exceptional. And the family/staff are warm, conversational, and very easy to like!
Cons: Breakfast needs to be better and more in keeping with the level of the property and the gardens. It is too basic and therefore “let’s down” the property as a whole v

5.8 Okay
Pros: The location is excellent. The stuff is nice and kind. The breakfast is very good to excellent, we couldn't want any better.
Cons: Main issues: 1) toilet is in the bathroom which has no door. At all. My partner was very upset to use it as if it's the same room as bedroom. 2) we needed electric outlets to charge our phones and the only ones in the room required unplugging various utilities which we also needed to use. Minor issues: the room is very small, the view is of the rooftops of neighboring buildings, no parking -- the last part was annoying but known from the website.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spotlessly clean. Attentive staff. Small but very functional rooms . Hotel well located in town.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location, cleanliness
Cons: The rooms are not very well sound-proofed - we could hear constant door slamming in the early morning.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were consistently lovely and helpful. And the location was great
Cons: Absolutely tiny room for 2 people. And pretty basic.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing. The centre of town doesn’t get any closer and car parking was only 5 mins away. Breakfast was excellent..the quality of the produce was first class. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything - except one particular set of guests. The location is just magnificent. Excellent dinner
Cons: A family who near-ruined the dinner by allowing their children to simple scream and shout throughout the evening. However, the staff were great and moved us into a separate dining room
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff who went to a lot of effort to make us happy Tower Room for our meals was a nice bonus
Cons: Food good but a short menu and the same menu both evenings
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Tranquility, and the animals they keep
6.3 Good
Pros: It is a really old beautiful Château)) receptionist is very friendly.
Cons: No airco (but there was a ventilator in the draw), no mini-fridge, bathroom is really basic ( bathtub drain was not working), bad lightning in the bathroom , NO SOCKETS at the bed, very cheap-looking furniture, all the surrounding looks a bit abandoned and needs more care. The swimming pool is outside, but because of hot weather the water was completely green, so we decided not to swim .
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We booked Le Bois Guy in search of air conditioning In an area where it is rare. We arrived on a very hot day to find public spaces warm. We were shown 2 rooms, one brand new with a portable air conditioner and the other naturally cool due to thick ancient stone walls. We chose the thick walls and it met our needs after some bad experiences during the first of two heat waves. There is a permanently installed sculpture exhibit throughout the estate and a 3 hole golf course. They offer a 48 euro gourmet 3 course dinner menu along with a 14 euro petite dejuner. We did really enjoy the dinner menu which was delicious, creative and locally sourced. We also enjoyed easy access to Fougeres and Jardin Botanique de Haut Bretagne both of which are worth a journey. We also found a great pizzeria in the nearby village of St Germain. Overall Le Bois de Guy delivered more than expected. It was hard to not change plans to stay longer. We found the environment very relaxing at Le Bois Guy.
Cons: The new air conditioned room had an odor we found offensive. That problem was attributed to the new wood. The stone rooms have only a clear glass door to the outside with a curtain in front to provide privacy, so air flow is not ideal even with a fan and daylight was also limited. The lack of air conditioning is an issue we are finding everywhere in Europe. There are also cottages which we did not experience. The bed had only a duvet comforter over a bottom fitted sheet, so you had to choose no cover at all if you were warm. That was not really comfortable. A top sheet would have helped especially with no air conditioning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, amazing Chateau somewhere in France..
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: After winding our way through countless country roads and villages, the turn on to the grounds was impressive. It was like going back in time. The grounds were well kept and the parking facility was suitable for the location.
Cons: We quite enjoyed our stay.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Set in a quiet rural area
Cons: Not much food or drink choice
5.0 Okay
Pros: the room was big and well furnished the Swiss owner was charming and helpful with his partner; the Danish one being edgy and not welcoming thanks for the round of golf
Cons: The pool was not useable and was a building site around same there was no spa, nor facility there is no bar nor lounge so the public areas are a let down restaurant is poor for the money being charged lots of dog poo in grounds and on golf course-this is a big issue and needs resolving would not recommend as does not deliver to the brochure, nor the web site
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a privat castle in rural area of Brittany. Our room was big, and it has very nice furniture and bathroom. There is a new swimming pool and my girls tried it. Dinner was delicious but not cheap. Breakfast was good. There is a new golf course around the castle. It looks like owners invest good money in the business. Hope it would be much better next year.

Pros: It was a peaceful location, with plenty of space and facilities to use for ourselves. Having a lovely big kitchen area to use and sit in was ideal, beats having to sit in your room all evening. We were able to cook some bits we bought back too. It also meant we could talk with our host who could not do enough for us. We could practice our French and it was a pleasure all around. We really enjoyed being in a real bit of France with a great host.

Pros: Very friendly and welcoming service. Fantastically clean and comfortable bed.
Cons: We would have liked to have been informed about the extremely noisy Saturday evening entertainment in the theatre/square which went on until 2am. This was presumably for Bastille day. We did not sleep until 3am and then had to travel back to England straight after breakfast. Very disappointing and very annoying.
